Already have it set up :P Easy as cake! (Java would make it so I could have a good link, such as technodromechat.com but this way its very moderated so you can boot people, temporary unless liked.) I used to chat in the chats all the time, when they were free. MSN Chat is now a subscription service thats why I made a new group. Hey! Theres always IRC, why am I so stupid? We can make a channel there for the 'drome as long as people have mIRC, but then it would be just as easy as downloading aim I guess other then being able to moderate it.

I am just saying that if we were to use IRC instead of MSN there would be better results, it isnt very user friendly because you have to know what to type, but if a thread was made to explain it to everyone we'd be able to use it. I use IRC for my Counter-Strike clan. It is a problem with people downloading it, though. However, the program is pretty easy to use....at least I think.

Very easy. But you have to know what to type, the commands and all. As long as there was some information posted and people willing to download it would be alright.

With a pretty simple guide to the basic commands and DCC settings, I think most everyone can manage to get on IRC using whatever programme they like. And depending on what server the channel's on, not everyone has to download and install a programme. Dalnet, Efnet and most of the other biggies allow web-based access from their websites.

Yeah I like it to, but Kali and others are not willing to download anything because they either aren't allowed to or some other reason. Also, it just makes it easier with IRC, no accounts or downloading. But I like what we have now. Just trying to think of the people who cant use MSN Chat.

The official chat is only MSN-based, you don't really need MSN (the program itself). It works with your browser. All you have to do is download that little plugin for your browser and then reboot once et voilà: it works.

Ah... maybe you've got to click some activation link in that mail, or you need to be approved to the group by one of the group's administrators. Check the confirmation-mail you got, it should be somewhere in there.

Gone through all of that. I got two confirmation e-mails(one for the passport, the other from the group), did all of the activations and everything. Oh well. It almost doesn't seem like it's worth the effort. Hopefully one of the group admins can fix this.

I think we should move to IRC. The chat still works perfectly fine for me, but:

* it requires MSN Passport (and not everyone wants to create it)
* some of the members can't use it, like you or the_member_formerly_known_as_hannah.

So maybe IRC would be better, methinks.

I'd be all for IRC. For those who haven't used it, it's not as daunting as it looks. Unless you want to register your own nickname, there's no need to register an account. Name changes, a task that's proven pretty difficult on MSN chat, is incredibly easy on IRC.

IRC would certainly be faster (in terms of connections) and more reliable. Plus: it doesn't kick you without any reason or notification (I suspect that this happened to me yesterday. Sorry, Ryona).

It's also really easy to use, once you got a couple of basic commands, which will take you about five minutes. Therefore, my vote goes to IRC.

I'm personally not all for the idea of switching. I'm quite comfortable with what we got now.

If people are having a rather difficult time getting in, you have to ask yourself what the problem is.

If it's because you have to get a Hotmail passport, just get the bloody thing. It's not difficult.

If you were in it before but it's not letting you in anymore, I can try to help you get back in if you want.

Hmm, I'd be up for it, if I can get my IRC program to work. My old virus software seemed to disagree with it. I think it's all better now, but I haven't given it a test to know for sure. Hello everybody and welcome to the great Chat-move.

From today on, we’ll be using IRC as well as Kenton’s chat room to chat. Many of you might ask something along the lines of „Why the hell do you change chat rooms?“ Well, many of the members had connection issues, like they were being disconnected without being noticed and missed a lot. Then there were lags and issues concerning changing nicknames. Also, on IRC we’re able to have a working fliesharing system, so we can exchange pictures way easier than before.

That’s history on IRC. Now, many might be Über-confused with IRC, that’s why this tutorial is here. Now, getting on IRC is rather difficult the first time, but once you’re there It’s a matter of two mouse clicks.

Downloading and installing mIRC
go to Mirc.org (www.mirc.org) and download mIRC 6.16 from one of the New York-Servers.
Install the program
Run the installed program
Fill in your personal details and click OK
The window will close and a grey “Favorites”-box will appear

Joining servers and channels

Cancel that “Favorites”-box
Type /server irc.irchighway.net at the bottom of the big white window you see and press “Enter”.
A lot of writing will appear. Don’t pay attention to that.
The favorites-window will appear again. Cancel that again
Again, at the bottom of the big white window (where all the writing appeared), write /join #thetechnodrome and press enter
Now you’re on our channel.
Add our channel to your favorites, so that you don’t have to go through all this next time you join

Basic commands on the channel
/me: Everything following that is an emotion like *shrugs*

/nick followed by your new nickname lets you change your nickname

Downloading on IRC
THIS IS A ONCE ONLY THING: Go to "Tools" and click on the little + next to "DCC". Subemenus will be visible. Go to "Ignore" and set it to "Disable". Click OK

Type !list
A lot of writing will appear. Look out for the parts starting with /CTCP
Copypaste one of those CTCP-triggers. NOTE: The text is highlighted, you just don't see the highlighting.
Click "accept"
Use IRC-commands to navigate through the folders.

IRC-commands
dir:Shows you the content of a folder (folders are marked by not having a file extension and their names are written in CAPS)
cd: followed by a foldername takes you into that folder
cd..: takes you back one folder
get: followed by a filename (sans the filesize) starts the download for the file you requested.

NOTE: This tutorial is not complete yet and the imagesharing is not active yet. To get that working, we'll have to change server, but Kid A and I will first have to test that. Meanwhile quakenet will have to do.

Anyway, if you are, for some odd reasons, against using mIRC or you have slight problems with understanding it, you can use Chatzilla. It's even easier than mIRC and all you have to do is to have Mozilla or Firefox.

Downloading and installing Chatzilla

1. Check out this site. (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/)
2. Download your plugin from this site. (http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla/)
3. Install it.
4. Find "Chatzilla" in "Tools" section, in the upper bar. Launch it.
5. You'll be asked to type your name and e-mail somewhere there, if you're logging for the first time. Maybe. Or not. Not sure. Maybe not. Oh well. :|
6. In *client* tab, you have list of networks. Type "/server irc.irchighway.net" at the bottom of the big white window you see and press “Enter”.
7. Choose your nick here.
8. You are now in "irchighway.net" tab. Wait for a "User mode for YOURNICK is now +i" to appear after a rather long text. Type "/join #thetechnodrome"
9. Et voila!

You can use or the commands Anarky's provided above.

Hello everybody and welcome to the great Chat-move.

From today on, we’ll be using IRC as well as Kenton’s chat room to chat. Many of you might ask something along the lines of „Why the hell do you change chat rooms?“ Well, many of the members had connection issues, like they were being disconnected without being noticed and missed a lot. Then there were lags and issues concerning changing nicknames. Also, on IRC we’re able to have a working fliesharing system, so we can exchange pictures way easier than before.

That’s history on IRC. Now, many might be Über-confused with IRC, that’s why this tutorial is here. Now, getting on IRC is rather difficult the first time, but once you’re there It’s a matter of two mouse clicks.

Downloading and installing mIRC
go to Mirc.org (www.mirc.org) and download mIRC 6.16 from one of the New York-Servers.
Install the program
Run the installed program
Fill in your personal details and click OK
The window will close and a grey “Favorites”-box will appear

Joining servers and channels

Cancel that “Favorites”-box
Type /server irc.irchighway.net at the bottom of the big white window you see and press “Enter”.
A lot of writing will appear. Don’t pay attention to that.
The favorites-window will appear again. Cancel that again
Again, at the bottom of the big white window (where all the writing appeared), write /join #thetechnodrome and press enter
Now you’re on our channel.
Add our channel to your favorites, so that you don’t have to go through all this next time you join

Basic commands on the channel
/me: Everything following that is an emotion like *shrugs*
/ctcp: Lets you access a certain fileserver.
/nick followed by your new nickname lets you change your nickname

Fileserver

ctcp followed by a nickname, followed by a short text opens a fileserver (i.e. “/ctcp Anarky show me pictures”)
dir shows you every file and every folder there is
cd followed by a folder name accesses that folder
cd.. takes you back one folder
get followed by a filename activates the download process
exit closes the connection with the fileserver

And that’s basically all you need to know. Oh, one more thing, the chat user called @L is not a person but a chatbot, so there’s no use talking to him.

Oh man, more chatrooms... not like it would be confusing enough. I'll stick with IRC, mainly because I have my fileserver running on there. Besides, that avatar-chat has real lag issues. A message I posted took almost two seconds to be seen on screen and the whole chat had half a century to load. I appreciate the effort, but I'll stay on IRC.

Anyways, for MG's chat, I recommend everyone to read her rules (http://thespeedforce.com/welcome.htm), because there's one important point: Her chat is PG-13 whereas the others were... more adult. And, and that's something I don't like at all: Everything we write is apparently recorded and visible for everyone.

Talking about chatrooms. I will relocate NRServ (my IRC Fileserver) to my friend's webserver, resulting in NRServ being online 24/7. There won't be any changes to the signing up-process. The only thing that will change is that you're able to get stuff at any given time.

New feature to come - help needed

Hello there, Kid A and I have been busy installing a Triviabot tonight. That means, that we'll have a fully operational, automatic quiz soon.

As for now, the quiz is being hosted on NRServ, which isn't a problem at all, I guess.

The real problem is, is that we need questions. Hundreds, thousands, billions... okay I might be exagerating a little. Anyways, we need your help. We need you TMNT-buffs and buffettes to help us out with entertaining questions. Difficulty doesn't matter, but make sure that you include something for everybody.

And because all TMNT would be sort of boring as time goes, we would love to host other questions as well, general questions, subjects like in the GD for example. Questions about our members (nothing too private), about movies, songs, videogames, books... you know.

IMPORTANT: PM the questions, with an answer of course, to Kid A or me, preferrably with an added category. Do not post them in here, please.

And another thing. Please format your questions like this (it makes it much easier for us):
