View Full Version : Will Fast Forward Be the End of the TMNT

Is anyone else worried about the new direction of the show. I understand they have to do something different to attract more people, but this is a risk. I believe that Fast Forward will be the end of the TMNT as we know it, or be a great success and make them bigger than they ever were before...Your thoughts?
As any other fan, I hope it doesn't end. But we have to face the reality that it's gonna end sooner or later.
Either way, IMO, it's gonna be THE 'jumped the shark' moment.

I admit to having a bad feeling about this Fast Forward stuff. Maybe it'll be more interesting if Bishop and Rat King have some part to play in it (and considering that Bishop is pretty much immortal, it could happen). Course, I'll probably be even less enthused with Fast Forward if this season ends with some unresolved stuff that's going to be have to wait for FF to end before it can be taken care of.
I just don't know. This may end up being to the new show what the start of the Red Sky era was to the old show. Don't know how well recieved that was back in the day, but it was when I started to lose a lot of interest in the old show.

Well if that press release is any indication, it's possible. The whole point of Fast Forward seems to be trying to make up for the amount of money 4kids has lost on TMNT by attracting a new And bigger audience. If Fast Forward fails, that may be it for awhile :|
I think you all need to get a new hobby. Worrying so much isn't healthy. The show is marketed towards kids. What do kids want in a show? What causes them to lose interest? Not the same things that you are afraid of with the new season. They aren't as worried about the story line as you are. They just wants to see new adventures with new, exciting characters. That seems to be exactly where the show is going. The only problem is that they grow up, and that's why they lose interest. (They become teenagers, ad we all know how they are.)
"This fall, get ready to fast-forward 99 years and meet the Turtles of the future with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward. Brought to the future by Cody Jones, the grandson of Casey Jones and April O’Neil, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael are forced to adapt to a whole new world – without their home, junk food or Shredder."
The article referred to it as a new TV series, and said it'd have 26 stand alone episodes.

Course, I'll probably be even less enthused with Fast Forward if this season ends with some unresolved stuff that's going to be have to wait for FF to end before it can be taken care of.That's my major concern. There are still loose ends. Actually, the one in "Hun on the Run" bothers me... Karai was going to steal a chip from the EPF, got caught, but did get a chance to scan it first. The Foot were going to use it to make a prototype of their own (though they didn't tell us of what). That one kind of stands out the most. The Foot in general, actually... we'll have to see what happens I guess.
And, in removing the Turtles from their time and plunking them into another, they're ditching almost all of the supporting cast! There aren't going to be that many characters in common, besides the guys, and even if there are, they'll have changed a lot. I can see this for a story arc, but a whole season is really taking the plunge! However, it will be pretty interesting to see how much of Volume 4 ends up in there.
Brought to the future by Cody Jones, the grandson of Casey Jones and April O’Neil...Oh! I didn't know it was his fault... :p that's kind of a strange premise. I hope he's got a good reason... it's rude to take people out of their timeline just to say hello. :p

Am I worried? Sure. Will it change that it's coming? No. Do I hope that somehow it will be good? Definitely yes.
I just hope that we get to see some resolution when the series as a whole ends, and I can die happy.

Dude, just drop it, I'm sick of this consensus that the youth demographic swallow whatever it is corporations throw at them in a favourate show of theirs.. There not as stupid or as blind as you think. People lose interest when these things happen and when the substance fails to make up for the changes.
And secondly, you've got your facts ass-backwards, it's NOT a seperate series, it's the sixth season made into the fifth by corporate urging, ask Dan
Notice how I said "the article (http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=20&itemid=9188)." Now if you'd breeze on up to the toys forum and read a new thread made by a guy named 'tmntman' you'd see that there was a link about some toys from the series that come out in the fall.
The three children in my life don't care for the show, two of them actually "hate it," as my niece told me. I don't know who is responsible for making this show stay on the air.
Remember a show called "Power rangersecond ?" WHat does the youth demographic tell you about that one? I loved it in sgrade, but grew away from it when the characters changed.
People lose interest when stories repeat themselves. "Hey, guys, the evil shredder is attacking! Lets go foil his plans!" they're chaning the series like this to keep it interesting and fun to watch. A lot of show's writers lose things to write about so the show starts to fall off. Don Adams refused to be in an episdoe of 'Get Smart' because it was the exact same story as a previous episode, but in a different location. Like you said, children aren't stupid. They know when the turtles are doing the same thing every week. this show seems to have a good team of writers, so as long as the ratings don't drop, fox won't drop the show like they do with everything else they air. And the ratings won't drop if the show stays new and exciting; keeps the kiddies interest.
Yes, of course. They are changing the setting of the show, therefore the writers will forget how to write good stories and interesting characters and the show will die. Duh.
I just hope that we get to see some resolution when the series as a whole ends, and I can die happy.
That would be really cool. :D Don't expect it to happen, but hoping is nice.

Yes I'm a little worried. I liked the way they were doing it, with complex story arcs and strong character development. If FF can keep those aspects but get a large demographic slice of the pie, then I'm for it.

Laird paid for the Lost Season to be made and put on DVD with his own funds. He can do that with future seasons if need be. DVD sales must be good if he can afford to do that. BUY ALL THE DVDS. That's all I can say.
I've bought them all, except the latest one. I saw it at Best By, but it had a black case, and was chipped.

i think there will be one more season after fast forward, mainly because of the movie. that will gain some interest for a while, anyway.
i'm not worried, either way, it's been bigger and better than i ever thought when it first started, so i'll be satisified either way.
I still trust the authors of the show, even though I don't like the Fast Forward idea. I hope they will surpruse us. And I certainly don't think it will be the end of the show, we all know that the 6th season is being worked on :)

It's not a new series.
26 standalone eps = 30 minute commercial format where nothing is connected to the previous eps, no continuity, no references to previous experiences = crappy cartoons. That's all this sounds like, 30 min. commercials just to plug the damn toy line and crap. They've been doing that recently too...shoving products in our face. The ep they just showed, with them spending 3 mos in the dino times felt like an afterthought(i know it was in the comics) and threw it in there to get kids to want the dinosaur toys. Ugh. This is what leads me not to wanna watch it. But I am...just for Raph. :-)
Yeah it's true the kids it's targeted at just want a fun, exciting show to watch.
The diff between fan and average kid, is we actually care about the series and characters.

The salient question is, can you do a quality series without drawing on previous installments? I would say "yes"... I can't say they will succeed, but I see no reason to expect them to fail, at this point.
"Mikey" has also informed the fans that the characters will continue to evolve from where they leave off before Fast Forward. Maybe it won't be so completely bereft of references to their previous lives.

Seriously, Cody being a "young teen" character and the lame ass "Dark Turtle" names scream all manners of gimmicked toy plugging queerness, and from Pete's quick decision making regarding the lost seasons, I don't even beleive he likes doing this period.
Stand Alones are'nt in his volcaubulary, every episode means something to the TMNT mythology, the studios don't care though

I am soooo sick and tired of everyone freaking out and worrying about Fast Forward. Here's an idea: Let's let next September get here THEN we can judge. Again, the first 8 episodes of the second season delt with the Turtles in Space saga... Why not let this be? There are only so many more stories they can do from the comics, then they have to come up with whole new original ideas. This is one of those whole new original ideas. You guys are all freaking out and getting ahead of yourselves. As I said in one of the previous threads: If it was meant to be, let it be. If, and I stress the word IF, it faulters, then it was a good run. 6 seasons is a hell of a lot better in today's current market than you all are putting it out to be.
Will Fast Forward be the end of the TMNT '03? No. Why? Because They have a lot more going for them than this and this sure as hell isn't the end.

Again, the first 8 episodes of the second season delt with the Turtles in Space saga... Why not let this be? There are only so many more stories they can do from the comics, then they have to come up with whole new original ideas. This is one of those whole new original ideas
1. It is'nt original, this is something corporations pull out of their desperate asses for bigger bucks, time travel/futuristic gimmicks have been present before on many shows and franchises, Batman Beyond, The Smurfs (the last season where they were stuck in time), The Flintstones Meet The Jetsons, Beast Machines etc, and we all know what happened with them, all except Beyond were cancelled, and Beyond was lucky, it's second season was watered down by the network and they could'nt bring back Blight or any of the arc driven characters from the earlier episodes and only adapted to this by season three, by which time it was too late and the series got cancelled.
2. Turtles In Space was a majority consensus pile of suck that should have been wrapped up in five, the last two being "Secret Origins" in a two part format
3. We have a right to offer up opinions on what we think of the premise so far, it's actually the apologists that get bent out of shape more often than we do because they can't deal with a majority consensus going against the show at this stage.
Some people are determined to beleive that, because it's TMNT, these problems are going to slip by, it won't be, no show has done it before, nor will they now, the premise sounds nauccisating, the age of Cody is a Scrappy Doo alert if I have ever seen one, and the "Dark Turtle" labelling is just boarderline lazy. There's a toyline being peddled with this season, and it's more than obvious with the production of the lost season that somebody is allowing this to go ahead begrudgingly just to keep the show on the air so he can continue the storylines that were interupted by this.
Most series' don't have four multiplatform games, more toys than any child needs, a new movie in the works, or over 100 episodes by the end of season four with two more seasons lined up. Ninja turtles is special. Don't get worried until they start transforming into large beasts, or call upon their robots to form into an ultra robot.

Oh wow... I didn't know they had figures designed already. This is my first look at the characters..
Just an observation: the Turtle figures look more like Dooney's promo art than the previous figures; those looked more like the look in the show. I read somewhere on the Argh! Studios forums that the look was changing slightly for the sixth season, and the artists were trying to get used to it... so this new season is actually what was once the sixth season? I guess this is the new look? This is confusing...
Oh... I found these:
http://69.93.119.2/photo/4/showphoto.php?photo=1273&cat=82
http://69.93.119.2/photo/4/showphoto.php?photo=1260&cat=82
if those pictures in the top circles are drawings direct from the model sheets (they might be, considering how neutral the positions are), the look has changed a bit! Not so different that it looks like a different series or anything... just a slight change in head shape (let's see if these guys actually look like their model sheets, unlike the current characters :p), the angles of the shell; actually, all the angles have been streamlined. On the other hand, it could look exactly the same, and whoever did the package art just can't draw on model. :p
Cody definitely looks like a biological descendent of April... so I guess she gets to be a normal human being after all, or at least has different physical properties than Mirage's April. (I always thought, if the woman has a bloodstream, and organs, and all that, it didn't quite make sense that she wouldn't just be a normal woman in all aspects, strange origin aside)
Sterling/Serling (typo?) - looks like something Peter Laird would design (not saying he did, but it is consistant with the Mirage look). That kinda clunky-charming look, like the professor. :)
All the gear I'm seeing, and weird weapons.. it reminds me a bit of The Next Mutation, and that look never thrilled me much. :ohwell: On the other hand, the ones that look like they may glow, are reminiscent of the Guardians' swords.
*eeps* Dark Turtles...?! what kind of bizarre things are those..? Isn't Don's current form strange and snarly-growly-monstrous enough already? And these guys don't look much more intelligent than he is at the moment. *shrug* I'm really curious to see what they're gonna do with all these strange characters.
Yeah, I'm whining about the toy designs, but who knows how they'll actually look in the show? The figures are usually considerably different than what's on screen. So, no, I'm not panicking, I'm just not a real big fan of gimmicky action figures.
Don Adams refused to be in an episdoe of 'Get Smart' because it was the exact same story as a previous episode, but in a different location.Interesting trivia.. that was good of him! More actors need to speak up when they think something's stupid. :p
Yes, of course. They are changing the setting of the show, therefore the writers will forget how to write good stories and interesting characters and the show will die. Duh.Yes, okay, you do have a point. :)
Those Dark Turtles really have me going "eep", though...
ThemanthatwouldbeRaphael
04-08-2006, 01:49 AM
Those Dark Turtles really have peaked my intrest, I originally picture them looking like the TMNT, but black, and for some reason, in leather.
I also hope Serling isn't the typical annoying robot like Robby the Robot and C-3PO, and I hope he's more informative like Commander Data on Star Trek(granted, Data's an androind but still).
Also, this new Jammerhead character looks very intresting, and psycho.

Well after Season 4 there's the Lost Season and the fast Forward Season. So after that I'm sure its gonna be a wrap. I mean they're not gonna overdue it like they did the old school series. that's a total of 6 seasons which is the usual total of stuff like this.

I'm aware that the TMNT of old lasted 10 seasons. I meant that's how most cartoons are nowdays.
And as much as I'm sure you'll hate to admit it Fast Forward does look like it will be the end.
Why does it look like it'll be the end? It's already beena nnounced that they are signed up for a 6th season. Unless that was before they decided to scrap the real 5th season and replace it with Fast Forward. Either way, there's too much money to be made for them to stop it at this season. There is a movie in the works that will be released in a year. By then, Fast Forward will be close to it's finale. Right now there is no reason to think it'll be over soon, unless Fast Forward bombs horribley, and the movie is a huge flop.

I'm thinking that instead of drawing new viewers to the show, Fast Forward will probably alienate some of the current fan base and put off anybody who'd otherwise be interested in the new Ninja Turtles...
Some regular viewers (not necessarily hardcore fans like us) might just say, "What happened to all the stuff I remember from last season?" and switch to another channel.
More casual TV viewers who haven't been watching the new toon but are familiar with the old TMNT might catch a second or two of Fast Forward and say, "Jeez, this is nothing like the Ninja Turtles I remember!" I think that's my biggest fear...No matter how well-written or brilliantly concieved this new "future" concept may be, it will undoubtedly look and sound drastically different and thus will likely scare off some potential viewers.
The old 'toon is a beloved property, and any new rendition of the Ninja Turtles that differs in a significant manner from what people remember will likely be met with at least a little bit of hostility. I certainly know that when I first saw the new Turtles, I was put off and switched the channel.
...Thankfully I returned and realised how well-crafted this new series is. But some people probably won't.
Either way, it'd still be better than anything foxbox has to offer.

Agreed. :ohwell:
In the end, all this bickering is rather pointless -- it's already in the books, there's nothing we can do about it, and in any event, the skilled writers of TMNT wouldn't desecrate the franchise to the extent some of you are fearing. Let's just relax, take a deep breath, and see what happens...

Yeah I would have to agree there. The movie will hold it atleast for a little longer. And if even the Lost Season and Fast Foward will both be made. So if TMNT gets crushed we will still have atleast 6 seasons. But as a fan I always strive for that 7th or 8th.
I think it' easier for them to make multiple seasons of the ninja turtles than it is for most writers with other shows. They're usually a season filled with stand alone episodes. TMNT has deep and complex story arcs for a [kids] cartoon. It's easy to drag episodes out to finish one story.

Ghost Rider has Nicholas Cage... but I'd be curious to see if his audience would go for an animated movie.
I saw Ice Age II because I liked the first one. Both very cute and funny, especially if you bring the kids along.
Personally I think TMNT has a wider audience than both of those movies, but it has the problem of being viewed as "kid's stuff."

Ice Age has a rep though, TMNT's only rep for kids today is the show. And I doubt most kids have seen the older films. I don't know I'd be surprised. I'd love TMNT to beat it out but it feels doubtful to me.

I know, it's been veiwed as kids stuff since 1987, but this movie could change that.
But even if it doesn't it could still make big money. It'll probably attract the 18-25 demographic who watched the old cartoon, it'll definatley attract the kids who watch the new show now, and us hardcore fans are obliged to go see it, plus the parents who take theyr'e kids will have to buy themselves a ticket, so bottom line, it'll most likey be financially sucessful, and hopefully critcally.
And if the movie is as dark as Kevin Munroe said it is, maybe they can finally cast off that cursed kiddy stigma.

My fear is this, since Video games have been getting more popular movie industry has been taking huge hits. I mean 9 bucks a movie ticket is so out there, I hardly see anything in theaters now. I just hope TMNT doesn't suffer this.

I think many people are underestimating the nostalgia and pop culture factor. Many people who are now young adults grew up with Ninja Turtles (as TMTWBR said), and I think they will go see this movie as something fun to do on a Friday or Saturday night. I have yet to meet someone at college who hates TMNT. Whenever people see me with my TMNT shirts, I get compliments and people start reminicing about how they used to watch TMNT, and who their favorite turtle was. I think this movie has potential to start a third wave of TMNT popularity, if the new toon counts as the second.

Well look at movies like Batman Begins and Fantastic 4(scratch that, don't look at F4), they did considerably well, and TMNT is in the same genre. People love superhero movies, and the TMNT are thought of as superheroes. So I think it'll be a hit.

You know there will loads of people nudging their friends and saying, "I heard there's a new Ninja Turtles movie. Wanna see it?" And you don't get this picture from the big-budget advertising and celebrity endorsements many movies have, but simple word of mouth is an immense factor in box office longevity. So, in the long run, it depends on how many people you (yes YOU) tell the movie is coming out.
Speaking of college, the reaction at thte University of Maryland will be interesting. They play a bit of the TMNT theme during home games, and then everyone yells "turtle power!" And people think we won that basketball championship because we had good players?
Plus "retro" still seems to be hot for certain things from the past. Like TMNT. People who haven't been paying close attention --and that's most people-- will see the movie as a "return". Whether that return is welcome will depend on whether they liked TMNT before... and even if not, it will be a novelty. I mean, TMNT is fun. There really aren't that many movies about giant turtles who can kick butt... at least not readily available at a theatre near you.

Yes, only YOU have the power to make TMNT successful. So, we need TMNT movie shirts. Wouldn't it be cool to get the Coming 2007 poster on a T-shirt? Or maybe combine the old series logo with "Returning to theaters 3/2007"? Maybe WB needs a street crew for this movie, that would be fun :)
A street crew would be fun, but I have yet to see anything that would lead me to believe this movie will have anything more than the usual level of promo. That is, theatre posters, any press they can rope their actors into doing, and maybe some TV ads. *shrug*
It might be cool to have a t-shirt with something to the effect of "TMNT 2007" on it. (If you leave out words like "returning" it will never become outdated. For the chance that anyone will still want to wear it after they see what the movie.... :|)
But what people could do immediately is just make banners for their sites, put it in their sigs on non-TMNT boards, etc. Easy stuff. Like whoever put the movie poster on digg... the response there was lukewarm, but many more people know about the movie because of that. (And I'm still wondering who did this (http://www.myspace.com/tmnt2007).)
Hehe... oops... way off topic now. :p
Movies tickets are only expensive when you go to the late showings. Otherwise they are around 6 bucks.
Unless Ghost Rider has a lot of hype, the R-rating won't help it much when compared to a PG rating. More people can get in to see it. People wanting to see the movie also depends on how well the tralier is made. If it looks incredible, anyone that used to like TMNT will want to see it, but that doesn't mean they will.

Comparatively though, Ghost Rider was a very different demographic to Spiderman, Hulk, and the TMNT. The Punisher seems to have done well enough to earn a sequel and Daredevil (say what you will) got Electra and renewed sequel talks. I think Ghost Rider will find it's audience, just as TMNT will. I dont think a CGI TMNT movie is going to draw as many casual action movie fans as GR will. As soon as you see something animated in CGI, you can pretty much rest assured it's aimed at the younger audience. I can't recall the last adult CGI animated film (I mean totally adult - Final Fantasy only half counts).
I don't think that people generally put TMNT in the "superhero" category. I think to most casual observers, the guys seem to be off in their own little cosmos where the Shredder lives, fighting their personal battle. That's just my gut opinion.

Well anyone who's familiar with the comic books and know their backstory knows theyr'e not superheroes, but to the general crowd who have seen the old toon think of them as superheroes(but for some reason they were left of Bravo's 25 Ultimate Super Heroes list, and yet Indiana Jones, James Bond, and the freakin Men in Black made it on there).
What I was trying to say is the TMNT have the nostalgia factor on their sides, which may give it a good advantage over Ghost Rider. Hopefully people who remember the old toon will go see it just for the nostalgia reasons. And when they do they'll be introduced to a side of the Turtles they've never seen.

I wholeheartedly agree. Granted, nostalgia alone does not guarantee success, but combined with the richness of the TMNT property as a whole and the dark, action-oriented theme the film promises to exploit, I see no reason why the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles couldn't once again take the box office charts by storm.

They really have to delay TMNT out of there. GR will eat it for breakfast. The number of people that I know who are waiting for GR is huge. Almost no TMNT lovers YET, and I insist on YET.
2 big blockbusters like that on the same opening weekend is devastating. One of them will drop. And I'm afraid that alot of people are gonna go see GR and then download TMNT. That will be bad. They really need to aim higher than kids in this. They say it will be pretty much as dark as the first movie ? Good, but they will need to go even higher. As we are now 16 years from TMNT the movie... Things have changed, I hope that they took that in consideration while doing it...

I see what your'e saying, but remeber TMNT has the bigger fanbase. It already has more exposure than GR, and you know Playmates, Warner Bros, and 4 Kids are gonna get all the exposure fror this movie that they can. TMNT has something on GR, generations of fans.
Actually, I may have been mistaken. GR is actually coming out February 16. TMNT actually has a very good spot. Right after GR and a month before Spider-Man 3.
In fact, by coming out March 30, it wont have to compete with Spider-Man 3, Hulk 2, Fantastic 4 2, Transformers, Shrek 3, Pirates of the Carribean 3, and the bound-to-be-huge Simpsons Movie. All of which would destroy them.
Well, then, all we have to do now is pray for an on-time release. ;)

The power of previews holds alot over anyones head. The Fansastic Four movie looks like crap to be but it made a good share of money in the office when it came out and held a weekend.
Ghost Rider may not have as big of a fan base as TMNT, and TMNT may be a kids movie. But more teenagers and adults will go see Ghost Rider instead which negates TMNT. Unless the preview for TMNT stomps Ghost Riders then I don't think TMNT had a fair chance. It's being made by a film studio with no rep that I know about and its a CG movie which most people my age and older think are lame.
Plus I read that most idiot movie goers want the trailer for a movie to tell you as much about the film as it can before they go see it. That is so stupid, they bascially want to know exactly what happens in the film before they go, ending included in most cases. People now of days are such idiots it blows my mind.

So far I've seen some stuff on GR, teasers, trailer... But from the TMNT, nothing except some posters... I know that soon, 4kids and the rest of the gang are gonna put tmnt on the map and big time. But until then, its indeed our duty as fans to spread the words. And don't underestimate the fans of GR. As they are quite numerous in my area. In fact, so far I've seen a bigger fan base of GR than tmnt.
If indeed tmnt is coming out later than GR then that's it. We are saved ! if it has his own little weekend, tmnt will surely have a good week.

You bring out some good points there. Tmnt will need a strong preview/trailer to draw fans in. It will unfortunately depend on their trailers... And youre right about the studio, and irs also a big risk to do it 3d style. Almost every kid stuff today has to be made in 3d... its sad really as those movies are most of the time just ''funny'' and nothing else. Tmnt would really be the first animated kid's movie to be serious..

Its of course the main thing that will draw peoples in. Looks good ? Lets go. But few are the studios who makes good trailers that are revealing stuff that won't spoil the entire movie. ''Too much is not enough''...

Even if TMNT and Ghost Rider were to come out at the same time, I dont really see Ghost Rider stomping on them at all. Ghost Rider is an "R" movie with not a whole lot of hype or a fanbase as big as the TMNT. I'm just really hoping the film will be at least as dark as the old film, if not darker. I think some of the older fans deserve something gritty to look at besides the comic after all these years of kiddie stuff. I have a feeling it wont be as dark or gritty as their promising :ohwell: I'm still looking forward to it though.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that just because the fans are older they will want something "gritty" out of this flick. I know that goes with the "please be like the comic!" mantra though.

I'm watching the 'Rider before TMNT easily, I'm a Marvel supporter first and a TMNT fan second, or third, or fourth..., and one of Ghost Rider's biggest fans, GR does'nt have much mainstream exposure, less now than it did in the 90's, but it's a little prepostrous to say TMNT will "kill it easily", Shredder is'nt even in this one bar possible flashbacks, who the hell in the mainstream will watch a movie without a present day battle between him and the Turtles?
I don't think a PG movie will lose any money to an R movie. They attract completely different crowds, and the lower the rating, the more people that can get in. that's why the summer is filled with PG-13 movies, and the fall is filled with unrated DVD releases. I don't think ghost Rider is popular enough to stay in the theraters as long as a PG (kids) movie. heros like Spiderman and the X-Men are more and better recognised by people, young and old. Ghost Rider is like the Punisher and Daredevil; not very well know, and probbaly won't do wery well in the theater. it'll all depend on the trailers and how well each are advertised. Most people wouldn't want to see either, or they'll just hate both. A lot of people hate marvel movies, and old fans on the ninja turtles might see it and not like it because it's not what they remember; the same reason they don't or may not like the new toon. I think Ghost rider will look better as it probably has a higher budget. Unless this generic studio can pull it off and make the CGI not look like a playstation game.
They might all know what tmnt is. In fact I don't know anyone who doesn't know... But are they interested in them ? TMNT is still kids stuff. Like I said, alot of fans are gonna download TMNT on the net instead of seeing it in theaters. Just because they are afraid to say that they love tmnt. I don't know anyone that is afraid to admit they like, or liked, the ninja turtles. The people I know aren't so shallow that they're afradi to see a kids movie. If anyhting, they can't afford to go to the moives and wait until someone they know rents or buys it.

Of course your gonna see GR before TMNT. As I said in my previous post, I checked again. GR comes out early February, TMNT is coming out at the end of March. GR will most likely be out of theatres, or lose all it's hype before TMNT comes out. So TMNT is safe, and it's coming out 2 months before Spider-Man 3 and all the big sequals, so it's in a safe spot.

Families, familes don't go to movies togther really, it's too expensive now of days. I'm basing this on my area. But in my area that is how it is. The theaters are dead here. And if the theaters are dead in Cali, which houses Hollywood, I don't see them being much better in other states.
People go to the movies around DC. It's not as big as it used to be (they've closed several historic theatres) but it's very much alive.

There were lots of kids when I saw Ice Age II, but I thought it enhanced the "movie experience" to hear them react to it. Kids don't react the same way to jokes as I do. Of course, I wasn't actually sitting NEXT to any of them, so maybe that made me appreciate them more. ;)

Theatres here suck cause Edwards isn't owned by the family no more. AMC ain't too good either. Krikorians are okay.
And people wait "until it's out on DVD"; that's the attitude. I think one day theatres will be obsolete, if not now. I hate theatres, they're expensive to get into, consessions is expensive. I limit myself to the kiddie combos.
At least Edwards still has the best freaking popcorn!!! Made with bad for you coconut oil!

The reason concessions are so expensive is because most theatres can't really turn a profit on ticket sales. If you think about it, it makes sense. They have to split the ticket revenue with moviemakers, and most people only see movies on Friday or Saturday night. Me, I bring my own water and a bit of candy and I'm set. But you're right, it's easy to see why cinemas might become rare novelties, like drive-ins.
I do like seeing movies on the big screen-- it's fab for action and fantasy movies. Plus I like being in the theatre with people I don't know. I saw Inspector Gadget in-theatre because I LOVE the whole I.G. thing (sentimental value mostly) (and I like Broderick)... but it was a really stupid movie. What made up for that were enthusiastic fans in the audience who cheered for the Gadget-copter.
Anyway, I know that with Ninja Turtles there are going to be fans like that in the audience, and I look forward to it. Even if they yell "cowabunga!" And you know they will. :P

I sat in an area with no one, and within 10 minutes the seats around me filled in with a few families. I had a mom two seast down laughing at jokes she probbaly didn't understand. then two of her kids had to keep walking past me to sit next to her because the father was in the row in front of them with more kids. The only open seats were in the first three rows.
I like being the only person in a theater when I see the movie. I think the movie experience is better in a theater. it's bigger, louder, and just a better way the view the film. I also never buy anything from the stands. I can't afford that. Ii'll either wait 90 minutes to 180 minutes (King Kong) to eat/drink or go to the bathroom, or i'll eat before I go to the movies.
