View Full Version : Scenes/Ideas that didn't make it?

Hi. Just wondering if there's some stuff that was "intended, but didn't make it"

In "Enter the Shredder", during the fight with all those robots, there's a scene with the Roadkill Rodneys coming out of the pit "We Must Stop Them!" Yet there isn't any rematch with them.

Also, in "Return of the Technodrome", there's some suggestion that Irma is infatuated with the Turtles. Maybe that was what I'll call "Uncertainty Liberty", that when you're not sure if you'll be continuing a show (maybe they thought it might be the last episode when they made it) you sometimes go to some extremes.

Thirdly, in "20,000 Leaks Beneath the Sea", when the tidal wave rushes through the sewers, you see Splinter go down the waterfall, and he says "Farewell, Turtles"....but after the ad break, you see him about to go over, but he's cought and brought up the manhole. Was it originally going to be a "we thought you died" episode, but they determined that would be too "heavy"?

A fourth example....that de facto two-parter with the portal generator, that has "Hokum Hare" in it. I'm almost wondering if they originally intended Usagi Yojimbo to return, but, maybe they couldn't get the rights again, so they created "Hokum" to "fill in the gaps", so to speak.

So, any comments?

And any other places that suggest scenes or ideas that didn't make it?

Well, I can only think of one. In the James Avery interview at the official site, Mr. Avery said some things got left on the cutting room floor. He only gave a "Shredder in Love" episode example, not any others, but he made it sound like the staff had thought up more a few ideas that either didn't make it to script or didn't make it to animation, for whatever reason.

Shredder in Love...I still wonder what the hell kind of madness would have taken place in such an episode. And then I get sad that it was never made. :(

I think Hokem hare was always intended. They visited the fairy tale dimension...not sure what fairy tale he was from though... I'm sure they could have gotten the rights to Usagi again if they wanted to since Eastman and Laird are good friends with Stan Sakai. In my opinion, though, Usagi doesn't fit the stories of "turtles and the hare" and "once upon a time machine".

I always wondered about that Splinter scene too, it's very weird because two different things happen. Usually shows don't contradict themselves like that. You would think the editor would have cut it differently or something.

And "return of the technodrome" does seem like it could serve as a final episode. It would have actually been a very good series finale (way better than the real series finale). I think it was uncertain of the future of the series, which is why they had the Technodrome fall into the lava at the end. I remember wondering, in season 3, how they got the technodrome out of the lava?

Maybe the thick hull could withstand most of the lava's destructive properties until Shredder and Krang organized themselves enough to pull it out.

 Cartoon science is fun. :)

Maybe this would have been a way to bring in that gal the Shedder's brother was in love with and got killed by Yoshi for in the Mirage comics. They could very easily have made Shedder in love with her instead of his brother and have a sort of love triangle between Yoshi and Saki.

It would explain why Shedder tried so hard to destroy Spinter the way he did. As it is, even as a kid I never understood just why exactly Shedder hated Yoshi/Splinter so much. The fact that Shedder was ambitious and an asshole doesn't really justify the passion of the hatred he felt toward him. Maybe Shedder hated Yoshi they both loved the same girl...hmm, how mysterious...

Speaking of..... I was remember a part where Baxter had a electrca looking monster and sent him after the Turtles. He comments to the monster to make him turtle soup and licked his lips. The turtle look at him disgusted and fight the monster

Was this NOT on the DVD?

I don't know what you are talking about Turtle Donve :-?

Also, in "Return of the Technodrome", there's some suggestion that Irma is infatuated with the Turtles. Maybe that was what I'll call "Uncertainty Liberty", that when you're not sure if you'll be continuing a show (maybe they thought it might be the last episode when they made it) you sometimes go to some extremes.

That series did have a real "series finale" feel to it, it was quite well done, I made you wonder if the villans survived or not. As to the whole Irma thing I always got the impressions that she had more of an infatuation with Donatello than with any of the other turtles. That infatuation was always sublely played up on certain levels. And what is weird Donatello kind of responded to that unconsciencely at times:o

One thing that always made me wonder if they had more plans that never got going was the introduction of the Rat King and his abilty to control Splinter. It seemed like they where really going some where with that and then it never occured again.

And the introduction of Mona Lisa that never went any where. Was there some possiable direction the writters where playing with to give the boys (or at least Raphael) possiable love intersts that they could actually get involved with. And the whole Mondo Geko living in the sewers and seemed like the writters where trying to give Michaelangelo a best friend and buddy that always seemed like he always wanted seemed to Dwindle off.

And i can't even remember what Roch=kSteady and Bebops fate where?

Turtle dove, you are talking about "curse of the evil eye" which is on volume 2, I think. This is the part where Baxter has the helmet and makes the Taj Mahal, along with the electricity monster and the blob monster, which by the way is no match for Shredder.

As far as b & r, it was never explained if I remember right. They are there in season 8's finale. Then in season 10 when S and K return, B and R aren't even mentioned.

This show always set up stuff that they never returned to, and they always left it open by having leo say "i have a feeling we haven't seen the last of him/her".

Shredder in Love...I still wonder what the hell kind of madness would have taken place in such an episode. And then I get sad that it was never made. :(

You know what I think might have happened... to fit in with the old toon humour and lightheartedness, Shredder probably would've been hit with some wierd ray love potion of sorts that made him fall for someone like Irma or something. LOL. It would probably be similar to the episode of The Real Ghostbusters where Janine wishes Egon was crazy about her and he would stare at her all the time and say "You're beautiful when you're angry" when she was angry etc. It was funny, probably one of my favourite episodes.

Of course I could be wrong... but I just can't see Shredder being in love for real or you'd think they would've continued with it in later episodes. So it would have to be a quick, one time thing. Oh god that sounds BAD LMFAO-- or good, depending how you look at it...

I'll uh. Shut up now. Yeah.

After about six seasons, the others should have said, "No s***, Leo."

She'd totally shack up with him if he wanted.

I hope you're not serious, Surf. That's a terrible idea. Cancer isn't something people write about in cartoons, especially in such a manner when it's not even curable, and that would be trying to make cancer funny or lighthearted, which it ISN'T.

:o Dude! If Shredder laughed in my face cause I had thought he wanted to marry him I'd kick him in the "You know what", get myself free and beat the daylights out of him.

- I can see it now-

Me: So you like me?

Shredder: HAHAHA  Me and you? HAHAHA

ME: You little...urghh *punch*

The Turtles come to save me and see me beating the BLEH out of Shredder. Krang is watching on the intercom and laughing at Shredder

Falling in love with irma has already been done in the show.. I bet the Shredder would fall for April or something (of course that's been done too)...or maybe someone odd like the neutrino girl. There aren't a whole lot of females in this series to pick from. I can see this episode being sort of like cowabunga shredhead with him acting totally out of character and it would be hilarious.

Shreddette
01-06-2006, 06:41 PM
Eeewwww not the Neutrino girl!!! That'd be gross, she's like. 12. Or seems like it. They're kids!!! ACK!
April I can see.
Or Lotus. Maybe.

Or Shredder might fall in love with himself.

Yeah I'd probably wanna beat Shredder up if he laughed in my face like that too. I lubs him. That would suck. I'd have to stop being a fan, at that point. Sigh.

Goddamnit don't make me think about it!

Lotus would be interesting, but I think she's too strong and wouldn't "need him" so to speak. :) Plus I believe they hated each other....she DID kick his keister and he held a grudge.

Shreddette
01-06-2006, 10:56 PM
Yeah well like I said I doubt he would fall in love without help of some kind, and when he snaps out of it... it would be humorous. So if it WERE Lotus he'd be infuriated, and that would make things interesting as well!

Imagine him getting his ass kicked while he's crooning about how pretty she is.

Goddamnit, I should be writing these things. Too bad my creativity is at an all time lull these days. (Is lull a word?)

Another hint at a possible removed or changed scene....in "Shredder gets Splintered", when the Foot Soldiers first exit the Technodrome, there's a mention of "bikers". Bikers? Were they originally going to have soldiers on motorcycles in that scene? Perhaps another "team cycle" like two episodes earlier?

As for Shredder being in love....Splinter has it right, "Someone who specializes in hate"....

What i always wondered was what was up with the personality change they gave Vernon from season one to later seasons. Vernon didn't seem like he had anything against April in the first season or was trying to compete with at all. In fact he defends her to Mr. Burns in one scene in season one as well:| , didn't seem like he had anything against then?

Where they orginally going to go in another direction with Vernons character, but decided in the last minute to make him a rival of April's?

Man..... I have to find someway to find the episode,"Shredder In Love" I bet it was April he fell for. Or maybe it was some japanese chick (If you recall the first movie Yoshi & Saki liked that 1 girl)

Yah I have to agree with the shredhead babe, bet the story goes like this.... "Irma goes to a fortune Teller and buys a love potion spray to spray on someone. I bet Irma wanted to spray it on some cute scientist guy but instead Shredder gets it and ses Irma and falls in love with her."

Poor Irma....personally I'd take advatange of thesituation, tell the turtles to beat it and have fun with Shredder.

Speaking of naughty thoughts, in the episode,"Attack of the 50 Foot Irma" Any reason why those "Happy Birthday Irma" banners and stuff where in the turtles bedroom?-That's 1 hell of a Bday gift.wish the turtles gave me that for my birthday.-Then again it was the 80's....who knows WHAT went on in the sewers and in Burn Thompson's office with that trampy bimbo he calls Tiffany

That said, there is a really good story I read online about Saki's vengeance for his brother. I think it may be fanfiction, but I believe it rings true to the original story. It delves into Saki's life from when he was little til... well, I shan't ruin it. Some of you might want to check it out.

Damn, and I just clicked on the link for it in my bookmarks and it doesn't exist anymore. :(

Anyways, that story was rather heart wrenching. Saki witnessed his brother's death... who he was very close to... and it also explained why Saki wears his bladed armor.

Mind you, I never read the comics themselves so maybe they explained it and I am just being redundant.

The rival lovers angle was in the original Mirage comic story, of course, but there was nothing like that in the original animated cartoon series. Going by that, I would venture that Shredder's desire to destroy Splinter was motivated by fear rather than hostility. Shredder has two good reasons to fear Splinter, after all: 1) Shredder turned Splinter into a mutant freak, and 2) In the "Fifth Turtle" episode where Zach is introduced, Splinter has evidence against Shredder that would exonerate Hamato Yoshi and cause Oroku Saki to be expelled from the Foot Clan. Shredder could never feel truly comfortable while his old enemy was still alive, even when turned into a mutant rat.

Okay, maybe she's 15 like the turtles. You know, so they match.
Plus the Neutrinos are from a different world; different world with different rules. Also, weren't they breaking the rules? They were trying to escape that dreck, if I recall correctly.

Plus, it was a kid's show, so they catered to kids ideals, the teenagers got to drive a cool vehicle.

Still, being about 14, 15 or 16 years old (maybe) would be highly inappropriate for Shredder, who is in his 30's, to fall in love with.

That still doesn't change the fact that I wanted him when I was 12. :goof:

good point, however why would Shedder be afraid of Splinter presenting evidence that he was framed by him? When Yoshi was ousted from the clan Shedder became the head of the clan, so Spliter could very well have showed him the evidence of his innocence. And he couldn't very well show the other clan members eighther because all the foot clan had been replaced by robot soldiers. Which makes me wonder, was their still an exisiting foot clan in japan after Shedder hooked up with Krang, or is he the only living member other than robots? I wonder where the living human clan members went, or if they are still alive.

The episode with the "Turtle Collector" (the one who stole everything Turtles' related, and had wax statues of certain villains), there's the "Two headed biker" mentioned. Also, in the Rogues episode, one of the villains was Scumbug, who was never seen before. I wonder if there were SUPPOSED to be episodes with the two-headed biker and Scumbug that were scrapped, but the other episodes already were written "as though it happened", what do you think?

I think most of the above mentioned character plots were just ways to sell toys. Mona Lisa probably wasn't a strong enough character to keep around so they used her once or twice and sold her action figure. Same with Mondo Gecko, Tattoo, Mutagen Man, etc... You guys gotta remember that the only reason this cartoon was made was to sell action figures (seriously, Playmates wouldn't make a deal without a tie in cartoon).

Vernon's character change: originally he was just a coward, but later they played him off as the typical suck up. Every office place has one, and Vernon just happened to be the only other channel 6 character in the first season with any lines. Although they kept the cowardess as well, so he was the guy that made you appreciate the other characters more since he sucked so much.

You can't have good without evil, you can't have cool without lame.

I always wondered if Vernon didn't have some kind of hidden attraction for April. He was always up her ass and trying to best her, but some how I kind of thought that he was attracted to her. From what I've seen in the reruns of the classic toon, I starting to re-think my theory that Vernon is gay!
