Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by J.K. Rowling, the fifth in the bestselling series has been scheduled for release on Saturday, June 21, 2003...
"We are thrilled to announce the publication date. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is absolutely superb and will delight all J.K. Rowling's fans. She has written a brilliant and utterly compelling new adventure, which begins with the words:
"The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive.... The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four.
"Later in the novel, J.K.Rowling writes:
"Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses. 'It is time,' he said 'for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry. Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything.'
-Barbara Marcus, President of Scholastic Children's Books in the United States, and Nigel Newton, Chief Executive of Bloomsbury Publishing in Britain
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is over 255,000 words compared to over l9l,000 words in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The new book is 38 chapters long, one more than Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Wow, I sure can't wait for this one... Any of you guys HP fans?!

I am. I can't wait for that book to come out. Sound like a good book and its long :D . The quote "Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses. 'It is time,' he said 'for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry. Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything.' is very interesting. Wonder what hes talking about (want it out now!!!!)

I can't wait...I am guessing it has to do with harry's past or something, OR some kind of power or something within him he never knew he had...
Yea, this is damn long...only one chapter longer, but about a third larger...If the 4th one was bigger than the second and third ones combined...you can imagine how large this book is going to be or how much it will weigh, lmao...
Yeah, those books do seem to keep getting longer and longer, don't they? Well, I'll definitely be picking it up... as soon as it's in paperback.

Some whaat off topic, but any word who'll take up the role of Dumbledroff in the new movies, heard a lot of rumors (the one about Magneto/Gandalf doing it came out in a tabliod and has no truth to it from what I've heard)

As an avid Harry Potter fan, I cannot wait for the fifth book to come out in June. I can't believe the fourth book was released three years ago! It doesn't seem like it's been such a long time, but in other ways, it seems like that was forever ago.
I like the fact that the books keep getting longer and longer. That just means the plots are thickening and thickening!
The fourth book, obviously the longest one, was by far my favorite. The only things I hope that don't happen by the end of the series are:
1) We don't get some Star Wars ending where Lord Voldemort really ends up being Harry's father, and that's why young Potter can speak to snakes and why the Sorting Hat thought he'd make the perfect Slytherin.
2) Dumbledore doesn't end up being a bad guy. I don't know why I think this, but it would be the ultimate swerve to make him a bad guy all along, and then not reveal it until the very end. I would hate that.
But tell me that the following passages from the fourth book on page 696 don't sound suspicious:
----------
"He said my blood would make him stronger than if he'd used someone else's," Harry told Dumbledore. "He said the protection my - my mother left me - he'd have it too. And he was right - he could touch me without hurting himself, he touched my face."
For a fleeting instant, Harry thought he saw a gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore's eyes. But next second, Harry was sure he had imagined it, for when Dumbledore had returned to his seat behind the desk, he looked as old and weary as Harry had ever seen him.
"Very well," he said, sitting down again. "Voldemort has overcome that particular barrier. Harry, continue, please."
----------
Now was there a gleam of triumph in Dumbledore's eyes because he was happy that Voldemort had broken through Harry Potter's defense? If he's a bad guy all along, it looks like he momentarily let it show because he sure seems happy to hear the news. I'm wondering if this isn't a subtle but valuable hint of things to come. And then Dumbledore has to calm himself down as to not make it obvious: "Very well. Voldemort has overcome that particular barrier." All the while thinking, however . . . Yes!
I don't know. Maybe I'm over-speculating. Maybe that paragraph has a whole other meaning. But when I read those passages, a bunch of red flags went up.
What do you guys think?
"D'you - d'you want to go to the ball with me?" said Harry. Why did he have to go red now? Why?
"Oh!" said Cho, and she went red too. "Oh Harry, I'm really sorry," and she truly looked it. "I've already said I'll go with someone else."

Heh, shredhead, i just told you how long book 5 will be, lol.
Anyway, good speculations NTCF! I saw that too and got a little curious, but it may be a trick from Rowling, she pulls a lot of these, which makes the books interesting... It could mean something like Dumbledore just found out that only harry's blood can make him stronger or something...I don't know...but it is a little strange...It was a surprise enough when Fudge was getting pissed off at Dumbledore...and they had the parting of the ways, I really don't think Dumbledore will let us down...heh.
Also, about the Star Wars thing, I just highly doubt that will happen...JK Rowling will probably come up with some really clever way to finish off the book, it wouldn't be like her to make something that overused...If Voldemort was his father, who was James and Lily Potter?
Another thing I can't wait to find out is how quidditch is going to be. Since Wood isn't there, gryffindor needs a new keeper and captain, I wonder who it will be..Other teams need replacements to such as Marcus Flint not there anymore either. I also can't wait to see what happens with the relationship with Snape and Dumbledore this book...it is all going to be very interesting...Remember at the end of the 4th book Dumbledore assigns Snape to do something important, which he knew about? I really want to know what that was...heh Other things that could happen is someone we know may be a prefect...they probly will take the O.W.L's test. Oh well, now it all is coming back to me which means I am going to go mad crazy waiting the next few months...oh well
NTCF, you were right, it didn't seem that long at all....part of it is probly due to the fact most people gave up waiting for it, LOL. :)

What do you guys think?
I personally think that Dumbledore could possibly be happy about knowing exactly WHAT gave Voldemort his power. If you know the source of your enemy's power, you can use that to your advantage.
Though I wouldn't be at all surprised if he had some ulterior motive.

YAY! :D I can't wait! :D
It has been so long coming, however, I think I'll have to re-read the other books to know what's going on LOL
When all this Harry Potter hype first started I wanted nothing to do with it. I was only by chance that my mother bought Ana, my daughter the film on dvd. I sat and watched it and then made a promise to myself that I would read all of the Harry Potter books.
I am so glad I did, as it has awakened a love of reading in me and opened the door to many other interesting and exciting novels

I honestlu don't get what people see in Harry Potter. I haven't read any of the books, But I have watched the first Movie. I tought it was VERY broing. My little sister, who is a huge Potter fan thinks that movie is great... Well these are the biggest mysteries in life...

The two movies are crap. I'll get that out of the way right now.
As for the new book: FINALLY! I haven't had anything to read since I finished off The Hobbit a little while back. The Harry Potter books are damn good reading, and getting alot deeper as they go along as well. These last three books are going to be very interesting...
I still think The Lord of the Ring is better though.

I dont think the movies were crap, well the first one was crap. It was very boring and in my opinion the first book was the worst of the four. But I like the 2nd movie. It was a lot more interesting and had much more action. The Harry Potter books are the best books ive ever read :)

Karpo, it is rediculous to say Harry Potter is crap and you don't know what all the hype is about when you haven't even read the books yourself. The movies are a very poor indication as to what Harry Potter is like. I really suggest actually reading the books instead of bashing people's opinions on which you have no right to.
Yea, the last books are supposed to be a lot darker too, so it will be very interesting as raphael-sama has said.

I used to wonder what the hype was about. I remember lining up to see a movie and seeing the line at the bookstore next door (people waiting for book 4). And I wondered what the big deal was. Then I took a chance and read it. I can't wait for book 5. And the thing is, I really enjoyed the movie, because it took me back to the book, but it could never replace the read, just help remember key points. Book 3 and 4 are insane.
Edit: Garry Oldman as Black....Man I hope so.

I have to agree the the first movie was boring (haven't seen the second yet.) But like with most book adapted movies, the books are WAY better. You're always saying how people shouldn't judge TMNT based on the movies and cartoon, and that they should read the Mirage comics. Well, take your own advice and read the Potter books. You don't need to buy the $20 hardback special-of-the-week ones, cheap used paperbacks are okay. Even get them from a library if you can.
I used to think the Harry Potter craze was stupid too, but then I got curious and read the books. I'm not an obessed fan, I just like well-written stories.

That might be a good idea. Maybe I should read the first Book. And I don't need to buy them, My little sister has them all.
Yeah, I borrowed them from my siblings as well. Now, I'm the only one who reads them.

Hrmm.. heh. Well, I tried to read the first book (my bro likes reading them). I had saw the first movie too... but for some reason HP does not captivate me. I guess the royal granduer of Lord of the Rings has me spoiled.
Or that I really never liked stories that captured the year to year life of a group of friends going through school (even if it's magic school!) But that makes sense, since I wasn't a fan of 90210, Saved by the Bell, or uhm... the babysitters club. :goofygri: Yeah, others have told me it gets better as each book goes by, but I guess I'm impatient. I want the best now!
But hay, more power to the HP fans for their new book! At least you have something more to look for... whereas after I read all the books Tolkien published... that's all there is! :P

I had a similar situation prowl. I think i was in 5th or 6th grade when i started seeing them. Everyone in my class was reading them and i thought the whole idea was stupid. But about 3 years I read the first book, I loved it. But after iread the next 2 I loved it even more. Then I read the 4th and it blew me away. It was the best! I think you people that dont like it should just read one(3 and 4 are the best). I did it with LOTR. I read the first book and got into to it a little, now im hooked.

Hey Karpo, perhaps you should start with 3. Even though the movies are not total representations of the books, they do tell the stories. Things begin to change in book three and four. Not to mention things that one thought had little relevance in the first two books, have a deeper meaning now.
After reading book one and two, I thought I had Rowing figured, and that the books would have the ScoobyDo syndrom. A bad guy is after Harry and in the end "He would have succeeded if it wasn't for those medling kids", but after reading three and four, I realized that more was at stake and that the little world presented in the first two books/movies was only a part of a much bigger picture.
You have to really like the characters for the books to work, if you hate the Potter then it may not captivate you.

I guess I could just skip the boring ones and read the better HP books out of the series. But I dunno, it still does not appeal.
Not sure if it's the topics in HP, cause I just love books (and movies) like the NeverEnding Story, the Last Unicorn, Dark Crystal, the Labyrinth, and Willow very much. I guess the whole... theory of how Harry's life was crap up until a certain point.. and then bam, he goes to magic school and it's like the best. He's got all these powers, a family rich with magical history, talents and fortune, and otherwise sums up as the coolest kid in the whole school. Bleh.. I wish my life would turn around like that! Then there's all this about the affairs between the adult characters (Remis)... which then just scares me to see how far some adult fans read into that. *shudder*
Er.. I rather take the NeverEnding Story over that anyday. Sorry!

I think you will enjoy them Karpo, but I really think there is a need to start at book 1. There are just some things that are definately worth knowing that haven't been exposed in the movie...But since you already saw the movie, you can't really fantasize it as well as people who have read the books first, so I don't know.If you read the first book though, you will probly finish them all before the 5th book comes out so you will be in a good setup right there, heh. :)

I can't wait for the books. I was the same as most. People were going crazy for HP and I thought it was all stupid. I watched the first movie and thought...hmm not too bad. My little sister had all of the books so I read them. Man was I surprised that they were probably some of the best books I've ever read. I'm really interested in that Dumbeldore quote. It seems like Rowling is going to throw a nice swerve. Hopefully nothing to do with Dumbeldore or any else on the good side turning traitor.

I don't mind people switching sides, as that has been happening throughout all the books so far and it makes the book much more interesting for me at least. Fudge used to respect Dumbledore a lot more, but now he seems to have parted in the ways....Snape is sort of on both sides at this point, I can't wait to see what happens with him in the next book, he is easily my favorite character. Others have switched too, like Sirius although it wasn't technically a switch, but he was hated and now he is liked. Also the new book promises the return of Remus Lupin!!! :)
