A little disclaimer: I don't go around trying to flame people or his or hers interests, but only encourage fruitful discussion. Not to mentio, I graciously do not put down others or his or hers threads, so I am asking that whatever respect you give others you give that same to me. For I did nothing to you, so do not take your vents out on me...

Now on to the thread...I hope!

Ok, ninjas and jedi. Well, the two are equal. Doing what each does to make it through the times. Let me think...Yoda is ancient, Splinter is at the prime of his life. Yoda can prove he's got skills, so can Splinter. Both are masters. Each care for the individuals both instruct. Yoda teaches at a temple, Splinter a sewer. Jedi were the guardians of peace in the galaxy before the Empire, ninjas just vanish...Jedi use the force and are atuned to it...ninjas draw upon inner strength and focus it onto his or hers goal. The force will always be with you, ninjas fade away into the darkness to fight another day. Strict codes of devotion are a jedi's life, ways of silence and secrecy are the ninja's. Jedi have laser swords, ninjas have katanas...lasers are fun :D

ok that is my rant...later...
i'm a star wars chica, and damn proud of it!!!

Hear hear!

Yeah, I agree with your points. And as soon as I find that one George Lucas article (very hard task, it is now) I'd post it here. Otherwise. I guess we have to nudge it out of Heretic. Or something.

what exactly do you want to know, HT??

Couldn't Yoda just use the force and choke Splinter to death? :D

Ah, but Yoda is puny, and despite what he said in Empire, size will matter if he goes against Splinter. Splinter has the moves and the Confucionism to boot    He'll try to talk Yoda to defeat with his advice...

LOL, I'm SO glad someone started this convo! :D

It would be hilarious if the characters from TMNT and SW got together, Splinter and Yoda would talk philosophies, Leo and Luke could compare swordsmanship (or in Image terms, cyberprosthetics  ), Leia and April could chat about guy issues, Casey and Chew would go gangbanging (fighting gangs sense!) Raph and Han could chat about fighting, Young Anakin and Don about electronics, and Shredder and Vader could compare their outfits and who's got a more ominous voice!

I must say, if there was anything i'd like to see, it would be Splinter in the outfit of the black jedi master, and both of the masters having a good sword/lightsaber session with their students--that would be one SWEET class to attend! :D

i see.......

If you all recall 'The River' storyarch in the Mirage series, Splinter is quite capable of generating a giant energy fist to fly ten miles away and smack someone else. I think he'd give ol Yoda a run for his money.

Oh yeah... very much so.

But as I was saying, Heretic, You had touched on this breiafly int he toher thread, but it didn't seem to relate much. I guess what I was hunting for, is that in what ways the Force does relate to chi-energy. Would a Ninja be able to pick up large objects and move them about? And if a ninja master is also able to use the mind control abilities like a Jedi.

I had felt (from watching Episode one) that being a Jedi also means one has psionic talent. Like telekenisis and telepathy. Whereas, the typical ninja would only have chi energy to work with. ...?

I assume you are referring to 'real' ninja here, so I will address the discussion as such.

Well, to begin this discussion you need to understand first what ki (Japanese transliteration of ch'i) is, or at least how it is defined in the ninjutsu tradition. In 'The Ninja and Their Secret Fighting Art', Stephen K. Hayes relates the first conversation he had with this generation's ninjutsu grandmaster:

"[...] the ninja learns to use the dynamic force of the universe. The West does not acknowledge anything like this force. The Orient sees it in everything living as well as static. The trick is to learn how to tune into this natural force and make it work for one. Natural body movement eventually replaces conventional muscle power in fighting, whether one is punching or slashing with a sword. In this way, even an old and seemingly weak ninja is still capable of exercising great power. In fact, the older he gets, the stronger he gets."

In 'Ninjutsu: History and Tradition', Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi (the current ninjutsu soke [head of the family] of this generation) states:

"The word 'ki' in the Japanese language is defined as the universal dynamic force, the energy behind the 'spirit' of everything in existence or potentially in existence. 'Ai' is the root form for Japanese words that translate as 'harmony', 'coming together', and 'associating'. As interpreted by the densho scrolls compiled by the former headmasters of the Togakure ryu, the concept of 'kiai' is literally translated as 'harmonizing with the dynamic force of the universe'. 'Kiaijutsu', therefore, is the technique of being in harmony with this dynamic force in order to act and react with what is appropriate. It means attuning with the total flow of energies and happenings of which we are a part. All the individual pieces and aspects merge as one flow."

Needless to say, the ninjutsu concept of 'ki' is more or less identical with Lucas' concept of the 'Force'. To my eyes anyway, there is no difference between the two.

I will stop for now, and answer any questions you might have, and then continue on with the discussion later.

Well I think Lucas has confessed that Most of the Star wars mythology is greatly Influenced by Eastern culture.

One thing I don't get about the whole Jedi thing is: If they can shoot lightning from their hands and choke people with the force, why do they even need lightsabers?

Did you see Episode 2? The fight between Yoda and the other dude? That is why they need lightsabers, you can't solve everything by the force obviously.

And it must take a lot out of A Jedi. And I think that the lighting thing might be a sith ability.

Yoda would win, just cause he would. He's a Jedi and all that, you know what I mean?

Though would Yoda and Splinter fight each other? I mean, aren't they both pacifists?

Why not Darth Vader vs Shredder? or and Luke vs Krang's Android Body? or Princess Leia vs Irma?

Splinter is not a pacifist, atleast not at the time of first issue.

Oh yeah.. I remember how a few of us were wondering if the Leo in the imges comics was gonna get a cybernetic hand (like Luke!) after he lost that one. Like CyDOn would make it for him er something.

But anyway.. as you were saying! :P

Eye of Sarnath

Leo: "My cybernetic implant is better than yours!"
Luke: "Oh yeah?" *pulls out lightsaber*
Leo: "Yeah!" *pulls out katanas*

It could get pretty messy from there...

Well too bad the light saber would cut trough katana easily..

I thought the whole concept of Yoda being able to fight like that was totally ridiculous.... I mean first he's having trouble walking on his cane and then all of a sudden he's jumping all over the place with incredible speed. It was the stupidest thing in the 5 movies so far in my opinion.... even worse than the ewoks. And correct me if I'm wrong but I remembered his light saber being gold in the movie when I saw it in the theatre and now when I saw an ad for it it was green.

Ewoks were a good idea compared to the new episodes. Return of Jedi was a watchable movie, But the new episodes

Return of the Jedi had it's moments... but the new movies have just been really bad, sorry to anyone who thinks otherwise. I just hope Episode 3 is better, but I seriously doubt it. But jeez, all everyone is doing nowadays is sequels, sequels, sequels... This year alone there's gonna be Terminator 3, Die Hard 4, Legally Blonde 2, Final Destination 2, Bad Boys 2, WHY CAN'T WE THINK OF AN ORIGINAL IDEA HERE?!

Karpo_007
01-27-2003, 03:49 PM
Die hard 4? Havent heard anything about that. Sequel can be made good, but it hardly happens. Few examples Aliens, T2, Empire strikes back, there are others.

And In Star Wars, "New hope" was good "Empire strikes back" best Star Wars there ever will be and Return of Jedi was a wathable movie too.

But Lucas can't do it anymore. Je writes the dialohue himself, and it shows. It is very cheesy. I really doubt that episode 3 will be any better.

Deathknight
01-27-2003, 06:34 PM
I don't remember where I heard about Die Hard 4 but I'll really be ashamed of Bruce Willis if he's in it.... it's just gonna be a stupid sequel that was no better than the last 2.... the first one was great, 2nd one sucked, 3rd one was.... ok, and god knows how this one is gonna be.

Karpo_007
01-27-2003, 11:42 PM
Yeah the first one is a true classic. Well I hope they wouldn't do part 4, There is a very slim chance it would be a good movie.

Oh yes... I don;t se SPlinter as being a pacifist either. He may have changed after his first attempts in revenging Sphredder had been done... but his intentions were not nice ones for the first 12 years of his mutant life.

bump?

does anyone actually wanna talk about the original topic??
