Keep in mind the site will look better in the coming days. For now, I just wanted to get it up on the web for easier access.
Introduction:
I thought I'd start a topic on the upcoming Mirage publication of the lost Archie Comics TMNT storyline, "The Forever War". I'llt ry to compile all information in this one place. As the project gets closer to reality day by day, I think it would be beneficial to have this open. I'll try to update as much as possible.
Email Exchanges with Steve Murhpy:
First and foremost, I'd like to share some Email exchanges I've had with Steve Murphy regarding the project (in reverse chronological order). Note that I trimmed some of them down to make sense and to respect the fact t hat he wanted me to keep any guessing or speculation on his part under wraps until the project moved further along.
August 29, 2005: "FYI - Chris is currently handling the art to Tales #19, due out in January. But Dean has yet to turn in a script for The Forever War. As a result I've had to remove the title from our production schedule and now treat it as a "when it comes in, it comes in" sort of thing. That is, when Dean turns in the script, and providing it gets approved by Peter Laird, only then will I put the book back on the production schedule. ...he has promised to write TFW and he's always kept his word in the past so I have faith that he'll do it. I just hope he does it soon!"
June 11 and July 14, 2004: I sent Steve Murphy quotes from right here, the boards at TheTechnodrome.com, to help cement theidea that there would be fan support for the project. Below are those quotes, to which he replied by syaing he didn't realize how much interest there would be, and he would pass them on to Dean and Chris (Chirs even featured this in one of his daily journals):
"I think the artist you mean is Chris Allan. The only work of his I know of besides TMNTA, however, is issues #26-28 of "Knuckles The Echidna". He's my fav turtle artist too." - Dec. 26, 2002 by"ChibiKasai"
"I as well was very sad when the archie series ended I was really looking forward and still do till this day to know what was going to happen in the forever war the picture in the advertisement was so awesome I really really want to know what that story is about" - Oct. 19, 2003, by "Putrescent"
"I love this series! I still mourn its untimely cancellation. Overall, I would consider this to be the most consistent TMNT series in terms of quality and story. It's not the "kiddie" TMNT book! Read it!" - Feb. 24, 2004, by "Roseangelo"
"Yeah, once Allan takes over the art is fabulous." - Feb. 25, 2004, by "Roseangelo"
"[It'd] be cool to see Allan's take on the Turtles today." - Feb. 25, 2004, by "MrPliggins"
"it's a shame that the next shredder story line never
came about "the Forever War" I would love to see the art and read the stories for it I wish I knew how to contact the artist about it." - May 14, 2004, by "Putrescent"
"Hey everyone Vaughn Michael here not sure if anyone has gotten Issue # 3 of tales of TMNT yet but in the letters section they spoke of thinking of bring the long lost last chapter of the archie series out! Now to me thats freaking amazingly great news and should be brought out everyone should write to Mirage and tell them to pleaee bring it out. I know I'm going to I've wanted to read this story for so damn long....and to me the archie series is incomplete without this storyline being printed! so please everyone go pester the mirage guys to bring this out! "
"you and me both and we can only hope they bring it out. i'll be the happiest guy alive if they do! "
"Wow, now that is some awesomely hot s***"
"*raises glass* This one's to you, Mr. Laird. Wow, this is amazing news. The Archie TMNT are by far my favorite incarnation of the characters, next to Eastman and/or Laird-written Mirage stories. This has really got me excited. "
"I'd love to see the Forever War finally released/Adapted, Tales of the TMNT would be a great place to bring it back"
"That's f*** great news....I can't wait to hear more about this."
"I don't really care HOW many parts it has! I just want to see it really happen! I got soooooo mad at Archie for dropping the series before they came out with "Future War" that I fumed about it for weeks afterwards!"
June 4, 2004: "It is definitely in the works... or at least both Dean and Chris say they'll tackle it and Pete has given it his approval. Granted, if Dean doesn't come through then the project is off. Earliest publication scenario is summer 2005."
June 4, 2004: "Well, Archie Comics is out of the picture. Our plan with Forever War is to print it as a Mirage book, a roughly 96-page graphic novel in black and white, with Chris doing the pencils (but I haven't looked for an inker yet). The book would be a stand-alone issue but will be clearly identified as part of the "TMNT Adventures" universe (and it will be explained that it was intended to be of the Archie comics universe, post issue 72), not the Mirage comics universe."
June 4, 2004: "I've also been bugging him to finish off the "last" "lost" TMNT Adventures story-line, "The Forever War," and he's indicated that he'll get to it by the fall..."
Printed Tidbits:
Tales of the TMNT #14 (August 2005): "The Forever War takes place in the Archie universe (it will simply be published by Mirage)."
Tales of the TMNT #11 (May 2005): "Dean and Chris are slated to begin The Forever War any day now. Meanwhile, Chris will be handling the art chores on #18's "A Ghost Story"."
Tales of the TMNT #11 (May 2005): "Well, while no Archie comic book series characters will be appearing in Tales, you can look forward to seeing Armaggon, Verminator-X and a whole lot of other Archie characters in The Forever War graphic novel, to be published some time in 2006."
Tales of the TMNT #7 (January 2005): "Them Adventures boys are working on Forever War but it may take awhile before it comes out; probably late 2005."
Tales of the TMNT #5 (September 2004): "Dean Clarrain and Chris Allan of the old TMNT Adventures comic book will return next issue for a non-Archie Universe Turtles tale and are slowly getting around to tackling the "Forever War" storyline."
Tales of the TMNT #3 (May 2004): "As far as them ever finishing and Mirage publishing "The Forever War" is concerned, that's always a possibility (one that has ben discussed off and on), although whether it would appear in its originally-conceived 110 pages is doubtful. We'll keep you posted."
