What should we expect? Let's speculate or invent a soundtrack for it.

My guess: We can probably expect a number of instrumental tracks (ala Batman). The few lyrical songs will likely be forgettable songs made exclusively for the project, like 'Ninja Rap' without the iconic performer whose name will later become the punch-line of many a joke.

What I'd like to hear: Industrial.

What I'd hate to hear: Pop, or anything else mainstream.

Lyrics they should avoid: Vulgarity and sexual references. That shouldn't need to be said, but there's no other way to explain the soundtrack to the live-action Street Fighter movie and tons of other comic films. TMNT is too good for that.

I'd like to see a fair amount of rock tunes, sprinkled with a few rock/pop melodies for good measure. I don't expect there to be any heavy metal, per se, though some suitably deep, rockin' tunes would fit in nicely with the edgy look of the film. It also wouldn't hurt to have some solid songs by renowned artists, just to elevate the soundtrack to another plateau, so to speak.

...In any event, a remix of "Tarzan Boy" would officially make me wet my pants in excitement.

Some NY undeground hip hop would be amazing but they should probably just stick to instrumental tracks.

It'll be mostly instrumental, I presume. With a slight hip-hop accent in the credits.

I'm sure they'll put together some amazing scores (I hope they put out a CD of the scores its self so I can use for a fan film I'm thinking of!)

but I hope they have a mix considering that I cant see all the turtles listening to the same kind of music.

Isn't Don into country? In the first videogame for the 2K3 series, they had him say "Yee-Haw", "Rawhide" & "Crack The Whip" so often that one would conclude... Mike's the one with the sci-fi fascination. Don doesn't have much time for television. When he does, he'd rather watch something educational.

yeah, that would be incredible.

i think they should stick mainly to score with maybe some instrumental hip hop for some lighthearted parts with mikey and stuff.

I love rock, but I don't know if I'd like that for the soundtrack. Lyrics distract me; I'd just want instrumentals. I like cormano's idea.

Liking 'Western' stuff =/= liking country.

Howzabout some Jon Peter Lewis? I hear that guy's not bad. :P lol Don would LOVE his stuff.

I'd like a tiny throwback somewhere in the movie or in the credits where they play either
a) the original cartoon theme
b) the first movie's credits song "T-U-R-T-L-E Power"

The first is more likely, it'd be neat if they incorporated it into the movie. Like when Mike is in the Cowabunga Carl van it would play music like an ice cream truck, but instead of "Do your ears hang low" or whatever ice cram trucks play, the carl van would play an instrumental original toon theme. It'd go nicely with the "Cowabunga" part in the van's name.

I'm a HUGE fan of instrumentals, but the beginning/end credits should be fair game... just nothing too weird. And screaming vocals make my ears bleed.

Dangit, someone posted something really cool on this subject a while back that would be amazing if you could actually pull it off. I think I shall go forum digging...

Dangit, someone posted something really cool on this subject a while back that would be amazing if you could actually pull it off. I think I shall go forum digging...Haha, found it.
I was thinking how could it be to have a basic background instrumental that has a variaton depending on which character was being forcused on. It Unifies them as brothers and a team but changes to signify their personalities.
Example... it gets a little harder with some heavier bass on Raph or gets a little Techno with Don, becomes a little lighter bouncier with mikey or more melodic and fluid with Leo with the intensity about half of what Raph's may be but powerful cause he is the leader...It could be four themes in one song and at one point it could combine in a clever way...agh I wish I could compose! Darn my lack of musical talent!
I dunno just a random thought when I was walking to work listening to Sin City instrumental The Servant.
The idea is reminiscent of how Danny elfman works when he does stuff for tim burton. He gives everything it's own theme, there is never anything generic. Now, how cool would that be?

Ra
11-20-2006, 03:07 AM
I would so fall out of my chair if Danny himself wanted to help out with the score :o Shemh, in my dreams, right? :P

I personally think a remix of T.U.R.T.L.E. POWER should be thrown in at some point. Say Casey is at a night club with April or something, and it's playing as they walk in. Just something that can blend in, but us older turtle fans can go "YEAH!" at. Or Vanilla Ice's "Ninja Rap" playing, with Casey looking at it and saying something like "Who the hell would listen to that stuff?"

For the score itself, I'm thinking of a very dark theme, but a bit hip-hoppy, rocky, underground-y or something-y for variety. I'm thinking more rock to be truthful. Maybe something similar to what they were playing in the background of the sneak-peek at the new game? (if ya want to see, just look on Youtube)

I have my faith in the makers of the score. I have a good feeling that they are trying to DO something, unlike the recent games people at Konami have thrown out...

I *love* the idea of the Cowabunga Carl van playing the 80s theme! YES! I'd be cheering in the middle of the theatre! They definitely need to do some nostalgia for the credits too.

It'd be awesome to see a revamped version of that insturmental that plays in TMNT1 when you first get introduced to the guys, their shadows on the sewer. That one always makes me giddy and dancey (:

Maybe a kind of 'theme' music for each turtle? Nothing really hugely obvious, maybe variations on a theme. I'd like to hear Mikey's sounding like it was made on an old video game system.

For an overall feel, I'd like some rock but not pop-rock....more generic rock I guess with some leaning towards metal with non-boring guitar arrangements. Fights scenes = GUITARS to me. I think it would rather disturb my TMNT-watching experience if we've got 'crawwwlling innnn my skiiiiin!' as the TMNT are sneaking around though ^_~ I don't have anything against it as music, it just...doesn't seem to fit. I also agree that lyrics might get in the way. As much as I love a song to sing along to ;p

I do like the drum thing they've got going on in the trailer.....more of that would be cool. I can see it having some variations put into it to give us some Splinter music (traditional Japanese-esq), Raph music, etc. There is also something about the low booming cymbals/drums that reminds me of the first movie and I can see that 'intro music' I mentioned fitting well with it.

I can see it going the way of Blade's soundtrack too.

So many options!

It should be a hip hop-ish style soundtrack, just beats no vocals.

I hate rap, I hate beats, but it works. Pop music sucks, Rock sucks, and I can't stand that emo crap.

I love metal, good metal. Not slipknot, not Lamb Of God. I'm talking something that takes talent and has some bad ass solos. Like Arch Enemy or Children Of Bodom. But that would not work for a movie. To me though COB would be awesome for TMNT. It's up beat, fast, and gets you pumped but that's just me I guess.

I can see Mikey walking down the street/cruising through the shadows with his brothers and quietly singing Ninja Rap until Raph smacks him. He'd also be a good canditate to have a CD player playing one of the 80s/early 90s songs from the previous movies....or surf rock (...maybe not >_> ) or some kind of really bouncey pop rock (System of a Down? heh).

I think that there should be a variation of music.

I think that some good Japanese Drumming would be good, maybe some heavy traditional Japanese-influenced mellow guitar solo ambiance.. maybe some Mad Capsule Markets (Scary? Pulse?) for a fight scene or two would be awsome.

Oh, and don't forget to throw in some turtle-tunes. I'm liking the idea of T.U.R.T.L.E. Power though.

The TMNT site (http://www.ninjaturtles.com) has posted this information:

"I recently saw the Klaus Badelt, the great composer of "Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl" will be composing the music for the 2007 TMNT movie. This goes along with the interviews I've read about the movie makers attempting to create a recognizable theme for our favorite Turtles. Just thought I'd give a "heads-up" if it hadn't yet been reported."

It's apparently confirmed.

Alexi is a great singer, I love his vocals. I hate that whiny crap those other metal bands do where they have clean vocals. Clean vocals and metal is not cool and never was. People need to realize that and never do it again.

There's a new magazine out called 'Rocket' which features Ghost Rider on the cover but has a 4 page spread about TMNT. The interview is with Kevin Munroe and it's pretty enlightening, although most of it is stuff we've heard already. However...

On the last page they are asked about the soundtrack. Munroe replies that 'Panic at the Disco' is featured, then later he mentions 'Green Day', to what's happening now and hip-hop. I'm sorry I don't recall exactly what was said but if anyone can find the magazine it's there. I saw it at Borders earlier.

One thing that really bothered me was in that same reply he mentioned that they had to tone down Marco Beltrami's scrore (Hellboy and T3) because it was 'too dark' for fight scenes and they had to 'lighten it up'. I'm not sure how Klaus' name got linked with the score but Munroe clearly states Beltrami. I just don't want to hear Green Day over a fight scene or that "band" Panic at the Disco...

First of all, the interview was with the Producer, Tom Gray, not Kevin Munroe.

All of the stuff regarding specific names of bands was simply in reference to the TYPE of music we can expect, not actually who we can expect.

Beltrami is mentioned because the interview took place approx. two months ago, so the score hadn't changed hands yet.

Thank God. That's definitely good news to hear, maybe I should have read the introduction before jumping to conclusions about it being Kevin Munroe. I'm glad the score went to Klaus, while I like Beltrami's work on Hellboy, I think Klaus could give it a more epic feel. Let's hope Munroe has enough sense to exnay Green Day (no offense to those of you who like the band).

So Marco's not doing the score, that's disapointing, and the reason being because it sounded too dark, oh for god's sake!
I don't like where they're going with this.
Maybe they should unsharpen Leo's Katana's, and make Raph less angry.
Kevin Munroe has stated numerous times that he loved Marco's score.
Klaus Badelt's CV just ain't as impressive, some terrible movies on it.
There goes the brooding atmosphere anyway, GRRRRR!
Well they should get someone else to voice Casey Jones, if they're in a mood for changing things around, why couldn't they get Eilas?
That would have been a great past reference for fans of the original movie.

Oh man, that is not good. I personally would be very happy with a soundtrack with no popular music... I mean kids aren't going to care whether they hear Green Day or not. Can you seriously be required to change your musical score to keep it a PG movie? I didn't know music had ratings (unless there's swear words and sexual innuendo and stuff).

Someday... maybe in the TMNT's third wave of popularity (20 years or so from now), maybe we'll get to see a movie with gore and angst and a "dark" soundtrack.

I don't know. I'm all for "dark and brooding," but it has to fit the movie... and it has to fit the turtles. I think they're a little more rock n roll than gothic fugue.

The score was too dark? :|

Unless there were clear refrences to satan in it I don't see what made it so bad. They said they were going for a darker feel to the movie, yet the felt they needed to lighten the score?

Music can be very dark no need to mention 'satan' or anything, its like an insult to music (sorry if i over reacted but i love music).

Shame that the score was changed hopefully the new soundtrack is still somewhat dark, i'll try to be positive by thinking that maybe a really dark soundtrack wouldn't be the best for TMNT even if its a gritier movie.

Metal on fightscenes is usually good, i mean i enjoy an epic score for fight scenes as well but 'loud' music also goes well in fight scenes.

Hopefully the soundtrack is good.

I guess that is the reason the videogame was not able to have music from the movie since they changed it. I read they had to make their own 'turtle' music.

I love guitar music, but if I want to hear that I'll go to a gig.
Big orchestral scores give movies bigger scope and really make a film, they're so much more dramatic and exciting, they create atmosphere, keep chart music for movies like The last Kiss or It's A Boy Girl Thing.

I'm so disapointed that they changed Marco's score, I'm not looking forward to the movie as much now, they seem to be moving away from the atmosphere created by the teaser by too far a margin and it's bloody frustrating.
I was delighted when I heard he was doing it, he seems like a really well respected composer, who's done tracks for some big franchise movies as well as other good action/sci-fi flicks.
But it's not to be:(

Metal crap? I don't know what metal you listen to but it's one of the most talent based genres out there. Sadly bands like Lamb Of God and Slipsuck ruin that imagine by being the most mainstream. So everyone's out look on metal is bad. While bands like Arch Enemy or Children Of Bodom are over looked, both of which contain some extremely talented musicians. Or played off because people would rather hear some guy cry over the microphone like he's doing a ballad instead of growling or screaming vocals.

Metal and clean vocals DO NOT and NEVER WILL go together. I don't get why people just won't understand that.

Metal is about anger, that's the point. You can't get anger across by singing like your auditioning for American Idol.

And while some bands do project the image of worshiping Satan the good bands I'm speaking of do not and hardly promote that dark devil worshiper look.

Also anger and depression can go hand in hand, bands like Dark Tranquility use deep growling vocals and have some really good lyrics.

I guess I'm a talent based person, Rock is not half as talented as metal. And American metal is just above rock but still not as talented as European metal.

Classical stuff is usually boring because I've heard it all a million times over. Orchestral pieces are good for movies but they don't hold over well for something to sit down and listen to.

I have however become fond of the soundtracks for a few video games, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil. I actually bought the soundtrack for DMC and DMC 2. Oddly enough I find techno to be the most talentless brand of music next to rap but it still stimulates me.

But when it comes to guitars and drums I was screaming solos and impressive drum beats. Rock bands cannot deliver that in the least. And while the singer might be a good singer the band itself sucks. Most bands don't have solos in every song but that's what I love. I love to hear guys shred on guitar and you just don't get that in American music because for some reason us Americans just aren't as good of musicians as Europeans. It's always been that way in my opinion. There's exceptions to everything but all the good stuff that influences our rock and metal is European.

Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Dio, Scorpions, UFO, M.S.G., The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and Yngwie Malmsteen. By far the best examples of what Europe has to offer.

PLEASE NO METAL!!!
I can stand rock (Something like hero from the first Spider-Man movie would be ok with me)
I was raised on hiphop and rap (Not the mainstream crap of today) and can tell you if Metal is a main genre on the soundtrack I will stay way clear from purchasing the CD and it will ruin many parts for me and many that dislike the genre also throughout the movie. Metal is mostly a genre that you love or hate and I feel it will cut into sales for the CD and get on peoples nerve whom don't like it. I feel they should stick to a mix of Rock/HipHop with a very memorable ending-credits song like on all 3 of the other movies.

Kind alike how rap and rock music gets on my nerves and people like me won't buy the CD and would ruin parts of the movie for myself.

Funny how that works both ways?

I'm not saying Metal should be the soundtrack hell I just want orchestral music myself but if I had to pick I'd prefer a Batman Beyond-ish soundtrack to some hip hop beats.

i listen to every kind of music, but as far as metal is concerned, i love it just as much, but when the whole song is just a guy screaming so much that u can't understand a word he says, that's just not entertaining and i like them for the instrument playin and beats. screaming can be fine, but in moderation, it needs to be mixed with normal singing, for example Killswitch Engage or Mushroomhead, lol i know i'll prolly get more people complaining about them, but like i said, i listen to everything because i love music period, so sue me:P

Ok, I don't want to come off sounding like a bastard here, but pretty-much everything Spitfire's just said about metal is wrong.

Clean vocals don't go hand-in-hand with metal? Are you kidding? Iron Maiden, anyone? Blind Guardian? Just about any power-metal band? Hell, the guy singing in Falconer is a professional opera performer.

Growling is the thing that's out of place in heavy metal, that only came later. With Hetfield and Mustaine and stuff, thrash. Traditional metal? Aside from maybe Ozzy and Lemmy, metal was always reasonably high-pitched and melodic in terms of vocalization.

Just pointing that out. Vocals like Trivium and System Of A Down are a new-ish phenomenon, not really representative of heavy metal music as a whole. Bruce Dickinson's singing is the type of thing you should be looking at when describing this type of music. That style.

Oh, and for the record, Ronnie James Dio is a New Yorker. Not European.

Also, heavy metal is rock music. Just as punk or new-wave or indie or ska are essentially rock music. Sub-genres.

Now, as much of a metal fan as I am, it's simply not right for the Turtles anyway. Non-lyrical orchestral score with maybe one or two goofy gimmick songs thrown in (a la the '90s flicks) is the way to go here.

I understand that. Thing is rock is accepted by more people and would make for better sales. Also I didn't say rap, I said Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop and Rap are 2 different things. Metal is a sub-genre of Rock as Rap is a sub-genre of Hip-Hop.

Sub-genres.

I wasn't refereing to the older styles of metal. Obviously they go fine with that being as how that was how it was back then. NOW OF DAYS IN THE PRESENT, riffs are alot harsher and metal is alot stronger. People tune down lower and high pitch vocals do not sound good at all with with people playing in drop D.

Metal is a harsher version of rock, other then them using the same instruments their nothing alike.

James hardly growls, he yells. Same with Mustaine. You have no concept of what growling vocals are obviously.

Yeah Dio is from New York but he performed in many European bands and is currently bringing Sabbath back together as Heaven And Hell and doing a tour.

You can talk about 80's metal all you want newer metal maybe influenced by it but it's alot harsher and with harsher riffs comes in with harsher vocals. Have Bruce sing for Arch Enemy, or Dimmu Borgir and see how that sounds. When you have clean vocals in metal it ends up sounding like Into Eternity or *shivers* new Soilwork. It sounds terrible. Yeah it worked int he 80's and early 90's but it doesn't fly anymore.

Actually, I have always found Marco's scores to be quite dull. His emotionless score to T3 falls flat next to Brad Feidel's score on T2. The score on Hellboy was his best. Scream, other than Sydney's theme, pretty much became the template for most of his scores, and was even stuffed into Halloween H20.

If you ask me. John Ottman or Steve Jablonsky. Jablonsky, of course, composed for The Island(check out the My Name is Lincoln track), The Texas Chainsaw Remake(which I thought his score was the only positive thing about the film) and is working on the upcoming Transformers score. Ottman updated John Williams' Superman score for Superman Returns, and worked on Fantastic Four, X2, the good music from Halloween H20, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and the guy can double bill as an editor as well.

I also kinda wish they could throw in a little bit of DuPrez's score from the first TMNT film. Not really the main theme, but the subtle themes, like the one that plays when Raph is looking out of the sewer lid at April at the beginning. It has this kinda subtle eastern sound to it.

As far as Bladelt goes..I ain't too sure on the guy. The score for Pirates of the Caribbean is an amazing score, but I can never determine how much of it is his and how much of it is Hans Zimmer. Bladelt is credited for the first score, but Zimmer apparently worked on it as well, and takes the credit for the second film's score, which, other than a few themes, is mainly a rehash of the first film's score. Badelt aslo score Ultraviolet, but for the life of me, I cant remember that score, and that movie was so horrid, that I dont even want to remember it.

Masked Ninja

I frequent a site that streams soundtracks, and another score by Badelt (The Time Machine) comes up a lot, and it sounds pretty good. From what I hear, he's kinda like a student of Hans Zimmer, so we might get the same kind of style from him. Which would be OK by me.

I could agree with you on Jablonsky - The Island wasn't a terribly good movie, but I liked the score. I think Bedelt can pull it off, but there are so many other score composers whose takes on TMNT I can wonder about. I like being a movie score geek :)

The idea of Raph and Leo kicking the crap out of each other to some heavy metal crap sounds terrible.

Does anyone know who's score it is with the new trailer?
If it is Klaus, well it sounds great, but if it is still Marco I think they've made a big mistake taking it from his hands.
I think metal can very easily have it's place within a TMNT movie, but not necessarily as music set to a scene as much as music playing on a radio that happens to be playing during a scene. Similar to this one Vol. 1 TMNT comic where one of the TMNT commented that he heard some Metallica playing on a radio where a couple of rival gangs were about to go at it.

For the movie, I want to hear music similar to the teaser and the trailer. Dark, adventurous, martial arts-esque, and somewhat epic.

I really dont want to hear songs. I really want to hear score, a good score. I really wonder if the music in the trailers were part of films' score, and if so that wouldn't be too bad. I'm hoping they really pull something that's emotional and herioc and something I would want to listen day in and day out on my iPod, and not just the run-of-the-mill phoned in movie score.

As for the trailer music, I believe that was covered in the "Front Lines" thread... Kevin said it was not the actual music, but quite similar to the sound they were going for. I might have to dig up that post for ya.

I would actually love it if there was a soundtrack CD AND a score CD. I'm not too picky about the songs they use for the movie - it'll be labeled as Turtle music for me, so it'll all be good. The soundtracks for the first three movies all remain a guilty pleasure of mine. :)

And yes, I asked Kevin about the music in the trailer.. he said it wasn't from the actual score, but something similar to the tone/feel it will have.

Hmm...I wonder if i could find that music somewhere then. Actually, now that you mention it, some of the music in the newest trailer sounded kinda like music that was used in the trailer for the first spiderman movie.

I really hope the score IS better than the triailer music, becuase it is really disappointing when the trailer music is better than the film's actual music. Example:Troy. Man, was the trailer music really good. The actual score sucked!

I would like to actually have a score CD for TMNT. I think the only score made available for the first films was the "Shredder Suite" on the first soundtrack or am I wrong?

And that score is surprising good as funny as that sounds. I wouldn't mind hearing some refferences to it in the new score, but I doubt that will happen.

Anyways, to me the score is one of the things that can make and break some movies. I've hated movies just for having lousy music before.

Masked Ninja

That score track from the first movie (Shredder's Suite) was so '80s, and I love it. I wouldn't mind bits like that, but some good epic action music for most of it would be perfect for me. :)

The score in the Trailer will not be the score in the movie itself, but sound similar?
Does Kevin mean a different composer did the score for the trailer but won't do the movie one, or does he mean Klaus did one especially for the trailer?
I wish someone would clear up who is responsible for the score on the new trailer, I think it sounds really good.
I just hope it is Klaus, after all he is now officially the composer after Marco got the boot.

Actually both tracks are performed by bands that specifically make trailer music. One of them is by a band called X-Ray Dog and the other is by Immediate Music. I know one of the tracks is called Heavenly Warriors. Although I can't find either to download anyway, which sucks about trailer music is that they are a pain to find sometimes

It's "Heaven's Warriors" by Immediate Music and "Alpha Commander" by X-Ray Dog. Immediate Music put out their first (public) CD Epicon last year under their commercial name Globus. Heaven's Warriors isn't on it though. X-Ray Dog's is probably the one everyone's remembering from the trailer...it's from the second half. Unfortunately, like most of Immediate Music's, X-Ray Dog's catalog of music is only available to movie studios.

If you'd like to hear these two songs though...send me a PM and I'll help you out when I'm not at the office.

Cobra Starship has a song on the soundtrack and it was just recorded. You can go to there myspace add them as a friend and view the bulletin save the drama for your mama but heres what was said about it.

*speaking of Shredder. Did you know that there’s a new Ninja Turtles movie coming out? Yeah, but did you know that we just did a song for the soundtrack of said movie? Thought not! Yeah, yeah I know: First a movie about reptiles and now one on amphibians—mutated, teenaged, and trained in the martial arts— but nevertheless, amphibian. There was no way we could say no. You see, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or TMNT, as I like to refer to them) were my favorite when I was growing up. I even had the original comic books (albeit the reissued graphic novels—but nevertheless, I delved deep into the dark side and past of the TMNTs). I always aspired to be an amalgamation of both Michelangelo and Leonardo’s best traits. I wanted to be a fun-loving party-dude, but also have a deep sense of right and wrong and a comprehensive grasp of philosophy. Naturally, of course, I failed at both. But I have been redeemed at last by being able to contribute to my heroes’ soundtrack! Our song is called “Bebop v. Rocksteady,” and it plays over a big fight scene in the movie. After we wrote it, I thought, “hey, this is a great song, but it feels like it’s missing something.” I felt like it still wasn’t as good as “Snakes/Bring it.” Then I had an epiphany! It was missing but one line: “Oh, I’m ready for it!” ** So I added that line, pressed the “#1 Hit Single” button on the console and WHAMMO: the song was complete.

Edit: I looked at their my space and it does say that so it looks like we have our first confirmed song for the soundtrack-'Bebop v. Rocksteady'. hopefully its as good as their snakes on a plane song.

completely left field with this idea but i think they should have the song "second coming" by Juelz Santana in the movie. it is new enough to grab peoples attention and the song itself is a great fit for the rebirth of the turtles and the emphasis being placed on family. :) just my 2 cents

by the way here is a link to the song lyrics. take a look for yourself and see how perfect this song would be...

Yeah, I'm pretty out of my element for music 10 years old or newer... unless they're movie scores. '70s-'80s are my music decades. And the synthesizer/techno sound to a lot of '80s movie scores is a bit cheesy, sure... but it's so much fun to listen to. :D

I'm pretty clueless on recent music, myself. I gave up on FM radio completely probably seven years ago, so I only hear new music on late night talk shows and movie soundtracks. I absolutely LOVE both of the Spider-Man soundtracks, because of both the type of music and how most songs have a loose connection to the story. If I can get anything like that out of the TMNT soundtrack, I'll be happy.

Dang. This is a bunch of alright as long as you don't try to pick it apart. The soundtrack could have turned out 50 times worse. We could have had "oh, I'm ready for it" on every track. :P Really, my fingers are crossed that Cobra Starship didn't actually put that in 'Rocksteady & Bebop'. That was what I disliked most about the Snakes on a Plane track. The lyrics were pretty lame too, but that's off-topic. The music was all there.

I'm really hoping they release a separate score CD eventually.I figure they've got to - Klaus Badelt is a big enough name that they would be stupid not to do that, right? And... Narnia did get both a score soundtrack, as well as an "Inspired by" soundtrack (which I haven't heard, but some say it was actually decent, unlike most "inspired by" albums)

I certainly prefer instrumental music to songs-in-a-movie, anyway. :tgrumble:

Right on sister. Some of the music that they had for the previous soundtracks was ok but when you listen to it now it sounds outdated. Orchestra music (instrumental) never sounds outdated and I guess rock kind of fits into that category as well to a certain degree but it's not my taste. So I think it would be wise to release an instrumental soundtrack as well.

I was hoping it would have some dramatic sounding orchestrated music from animated films such as Batman: Mask of the Phantasm would have. That would definitely clear it up from being labeled as another kiddie movie and make it more strong of a film without question!

I do have a question though.....did Kevin Munroe say at one time that he wanted a main theme music for TMNT, score wise like batman or superman has? Or was that with the original composer? Cause I don't think Mr. Arctic who say the movie said anything about a theme being heard....or is it just me?

Otherwise, these bands don't do it for me. Not one bit i'm sorry to say.

Band called Ram Jam did the original.

I felt "Come On, Come In" was the best tune(and pretty much the only) on it. But yeah, i understand some others may like other tunes. But this one, for TMNT, seems more like a commercial for the movie than an actual soundtrack. Because it seems like, with the exception of Jet and POD, this CD seems aimed at those who are Emo or Pop-Punk. Where are the bands from the comics that are on tombstones? (IE AC/DC and Metallica)

I still think 2 songs that shoulda been on it(atleast the first one of these) is
1. Within Temptation's 'Stand My Ground', and Nightwish's 'Feel For You'. the feel of both of them, woulda fit very nicely to the feel of the movie.

I think it was Marco Beltrami who said he was going for Batman-like theme. I remember reading it on superhero hype a while back. From the man's previous work though, I'm kinda glad he's off the picture. Not saying that his score would have sucked, but so far his only decent score was Hellboy, and even then I thought that movie deserved a Basil Paledorous-style score. On the other hand, the only Badelt score I remember is the Curse of the BlackPearl, which was an awesome score.

I myself would want to hear a powerful score. I love good scores, too bad that scores these days often get filtered out by teeny bopper songs!

Batman themes are great! It's one of the crucial reasons why I enjoy watching Batman so much. The scores in the 90's animated series, the scores by Danny Elfman in Tim Burton's films, Mask of the Phantasm, Return of the Joker, they were all great! I'd really like to see some MotP-like music in the movie somewhere, it would add a great deal of depth to the movie that'll really make it stand out.

I agree, the Batman scores are great..though the scores for Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were disapointing, only because Danny Elfman didn't score them, though they still used his music to advertise those movies. I even thought the Batman Begins score was great, it was kinda psychological, in a way, but it never reached it's true peak, and never delivered a hero theme, though debatably Batman hasnt earned it yet

Your right about the Batman Begins theme. The lack of theme was done intentionally by the composter in an interview. But however I actually enjoyed the Batman Begins soundtrack a hell of alot more than Elfmans'. Its not as iconic but it paces the film incredibly well.

To the person that mentioned Batman: TAS it was composed by Shirley Walker who passed away last year. She mentioned working on a soundtrack or the desire to release one. I hope someone completes that and dedicates it to her memory. It was the best music for an animated series.

I doubt any of them make it in the movie besides the end credits and maybe a fight scene. I mean, what would be the point of bringing in a new composer, if they feature most of this soundtrack. It's like in the same vein as the nightmare before christmas. Inspired music.

I'm fortunate enough to have missed that version of Black Betty I think, heh... And while I don't know who the original did, raphaelprime said in the post above you that's it Ram Jam, so I'll go with that :P

After hearing this TMNT version of Black Betty however, I'd like to take it back that I'm looking forwards to it...that is so the wrong kind of voice to use for that song...what a shame :(

And it somehow really amuses me to hear a song called "I love being a turtle" being a japanese-y sound, lol. At least it sounds good though. The Nightwatcher track sounds awesome however, even for that little bit of it.

As for the other songs, some good, some not so, but I think I'm ok with them overall. It'll sound good in the movie itself ^_^

Atlantic Records has announced the upcoming release of "TMNT - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Music from the Motion Picture." The album will be released for online purchase on March 13th, followed in stores a week later, March 20th. The Warner Bros. Pictures and The Weinstein Company's all-new CGI action-adventure "TMNT" opens in theatres nationwide on March 23rd.

"TMNT - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Music from the Motion Picture" features contributions from a host of recording artists, including new songs written expressly for the film by three of today's most exciting new rock 'n' roll bands. Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording groups Gym Class Heroes and Cobra Starship each contribute TMNT-inspired tracks, while Atlantic's Big City Rock offers up an "animated" rendition of the Lead Belly classic "Black Betty."

Other acts featured on the soundtrack include Jet, Cute Is What We Aim For, Pepper, Meg & Dia, Billy Talent, This Providence, Amber Pacific, and others (track listing attached). The iTunes release of the album will also include an exclusive bonus acoustic version of Amber Pacific's "Save Me From Me," along with video of the band in the studio recording "Fall Back Into My Life." Additionally, "TMNT - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Music from the Motion Picture" includes excerpts from the film's score, composed by Klaus Badelt ("Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," "Constantine").

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles return to the big screen as never before in an all-new CGI action adventure, written and directed by Kevin Munroe.

After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their rat sensei, Splinter (Mako), becomes worried when strange things begin to brew in New York City. Tech-industrialist Maximillian J. Winters (Patrick Stewart) is raising up an army of ancient monsters, and only one super-ninja fighting team can stop them -- Leonardo (James Arnold Taylor), Michelangelo (Mikey Kelley), Donatello (Mitchell Whitfield) and Raphael (Nolan North)! With the help of old allies April O'Neil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Casey Jones (Chris Evans), the Turtles are in for the fight of their lives as they once again must face the mysterious Foot Clan, who have put their own ninja skills behind Winters's endeavors.

Making this new incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles truly cutting-edge, the film was created entirely with state-of-the-art CG animation, giving them a completely new look for the 21st century.

Warner Bros. Pictures and The Weinstein Company present an Imagi Animation Studios Production, "TMNT," featuring the voices of Chris Evans, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mako, Kevin Smith, Patrick Stewart, Ziyi Zhang, and narrated by Laurence Fishburne. Kevin Munroe wrote and directed the film, which is produced by Thomas K. Gray, H. Galen Walker and Paul Wang. The executive producers are Francis Kao, Peter Laird, Gary Richardson and Frederick U. Fierst, with Felix Ip serving as co-producer. The music is by Klaus Badelt.

Opening nationwide on March 23rd, "TMNT" will be distributed domestically and in select international territories by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. The Weinstein Company will distribute the film in other international territories.

From that 30 second preview, the title "I Love Being a Turtle" seems misleading..though this isnt an unusual occurance for scores..the title seems to give off a fun vibe, while that 30 seconds seem to sound something that would play during a splinter speech...but chances are, the preview probably cut off right before the music heightened..but the score did sound promising

I mostly listen to Metal and heavy rock like Otep and My Ruin. But there is no way they would put them on a kids soundtrack lol. Very dissipointed in their artist selection not buying this crap.:x

Check it out... If ya wanna hear the entire song of P.O.D's "Light's Out" (one of the songs on the soundtrack) then here's the music video (courtasy of the G4 thread).

Uh...I don't like that song...it doesn't fit the TMNT at all. :ohwell:

Wow, that album snippet was just....bad.

I want songs that Rock in a turtles movie. And not heavy metal rock, just something that you can tap your foot too, in orchestral song form.

My guess is this album was a condition of the movie studios for giving the casting people permission to cast non famous actors to play the turtles..

I did, and I'm really disappointed that I didn't just wait for the CD. There aren't enough tracks on there that don't make me cringe or roll my eyes. The bonus version that has an extra track from Amber Pacific is the one I got. I'm sure that track is supposed to mirror Raphael's and maybe even Leonardo's resentment issues. I haven't figured out how to view the 'TMNT in-studio footage with Amber Pacific' video track yet, but it's just a message from their manager with a replay of the track they have on both versions. When I see this thing finally, it better be mostly clips from the movie, or I'll be pissed. Also, I don't see how Cobra Starship could have reasonably called that track 'Rocksteady v. Bebop'. Did they provide a last-minute substitute, or were they joking with us from the start? Either way, 'Awww Dip' is a decent track though it seems to have no TMNT-ification to it whatsoever.

Hi guys, newbie here

I had a question: Does anyone know if the music in the 1 min G4 clip is in the actual film and what the artist/ssong name is ?

Also, does anyone know if the music in anoy of the commericals is actually in the film or just made for the ads?

Thanks

The song in the G4 clip is "Light's Out" by P.O.D. (IIRC) and I'm quite sure it's the same in the movie.

The music from the trailers is not in the movie and I think the same is true of the TV commercials.. I don't think they've slipped any actually music into them, but I'm not 100% certain.

The soundtrack to the Courtyard Battle (the 1 min G4 clip) is 'Lights Out (Chris Vrenna Remix)" by P.O.D. which is in the film and on the CD, but I can't tell you about the other stuff. It was determined that the score in the earliest trailers were actually some of that music made specifically for movie trailers that may never get released in any form at all.

From watching the IGN clips i can add to that for ya, Jet's "Rip It Up" is in the movie(Mikey skating through the sewers) and the cover of "Black Betty" during the Nightwatcher Vs Jersey Devil scene.

And after watching the NWvsJD scene a few times, i can tell ya too, they coulda just went with either Spiderbait or Ram Jam's versions just as good without having to record yet another version of it.

I am amazed to know that was a Lead Belly tune. The soundtrack press release on today's update to NinjaTurtles.com says so. But, whoever said it before was right. That singer didn't have a good voice for the song. It's like if Freddy Prinze Jr. tried to sing it. O_o Scary, huh?

I was too, since im not 100% sure who Lead Belly is. The oldest version of the song i know is Ram Jam's and that one came out in the 80's i believe. I think there was a couple people who said the cover on the soundtrack sucked and i believe i was one.

I've actually had it since last week. Bought it at iTunes for $15. Here's what I think of it now:

- SHELL SHOCK performed by GYM CLASS HEROES
Not what I'd choose for the soundtrack to a Turtles movie because it serves as a gateway to musicians with more vulgar and hateful lyrics. And, that's the only thing I thought of it the first several times I listened to it. Now, I'm digging it. It may sound an awful lot like some gangsta rap, but it's got an energizing beat to it. Like most of the soundtrack, it's best as background music. I'm sure that's why they put it in the background of the movie. ^_^

- RIP IT UP by JET
Pretty cool skater track. I can ignore the fact that they said "spread your legs for the silver screen" on the soundtrack to a PG movie. But, it's still funny. Good thing it's not a sing-along though. I like this track. But, I'll have to skip it in the presence of my niece who sings along with everything.

- THERE'S A CLASS FOR THIS by CUTE IS WHAT WE AIM FOR
My poor ears! That's some annoying, bland, whiny pop-punk junk. I've given it plenty of opportunity, but there's no hope of it growing on me. So, I'll drop everything to skip this track. There's really nothing else to say about it.

- AWWW DIP by COBRA STARSHIP
Better than the Snakes On A Plane track. It has the same sense of whimsy and unconventionality, but without the few annoying parts. But, wasn't this originally supposed to be a Turtle-shaded track? It was previously titled 'Bebop v. Rocksteady' or vice versa, so... Why do I detect absolutely no Turtle-theme now? Weird... Anyway, it's a favorite track of mine from the album.

- ROSES by MEG & DIA
GOBO LOVES CHICK ROCK!! ^_^ As biased as that sounded, I'm still picky. This track is way more interesting than anything I have heard from Evanescence. Also less dramatic. This is among my favorites on the album as well.

- BRING ME ALONG by PEPPER
Please... I just ate. I've never liked Pepper (though I don't know where they've been for the past decade. They were one-hit wonders when I graduated (though I couldn't stand their one hit), and this is the first I've heard of them since. The song is painfully dull (a step up from the painfully lame one hit they had in the '90s), but it sounds kinda similar to a Sugar Ray or Sublime track. Sorry to any Sugar Ray or Sublime fans, but that's the nearest parallel I could come up with. :embarass:

- FALL BACK INTO MY LIFE by AMBER PACIFIC
I forget where I heard this one before, but it's great. Not something I'd go out of my way to listen to, but it's rather enjoyable. It's more pop-punk, this time from the featured artist of the soundtrack, but not at all annoying. It's fairly energetic, and up-tempo. It's kinda' reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World.

- RED FLAG by BILLY TALENT
Oi! That's some full-blooded punk rock there. Me likey. ^_^ Makes me think of The Ramones even though I'm only vaguely familliar with them. This is probably the most angsty end of punk rock here though. So, brace yourselves. :D

- WALKING ON WATER by THIS PROVIDENCE
I liked this track for the most part. It started with a really awesome riff, but it gets a bit whiny in the vocals. The chorus is the least appealing part of the song. But, I think the awesome riff pretty well balances it out. Hardly a favorite of mine, it's pretty good if you don't dwell on the underlying tone of whininess.

- YOUTH LIKE TIGERS by EVER WE FALL
Eww... More whiny music. :( It has a victorious tone to it, so if you can stomach emo...

- LIGHTS OUT by P.O.D. (Chris Vrenna Mix)
I actually look forward to the P.O.D. track to cycle back through while I'm listening to the soundtrack. It may not be the right sound for a Turtles movie, but the remix on the soundtrack is leaps and bounds more catchy than the original. Chris Vrenna did an awesome job of validating P.O.D.'s tough guy act. Chris Vrenna is a miracle-worker!

- BLACK BETTY by BIG ROCK CITY
The instrumental is almost identical to the Ramjam version (the one that played in Nintendo's earliest commercials for the DS). That's a good thing. But, the vocals just don't fit. It sounds like we have someone who never sang a rock song before doing the honors. He didn't do a bad job, but his voice had no bite to it. Oh well. This is a decent track for people who aren't already familliar with Black Betty or don't pay close attention to their music.

- I LOVE BEING A TURTLE by KLAUS BADELT
Didn't seem like it was appropriately titled because it just didn't sound very turtley. It really seemed like an overview of relatively different themes created for the movie. When I'm in the mood to listen to score music, I'm glad I have this. It's worth the entire album for anyone who likes score music.

- NIGHTWATCHER by KLAUS BADELT
This one is actually more like one single, continuous theme. It starts and ends with the same melody. Almost a Peter Gunn/Americana thing. It's probably the comparitive lack of variety in this track that makes me like the other score track better. But, this one is still quite good.

AVAILABLE ONLY ON THE $13.99 iTUNES BONUS CONTENT VERSION:
- SAVE ME FROM ME (ACOUSTIC) by AMBER PACIFIC
Awesome! When I first heard it, I thought it was to mirror the mood between Raph & Leo (and, it would do so perfectly), but this is a song Amber Pacific had already released on an album. It wasn't until I read the press release that I even noticed it was entirely acoustic. That adds something to it, I think. Anyhow, it's a bit sappy, but pretty damn fitting for the movie. It gets my approval, no problem.

- TMNT IN-STUDIO FOOTAGE WITH AMBER PACIFIC
Kinda lame. This is video content, obviously. However, it has nothing to do with TMNT other than being packaged with this soundtrack. It's just Amber Pacific's manager giving a progress report for a few seconds, followed by a 'recording of' video for Fall Back Into My Life. Nothing special unless you're a big fan of AP.

My overall opinion about this soundtrack is that I usually find it hard to associate with the Turtles at all. I guess that's one reason people have been griping about it. My one gripe about this being the soundtrack is that it seems to overemphasize the idea that they are just your typical, yuppie teens. Being that they aren't allowed to be social, that makes little sense from a psychological standpoint. Anyway, I consider this a worthy buy. Now, go buy it! ^_^

I wish there was a seperate score CD :( I love scores so much (good ones, at least) At lot of the score, that I heard form the clips , I liked.

The funny thing was, even though I'm only interested in 'Black Betty' and the two score tracks and even though all the other music on the cd makes me sick to my stomach from it's horrendousness, I was still almost tempted to by the CD today at Best Buy, just for the sheer fact that it was Turtles..

..but I got the game instead (along with Rocky Balboa, the whole reason I was there)..I almost bought the original series season 4 (or is it 5, I cant remember), but I figured Id buy it later, but I was stunned becauser they finally starting releasing them in seasons not volumes and that finally they have some special features this time around.

i'm not sure about the "i love being a turtle" song, i just noticed in either the featurette or one of the trailers that the music came from part of "Nightwatcher"'s score song on the soundtrack. I've heard that the trailer score from Spiderman3 was used in a TMNT trailer, but i haven't watched the Spiderman 3 trailer(s) for awhile.

I believe Kevin Munroe himself had said that this film didn't have any one particular theme. Of all the scoring I heard in the film, It was all represented on the CD. So, where should they come up with more to fill a CD? But, if you asked me (an idea that I'm sure never crossed your minds), if you needed to pick out something to call an official theme, it would be somewhere in the Nightwatcher track. That got the most replays in the film.

I like the Black Betty one, as that was my personal favorite scene in the movie. That song mentions the word Rocksteady. As that just a cute little nod to the old toon fans that was thrown in when they chose the song, or just coincidence?
