View Full Version : 4kids is clearly up to something with the Lost Season.

Okay....4kids is obviously trying to confuse us all with what they want to do.

First off, they retool TMNT into this kid-friendly "spin-off" called Fast Forward. Bascially ignoring the foundations they set in stone in the season 4 finale 'Ninja Tribunal'.

Next, they actually reveal that animation and work has been done on the Lost Season episodes and will be completed. A DVD set of the episodes is announced. They end up putting some of the episodes On Demand. Turtles fans rejoice! 2k3 isn't dead...or is it?

Then, they stop putting the Lost Season episodes On Demand. The DVD set is officially postponed in the US to get ready for the Fast Forward release. So is that "postponed" or "cancelled"? Well, actually it's coming in March....in Austraila and New Zealand. Oh no! Will 4kids actually finish the Lost Season episodes for us to see?

Then, we hear that the first season of Fast Forward get's broken into two parts. (The first half just finished airing.) The DVD set is forthcoming. What's going on?

Well, 'The Journal' comes along and shakes EVERYTHING up. With some things that actually tie into the Lost Season episodes we already seen but not everyone has! (Remember, the Lost Season episodes were not aired like any other TMNT 2k3 episodes were. So not everyone saw them.) My point is that if they were actually going to complete can the Ninja Tribunal episodes, then why would they show stuff that obviously take place afterwards in an episode of Fast Forward?

My theory is this. And their are probably a few who share this. Since season one of Fast Forward got hacked into two pieces, perhaps 4kids WILL air all the Lost Season episodes sometime early next year. It adds up! This episode gives that theory more juice than ever before! I mean, just add up the math! The probability just skyrocketed! Maybe we don't have to wait for March to import after all. Could the Lost Season be heading our way starting in January? This episode clearly points us into that distinctive direction.

Well when they made the 100th episode the Don Monster one and not Tales Of Yoshi like it was supposed to be I figured they had their head up their asses. The the order of DVD episodes suggests so as well.

But, all the anti-4Kids sentiments will only make them less willing to cooperate with the fans. Don't you think?

I'm still amazed that people think 4kids won't want to make money off the Lost season.

Do you know how much money they spent on the animation, scripts and editing on those 12 episodes? Why in the world would they waste that money if they didn't want to sell them?

They'll be released eventually on a DVD boxset, (along with the finale of Season 4 since that's not on DVD yet), or aired on TV, or both.

Leo Warrior Turtle, I had thought of that too, since it would be a waste to have made the episodes and not market it to the 'States in some way, but 4Kids is very unpredictable.

I really wish they hadn't named their company "4Kids". That name really aggravates me-- and no, it's not because I'm a so-called adult. [/random complaint]

Nah, companies often pay attention to forums, but they tend not to look too far past their own. If ninjaturtles.com had its own forums, they'd look at that too. The reason they pay more attention these days? In addition to market research, journalists look at forums, and sometimes quote them in their articles.

They are not trying to confuse us, their plate is full with a number of other things right now (other shows, Fast Forward and the movie to start...) and these episodes were written before the decision to pull the "Lost Season" was made final.

It will not be out in January. It will get released one way or another though.

I think there is a much larger issue at hand here however:

They should re-release TMNT cereal. Picking out all the marshmellows in a box of lucky charms and mixing them with chex is not the same (and a hassle).

Also ninja turtle pies. DELICIOUS!

If they do end up using the Lost Season the show is over. It'll be a free way to milk the franchise for 6 to 8 months. They probably won't pay for further production of the series.

It's for the best I guess...after a season of pastel colors and censorship, there's no way they'd be allowed go back to the way things were.

As for 4Kids, they've made it clear from the other shows they've ruined that they only care about the bottom line. If you want to save the show, write to Peter Laird and tell him the show is worth fighting for! Also, make sure the movie succeeds...show 4Kids this is a profitable franchise when done right!

MrPliggins

It's true they care about the bottom line. It's a pretty simple idea really. New episodes aren't being produced at the moment. They aren't ready to produce new episodes because they are still unsure whether they want to cancel or not.
Hey wait- they can split the FF season...that'll give 'em another year to decide...or wait- they can cancel the release of TLS... which they could use if they need even more time to decide. Yeah, good idea...

Chris

I think that Leonardo_Warrior_Turtle is right.

I've said it before but I think 4Kids could have split Fast Forward and pulled Lost Season from DVD so they can air the LS episodes next year to coincide with the new movie.

If they don't do this then there will be a LOT of repeats between now and the start of Season 6/FF Season 2.

I'm thinking something like this;
Sept-Dec 06 - FF Season 1
Feb 07 - FF Season 1 DVD
Mar 07 - TMNT Movie
Mar-Apr 07 - Lost Season
Sept 07 - Lost Season DVD (or earlier or later depending on when Movie DVD released)
Sept-Dec 07 - FF Season 2
Feb 08 - FF Season 2 DVD

Alright, I've been saying before that the 2k3 series can be saved from Fast Forward. I still stand by that statement, though the looks of it continuing are slipping away fast.

It's no secret the 4kids is doing it's best to milk TMNT as much as they can before throwing it in the dirt and doing what ever they can to it to make it stink. This, in my opininon, is kind of like the "The Next Mutation", only without a female turtle (it's Cody this time) and it's not live action. 4kids KNOWS that Fast Forward isn't that good. It KNOWS that Fast Forward can never bring itself up to the standards that the 2k3 series has set. There for, they are trying to get the kids to eat up as much Fast Forward as possible before letting the Lost Season out. I mean, most kids probably don't know that there is a Lost Season out there. All they know is that there is a new show with turtles out, and they are in the future. No ifs or buts, they just accept it.

We already have had the DVD issue cleared up by our dear friend Murphy. It's because the company that publishs the DVDs (Magna Pacific) is an Australian company. Therefore, Australia and New Zealand are getting the Lost Season before America. I guess it's "payback", since America gets the series DVDs before Australia and New Zealand.

I think the only thing we can do is stop complaining about it. 4kids has been up to something ever since the mix up of the episodes on the DVDs. It was an early warning...

It's also a possibility that the Lost Season is being with held from the US because of the new movie. Here in Australia and New Zealand, the last I've heard of the release of the Lost Season, we were getting it before the release of the movie. When the US gets it, it's going to be AFTER the movie release. It's all to do with marketing. Well, all we can do is sit back and see what the future holds *sighs*

I personally don't mind TMNT:FF. The storyline is picking up, and with multiple arcs. Now the only way I WILL have a problem with FF is if they don't release TLS. My 4 year old son keeps asking me when he's going to get to see the Mystic Fury Turtles in a episode, I told him with the release of TLS. That was before 4Kids decided to act stupid. One thing to make me hella mad, is to dissapoint my 4 year old son. If 4Kids manages to do that, they should change their name to 4Business and get the hell outta dodge, because the 4Kids name is very hypocritical.

My sons favorite Turtle variants are the Mystic Turtles. Their is simply no excuse 4Kids.

That just plain sucks. I would be devistated if I was in you sons possition. That reminds me of when I first moved to live with my dad. I was 4, and a big fan of TMNT. One of my favorite movies is when I was 4 and me and my dad were leaving the park and he says "let's rent The Secret of the Ooze!" "What's that?" "It's the Ninja Turtles!"

I don't think 4kids understands that TMNT was meant to be dark and violent. Maybe they need to read the original comic books. And I don't think they understand that there are older audiences out there that appreciates the mature approach.

Yes. If there ever is going to be series as cool as the comics, chances are it won't come from 4Kids. Maybe they should make one for HBO, Showtime, or another cool cable station that can handle that maturity.

Or maybe the TMNT should be in PrimeTime!!:P

cartoon network doesnt suck that bad right now, they got some good shows on [adultswim] although they also have some pretty gay ones like the squidbillies and 12 oz. mouse, but i guess other than that i don't watch it that much...there isn't much else option for channel, someone else mentioned the CW, but who knows, as long as there is some form of tmnt, it keeps this site/forums alive:)

Ppfft, 12 Oz Mouse has more brain cells than almost anything else on AS (with the exception of AQTF and Birdman, whenever there not absent)

(Plays "F off...to you, so take a hint" Guitar riff, simply the best thing that Network has EVER heard)

And the term "gay" went out years ago in the realm of common sense.

As for other series on CN worth a lick, there's Codename: Kids Next Door, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Ben 10, not that bad of a list for a Network vastly becoming underrated again.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the main reason i even watch cartoon network, Family Guy (and birdman is pretty good, but not on very much) is also on there as well as Futurama, and how do u expect the term "gay" to be out, lol i'm in frickin Nebraska, give me a break.....and the reason i don't like 12 oz. mouse is because i can't stand the animation, it kinda freaks me out, not gonna lie, each to his own

I put my 2 cents in and wrote a nice, polite letter to 4Kids requesting the release of the Lost Season on DVD (for all the good it will do), but at least I've done what little I can to make my voice heard.

As for Fast Forward, I'm still watching, but more out of habit than anything else. The enthusiasm that used to wake me up on Saturday morning for the best show since Beast Wars is completely gone now. Now I just record TMNT and get around to watching it whenever. I have no plans to get the Fast Forward DVDs.

TMNT 2k3 was on during my college years. I would wake up early every Saturday so I could run down to the dorm's lounge to pop in a VHS tape to tape it. It was a weekly ritual. Pretty much did it all throughout college. When I get my TV card on my computer, it became pretty much my only thing I captured. (Besides stuff on VHS tapes through my VCR.) Now, I don't have that same urge to get up to watch it. FF's appeal to me is meh compared to the greatness that was 2k3. If 4kids plans to air the Lost Season here soon, that excitement will come back...but for only 12 weeks.

i agree with ya, ninja turtles (atleast the last couple of season before fastforward) were during my first couple years at college....and i would wake up every morning like i was a little kid again to watch cartoons on saturday morning, did this during highschool too, never missed a saturday except for days where i had track meets and so i had to tape them

but now that fast forward is on, i have no drive or want to wake up and watch them, i just watch them if i happen to be awake (or later down the road)....it's just not the same:( i just want to thank for kids for killing my joy:lol:

And for those who are as ticked at 4Kids for what they're doing to our guys, maybe they need to go back to being the FoxBox instead. They did better in terms of the way that they treated the series when they were still under THAT name. But that's just MY humble opinion.

I thought Laird sprung the bill for TLS because 4Kids wouldn't

WRONG!

The show is paid for by a number of partners including Mirage, Playmates, and 4kids. Odds are that Playmates felt that the tribunal season wouldn't make great toys.

If 4kids were to release the lost season right now it would be potentially damaging to the marketing of Fast Forward and the new movie. Just like how Nintendo doesn't release a Zelda game the same day as a Mario game, they'de be trying to push to much at once instead of focusing attention and reaping the maximum reward.

There was a push for Fast Forward and those are the toys you see on shelves, now they are being phased out by the movie toys and the movie will be pushed, then that will die down and Fast Forward will come back.

If I was Peter Laird would I think I could make more money off the movie or from the "Lost Season" of the TV show?

The Lost Season probably won't be released in full (officially) until the show is canned.

TLS was already in the works, so the beginning would probably have been funded, at least in part, by all three companies. I thought that Mirage (aka Laird) was paying to finish TLS and send it to DVD, after the decision to cut it off at the knees. And I figured that Mirage would be breaking even on this effort, but part of the payoff would just be finishing something they started and doing the job well. Considering that Laird is something of a perfectionist, it wouldn't surprise me if he felt uneasy about leaving it undone.

I don't think Mirage would finish it knowing they'de break even on DVD sales just to finish something well. If they were somehow able to release a DVD they would need to cut in Playmates and 4Kids for the part they did pay for. No slight against Mirage here, but they would have to be dumb to pour that much time and money into something like that and take the hit themselves with no reward just to finish what they started and do it well.

In fact Mirage finishing it at all doesn't really make sense, it would still be 4Kids having to do post production on all these unfinished episodes. They have the design team, voice talent and production crew that has handled it since day 1.

I would assume work on the Lost Season wrapped and they went right into production on Fast Forward (give or take some months for redesigns etc). None of the partners could or would back out of the Lost Season mid-production and leave Mirage to foot the bill. The money was already budgeted and basically spent at that point so why not finish it, if not just to not be sued. The decision to shelve it for now was probably more of somone high up going "Out analysts etc say these ninja/demon toys/episodes ain't gonna fly, let's put the turtles in the future and try to have self contained episodes from no on."

don't take my word for it though I thought we were talking about how awesome it would be if Ace Duck was in the new movie.

WRONG!

The show is paid for by a number of partners including Mirage, Playmates, and 4kids. Odds are that Playmates felt that the tribunal season wouldn't make great toys.
Um yeah 4Kids refused to pay for TLS and that's why Laird paid for it. Then they wanted to air it and they took the project over and made him can an episode before it was finished due to content.

Releasing a DVD never potentially damages any market. They don't have to worry about that crap. A 2K3 DVD could raise even more hype because they damn well know there's 2K3 fans who hate FF. A DVD release now would encourage those fans to go see the film as well.

There was a push for Fast Forward and those are the toys you see on shelves, now they are being phased out by the movie toys and the movie will be pushed, then that will die down and Fast Forward will come back.
I don't know where you shop but around here FF and the movie share the shelves and in most toys stores it's all FF.

If I was Peter Laird would I think I could make more money off the movie or from the "Lost Season" of the TV show?
He paid for both what does it matter? And obviously he can afford to fund TLS because the movie company is most likely paying for most of the movies production. He stands to make money off of all of this. Either way Laird has been more adamant on making the fans happy not making a buck.

The Lost Season probably won't be released in full (officially) until the show is canned.
Maybe not here but it is being released in other countries showing that it's simply 4Kids holding it back. They have to censor everything hence why Insane never aired here on TV.

Where did you get this information that Laird payed for this? Who do you think wrote the episode that got canned? how did that episode get as far as it did before someone said "this content is unsuitable"? there would have been a script, designs, storyboards, storyboard revisions and all that work into animation. How many people saw all this before someone pulled the plug?

Releasing a DVD never potentially damages any market. They don't have to worry about that crap. A 2K3 DVD could raise even more hype because they damn well know there's 2K3 fans who hate FF. A DVD release now would encourage those fans to go see the film as well.

No one has to encourage the fans to go see it, they basically already have their money, they need to get the people that might not see the movie into the theaters and they don't want to confuse their message. The FF DVD is coming soon, and I'm seeing ads and articles about its release. It's on the air now, it's the brand they are pushing. Releasing another anytime soon would potentially eat into the sales of the FF DVD. By the time the FF DVD has run its course the movie will be on DVD, then more FF then whatever is next after that (TMNT 2?) ;)

He paid for both what does it matter? And obviously he can afford to fund TLS because the movie company is most likely paying for most of the movies production. He stands to make money off of all of this. Either way Laird has been more adamant on making the fans happy not making a buck.

Because everyone involved stands to make more money by sitting on it now.

I'm sure Imagi is not charging full price since this is their first foray into cgi animated features, and their work here with a big name property will only generate more income for them down the line. I'd also wager that Playmates and 4Kids have some role to play in the film as well. 4Kids is probably handling licensing or some such aspect and Playmates of course is making the toys and is banking on the success of the film to generate more toy sales. Judging from the crap screen shots I feel like Ubisoft just licensed the film and the game will reflect that. It's odd to me that Konami didn't take it... haven't figured that out. I'm just kind of thinking out loud here. I have no doubt that Peter Laird wants to keep his fans happy and produce a great product... but the proof is in the pudding so to speak. :-?

Insane In the Membrane didn't air because of Fox's standards and practice's in the United States (BS&P), 4Kids has no say in that. 4Kids submitted the episode and Fox came back and said "We're not showing this on out network". :dead:

I assume you're refering to the Greek versions of TLS on youtube. When I think global markets and movie/television promotion I ussually don't think of Greece. Those guys have their own set of rules.

The episode was half finished and then 4Kids canned it. Garbage Man episode, because the content was to harsh.

Those screen shots are from the PS2 version of the game. The next gen versions have yet to be reveled. And the game sounds like it's going to be amazing so you might want to do some research before you judge a game on a few screen shots you saw on the internet.

No the heads of the board changed. The previous heads were okay with it*Why it was green lighted to begin with* but the new ones were not. It was said these board heads were 4Kids board men. You should really read peoples Emails to Dan more often.

Not in the least I'm referring to the Australian release of the DVD which I guess you don't know about.

You should really research things more. All the info I have was given to me by either Dan or I've seen it posted on here by other fans who have asked TMNT related people questions.

I should wait to play it, but I'm sure they won't look that much better. Besides that graphics do not a good game make.

Dan must have been mistaken, confused or you're confused. That never happened and they wouldn't have much of anything to do with the decision anyway... the decision was probably the 4Kids Ceo and/or the President.

Oh god... it looks like a war is about to break out....

Anyway, the impression I am getting is Playmates is phasing out TMNT FF stock in favor for TMNT movie figures, resulting in a further push for the movie itself. This emphasis on the movie will only work four times: Holiday 2006, March 2007, October 2007 (most likely date for the DVD of the movie to be released), and Holiday 2007 before the movie figures fade from shelves in favor of a return to the regular TMNT figures or TMNT FF figures.

With a shelf life of basically a year, IMAGI, Playmates and Mirage have it in their best interests to push these figures which feature a higher price point and brand new sculpts in favor of their older, cheaper counter parts. During the brief time of when TMNT FF and TMNT Movie figures were out, the TMNT FF figures sold better because of their lower price ($5/6 versus $7/8 is a substainal difference). I believe we will see a resurgence of TMNT FF figures around June to August.

How much is half finished?
They had already started the animation process*Which is over half finished because everything leading up to that is the bulk of the work*
NOTE: This episode was never completed. The script was finished and some animation had begun when 4Kids pulled the plug because it was deemed too controversial for a children's program (apparently Hun and the Garbageman were going to be conjoined twins that were surgically separated at birth).

PRINT IS DEAD.
What does that mean?

I should wait to play it, but I'm sure they won't look that much better. Besides that graphics do not a good game make.
It uses the Prince Of Persia engine*Jade engine if you will*, ever played that game? It's highly rated because of how fun the core gameplay is. It won't be any different with the TMNT. It'll play just like a PoP game except your a turtle and you fight foot soldiers. Just because it's a movie game doesn't mean it's going to be bad. The last few TMNT games have been so bad I didn't even bother to buy Mutant Melee or the 3rd one.

Further more have you ever played a 360? Cause obviously you haven't if you think the PS2 and the 360 are anywhere near the same level. The 360 is in a whole different field of it's own in terms of graphics. Comparing the two is like comparing rotten peanut butter to fresh.

Wait...what?

Dan must have been mistaken, confused or you're confused. That never happened and they wouldn't have much of anything to do with the decision anyway... the decision was probably the 4Kids Ceo and/or the President.
Yes I'm sure Dan who works at Mirage is mistaken. Here ya go

The final edited and mixed version of the notorious 'Insane in the Membrane' was deemed unsuitable for air by Fox Broadcast Standards and Practices. Apparently, in between the time the episode was written, storyboarded, animated and edited (all stages approved by Fox BS&P), and the time the show was mixed for air, there was a change of personnel in the Fox BS&P offices, and no one involved in the original approvals was still employed at Fox. Upon seeing the episode, they were said to be 'horrified' and that there was no way they could air the episode. I'm not sure I disagree with them - had there been BS&P comments earlier in the process, we certainly would have handled the show differently. But as it was approved at every stage, we went full steam ahead. In the end, I was told it was bad judgment on my part... so there you have it.

I want to see all these Dan e-mails has anyone archived them? And what is a TMNT related person anyway?
I'm sure someone does but most of if not ALL the info I have told you here was on the official site at one point in time. And I guess you don't read around much. We've had Boardman, Murphy, and Kevin all post here and answer questions.

Thank you, yes!

Yes I'm sure Dan who works at Mirage is mistaken.

He doesn't work at 4Kids. I didn't know that working at Mirage made you perfect. Seriously, nothing against Dan (because honestly I haven't read his e-mails so I'm just going by what you say...)

...We've had Boardman, Murphy, and Kevin all post here and answer questions.

And I'm sure there are plenty of other people who work on the show and even post at times who may have information those individuals did not - or see things from a different perspective.

Especially from Boardman (I love the guy but OMG).

All of these people, Mirage, 4Kids and I'm sure everyone here want TMNT to be great - it doesn't matter if it's the cartoon, the toys the fruit snacks - whatever. Myself included. But there are a lot of hurdles in making something great, and here we have a situation compounded by the fact that there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen and they all have their own tastes and plans for this property.

:tneutral:

This has gotten way off topic. I stand by my original statements on page 3. (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=456162&postcount=49) Especially anything concerning Ace Duck.

And I'm out!
