View Full Version : Official NEW EPISODE discussion: 119 "Obsolete"
The official site, NinjaTurtles.com (http://www.NinjaTurtles.com), tells us:
"Hoping to fix the Time Window and return home, the Turtles sneak out with Cody and go to O’Neil Tech. However, Darius sees the guys and wants them away from Cody and in his lab for study! Unleashing old mercenaries against the Turtles, it looks as if Darius will get his wish – until they turn on him and kidnap Cody instead! The boys use new technology to create new weapons which get a full workout when our heroes stage a desperate rescue mission!"
This Darius Dunn guy sounds like he has more in common with Agent Bishop than just a voice actor. I wonder why they need new technology for their weapons though... Personal force fields must be popular in the future, I guess.

Oh good! We get to see Darius today! I got the Triple Action FF Raph figure yesterday that comes with targets of 3 of the bad guys to shoot at with his sais and Darius is one of them (the other 2 being Dark Raph and Sho'Okanabo). He's refered to as "The Villinous Darius Dun" on the box art. So it looks like Cody's uncle (yes that's right...uncle) Darius is gonna be the lead villian!

Dark Raph is Raphael's eeevil clone. Sho'Okanabo is some sort of crab creature.

...ok
So, I get the feeling we've missed some stuff involving the flying guys. They seemed to have one of those entrances that should have been like *gasp!* not THOSE guys again.
I also feel like "Uncle" Darius is not a blood relative.
I still hate the constable and Serling. And I have a baaaaaaad feeling that the blue chick is gonna end up being someone's love interest. ewww!
I need some kind of story line.....

im sorry to skip to the chase what the hell did I just watch? The show is completly retarded now. Why did 4 kids have to screw this up. Could it be because Yogio or whatever its called is coming to 4 kids and dumb down tmnt. This show is so unwatchable I think if anyone seen us watching it there just knock it for what it is. I love the way it was before why mess it up. Sorry just watched it and it made me mad how dumb it is. I'm all about more seasons but I wish they wont if this is what we are going to get...:-?
Good:
- Is it me, or did Cody have mannerisms just like Casey when he was explaining O'Neil Tech?
- Raph and Mike turning to Don for a techno-translation. (I liked it because that happens to me.)
- Mikey and the 'make your dream item come true' machine stuff = funny.
- Leo is still reckless when slashing!
- I dunno why, but I love to see Raph play with his hi-tech toys.
- Dun's destruction of the 'obsoletes' and the turtles' slight suspicion. Glad they didn't straightup find out that Dun was evil.
- Mike accidentally taking out the camera was cleverly done.
I'm starting to feel like Raph is a Mary Sue when he expresses his opinion about the future.
Bad:
- Splinter condones the guys trashing their host's living room? The guys want to trash their host's living room? Whaaaa...?! Maybe it was part of some... um... wise strategy to allow Cody to loosen up more... ... ...yeah, that must be it.
- Say it with me boyz and gurlz: It's Ninja Time!
- I was surprised Leo was electrocuted... that was actually kind of cool... but it wasn't cool that he was perfectly fine 0 seconds after. :P Maybe he just covers well-- that Leo, so stoic...
- The blue chick annoyed me. Not sure why, but Katie you might have something there. :p

I must admit that this episode wasn't as bad as last week's. I enjoyed the main story involving the Obsoletes, even though I got all excited at first because I thought it was the Dark Turtles already (there were four of those pod things). But I didn't enjoy the comedic stuff at the start and end that just seemed to go by the same formula as the start and end scenes last week. Ugh. Not to mention that cop robot. -_- I also hope Splinter doesn't mention his love for soaps every week.
I think I noticed that "TD" Technodrome logo again as the big battle was starting. This time, it was stretched longways though.. :P
I have a feeling the crew had to get this season started quickly after they were told to stop production on the first half of the real fifth season (13 is half of 26), so that could be why last week's episode wasn't all that great. *shakes fist @ 4Kids* :x

From Darius' reaction, I don't think he is actually Agent Bishop. You are probably right, Bishop probably is somewhere in the city. I wonder if Baxter is too.

yeah...I doubt that Darius Dun is Bishop.......but a clone....yeah, I can see that....a distant relative....can see that too. I think that he was the one that helped Cody's father "pass"
And BTW....who else wants Don to come clean about his SAINW experiences since they are in the future? And....wants them to at least show a little sadness that Casey and April are long dead? (Like could we see them visit the graves or something? that would be SO emotional)

This was a pretty good episode, actually. They explained to us some more stuff about the future, Cody's backstory, and introduced Darius and that blue girl.
I'm officially interested in the rest of this season. Things are looking good.

SAINW made people cry. I don't think we'll be seeing any overt references.
At this point, they're not missing April and Casey because they expect to see them again. You're right; visiting their graves, or memorials, or even seeing pictures would be pretty poignant.
Aw... crap I just missed the preview for next week.

Like the last episode....it could've been worse but it ain't the TMNT we know and loved either.
I was starting to be okay with the art style (not ADORING it like it used to be, but at least it wasn't hurting me) until they started doing face close-ups. Blegh.
The guys making a mess of April's apartment was cleverly done, the guys making a mess of the "sitting room" was incredibly lacking and didn't make as much sense--it was like they were just jumping around destroying things on purpose whereas in April's apartment they were trying to help her out with dishes and such and it was more her worrying about things getting destroyed than things ACTUALLY being destroyed and the destruction was accidental. In fact I think it was even more lacking the the original series' destruction of April's apartment....at least that was creative in what was getting wrecked (Raph in the bathroom, hehe!)
Darius. Wow, the uncle that gets control of the company and keeps the kid locked away. I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. Except in a straight-to-video or Olsen Twin movie.
I liked the robot-bird guys rebelling against Darius. I was wondering if they were the elementals but then I started thinking they might be the future version of the birds that lived in the fortress in the sky (can't remember their names, wasn't really a favorite episode but it tied in nicely with other episodes and it'd be neat if this series maintained those kind of connections).
I really miss all the little art details that excited me when I caught them in the earlier episodes--like the Utrom on the end of the sword of Tengu.
Why is Splinter STILL talking about soap operas?
Yeah, blue chick...love interest...and the "HOLYCRAP ITS A GIRL LETS STARE" Again, we got a similar but MUCH BETTER DONE reaction with Sydney. This was Looney Toons.
I wish the technology was a bit more than "whooo, PLOT DEVICE!" >_>
I liked the Mikey got giant mecha armor, that made sense :D I didn't like how it fell apart.... the future makes everything perfect....unless we can make it a cheap joke! bah. They could've done something with it where it was so complicated/bulky that Mikey had trouble manuvering or something.
I miss the humor of the earlier episodes...Mikey's jokes may have been dorky, but at least they weren't overused crap.

I have seen the future...and it is cliche.
Does 4Kids really think that turning the TMNT into the Jetsons will create interest in the franchise?
The animation was just plain awful, the future cliches are downright unbearable, and the new "high tech" TMNT just doesn't do it for me. Fast Forward is a disaster plain and simple.
I don't want to be a wet blanket on these boards, so I will refrain from further posting my venom towards this new series. If you hear from me again regarding FF, it's because something decent occurred. Needless to say, I don't expect to be posting anytime soon.
Consider me looking forward to 3/30/07 when the real TMNT will return, hopefully in full force!

Rat King, you got it straight. Cliche, this is now a show for 8 and under...
Every single joke is deja vu, the action is no more than what was already made a thousand time and the animation is quite 80's-esque.
Man, the 2003 show was like the ''metal'' version of tmnt, while this is the ''big pinky pop'' one. Atleast, I hope that the kids love it.
And about the turtles not getting emotional about Casey and April, well sure they still have high hopes of seeing them again soon. But also, this show wouldn't deal with ''death'' anymore. I'm pretty sure 4Kids won't show any tombstone or whatever they use in the future for that matter who would be directly linked to ''death''.

Just to clarify, the 13 episodes of (the lost) season 5 were already done when work began on Fast Forward. There were never going to be 26 episodes, so it's not the first half of a season. It was written as 13 episodes of a single story arc from the beginning. Despite that, it is true that getting Fast Forward to air on time was a lot of work in a short amount of time. You'll be happy to know that the current main title sequence is only temporary. When the show re-premiers in September the real --all original -- main title will be attatched. Due to time constraints it wasn't completed by the early August air dates.

Every single joke is deja vu, the action is no more than what was already made a thousand time and the animation is quite 80's-esque.
All the jokes from Seasons 2-3 were also deja vu. Mikey was consistently repetitive with his jokes in the early seasons, it's no different now.
But also, this show wouldn't deal with ''death'' anymore. I'm pretty sure 4Kids won't show any tombstone or whatever they use in the future for that matter who would be directly linked to ''death''.
You've seen 2 episodes. There are 24 more, that's a lot. Death was always handled fairly off screen in the old seasons aside from Tang Shen.
Once again, 4kids didn't decide to bring TMNT into the future. Playmates wanted to sell more toys and Laird decided the future was the safest bet.

That alien gal named Starling (is that her name) sounds a bit like April so perhaps Veronica Tayler got a role in FF. Serling is voiced by Marc Thompson (Casey Jones and Uncle Auggie)
Yea...I definatly don't like Uncle Darius. He's definatly evil and I totally suspect that he's
responsible for the death of Cody's father.
As for Starling. Nice to know there's a good gal in the show. She looks a bit neutrino-ish IMO. Altho she's super smart....
Anyways...this was an interesting ep...altho I felt it was a bit too short. Meh...So now we know where
they got the new weopons from. I just hope Splinter will do more than watch tv all day. :P
I really felt sorry for the Inuwashi Gungan. They are honorable warriors reduced to being Uncle Darius' slaves.
Oh and BTW... with that Bobby and Uncle Darius dressing like he's from the 18th century (plus the
somewhat British accent)....did the British take over the world or something??? Uncle Darius
somewhat resembled Watson from "Sherlock Holmes In The 22nd Century". I mean seriously.. Mutton Chops are in in the future?? WTF? :ohwell:
next week: Robots running amok...oh no...not that....anything..but that...

Eh it was okay. Nothing spectacular. Mike's silly battle armor thing fit though, he WOULD do something as silly....but hey, if the fell apart that easy, will their weapons as well? hehe
This episode was less humdrum than the series premiere. The animation looked less unfinished, but still not as good as 2K3. That whole opening scene ticked me off because it was counterproductive. They weren't training. What on Earth (it is still Earth, right?) were they doing that for? ...other than catching the attention of the ADD crowd?? I've often thought, even when I was young, that the videogames should take away points for senseless destruction of city property because it promotes vandalism. Now, this... :ohwell: I don't really see a problem with the blue girl. I thought the only thing annoying about Skyla or whoever was that hover-skate thing she was doing. Hyper-intelligent kids have to act like kids too, I guess.
Love interest for Cody, check. Wicked Step-moth-- err, Uncle, check. Lack of heavy emotion to appease the Standards & Practices people, check. Other than it being more formulaic than the mighty 2K3, I really don't see any reasons to give up on the show. It's still better than a lot of continuing cartoons out today. Unfortunately, the face of animation has been changed to politically correct merchandising again.
Sadly, I can't find anything on Cartoon Network that I like anymore except for the Adult Swim stuff. Aside from Ben 10 (I love superhero stories that take themselves seriously), it's all either boring or too childish for me. The middle ground has been eroded...

Forgot to mention something. Cody mentioned that April, Casey, and Donatello created O'Neil Tech.
So this could mean several things:
1: The turtles will eventually make it back to their time so Don could build all the fun stuff he saw in the future.
2: Somewhere out there are the future turtles.
3: The Turtles will live a normal human life.
But seriously... Casey helped create it? Wha?

First off, indeed the jokes were lame in the 2003 show. But that's it. The jokes, that's all. The rest was pretty intense and awsome. Even though I only saw 2 episodes, so far, I'm not impressed at all. I doubt that they will change the formula. Sure we are still to see the evil clones and other evil, wich might spice things up a bit. I sure hopes for the best, but we are far from that now. The only way we can really enjoy FF is by not comparing it to the 2k3 show. As its so different and inferior (for now), that it will just make it worst to compare the 2.
Second, for the ''death'' thing. In the 2003 show, we saw alot of situations where death was involved. Sure it was intense sometimes, but it was adding so much to the show in terms of emotion. I highly doubt that 4kids will try that again since ratings were dropping because parents didn't wanted to see that in a kid show, and kids are normally not too entertained when the action is dropping to make place for emotional and psychological issues.
And for the toys thing, kids are of course gonna want to buy them if the toon counterpart of the toy is dynamic and intense, instead of depressed and mad... I doubt that kids actually bought Leo figs, just to make him be depressed and mad while playing with it. Its just logic here.

OK I really enjoy today's episode and I'm shocked because I thought I'd hate this show! I'm just fine with this Uncle Darius is gonna be a big pain in the butt or is that a big butt in the pain..erm nevermind lol
I like those flying guys they remind me of Shredders or the Ninja Tribunal for some reason.
I really don't think Cody is that bad..but I can see him becoming annoying fast if all he does is get kidnaped every week....helloooo old toon April.
I'm glad that officer Biggles doesn't have a large part in the show....nuff said on that.
Splinter is still acting really weird in my book.
And I knew the moment I saw the blue girl and all the guys go gaga over her that I'd see allot of fans going uh I hope they don't turn her into a love interest. I mean honestly how old is she...that was kinda odd in the first place they like drooled over her.
I think I like the idea of Cody's uncle being a bad guy...And I don't think everything from the old show is gone BTW the attitudes seem pretty much the same....
My only major problem with this new series is the animation it's just really lazy looking even splinter looked like crap today....the only one who was animated well was Darius and he wasn't even on screen much.
I have to admit I laughed out loud when Mike hit Serling in the face with his new nunchucks and made his eye fall off I'm sorry to anyone who doesn't find that funny but it really was! Great ending in my book.
It's really got me wondering though if Serling knows Darius is watching them?
Makes me really wonder if Serlings good or not.
OO also noticed Silver Sentry's outfit in his collection today. Was there anything else new?
Anyone else Notice how Darius said something like "you need to stop looking at the past" is it me or were they saying that to the fans? I could be really wrong here but it just kinda sounded preachy when he said that.
Oh I don't know about any of you but when the Blue Girl goes to Mike "oh nice compensating for something?"
I was like I can't believe she just said that on this newer kid friendlier tmnt. I mean shesh lol.
I do like how the mech. ended up falling apart on him though then he got all depressed about it.
I'm also really happy they are giving reasons for everything..The new outfits & weapons.

this is like season 9 of old tmnt when they tryed to use lord drag. What a waste of time...
Hmm perhaps that's why I enjoyed that season cause it breathed life into an otherwise stale series..and BTW his name is Lord Dregg.
Splinter doesn't mention his love for soaps every week.
I agree 100% I rolled my eyes at it today I didn't have a problem with it once but for the love of whatever please just stop with that joke allready..I hate when they over kill with the same joke over and over.
And BTW....who else wants Don to come clean about his SAINW experiences since they are in the future? And....wants them to at least show a little sadness that Casey and April are long dead? (Like could we see them visit the graves or something? that would be SO emotional)
I'm sure it's already been discussed off screen between the characters...they are family after all I'm sure they would tell one another at some point what happened when they each went off like that.
Also that would be nice and all but it doesn't really seem like they would have a place for graves here in this future..does it...Perhaps they just cremate body's in the future...but I really think we are getting to deep with a cartoon lol.
I'm officially interested in the rest of this season. Things are looking good.Same here!
Aw... crap I just missed the preview for next week.
Looks pretty good actually showed Serling attacking them so perhaps they destroy him lol!
We also get to see The one new female villain in action!

Sure, my pleasure . Seriously, what I was saying is that the show is now aimed at little kids. Just like the 80's show was. The 2K3 show was more mature, still aimed at kids no doubts, but still more mature. While FF is really trying to sell toys... Got my point ? FF is just not as mature as 2K3. I won't stop watching the show just yet, I'm still gonna watch it untill I find that it reached the bottom.
And I recommend to everyone (including myself) to do like I said earlier, and stop comparing FF to 2K3.

the time travel may have created a seperate time line, or the turtles may end up going back into time exactly when they left. that way they could say the turtles going through time is a part of their history and the reason the future didn't change is because everything is happening the way it is suppose to
I wonder if the Dark Turtles will be the adult Ninja Turtles from this point in time

Actually, it confirms that the Turtles do indeed get home someday, probably the second they left.
Don/April/Casey decide to form it in the present, after Don gets the idea from being the future.

Puter, from one PR fan to another, I'm begging that you don't become the TMNT equivilant of Platniumred:P
...I doubt you'd ever go the route of "OMG, VBEST SEAPONZ EVERZ,, SLOANZ WORSHIPPERZ MUSTZ DIEZ" like he does, but you do seem to go apes*it whenever some says they hate this season's childish, badly animated and written direction so far, and I've seen little that could redeem or defend it, even with this episode.
Just knock it down a little.:)
I know Vernoica's still a part of the show, as she's a poster child for the company on any product they make and they use her regularly, it's just two of her best characters have vanished in the course of a few months, and it's a little unsettling to see her have to adapt with someone new that I could'nt really care about.
So Cody has a love interest, big whoop, Little Mr. Perfect just got extra irritant points

Nah there are things I don't like about it also..I mean everything said and done now though..so I really don't see the reason of making a big fussy deal about everything...not saying anyone in particular Just saying that I don't see a point in it...especially when they aren't even really given reason...besides flipping out and going omg what happen to my turtles...this isn't my turtles...and you know they're right it's not...
And yea I'd never go that route haha I didn't even understand a word of that so hopefully I'll never go there
I have also stated that the animation sucks...but honestly I have faith in Peter Laird I know things look bad but I really don't think for a second he will let the show get that bad. I'm just saying we've only seen 2 episodes so far and to at least give the show a chance...before dismissing it....And the one thing I will go ape sh1t over is when people bash red sky tmnt something I happen to really like almost as much as Archie because it wasn't shredder and krang trying to do the 80's super villain thing every week.

Perhaps Sarnath is reclaiming his eye. :D Since Veronica Taylor is in the credits, perhaps April shows up out of nowhere to pull the plug again. Oh! But seriously, the thing about Casey helping to create O'Neil Tech: I'll bet he was just the contractor. Perhaps he was an investor too, but I doubt it. Where would he get money from? Now that I think of it, where did he ever get money from?

Nah there are things I don't like about it also..I mean everything said and done now though..so I really don't see the reason of making a big fussy deal about everything...
It's primairly because a lot of these fans really did appreciate having a TMNT series that dared to do things that previous products from 4Kids have been unable to do, nor willing to do. We got away with more stuff than they cut out of shows like Sonic X's much acclaimed and darker third season.
Seeing a season that symbolises everything 4Kids is, not only is damming, it's genually bad, not like Kids WB demanding something like Batman Beyond and getting a worthy addition to the DCAU (although to be pretty fair the second season of the series nearly caused it to jump the shark with it's bad filler plots)
I don't like the Dregg seasons myself, but I did know that change was neccersar by that point, I do support one season of that variation if it helps, the eight with Shredder and Krang being on the run and actually blowing things up for good and undoing in twenty five minutes the TMNT's relationship with humans. A lasting legacy that went to another season.
Here, it's just that I don't beleive change is'nt necceesary, and it was all commercilist driven decisions that led to it. Season six of the original was heavily toy driven and not in the Transformers G1 way of introducing the toys with much depth and a chance to tell a story, things here are the same. Batman Beyond did'nt take two to five episodes in the first season to be awesome, it nailed the series right instantaniously.

TV turtles have always been aimed at kids...no matter what you want to believe....the comics aren't.
Your telling everyone not to compare the shows but your really not taking your own advice.
I know it's hard to let go but this really isn't that different from the other show.
Even if it is totally different.
When did I said that the tv turtles weren't aimed at kids ? Never...
I said that one series was more mature, not that it wasn't aimed at kids...
As for ''my own advice'', I'm responding by comparing the 2 shows because I have to, since it was the subject of the post I responded to... I also mentionned that I included myself in the advice I gave so don't worry, I will do as I proposed. Except if I do respond to another post who is comparing the 2 shows.
so I really don't see the reason of making a big fussy deal about everything...not saying anyone in particular Just saying that I don't see a point in it...especially when they aren't even really given reason...besides flipping out and going omg what happen to my turtles...this isn't my turtles...and you know they're right it's not...
Its normal, fans don't like it when something good they love is changed to something completely different. You can't blame someone, especially fans, because something they loved was transformed into something they don't like and that they are expressing their opinions.
We will all continue to watch the new show, and wait for something really good to happen, until then, we will keep saying that we don't or that we do love something about the new show, and these discussions will still take place.

This Darius Dunn guy sounds like he has more in common with Agent Bishop than just a voice actor.Ohhh. *hits self* No wonder he sounded familiar...
Join me, Darius - I AM YOUR FATHER!Don't say that! It could be true! :tsurpris:
After watching the episode, I think it's safe to say Darius Dunn is a distant relative of Agent Bishop. I guess that guy had kids afterall. This is creeping me out... but then, he may have had descendents even in the Turtles' time... he was a normal human being, once, after all. It's possible Darius is related.
Say it with me boyz and gurlz: It's Ninja Time!
They didn't say that this time... did they? I'm already blocking it out, it seems...
I was surprised Leo was electrocuted... that was actually kind of cool... but it wasn't cool that he was perfectly fine 0 seconds after. Maybe he just covers well-- that Leo, so stoic...
I don't think it was electrocution... more like some kind of body-shutdown before stasis. And it can only affect someone other than the Gunjin when it first starts, apparently, since it didn't affect Darius at all, when he pulled Leo away. *shrug*
And BTW....who else wants Don to come clean about his SAINW experiences since they are in the future? At least a reference would be nice...
it was like they were just jumping around destroying things on purpose whereas in April's apartment they were trying to help her out with dishes and such and it was more her worrying about things getting destroyed than things ACTUALLY being destroyed and the destruction was accidental.
Splinter thought they needed to train. There wasn't a training room. Hence, make the sitting room a training room. It makes sense to me. They actually didn't destroy anything, just mixed it around a bit. They mostly just upset Serling, which doesn't appear to be too hard. :p
Darius. Wow, the uncle that gets control of the company and keeps the kid locked away. I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE.Heh, you do have a point. But how many times have you heard of stories (and some actual history), of monarchies with the former king's sibling essentially usurping their nephew? Yes, this is more of a corporate empire, but it's still classic. I can live with it.
You'll be happy to know that the current main title sequence is only temporary. When the show re-premiers in September the real --all original -- main title will be attatched. Due to time constraints it wasn't completed by the early August air dates.Ahh. I assume you're in the know? Can you post here more often? :D It's good to hear that. I'm surprised to hear that the Tribunal arc is already finished, though. I was under the impression they'd be going back to work on it after this season.
Sort of like perfecting the format as you get used to the rushed schedule? Nice to hear.Welcome to the world of TV animation production... :p
1: The turtles will eventually make it back to their time so Don could build all the fun stuff he saw in the future.I hate paradoxes. :tgrumble: But I guess this is all one big paradox waiting to happen...
OO also noticed Silver Sentry's outfit in his collection today. Was there anything else new?I noticed it last week, but I wasn't sure that's what it really was. You notice the lower legs have been ripped off (at least that's how it appears to me)? That doesn't look good... :ohwell:
I wonder if the Dark Turtles will be the adult Ninja Turtles from this point in time*stops, stares* I..hope..not. That's scary..
but honestly I have faith in Peter Laird I know things look bad but I really don't think for a second he will let the show get that bad.Yes, just remind him of TNM... nobody wants that to happen again. Not even me. ;)
I have seen the future...and it is cliche.LOL! Yeah, that just about sums it up. But TMNT was born from cliche. Mutants, killer monsters, martial arts, aliens... this just seems normal to the Turtle-verse, to me.
Okay, I guess I'm just a freak (no affirmations please :p), but I'm really enjoying this just as much as the other seasons. I was puzzled that they revealed so soon that this Uncle Darius isn't exactly a straight-shooter, but they probably have their reasons. I do see that they're trying to put some younger protagonists in the show, though, to appeal more to a younger demographic, so I'm not completely oblivious. It just doesn't bother me much, though.
Starling's voice actor... a little annoying, but not well-enunciated, either. I had to watch it on closed captioning to understand half of what she said, and even then, I think the captionists may have mis-heard her, also. Why does she have skates? I'm sure there's some pseudo-scientific reason..
Why does Donny always save the girl? At least Raph helped, this time.
I thought it was kind of weird that Darius was guilt-tripping Cody on "your poor departed father", when he's apparently his mother's brother, being a Dunn, rather than a Jones.
Inuwashi Gunjin= Eagle Soldiers. They remind me vaguely of the Y'lentian Avians... except these guys are Japanese. Still could be related, I suppose.
"Once, an age ago, we Inuwashi Gunjin were the most feared fighters in the air... but times change, wars end. We became obsolete... there is no place for honor in this time." Hmm. Interesting.
Counstable Biggles of the Peacekeepers? Well, we have a name to put on our hitlist, now.
Also, it occurs to me, that whenever I'd go back and see the first few episodes of 2K3 after watching stuff from Seasons 3 and 4, that it seemed remarkably juevenile in comparison. It took time for it to climb to the level of quality it was at in the fourth season. So, that may be the case here.
They didn't say that this time... did they? I'm already blocking it out, it seems...
Either they did, or I'm hallucinating.
To everyone crying 'cliche', yeah there are a bunch of cliche elements to the FF stuff (the way the future is portrayed, things like that), but remember that there are only so many stories to be told. Ever read Joseph Cambell's Hero with a Thousand Faces? It's all been done. But it would be nice to have a more 'tutles' slant on things. :P
I hope it turns out that Dun is a mass murderer.
What. :P

She has skates cuz it's a Neutrino thing? eh I dunno...maybe she can't walk normally or it's just easier for her to get around the science lab and stuff.
Is it just me tho or are any minor good guys not really part of the main cast have Ling in their name? Serling, Starling....
And is she named Starling cuz she's from the Stars or was she named after the annoying bird? Or perhaps a reference to Star Labs?

The first season was handled tremendously better in writing than season two ever was, so I really don't see where that's coming from. The humour in every season has been fairly crap so the story is all I go for as well as the animation.

And BTW....who else wants Don to come clean about his SAINW experiences since they are in the future? And....wants them to at least show a little sadness that Casey and April are long dead? (Like could we see them visit the graves or something? that would be SO emotional)
I haven't watched the ep yet, BUT...
Yeah, Katie, I questioned the lack of emotion in last week's ep thread (but a fight was brewing so it got ignored, haha)...
As for Darius, he COULD be Bishop... we learned that uh... in Insane in the Membrane... Bishop has been body-swapped to a new body already, possibly mre than once. No reason to think that they didn't do it again.

Hmm I agree in all honesty tmnt 2003-up till now and red sky are my favorite animated versions of the turtles....I think allot of people say it (red sky) jumped the shark (how come people stopped saying jump the gun btw Columbine?) I'm not really bothered by any of it because allot of it was stuff Peter and Kevin had come up with a long time ago. I guess my reasons for liking Dregg and Mung so much is pretty much the reason I liked a character like Lord Zedd...they came along and took over where other villains could not previal..I mean honestly that entire part where he captured all of the turtles as well as shredder and krang has got to be one of my favorite story lines even if the animation was crap.
I don't like the Dregg seasons myself, but I did know that change was neccersar by that point, I do support one season of that variation if it helps, the eight with Shredder and Krang being on the run and actually blowing things up for good and undoing in twenty five minutes the TMNT's relationship with humans. I wonder if those are actual issues or not--about psychological issues making kids disinterested. I dunno, when I was a kid I watched stuff BECAUSE of those things. Yeah Jem and the Holograms had all the ridiculous glitter that Winx has but it also had a lot of emotional stuff, near death, parents dead, holographic mother and the issues with THAT, orphaned children, etc and I LIKED that and my friends who watched it noticed the same things. I liked Captain Planet for the same reasons. And those are things that made those shows stand out from the others. Doesn't 4kids have ENOUGH kiddie-oriented cheesy empty shows on as it is? bah...and I think if parents don't want their kids watching it, they can STOP their kids from watching it rather than bitch about it to get it changed. If you're so concerned, get a Barney tape and put it on repeat :P
Training? I don't believe that one... compared to the standing on bamboo they'd do at the lair, jumping around on top of things and knocking them over isn't remotely training >_>;
Ooh yeah, I forgot to mention those things--with the eye coming off and the 'over-comensating' line I was thinking....YES, they ARE trying to sneak in what they can! So I'm keeping my eye out for some other bonuses ;p
Yes, just remind him of TNM... nobody wants that to happen again. Not even me. <- Haha, now that's the truth! We know it won't sink that low!
I agree that there was a definite rise from episode one to the later seasons but even "Things Change" (which I don't much like and never watch unless I'm being completist) was a whole lot better than what we've got here. That was unrefined, this is just...eh... time to go back to the drawing board ;p

The Turtles themselves (I'm thinking "Darkness on the Edge of Town" specifically) are really hyper, much more childish than they are later (which is to be expected; they haven't experienced much yet!), and the plots are more simplified (lacking the huge cast of characters at that point): it's not "Bishop was coerced by the Mystics to get the Turtles to take Karai's pendant in exchange for saving Don who was changed by Baxter's accelerant", it's more "Shredder stole a sword that's apparently been in his past, Turtles try to keep it from the bad guys cuz it's powerful". It gets more complicated later, when they have something to build on. I didn't say the writing wasn't good, just that the overall tone was less... convoluted? Here, they're inexperienced kids all over again, adapting to this huge change again. Smaller cast, more simplified stuff. When they start bringing in more references to the earlier seasons, and introducing more characters in this season, then it'll get more complicated.
"Sometimes, geek power is what it's all about."
LOL, that one's my favorite of the shorts.
But, in actuality, the largest concentration of chivalrous guys, aka gentlemen, are what you might consider to be geeks. 'Twas mostly a rhetorical question, but yeah, I think so. Geeks are charming, on the average. :)

I totally feel that. I've always hated glitter, and liked interesting characters in interesting situations, since I was a little kid. I watched He-Man because of the characters, not because Adam ran around yelling "I have the power!" The thing is, it was the "I have the power" type stuff that sold toys, which was the whole reason that the show existed in the first place. Even if 4Kids wants to make a good, quality product, they are under pressure to up the ratings in the target audience and move more merchandise. So... it's Ninja Time.
ETA: I think TPTB are under the impression that kids don't like 'deep' stuff.

I had a harder time getting the theme song out of my head today. Curses. :P
Well, this week I hid in the office to watch FF on the small TV, alone. Kinda shows what I thought of last week's epsiode... I was kinda afraid to have anyone catch me watching this stuff. But of course, I do love Turtles and I am curious to see how the stories and quality develop for this show... so I watched.
This week's impression? A whole heckuva lot better. Splinter's color scheme still throws me off, but it looks like they pushed him a little bit closer to his old design. Old habits die hard, I suppose. The animation, while still not as good as the best 2k3 epsiodes, was still nearly par with the more painful 2k3 episodes... so an improvement, absolutely. Sounds like it's definitely an issue of getting used to the new models. Things are looking up.
Random other observations I had while watching the show:
> IT'S NINJA TIME! whee! :dead:
> Darius = Bishop? Or some relation? He's got a weird build, too... like if Hun ever let himself go, complete with muttonchops.
> Oh geez... Splinter and his soaps again. Makes sense they'd still be around after 100 years - and I bet it'd be only six months in soap-opera-time.
> Leo shows a little inititative this week? Back to his assertive self?
> For all you who thought Don was in the background too much in the last series... here ya go!
> For a second I was shocked/horrified at Mikey's mech suit. Surely they weren't nixing the 'chucks, too?! Then I remembered he had 'em in the promo art, and the thing fell to bits anyway. *phew*
> OK, the flying warrior things were kinda cool.
> The "slimy uncle" and "your poor departed father" thing has me having Lion King and Hamlet flashbacks.
> Yay, a blue chick who's amazingly smart. She's OK, but I hope there's a little more to her than that... 'cos that's a bit boring.
> Don's future bo rocks. His is easily the coolest future weapon, I think... or at least it had the coolest "check me out, spinning my new weapon!" shot.
> And I'll echo everyone else on the Casey? creating a tech company? It just doesn't seem like something he'd be interested in.
I still miss the 2k3 series and curse 4Kids heartily for changing formats... but I don't think I'll abandon this just yet. At least it'll make TMNT 2007 pwn that much harder.
With these new weapons, I can't wait for the video game.

The weapons were cool, I have to admit that. But do they all have that shockwave effect ? When Leo slashed toward one of the winged guy, it seemed like a shockwave was created, sending the guy flying. I just hope that they all have a unique feature for each weapon. Don has a shockwave, Leo seems to have it too, in a different way. Now up to Mikey and Raph to show us what they got in those little futuristic gizmos..

That's the thing, this show is more stand alone, by 4Kids own admission, it's not going to bring you anything of that nature and increase any complicated plots, it'll be season two all over again, with filler plots everywhere, no ellaboration, and unlike the second season, they may not have a guranteed chance to make thsoe characters and storylines mean anything the FOLLOWING season.
Reallisticly, we are looking at a format that needs to have a beggining and an end with this season, and go back to the future if we're renewed to continue forward, otherwise this is heading to non-canon city for me.
Everyone thought the fourth season of Teen Titans should have, and was going to be, the final one, but they got the revival at the last minute and limped to the finish line with the most inane season of their long run, worse than the third season, that did'nt offer much other than simplified plots that led to mediocre resoultions at best

Well, I watched my frist FF episode, and it's not half bad. Aside from a few glitches and akward camera angles, it looked pretty good. The animation fares well, not as good as in the previous seasons, but...effective(allthough I still dislike the art direction), Mikey getting that robot ballte armor definatley made me laugh, and Cody isn't as annoying as I previously thought.
Allthough, I didn't see the whole episode, I had to record it and the tape cut off around the end(so if smoeone could tell me how it ended I'd be very appreciative).
7/10, not bad, let's just hope I can say that for the rest of the season

I didn't see the last episode but i figured i didn't miss much.
From what i've seen from this one, it's average but pretty good. Even though the TMNT are in daylight more often in this episode compared to other average episodes.
When they mentioned not able to bring their weapons as they travelled to 2105. I was all like "Just like in Terminator" where only living tissue can travel through time.
when I saw Uncle Darius, I didn't really think of him as the decendent of Bishop. But didn't any one else think he's a recarnation of Orson Welles? Cause if Maurice laMarche did the voice then Darius would win at a Welles look a like contest.
That and I think that Blue alien girl was cool.
And this Fast Forward isn't as bad as I knew it would. Animation is different.
But be glad they're using the same actors ;) And spoofs from the previous seasons.
i'll continue watching it cause it's still Ninja Turtles. And least the good thing is it's not a Jetson's Future, but more of a Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century/Buzz Lightyear of Star Command like future.

I'm sorry, but this is your first post and you're throwing sh*t like that out there? where's your credibility and who's your source?
Secondly - When has any season of 03's TMNT been just 13 episodes? I understand that this isn't just "The first half" of the Lost Season, it's the 13 episode arch that finishes up the current storyline left over from season 4, but the fact is that every season there has been little "fillers." Instead of doing the fillers to take up more time, the would get straight to the point and do the lost season like it's supposed to be done - Continue it and finish it.
Now, I haven't had a chance to watch this episode this week, but I plan to later tonight. I'll post what I think later on.

[I]i'll continue watching it cause it's still Ninja Turtles. And least the good thing is it's not a Jetson's Future, but more of a Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century/Buzz Lightyear of Star Command like future.

Aska Badoura:Inuwashi Gunjin= Eagle Soldiers.Ah! Thank you! My own search for a translation was impeded by not having any idea how it was spelled--so now I know!
They didn't say ["it's Ninja Time"] this time... did they? I'm already blocking it out, it seems... Yeah, they said it (don't ask me when; I can't remember), but it wasn't really used in a catch-phrase-y way. Personally, I think the only reason people are noticing it is because they're looking for it.
Putrecent: unless of course they are airing episodes out of order again..."that's our fox!" this fall on fox! *yeah!*No, impossible. Dun clearly mentioned that Future Shell-Shock's joyride took place "yesterday", so no skipped episodes--yet, anyway.
ZariusTwo:That's the thing, this show is more stand alone, by 4Kids own admission, it's not going to bring you anything of that nature and increase any complicated plots, it'll be season two all over again, with filler plots everywhere, no ellaboration, and unlike the second season, they may not have a guranteed chance to make thsoe characters and storylines mean anything the FOLLOWING season.Actually, I believe the exact phrasing was "twenty-six stand-alone episodes". While that can mean a looser structure a la Batman:TAS it could also simply mean that there are no multi-part episodes, like most of Season 4. Considering how subplots are already being set up and previous episodes are being mentioned, I feel that your assertion is a bit unfounded. Give it time, eh?
As for the episode itself...
Not bad; the series keeps reminding me of early Season 1: a lot of set-up, with the plots a bit on the dull side, while the crew and characters gelled. However, Season 1 at least had the promise of the Shredder and based-on-the-comic-book stories to keep people interested, advantages Fast Forward lacks.
Still, an alright episode (teaser aside), with some interesting developments, foremost among them, the new characters. I'm not sure what to think about Darius Dun. Not exactly what I was expecting the turtles' new big bad to look like, but still, not a bad debut. Good design, good voice...promising.
Starle Hambra (that's my spelling and I'm sticking to it until we get something official), on the other hand, I definitively like. Good design, good voice...and skates! I like the idea of different age limits for different species. I hope we see more of her, if only to have at least one female present.
The Inuwashi Gunjin: a bit dull for a villain-of-the week, but they have promise--I wouldn't mind seeing them again, to hear about their history with Dun.
So the turtles get ready to leave, and Serling breaks out...bubbly? So random.
Final question: since we know Serling was bugged last episode and would have heard about Cody's joyride from there, do y'all think he was telling the truth when he said that Biggles informed him of it?
Hey, that wasn't so bad :) In fact, I'm beginning to like that Fast Forward stuff more and more. "Obsolete" was better than "Future Shellshock" in my opinion, hope they keep up with that.
I'm really glad that the weapons are not what I imagined - blasting lasers Star Wars style and so on. Wonder what the special abilities of Raph's and Mikey's weapons are.
Anyway, I think Fast Forward will have my attention after all, the only thing I hate about it so far is the new intro song.

I liked it. It built on last week's episode and actually set up the potential of an on-going season plot with Cody's Uncle Darius.
Starly seems cool (probably a love interest for Cody), but I think she needs more screen time before I make a real decision about her.
Serling and the cop I really don't like so far. But Cody seems pretty good.
Love the new weapons (as someone else has said a FF video game would be really cool - maybe Ubisoft can do one if the movie game sells well and FF is popular).
Mikey's suit was fantastic. Loved his "violence isn't the answer" after it fell apart and how he said "future sucks" until he got his new weapons!
The show has potential (far more than I hoped for so far).
As for Turtleherder's credibility. Final judgement will come when the series launches for real in September and we see if it has new credits or not. But right now I trust him/her. The production number for Future Shellshock was 118 - 13 episodes after the end of S4. There was an old Playmates press release around the end of season 3/start of season 4 that said 117 episodes were currently finished or in some stage of production shortly before Peter Laird mentioned they had just working on Season 6 (with a new direction) in the TMNT letters page. Both of those things would support the original season 5 being a 13 episode story arc rather than 26 episode season with filler episodes.
As for finished, maybe it is now? The scripts for TLS were finished before they started FF. Production had started on those episodes, but they were put on the back burner as FF was brought forward. So all they had to do was complete them (probably tweaking some details to give the series a more complete finale). We have no idea how much work was done on them before FF was brought forward nor how much is left to be done. Since they're aiming for an early 07 release then I'd guess a lot of work is done. The cast probably recorded voices whilst working on FF so all that's left is finishing the animation.
All I'm saying is there could be truth in those words, so don't dismiss them so easily.

Inuwashi Gunjin= Eagle Soldiers. Ah! Thank you! My own search for a translation was impeded by not having any idea how it was spelled--so now I know!Usually romanized Japanese is spelled the way it sounds, but I guess you have to be semi-familiar with the sounds they have in their language. Anyway, after I thought about it a little more, "Eagle Warriors" is probably a better translation. *shrugs* Semantics are important to me.. :goofygri:
Yeah, they said it (don't ask me when; I can't remember), but it wasn't really used in a catch-phrase-y way. Personally, I think the only reason people are noticing it is because they're looking for it.
It really struck me, the first time they said it, for some reason. I guess maybe it was the timing of it, or something. It was subtler this time, and it took a second viewing before I caught it: when they came on those hover-sled-thingies to get Cody back from the Gunjin. When Mikey-tron 6000 lands with a building-shaking THUD...
Not bad; the series keeps reminding me of early Season 1: a lot of set-up, with the plots a bit on the dull side, while the crew and characters gelled. However, Season 1 at least had the promise of the Shredder and based-on-the-comic-book stories to keep people interested, advantages Fast Forward lacks.*nods* I have hopes of seeing Volume Four stuff here. We do, after all, have the premise of aliens being commonplace, and the Turtles being able to move freely through the city (they have more freedom than Cody does, ironically). Maybe not big major plots lifted from the comics, but some nods now and then could be interesting.
I know Zarius will run screaming if Seri shows up, though. ;) (I do have to trade the occasional jab, you know. You got me last time with the Venus comment. ;))
I'm missing the opening monologues, though. Maybe because it always reminded me of the first TMNT comic, with Leo narrating the beginning, (which they actually used word for word in "Things Change", and got the whole thing started). Was kind of a nice homage. Not too big a deal, but I do miss them.
Starle Hambra (that's my spelling and I'm sticking to it until we get something official), on the other hand, I definitively like.*nods* I just looked too, the closed caption does say Starley Hambrath. For whatever that's worth..(usually not much, when it comes to proper names; I've seen names spelled wrong when I have the official spelling). Sounds like Hanbreth to me, but as I said before, she was hard for me to understand. But it's not Starling (although I kind of liked that, for some reason), bad me. :p
Final question: since we know Serling was bugged last episode and would have heard about Cody's joyride from there, do y'all think he was telling the truth when he said that Biggles informed him of it?It is suspicious, isn't it? Dunno what to think about that at this point. Could be Serling doesn't even realize it. Robotics can be strange sometimes.
So the turtles get ready to leave, and Serling breaks out...bubbly? So random.Probably to celebrate their departure.
The cast probably recorded voices whilst working on FF so all that's left is finishing the animation.I'm sure they have all the production side of things finished on the Tribunal arc, I was just surprised that the Dong Woo animators had been working with it already. But I guess it depends on how they're structured.
And that robot is really gay, and I mean gay like C-3PO gay.Heeeeeyyy... C-3PO is my favorite Star Wars character! Hmm.. okay, so I guess I think snobby-sounding robot butler-types are cool or something (as opposed to drawling robot constables :dead: ). I already knew I wasn't entirely sane. :p

Okay.. now I understand about the opening credits. That I can see. However, it depresses me to think that they were just going to make season 5 only be 13 episodes, and that makes me think it's false.
As for the show. It Sucks. This was the first episode that I've seen and I wasn't impressed. The animation is lacking (hardcore lacking). When we've seen better animation in shows like "Tale of Master Yoshi" and prior seasons, I'm disgusted to think that these shows are it. The humor is also sickening. Cody doesn't annoy me as much as the stupid maid robot. Whoever said this was like the Ninja Turtles Jetsons was right. "It's Ninja Time!" makes me want to puke. The old show had better lines with "let's kick shell!" and "turtles fight with honor!" I would rather hear something rehashed from back in the day then I would hear that damn dumb retarded "It's Ninja Time!" one more time.
I also kept thinking about how poorly animated the turtles were in comparison to Cody. Their heads are all odd angles and sharp points... it's bothering me just slightly. Splinter's new animation also makes me want to puke. It's sad to know that this is where our turtles have gone and that if the movie and new toy line and new show don't do so well, this is all we're getting. I want to see the series end on a good high note, like the old show did... Instead, we may be stuck with this half-assed piece of Trash show called fast forward.
To try and make sure we do get a sixth season, I will stomach the nausiating crap that is this show and hope it gets better, because if it doesn't, I think I'll turn the TV on and just sleep through the episodes!

Aska Badoura: Usually romanized Japanese is spelled the way it sounds, but I guess you have to be semi-familiar with the sounds they have in their language. Yeah, I know; the problem was that I assumed it was just one word, instead of two, so I ended up with "Inuashigunjin"--phonetically similar, but impossible to translate.
[...]"Eagle Warriors" is probably a better translation. *shrugs* Semantics are important to me.. But wouldn't "warriors" be "bushi" (like with the wooden warriors in The Ninja Tribunal)? In any case, given their whole servitude thing, I think describing them as "soldiers" would be more accurate than calling them "warriors". Warriors can act for themselves; soldiers act for their commanders.
Me:So the turtles get ready to leave, and Serling breaks out...bubbly? So random. Aska:Probably to celebrate their departure. Yeah, but given the target audience for the show, it was weird seeing a bottle and glasses usually associated with alcoholic drinks. Still, I suppose if you're going to celebrate, bubbly (or its 2105 equivalent) fits. The question is, was it for Cody, or for himself?
Final question: since we know Serling was bugged last episode and would have heard about Cody's joyride from there, do y'all think he was telling the truth when he said that Biggles informed him of it? It is suspicious, isn't it? Dunno what to think about that at this point. Could be Serling doesn't even realize it. Robotics can be strange sometimes.A point of clarification: the "he" in my original sentence referred to Darius Dun, not Serling. Given the bug on Serling, it's safe to say that Darius would have known about Cody's joyride whether or not Biggles informed him of it--the constable is mentioned only so as not to arouse suspicion. The question is, did Biggles call at all, or was that a lie? Either is possible.
On that note, somebody in another forum asked a very important question: is Serling willing taking part in Dun's manipulations, or is he simply a patsy? His rescue of the turtles in the first episode would seem to indicate "patsy" (or else he could have let the turtles to the NYPD, and claimed to Cody that he couldn't arrive in time), but I either is still possible, at this point.
I'm missing the opening monologues, though. Maybe because it always reminded me of the first TMNT comic, with Leo narrating the beginning, (which they actually used word for word in "Things Change", and got the whole thing started). Was kind of a nice homage. Not too big a deal, but I do miss them. Yeah, I'll miss them too; it's a comic-booky device which helped the show stand out, and there were a lot of great ones (Zog's, both of Bishop's flashbacks, The Slayer's). Still, if the creators were serious about treating this as a new show, then I supposed retiring the device made sense).

Okay. The animator in me protests to all this negativity about the animation. The animation is on par with anything else they've ever done. The opening scene with them doing their acrobatics in the sitting room is beautiful. Just the right amount of anticipation, motion, and follow-through, nothing less than what I'd expect of this team after four seasons. The whole scene when Cody was falling, with Mikey diving to catch him, and missing, the Gunjin shoving him aside and leaping off the roof, as well as Raph riding the hover-thing, was all wonderful. Leo coming at Cody with his katana to slice the ropes was also beautiful. There is nothing here that I would call sub-par. If you don't like the style, than say the style, not the animation. If you have an issue with any of the actual motion, that's fine, but it's no worse than anything else we've seen in this show, and much better than several other episodes I could name. It may just be semantics to you guys, but it's driving me crazy to see people fussing about the animation when it hasn't changed. You may not like the more simplified style of the individual drawings, but that's NOT the fault of the animators. Your issue is with the production side. Give the people a break!
Yeah, I know; the problem was that I assumed it was just one word, instead of two, so I ended up with "Inuashigunjin"--phonetically similar, but impossible to translate.
Oh, yeah, you do have a point. I think I may have heard the word 'gunjin' before, so I kinda had an idea already. But they did kind of say it all at once.
Hmm. Now that you mention it, you're right. I did think that "warrior" sounds more romantic, and they do have a sense of honor (atrophied as it is, as one admitted); they're not automatons. But "gunjin" does hold the connotation of an army, a number of troops rather than individual warriors, and it doesn't seem to hold the connotation of honor that "bushi" does, which seems to fit.
Isn't "soldiers" actually "senshi" though?Lessee (heh, give me a Japanese dictionary and I'm happy for hours  )... "gunjin" is, literally, "army/war person". "Senshi" is "war/battle samurai/gentleman". I guess "senshi" has the connotation of being an honorable warrior (an honorable person who actually fights, rather than one who just sits around and looks elegant, I guess), while "gunjin" is apparently just a guy who's been hired to fight in an army. While I'm looking here, "bushi" is "chivalrous/armed samurai/gentleman", which is similar to "senshi", but just says the guy is armed (and reiterates that he's a gentleman), rather than that he actually participates in battle. Whew, so many subtle meanings you can attach to a word...
And no, we know this has nothing to do with the episode itself, but it's interesting to dissect languages once in a while...
Yeah, but given the target audience for the show, it was weird seeing a bottle and glasses usually associated with alcoholic drinks. Still, I suppose if you're going to celebrate, bubbly (or its 2105 equivalent) fits. The question is, was it for Cody, or for himself?Do robots drink? Perhaps so. :)

Well, Constable Annoyance did show up, so someone called him eventually... whether he knew in advance or not could mean a lot, like he's being paid off or something. Maybe he's supposed to be annoying so we'll hate him, 'cuz he's actually more sinister than he looks. Sounds good to me, I like having justification for being annoyed to death. :p

Ok, juuuust watching this episode.
The first two minutes in the 'sitting room' were the stupidest things I have ever seen. What respectful person, let alone parent in their right mind lets their children trash someone else's house? Not to mention be a part of it. Great lesson we're seeing here...
5 minutes in, and I'm already bored and wondering when it'll be over...
Oh, and by the way... Don thinks that staying inside all day to play with techie gadgets and games sounds boring? That line would almost be better suited to Mikey, but this is hardly a point to argue...
Funny they didn't have their seatbelts on in the first place...
Interesting that Don/April/Casey founded the company. Those musta been some fun meetings... (Actually, I do admit that that was an interesting point... seeing as all the tension and all that...)
*snerks* Don's such a gentleman... but he pushed Leo back? Hm...
Don's a StarWars geek, by the looks of his new bo. And Mike 'overcompensating'? Ha, that made me laugh.
By the way, I can't look at those flying guys wings without thinking of the Target symbol.
I still contend that Dunn IS Bishop, as we already know he has swapped bodies before.
...Ok, I hate the new weapons... And if Cody is gonna be this 'damsel in distress' every week... UGH. Whatever. I don't care about ANY of the characters in this 'new series'. Though the fact that this episode made me laugh once is better than last week. I'm still completely bored and disenchanted with this whole thing. All I can do is wonder when the episodes are gonna be OVER; that's a bad sign. There's nothing in it that interests me (ok, aside from the fact that April/Don/Casey founded the company. But we ALL know they won't go so far as to actually discuss that. Because it would be, you know, actually INTERESTING ). It sucks, really badly.

well so far, I see some people dislike this Fast Forward season. Course I wasn't expecting many to. it's not my choice either for the TMNT. But least it's still something to watch. Has brighter colors than the other seasons but the action is still there from what I've seen in this episode.
If it had different voice acting, and the turtle looking 100% then I'd be disappointed with it.
And with the Lost Season yet to be release I'm not at all worry about TMNT's status. For now we know this FF will be for 1 season. And get back to the regular style, depenting what the next season is about.

I just got to watch the episode and... it's entertaining. I work fulltime during the summer and 20 minutes of childish release is what I'm looking for after a long day. The show works wonders.
I loved Mikey's battle armor. If you noticed, Leo's were the most basic (still metal blades), Raph went for laser beams, Don for the compact bo and Mikey for the awesome suit of DOOM. Shows a little more about the characters.
I still love the theme song. I love it waaaaaaaaaaaay too much. I just listen to it on loop. I may be nuts.
It was a decent episode and I believe it will lay the groundwork for many episodes to come. Look back on episodes 1 and 2 of the first season, most of it was spent teasing you about things to come. Hell, we didn't even SEE Shredder until what? Episode 10? I think they're taking their time to build a foundation.

I wonder if Mikey will still use the battle suit since its fallen apart and then at the end he was giving brand new nuun chucks, However its spelled.

Welp, just got around to seeing it. This episode was better than last week's episode, but that's not saying much. The animation has gotten better, I liked how the animation team executed the fight scenes and the workout in the beginning. The story picked up a bit as the episode progressed. And the new weapons are pretty cool.
I dunno, I think I actually thought this episode was pretty good. I can't say I'm satisfied with the direction of this franchise, rushing into the future for the sake of keeping the Turtles on... but what can you do? I guess all I can do is just look forward to the rest of the season.

It's refreshing to find someone else who seems to enjoy the new theme song just as much as I do. I find it inoffensive and fun to listen and sing along to.
I'm definitely a little late to the party to be sharing my two cents about the episode, but I will say that I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm actually extremely happy that everything doesn't always appear so dark and foreboding as the previous series. That opinion, though, seems to be very unpopular. ;)

As one of the people still not-quite-impressed with the animation, allow me to explain. :P
You do have to agree that the first episode was sub-par as far as animation is concerned. As in the actual movements, yes. Even the worse 2k3 episodes tend to look better than that.
This second installment... much better. The opening "training" scene (which makes me angry because I know Splinter raised them better than that, and there he is egging them on...?!) had some decent stuff going on.
But I think that the very designs we don't like are making the animation look bad. They look like they were created more "to look cool" than "to look good animated." Therefore, even if the movements are right, it looks wrong. They don't seem to work well in 3D, which is why things like head turns look so bad.
Splinter looked better in this episode (IMO) because his design changed (on purpose or not) so it looks more like it did before. And I think it looks better in motion.
Again... this is only what I think. It looks bad not because the animators suddenly suck, but because nobody has figured out how to rescue those designs yet. (And the envirosuit thingies must be murder to keep drawing over and over... those poor people...)

If you look at the previous seasons, especially the bad eps, you can see that they still sturggled with the style and keeping something as basic as the turtles on model, even after having a couple seasons under their belt. Reason being, because those heavy line weights are pretty hard to animate and keep consistant.
I think the intetion was to simplify the designs, so that dong woo (the animation company) could stay more on model with the characters and props and hopefully animate them more fluidly and with ease, when animating...
Too bad Dong Woo isn't really known for it's quality in the animation industry...
but as you can kind of see with the first two episodes, it gets progressively better. the first one is dong woo gettin their feel down. the 2nd one, as you can tell, was closer to what the tmnt team was going for. as for the third ep comin this week, who knows. maybe it'll be even that much more closer to what the intended style is... and hopefully really really violent.

Having watched the latest episode, I have only two reflections to share with you, guys.
Reflection numero uno: This show ain't that bad. I expected something way worse and this series actually can be watched to kill my time in the evening and I don't feel guilty after seeing it. I almost got used to the new revolutionary animation style. Tho' I must admit, this show seems to have tad more petty goofs than the 2K3, for instance the whole turtle height thing, differing from one scene to another. 2k3 was almost goofless.
Reflection numero duo: "Obsolete" was pretty boring. I yawned a few times and didn't laugh at least once. Not enough fighting scenes, too much babbling. Not enough good puns to amuse me well. This show definitely lacks a "Casey Jones"-like figure for me. Mikey's trying very hard to compensate Casey's absence and tries to act like Mikey AND Casey in one... that's why he's twice as goofy as in the 2K3 series. That's pretty pathetic.
But yeah, I'm looking forward to the third episode. I'm still giving this show a chance.

Add me to the group of people who enjoy the theme song; I find it much better than the series' previous 2.5 theme songs. I also quite like the scenes chosen for the opening montage; I think they fit perfectly, and will miss it when it gets replaced on September.
I will, however, say that as a piece of music, the new theme is quite sub-par, and it's constant inclussion in the background music grates something fierce.
As for the art, what bothers me is not the designs or the animation, but rather the uninspired storyboarding/direction, particularly during battles. TMNT has never been one for very dynamic camera angles—its forte has always been choreography, which makes up for it. However, the battles we’ve seen so far in Fast Forward have been a bit on the simple side, which makes the faults in storyboarding, to me, very obvious.

Well, since we are a few hours away to the next episode, I might as well say, I REAAAALLLY don't like the girl in the show. I know they have some double standard that Boy's cartoons have to have positive female role models, and girl's cartoons can have one dimentional Shallow fashinon obsessed bimbos (like Bratz)... but the only thing I can say is she's better than a girl turtle. That's it.
I don't enjoy the show as much as the 2003 series, and I don't know if I'll like future episodes or hate the series with a passion (though I will admit, I'll get the 4 Turtles and Splinter as action figures).
And what really dawned on me was that Cody is pretty much the stereotypical kid from every cartoon show made in the past decade. Very Generic. And there's NOOOOOO Casey Jones. Just memories of him. I find it pretty sad.

*rolls eyes at self* Have to get one last word in..
As one of the people still not-quite-impressed with the animation, allow me to explain. :p*winces* Oh, oops. Okay. :goofygri:
You do have to agree that the first episode was sub-par as far as animation is concerned. As in the actual movements, yes. Even the worse 2k3 episodes tend to look better than that.*nods* The fight in the alley wasn't bad; nothing to write home about, though.
This second installment... much better. The opening "training" scene (which makes me angry because I know Splinter raised them better than that, and there he is egging them on...?!) had some decent stuff going on.*shrugs* Splinter has his mischevious streak. He's probably trying to teach Serling a lesson (if it's even applicable to a robot). But anyway, that aside, I do enjoy good anticipation and follow-through, and they had that.
But I think that the very designs we don't like are making the animation look bad. They look like they were created more "to look cool" than "to look good animated." Therefore, even if the movements are right, it looks wrong. They don't seem to work well in 3D, which is why things like head turns look so bad.Hrm. You do have a point. I think I've been paying more attention to the action scenes than the restful stuff. During the scenes I mentioned, yeah, I noticed that the curve on the back of the leg is much less defined, things like that, but I do think they're doing okay with what they have. It wouldn't be so jarring if it hadn't been more detailed before, and I think that's most of the problem; we're not used to seeing it that way.
Splinter looked better in this episode (IMO) because his design changed (on purpose or not) so it looks more like it did before. And I think it looks better in motion.I still have the halfway-serious personal theory that they're going to totally revert back to the old style by the end of the season. :p Remember how different the Turtles' designs ended up from the model sheets last time?
(And the envirosuit thingies must be murder to keep drawing over and over... those poor people...)I know... but I've seen worse. Classic Transformers comes to mind. Awfully detailed to be drawing over and over and over, usually ending up looking sloppy... nowadays, they're just computer-generated with a cel shader, for the most part.
I think the intetion was to simplify the designs, so that dong woo (the animation company) could stay more on model with the characters and props and hopefully animate them more fluidly and with ease, when animating...
Too bad Dong Woo isn't really known for it's quality in the animation industry...*smirk* I'd never heard of them till 2K3, and I've been pretty impressed so far. It could be a whole lot worse. Allow me to introduce you to a studio like... Nelvana. :dead: (are they even around anymore?)
but as you can kind of see with the first two episodes, it gets progressively better. the first one is dong woo gettin their feel down. the 2nd one, as you can tell, was closer to what the tmnt team was going for. as for the third ep comin this week, who knows. maybe it'll be even that much more closer to what the intended style is...*nods* The first season was that way. He probably doesn't know much about them, other than what he's read in the journal. If Casey didn't write about their deaths (too painful? He went first? Who knows?), Cody would be in the dark.
I also find it odd that cody hasn't even mentiond anything about splinters passing or the future turtles....just seems kinda odd...:ohwell:

I've seen the character line ups from the shows production and one aspect of the design which may not be obvious from just watching the show is that each Turtle now has their own distinctive height and body type. In the previous seasons all three were the same model with only their cotume and skin colors to differentiate them from one another. For instance now Raph is taller and bigger than the others, Don is slimmer, Mikey shorter and rounder, and Leo's kind of the basic hero body type. Raph tallest, then Don, followed by Leo (although Leo and Don are pretty close, technically looks like Don is taller), last is Mikey. That's probably why you're getting the feeling that the heights are changing from one scene to another.

Look at this! And look at little shrimpy Michelangelo!
I thought for a bit that he was in a different scale, he's so tiny!
I dunno why this freaks me out so much.. it reminds me a bit of those Warner Brothers designs. That's just weird... I don't think I ever thought of them as being anything but physically identical. This is a revolutionary thought for me. And it must be throwing the animators for a loop, considering that, so far in FF, they've all appeared to be around the same height as they used to be, most of the time. It's those times where they're drastically different that it's right. Wow. http://www.geocities.com/jafarnut/blink.gif
The stupid thing is, that they haven't updated the profiles on the 4Kids website, and it still claims they're all 5'2". :p
