View Full Version : TMNT Ep Discussion "Bad Blood"

No idea what this is about but there ya go...This ep airs Dec 2nd.

Bad Blood could mean several things... perhaps the Dark Turtles or another descendent of somebody from the past. Won't really know till the info is released. But nice to know that they're airing eps during the winter.

So 4kids is apparently blowing through all 13 episodes before the end of the year.

That means we have to go from January through September with no new episodes. That's 8 friggin months of repeats.

Why in the world did 4kids split Fast Foward into two seasons instead of airing them altogether like they were supposed to? Do they honestly think an 8 month break of no new episodes will HELP this series?

This is going to send TMNT's already low ratings to the negative numbers.

They just need to get DONE with Fast Forward already so that they can show more TMNT 2K3....that is why the ratings suck...and you know why else the ratings suck...?

Because 4Kids sucks @$$ through a straw.

I thought the reason they pulled this FF stuff was because ratings where not up to par? That the network thought that by kiddifying the show that it would pull more of its target audiance.

I still think it would be unlikely for them not to premiere anything new when the movie hits... But, I could see someone making a deal to keep the market clear for only movie-related merchandise at that time. But, that would concern me in that it would suggest a lack of confidence in the film's merit. :blanksta: I'm still hoping for The Lost Season before next Fall.

...because I dare to dream.

EDIT: Just realized, but this ep title is a good sign. Remember Bishop's debut ep? Until it aired, they were calling it "The New Guard". Since it was actually "New Blood", it is my guess that some self-righteous airhead thought that the word 'blood' was too much for kids. So, here FF is, and they're not trying to PC it to death? That's odd, to say the least.

Actually the ratings for FF are pretty much the same or only slightly less than Seasons 1-4. This show has ALWAYS had poor ratings.

What I'm concerned about is an 8 month gap with no new episodes would probably kill interest in the show entirely. It's a terrible business tactic.

Maybe they've decided to air The Lost Season after all and pushed back Fast Forward's second half..? And maybe if the ratings are good enough for it, they'll consider concluding the FF story and returning them home. :D

Why don't they scratch this whole Saturday mornings thing and place the Turtles on in primetime along with The Simpsons? Then they can beef up the fight scenes and not have to worry about sissy parents protests against the violence!

Because the show is to adult for kids, and not adult enough for adults.

The show is more for Teens and all Teens watch are crap reality shows on MTV and Fox.

Your statement makes absolutely no sense at all. Everyone I know who likes the Turtles and appreciates them are the adults, in their twenties and thirties mostly. But they are being severly shafted by the cartoon being "marketed" towards kids.

I think if they were to revamp the show and incorporate it in a more adult setting at a more adult time, the show would have unlimited possibilities.

But at the moment, it's severely hindered. The only people that are up in the weekend mornings are the little kids. Teenagers and adults are mostly sleeping in from staying up all night partying or watching "late night tv". And I find the Turtle story arcs more befitting for the older mind sets.

This is just my opinion, and I dont see why not test the franchise on the more adult scale. I think one of the reasons why the motion picture movie did so well was because it was not dumbed down for the kids. Why wouldn't the same scenario work for an animated version?

Sorry, Warhorse. I have to ask, what makes you think an action 'toon with family tone would survive in Primetime? That's Crudeadulthumortime. It's existence would either go unnoticed or would be assimilated into the Crudeadulthumortime mold. Isn't that one of the complaints about FF, because it has too many retarded jokes?

Murphy confirmed in another thread that the 26 episodes of Fast Forward have been split into two 13 episode seasons. With episodes 1-13 (Season 5) airing now and episodes 14-26 (Season 6) airing next Fall. At least that's the current schedule.

Since Lost Season isn't on the DVD schedule anymore I am wondering if they plan to air that next Spring around the time of the movie, but I'm not holding my breath.

Murphy also said that it's possible Ninja Tribunal could be aired as Season 7 in 2008 (assuming the TMNT return home at the end of Season 6) since when they return from the future the TMNT could be dropped at any point in time.

That's what it's like for us in the UK. They kept airing the same S4 episodes over and over for months, then eventually air a few new episodes, repeat for months, air a few more new episodes, repeat for months ect.

Must admit I gave up with the UK airings when the Season 4 set came out.

Just checked Radio Times and they're listing it as weekend mornings, with the latest listed being "Wing and a Prayer" on Dec 2nd. How far did the show make it in the end? Did CITV ever reach "Ninja Tribunal"?

I don't understand why people are putting me down because I just would like to see TMNT be placed in a more mature time scale. And I don't mean of a South Park venue. Maybe the new style of an action, in depth animated feature would be one "shell" of a shock to the industry by placing the toon on, say, 8:00 pm on a Friday night. It will be different tone of pace from the usual crude humor, and maybe a lot of people will like this change.

Why don't they take some of the story arcs from the first season of the 2003 series and place them on in the evenings, say for the summer. Just to see how things do? Can't do any worse than some of the shows that have managed to stay afloat for the last couple of years.

I just don't see the problem with trying. You'll never know how something will do if you dont try. And what didn't work for one thing certaintly doesn't mean that will be the same outcome for everything.

Personally I think it's happening because the TMNT are not quite yet in a place that they as a series can be taken seriously like say batman or superman. Perhaps they never will be as much of a fan of the 80's toon and Archie fan as well I believe these things have allot to do with the fact that people stopped taking the Turtles seriously.
It's the same thing that happened to Jim Henson he was an adult entertainer then he did Sesame Street as a project which many people don't even know that he was just helping with the show it's not even really his sure he did the puppet skits and all but some one else was behind the entire show.
His Muppet Show, The Land Of Gorch on SNL, The Labryth, The Dark Crystal, The Jim Henson Hour, as well as The Story Teller are not taken seriously because of the fad that Sesame Street Became. Now finally after all of these years of Jim's passing Brian his son is finally trying to bring back the name of the true Henson Studios and help regain the credit that it once had as a company.
It takes allot of work and if Peter Laird really wanted to do it he would the 2k3 series came very close to what it could be but sadly people still look at the turtles as a kids property. We can all say what we want but when it comes down to it in the morning when we all wake up he's the only one in charge of the Turtles and he's the only one who's got the power to make a difference. Sure we all can write to people and tell them oh this or that about ?Mirage and the 2k3 cartoon but it's honestly not going to make a difference as much as the owner of the property will make.
A good idea would be to start witting letters to Peter with ideas of what he perhaps should do as his next move.
I wasn't trying to insult you, Warhorse. I wish it could work that way myself. But, since the show would need to change hands to a group that handles Primetime programming, it would quickly transformed into something less favorable than what we have now.

We get crap because the mindset of the average person is that TMNT is for kiddies, not for adults. Ya got the original series to thank for that.
The average adult (the typical non fan) will watch silly dramas instead of forgetting real life for 30 minutes as watch a fun, action packed show about 4 turtle mutants and their fight to survive.
TMNTFF is killing the series and there won't be jack $#!+ after this psuedo season 6. Cutting the season into 5 and 6, is a pile of hot steamy poo. I used to look forward into watching TMNT every saturday when we had REAL stories with lots of character development, now after a long week of sitting in traffic I dont get anything to look forward to. It was just a nice little treat to wake up to on the weekends.

Back on topic...

I think Bad Blood will be about the dark turtles and those eggs...which IMO Sishakabobo is a really lame looking character. BIG body TEENY head.

Just saw it. I missed last week's and heard it was really good. This one didn't disappoint. We saw the Dark Turtles--for now, a decent enemy. Splinter is in top form this time around and with Serling nonetheless and in a bar fight...he went to jail! Cody came in handy this time. Cody reminds me of Keno in TMNT II as he wants to help the guys but isn't "allowed" by Splinter. The only difference being that Splinter let him help as Keno just ran off. Overall, not a bad episode. As far as next week is concerned "The Journal" just seems like a filler episode though Splinter's warning about reading it messing a lot of things up seems interesting, I'm not sure if it really has anything to offer.

UGH...Cody's' little snothead, stuck up behavior....can I kill him? Someone say I can kill him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I"m a snot wad...i rescued the turtles and im a ninja kid....*STABS*....

These Dark turtles...they say they're "brothers"...being created off the guy's DNA...don't that make 'em ...in a way...their ...*shudders*....offspring?

*DIES*

Shishkababo wants to fool with Time & Space? Nah..the Doctor won't let him....I'd die laughing if, as a gag, you see a TARDIS materialise behind him.

That was an okay ep...it would be fine if that Cody wasn't so damn prominant

This episode kind of reminded me of the episode of Metalhead because it was programmed with the turtles' personalities. Except in this case, it was a more futuristic version. I felt that it was kind of funny that the clones had the same voices as the original versions.

There's no doubt in my mind that Dark Leo was modeled at least a bit after our old pal Slash. In the usual homage sense.

I liked this episode. Since Fast Forward was annouced to include evil turtles I've been waiting for them to show up and I really think they delivered.

If they really are going to wait until Fall to show the rest (apparently all 13 of this season is heading to DVD in a box set according to another thread). Maybe they'll play reruns of previous seasons to ramp up for the new movie. Or better yet... they could play Ninja Tribunal (I doubt it).

But if you want TMNT in prime time. There's only one place to do it. Toonami. They could put it between The Batman and Naruto at 8:30PM making both a NA comic hero hour 8-9PM and a ninja hour 8:30-9:30PM. And IMO that'd be the ideal slot for the Ninja Tribunal. I thought CN got rid of TMNT but it's still listed on their show page even though it was recently overhauled so I assume they can still play it. It's time to send letters.

I don't get you people, first you whine that Cody was useless, and then when he's actually helpful you guys whine some more. And at least he knows when to stay out of the way of the real fighters; in the last scuffle he hung back and didn't even try fighting with the Dark Turtles.

Speaking of fighting, Serling actually did pretty good in that bar fight, didn't he? Yes, Splinter helped, but now we know the big robot can hold his own in a battle too.

The thing that was interesting at the end was Sho'kanabo asking Darius about how the Turtles got to the future. Man, everybody wants access to time travel in this show . . . wonder who'll actually get it first, though?

I havent been watching many of the recent episodes, but you can definitley tell the show is improving. Leo seemed a lot more in character today which I liked. As for the Dark turtles...hmmm i guess i expected them to be a little more intimidating but then again i have to remember this isnt 2k3 anymore. They were still pretty cool and i have a lot of hope for them in future episodes( I think I liked Leo's clone best) It kinda seemed like a hint to the fans that next time the dark turtles are back they might be a little more dangerous, when Dunn mentioned to Sho'kanbo(?) that he still beleived they had potential.

Raph's Girl
12-02-2006, 12:16 PM
Pretty good ep. It was definatly dark and Raph's put down's at his clone were pretty funny (and rather dark)

I noticed an error while they were fighting tho. Dark Mike was fighting Mikey but when he picked him up it was
Leo!

Cody's really coming into his own. His wrist thing was definatly a convienent plot device tho. It appeared to be
able to do everything. :P Plus he's now questioning his Uncle's motives! Yay!

The Dark Turtles are definatly gonna become interesting re-acurring villians. Especially since they're on the O'Neil-Tech Payroll. *L*

And it looks like that it may be Sho'Kanobo who helps the turtles get back to the past since HE's now interested in time travel. :P

Now for a couple questions:
1: Were they fighting in the old lair?

"I'll show you oopsie!" - Raph

How can you actually claim that when you hav'nt seen recent episodes? That's called selective bias.

I thought this episode was very good. There was a nice balalnce of humor and action, which made it enjoyable. I felt since I didn't see last week's episode, I didn't see the importance of the set up for this one...:???:

Anyways, it was awesome finally seeing the Dark Turtles. They were more than worth the wait IMHO. I was glad to see how they fought against the Turtles -- just to see if the Turtles could beat 'em, and they did, so that's great.

I thought the bar fight deal was cool...sorta reminded me of the one in Star Wars when Dr. Evazan picks a fight with Luke. :o Too bad Splinter and Serling got arrested; I think Biggles'll believe anything, even if someone is blamed for committing a crime.

I liked Cody's character development in this one -- he's becoming more a ninja and less of a techno geek, which is something I agree with. Looks like the writers know what they're doing for Cody and his ninja training.

So, I'm giving this episode four Dark Turtle fights out of five. It felt like it was above average for me, so that's what the score says. I'm really looking forward to next week's episode -- looks like it'll be pretty good.

It's called having double standards. Whine about it when he helps out and makes himself useful. Then whine again about him being the 1987 April when he's in trouble and needs help.

It was a pretty fun episode. I thought Mikey's shell resembled the G3 Gamera's shell. Anyone have a picture of the evil Mikey for comparison?

Dang straight. Some people just overgeneralize any child character being portrayed as a worthwhile protagonist as some form of Scrappy-Doo 'kids are sooooo much better than adults' sort of BS.
I noticed an error while they were fighting tho. Dark Mike was fighting Mikey but when he picked him up it was

Um, either you blinked or I imagined the bit where Dark Leo knocked Leo into Dark Mikey's way, and Dark Mikey was all like, "What the shell, yo? Don't throw your trash at me while I be scrappin' wit muh doppleganger".
wait so how do Darius and Shoko'obo know one another am I missing something?
It seemed like a first-time correspondence when they talked at the beginning of the ep. Since Dunn is such a high-profile snob, Sh'Okanabo contacted him. The only relevant question that they left unanswered was how Sh'O knew that Dunn wanted the turtles out of the picture. I guess they're going with the 'bad-guys can smell their own' defense on this one.
I'm surprised Darius actually had a backup plan to make himself look like he's innocent if the plan fails.
The need was felt to not make a liar out of Splinter in as much as he called Dunn a "master of deception". To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised as well. This is evidence that the right influence has returned to guide the direction of the show. As long as I can easily suspend disbelief (like this), I can fully enjoy the ep.

All in all, I liked this ep a lot. It's still not perfect, but I still appreciate it way more than the earliest >> eps (thanks to Jester for the awesome way of spelling 'Farce Forward' ^_^ ). The insults involving 'sewage and kitty-litter milkshakes' and eating 'used baby diapers' seemed rather gross and juvenile. I certainly wouldn't have missed it if it hadn't been included. But, I understand how it helped attract more children's attentions. Since it had a reasonable purpose, I'll gladly just pretend it didn't happen. ;) But, explaining away plot-holes and tying up loose ends is a good way for this 'sub-brand' to stop causing the fans grief. It works for me... :)

EDIT: Two questions have been answered since I started composing my post, so I just left them in for the possibility that they might add any useful details.

did the Dark Turtles have the same Voice actors as the regular turtles?
Whoops. I missed this one. They did indeed have the same voice actors.

The episode reminded me of an old school TMNT episode where they fought they're copies.

I don't know or remenber what the name of that episode was. But I'm sure someone on this forum will point it out to me.

I like how they showed the turtle's old lair which is still a big wreck from what happened back in Season 4.

This episode was good but close to average. I do like Darius's role as evil uncle from the very start of FF.

I did'nt personally enjoy it, and I hav'nt been for weeks, but it's nice to see you're quite optimistic and appreciative about the positive feedback the show is getting in some circles, we'll see how far it can go in the next few weeks as usual. I am always objective enough to give anything a second chance...

Agreed in fact I think a show needs a new chance every season. After all sometimes it takes four seasons for a show to be consistantly good (Looks at The Batman)

I thought season two was pretty good also, then they shook it up too much to bring in Batgirl and it got toned down again, now much like the second season the team are "used" to working with their new format and are giving us this kind of quality.

It also helps when your lead producer is working on other things...

I will say I was a little disappointed for 3 reasons:

1) The episode should have been called "The Turtles fight evil clones briefly, while Cody fights a giant Frog." They really should have had more of the Turtles battling the clones, and in a more dramatic way.

2) I REALLY wanted Shokken whazza whatever to be Darius. I really wanted them to have a connection before hand. That kinda kills what I had thought up.

3) I was hoping that since the Dark Turtles were programmed with the thoughts of their counterparts, they would fight other turtles instead of each fighting his own doppleganger. I.e. Mikey fighting Dark Raph.

However, I did notice ONE very important aspect...

Shokkanabo-bo-bo must have some connection to Shredder. Not just the Shredder like arm gauntlets, but notice what he called the turtles when he was talking to Darius.

"Thorns in your side"

Now, 2 or 3 years ago I posted some thread about how Shredder uses this term numerous times, to the point of a catchphrase. Seeing as how Shokkan'abo said it, there must really be some connection there.

No offense dude but I think "thorns in my side" is just one of those standard villian phrases. Like I shall have revenge or something.

Am I the only one who thinks the Dark Turtles are to big? If they were say all the same size as Dark Mike I'd be happy but I don't like their giant sizes compared to the real turtles.

And finally I've seen the episode too.

Good points:

Cody was actually likable and didn't get on my nerves, except once for saying "It's Ninja Time!"

Splinter and Seerlings bar brawl was fun and Splinter actually did stuff this time around.

We actually saw Cody's Ninja training.

The Dark Turtles themselves were interesting, especially Dark Mikey and Dark Leo. Dark Don was okay too.

Bad points:

Cody's little gadgets. How was that Ninja stealth? Anybody can be a Ninja if they have a gizmo for any possible situation. Cody doing stuff without them would have been much better. All these deus ex machinas are just too much.

The fight against the Dark Turtles was rather anti-climatic and boring. The guys lost the first fight too easily, while winning the second one too easily. I don't want to believe that their weapons would make such a big difference, they have fought well without their weapons before ("Spooooons!"). Dark Raph was also very dull compared to the other three.

Raph's comments about the Dark Turtles weren't funny at all, just gross.

Overall an okay episode, but nothing to get excited about, IMHO.

NEver say never. After all, he exclusively used that phrase in the series. But then again, I was wrong about the Darius being Shokkan'abo.

Anyone else think the "Cute and fluffy Ninja Ducklings" was a direct stab at the crappy TMNT ripoff comics that flooded the market in the mid 80's?

I also think it's just things villians say.
And not to sure about that last one but very well could be.:)

Damn straight... It might not have been the original intention to draw attention to the TMNT knock-offs, but that's undeniably what it ended up being.
