I didn't think the VH1 workup was funny at all. I really, really dislike the way TV producers abuse the power of editing.

This was good. I would say it did show Ivey and Buslady in a positive light, not because they spun it that way, but because it was well-balanced and the truth happens to be positive in this case.

I think this showed real people. It wasn't overly flattering but it didn't make them look like complete nuts for liking TMNT, like VH1 did to Michelle.

Yes that's my kid Chris and he normally talks like that. He's incredibly intelligent. He loves using big words and he knows how to use them. I watched my copy of the ep, he cracks me up cos he's got his favorite scarf and sweater on in the house! He wears that sweater in 95 degree weather!! LOL!! He's a nut.
Im kinda bummed they didn't show my babies. At that time I had 3 baby turtles, a week later one hatched. There's 5 now.

The part about the museum idea interested me, it proves the "manaical obsessions" at least have a more profitable purpose without neccersarily selling them, and leads to a good educational source for future historians.

Did'nt like, as usual, the way the franchise was portrayed at all . For a guy who thinks the original cartoon is better than most TMNT interpretations, I STILL hate it's used the way it is to convey what the Turtles always are. And of course, no real emphisis on it. This is as generic as it gets, the show does'nt CARE about the franchise, they just focus on what the fans do with what they like and thier lives, they don't concentrate on anything else.

I mean really, there not talking about the comic, or about the cartoons, or about anything, there just putting everything on display. If they DID talk about the franchise, then they got edited. Big time edited. This is dime-a-dosen television, good exposure, but just candy, no food.

The Biography Channel is the only f'ing thing that would ever allow the TMNT to be represented in a respectful and more candid way, especially the fans, I'd push for fans to help a documentary be made for THAT than wasting time with shows like this that would prefer to continue to present the STIGMA of fanatics.

This show seems to be about personal stories of why people were fanatical about whatever they love. The franchise and its portrayal is somewhat irrelevant, although I do think that people connect to TMNT in a more personal and interesting way than they can connect to, say, Batman or Superman. Don't you think they showed why fandom could rationally be a big part of someone's life?

The pathos being the whole human story that everything was edited around, to the exclusion of the TMNT stuff that you lament was excluded. Yes, there is stuff most people would put on the Crazy side of the sanity spectrum... clearly these life choices aren't very common, which is why they are TV fodder. But there are also a lot of positive things going on around the TMNT love, as nicely articulated by Chris and Ivey. The message that stood out to me was this: fanatics are human beings, even likeable ones with families and dreams and problems and moms and cute children. That is an incredibly positive message, especially considering that the trend in reality-based television is to use editing to create the equivalent of a carnival freak show. If you only want to notice the "negative" side, that's your choice. Maybe it's a choice that a lot of people would make when watching this show, I dunno... most people are remarkably far from the Rational extreme of the sanity spectrum, even those with more common un-TV-worthy lifestyles.

Yeah, and just think about what a boring place the world would be if there were no eccentrics and everyone was emotionally balanced and healthy. Neuroses are a fact of life. Eg. I am fairly neurotic. I have an irrational fear of bananas. (whack job, I hear you say, but no. I am very normal if not a little highly strung.) This causes much amusement amongst friends and family. They peel a banana and some evil people wave them at me. Why am I scared of bananas? Can't tell you - I don't know. I think they are gross, but I am proud because without me and my banana fear, many people's day would be much more boring. :D
Being obsessed with ninja turtles is no where near as dangerous as other obsessions can be. I was stalked by a creepy guy for a while. Now that was scary!

What the "human story" is, I could'nt give a damn, these "Fanatic" shows are no different than documentaries that look at people who overcome a handicap or a terminal illness in spite of adversity, it makes us look like absolute outcasts, and they manipulate and edit everything around this cliche.

I want a documentary that at least has fans coversing the history of the franchise, not saying they can smile being fans and live with it holding Turtle parties with freinds who all have the "Lemme jump out the f*cking window" look plastered all over their faces. It's not that hard, and these hacks for television producers see us as no better than people with disabilities and pick the most outlandish people to reflect that.

It's old, it's cliche, it's embarrasing. It's something that needs to change, and accepting it in any form is unacceptable to me, it's settling for something mediocre, something backwards.

I was biting my tongue though and cringing allot over the other girl she honestly kind of scares and comes off as mentally unstable allot of the time in the interview.

You're absolutely right, there are plenty of people in the world who divide it into "winners" and "losers" and would place "fanatics" in the "loser" category. They do this by adhering to a system of criteria handpicked to make sure that they themselves can fit into the "winner" category. Those people are all fickle, judgemental dumbasses who are going to pick a set of people to be "better than" no matter what, so why should I care what they think of me for being who I am?

You seem to think that people would change their minds about TMNT... what... being for losers?... and they would change their minds if only they could know something about its awesomeness and its history of awesomeness. But I think people are going to think what they're determined to think, as evidenced by reviews of TMNT 2007. As jaded as that viewpoint is, I also like to give people a little credit and assume they know that people who like TMNT/Spiderman/Batman/whatever are not all crowded at the totally cowabunga radical extreme.

Yes I am a bit obsessive, I have an obsessive nature. What you guys saw was ME. BUT...if you knew me IRL..like a few online do...I'm a normal person. I keep my TMNT stuff in two places like you saw - the bus cos the kids like it, even teachers like it and in here, my office. When I want to be away from everybody I like to surround myself in something I enjoy.
My brother is the same way, he has a neat collection of race cars and hot wheels. It's no different. Some people like to surround themselves with a huge porcelein doll collection, or Pez dispensers or Barbies...it's the same thing.
Yeah it's true ever since getting back into TMNT, I think Raph on a daily basis but usually to write a story or draw.
And it's not all cos of TMNT I have turtles, I've always kept reptiles.

So please, don't think I'm wacko nuts! I'm really a normal mom, with a job, life, and all that. :D This is just my hobby.

That's what I'm saying, Buslady. I got the impresion that you keep most of your TMNT stuff in one room, and you decorate your bus. Hardly anything "nuts." And I thought Ivey was all-out, but she's not crazy... she doesn't walk around in a bandana all day talking surfer-speak or anything like that. Normal job, normal family, etc.

I don't know. I don't have a TMNT collection to speak of. I don't have a collection of anything to speak of. I might look at the toys when I'm in Target, but I don't buy them. I have some comic books that I haven't added to in years, except for the Donatello #1 I just had to have because it's my favorite and I happened across it. I have one TMNT shirt. No DVDs. I haven't seen more than 2 episodes of the OT since 1990. I haven't watched the movies all the way through since I first saw them. I don't even wake up to watch the new toon most of the time, if I'm home.

I'd be hard-pressed to call myself fanatical about TMNT. I just love the characters. But I don't find anything excessively weird about this Fanatical show. If you do, I guess I'm not going to understand why.

Manson used to be very creative he's toned down what he does now and pretty much is as bad as the bands he makes fun in music video sense anyway I don't have so much a problem with his new CD that's about to come out which I have already.
Reading books on other peoples lives and taking there ideas does not a great mind make...I liked manson because he was doing things at the time others hadn't been doing but at this point he just seems to be wanting acceptance.

That vast collection on the show and the talk about TMNT museums makes Ivey look rather ambitious to some people, and rather looney to other people. Some people would say she would have the right to brag about a collection like that whether she's looney or not. Again, I'm only going to talk about what's visible on the show, not about what people have heard from behind the scenes.

Wow, Hiya everyone. To those who like and those who don't like me.

Guess it's my turn to speak up... for someone that I don't think I know, you sure have a lot to say about me Putrescent. And there's a few things we deff differ on. One is, I don't talk about someone because of rumors though get to know them first. Hey judgment is a harsh thing to pass when ya don't know the person.

Bragging, well if you want to call it that you can. Though here's another view of what bragging is. Bragging is someone who goes around and says "I have this and you don't" And than turns around and tucks it away so only they can enjoy it. They're rude, and always trying to prove to be better than everyone else. So ok, I do talk about my collection a lot, but at the same time I work to help others with their collections. I don't sit here and go ha ha... but share when people are interested. And if people don't want to hear, they don't have to read the topics I post about it in or any of that stuff.

Talking about things more than once... well I get tired of talking about stuff a lot, I mean just because I have it doesn't mean I sit there and stare at them everyday and focus my life around it. A good example is the heads that everyone knows so well about, yes I got them... and they're impressive and I do enjoy the fact they're here but I got them to study and to enjoy. They are shared with anyone who comes over, they can look at them and they've even gone to events. But I don't talk about them everyday, though people who don't know me can say "That was brought up in BOTH shows you were in!" Yeah, the shows ask about them. A ton of people ask about them, I got so tired of answering where they came from in private messages on myspace that I put up a blog about where they came from to point people to when they ask. Someone who's bragging wouldn't get tired of repeating stories.

I am an obsessed fan with Turtles, but the show pointed out a lot of stuff you seem to be very blind to. About why I like Turtles, about the stuff I've gone through in my life, and about the strong family and friend support I've got. There's more to life than TMNT, and if people take a chance to look at that collection they may notice something people seem to be very blind to, esp going through the hall way... not everything up is TMNT. I'm an anime fan there's wall scrolls up. TMNT is just the main theme so people don't pay attention to the other items that are around me.

I don't feel like this show as done in a bad light at all. And I do feel that people already have a preset judging of me around because of "Totally Obsessed" and because of rumors about me. Though anyone talking here and picking at me, should think to themselves if I only lived for TMNT wouldn't I be one of those fans who people would know more online? Wouldn't I be a fan on EVERY message board, posting all the time every time I got something new in my collection? Wouldn't I be an in your face annoying type fan?

How often has anyone here seen me? Not much, I've posted on a very small handful of topics. I don't travel much from the ONE message board I do post on. I do have a few journals here and there and am on myspace. Though I don't jump on all the TMNT clubs on myspace either. I know I don't know a lot of fans on this board, including the one who says I go around bragging... Putrescent

I know people may find me weird on TV for who I am, but it is who I am. I'm not your normal person, though hey I think my life would be a lot more boring if I was... I like to give TMNT stuff away to fellow fans is that a crime? I love to wear costumes and entertain people (can't even do that anymore) where's the harm in that, since I've brought smiles to thousands people through it. If people can't see the good in my life, I'm sorry but that is their own choices. Me I'm enjoying my world, and if I wouldn't change for the other loud mouths who judged me in the past, I'm not going to change now.

I'm sorry if I seem to come off in defense, but when I come in and read people talking about me who don't even know me like that. It's sad. It's like even in the TMNT fandom people can't be themselves without worry that someone is going to tear them apart.

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the show and realized there was more to it, than some freak who collects TMNT. I won't ask for anyone to not to see me as weird in any way. Because everyone has their right to think what they want. Though I do ask, before people go around and start bad mouthing me, to at least try and get to know me for who I am and not listen to others.

Anything I've said here is based on how you've acted towards me. Before knowing me, you're passing rumors (which even the Mirage guys speak up when rumors are being spread here), than ya state ya don't want to know me and right away try to fix me on a word I know by sight but can't say so it seems. No the reason that his post stood out, and to be very honest is because he wasn't judging the show. He was judging by rumors. Others that were saying stuff, like how I scared them... was talk about the show.

As for the documentary itself...at some points I'm sure the show tried to make Buslady and Ivey rabid fans, obsessed over everything TMNT at one point or another. Although I couldn't help but just think "Woah...freaky" at some parts, I enjoyed seeing some of our fellow 'dromers up there. Heck, I just broke out into a grin when I saw Buslady modeling her trench coat :D

Well I think most people on this forum are very articulate and back up their arguments with factual evidence when they make a statement about the turtles. Think of some of the psychological debates we've had! I reckon it would make for a very interesting programme and would also demonstrate that TMNT is not just a "geekdom", but an interesting subject. Hey Ivey, I just watched Fanatical and I relate to you sooo much. Your not crazy and do not let them tell you that you have problems. The only problem in this world is judgemental people. As a child (a gay child) I was obsessed with April O'Neil from the age of 5. Other boys liked the turtles and Shredder and they were secondary characters to April, at least to me. I was abused by the "normal" and the "sane" people at my school for being "girly" from the time I went to school to the time I left and this started in kindergarten until I eventually dropped out and opted for a GED. I endured the same treatment as you for different reasons. When I left I went home to the solitude of my Turtle figures. April was my idol and still is. Some of us are just not treated well and we have to compensate for what everyone else is given so freely. If we compensate using television and movies then so be it. You go and you be you and let the "normal" people live their cookie-cutter lives. In the end it's you and me that are gonna go out happy.

I've read over this thread and I haven't found a single comment from Putrescent to be out of line. He/she is pretty much telling it true, or at least encapsulating the opinions of how the non-diehard TMNT fan might view such a thing.

Keep in mind there is a grand canyon of difference of how you or I Joe Dirt Hardcore TMNT Fan view TMNT Fan X's obsession with this or that... and the non-TMNT fan, general TV watcher-type.

Don't worry about it. Though he's right that he didn't say a million bad things, the only reason his post stood out to me was because he was the one to start using 'rumors' to judge me instead of the show. Others here did say worse stuff, and if it was bad stuff that got me to speak up I would of gone after them. People saw the show and have the rights to judge it for what they see, though I'll always see it as them judging a show because until it goes off of what was on the show by either meeting me or hearing something, it's just a TV show which could be edited one way or another.

Personally, I don't feel like I come off too crazy on the show. People have to think that while the TV show crew is here they're asking for certain things to be done. And also that if you're doing a TMNT event, like a party or convention people should be allowed to have fun with it. Also how the interviews (which is where they use our quotes from), is focused on our fandom. Ok, so it doesn't show our other interest that much. They do show that we have lifes, friends, and am able to enjoy our fandom. Does this mean that we throw Turtle parties everyday? Nope.... as I mentioned in the interview "I never did a sewer before". Others can feel different if they want to, though listen to the words of the interviews and tell me what is scary?

Is it scary that I'm a collector wants to share what I get?
Is it scary that the TMNT helped me to read, since School was doing anything to help?
Is it scary that I live in a family who makes costumes, some of which (non TMNT) have won world contests and my dad's talents was for a TV series in Michigan and Ohio?
Is it scary that I like to hang out with other fans when they're in town?
Is it scary that I use to be hurt in school, but when I got in Karate the fighting stopped?
Or does someone who is different and keeps their collection out in the open scare you?

Collectors have been doing the stuff that I have done from long before I was born. I know a collector of the Monkees, who would buy all the magazines and everything. I was amazed at what they put in the magazines showing people's collections. I didn't see the people as freaks or anything, though I really thought it was cool they were willing to support what they loved so much. I never thought I would be one of those collectors, and it has happened. It doesn't mean I walk the street shouting COWABUNGA every where I go, though it does mean if people talk TMNT to me, I'm not afraid to share my views and thoughts on what's going on.

I could go on every web site out there and speak up to the people who call me a freak job, sometimes I do play around like replying to people about "Totally Obsessed" on youtube, they're a fun group who really believe that I eat Pizza everyday and spent $5,000 just to be more like a Turtle. The things people would believe that they hear on TV? Heh notice the quotes people pick on with that is said by the host which was Fred Willard.

As I am curious as what people found wrong in that episode, people have their rights to express it. It's just the second rumors start to be thrown into the pot that I feel I gotta set up. And that's all it was, to make sure people would at least talk to me before something got around that I don't feel is true, and that I don't even know the person saying it. I don't want any fights to start up in here, and I think we shared our words enough to where we see each other stand.

Putrescent, I'm sorry we got off on a bad note. I am not a normal member of this board, so sometimes first things people can see is when you do step up with things that aren't good. I've had people come and tell me you're not a bad person, I believe that. It's just sometimes when you're passing rumors, it gets to the people that you're talking about. I've mentioned a few times now why your post stood out to me. I hope you understand, it wasn't a personal attack because I didn't like your nick or something, it wasn't personal at all. It was more the thought that I wish people would not spread things that they themselves could not prove.

If you go to TMNT-L, which is where I post I am Michaelangelo. And read through the areas where I post. You don't really find me bragging, you'll see reviews of events. You'll see a few autographs up from me to show people in a topic anyone can put their autographs in. And everything else would be discussing stuff Turtles, I've got over 3,000 posts on that forum and hardly any of it ever talks about my collection. It's more making friends with the people around me. If people bring up my collection, or Totally Obsessed I answer and talk. But it's not like it's even close to my #1 topic that I share with people.

One of the things others don't know is how we did the show. Yes their main focus as on TMNT, so of course we did everything we could with it. The focus isn't the history, it's US the fans; the goal of the program is to show a couple big fans, who they are, their love for a specific show and show what they've done with the fandom. They never insisted on anything. I had a legal issue with the bus, Daniel said 'Okay, how 'bout this way', and we compromised and it was all good. They at least showed stuff that is and isn't fan stuff. Okay, I'm a school bus driver...I'm actually obsessed a little with my new bus, and they kept that in me bragging about it ONLY cos I'm so damn proud of owning a brand new school bus and hey I got bragging rights :P OH and I just passed my certificate renewal so I got 5 more years of bus driving ahead of me :D...so I'm into more than JUST my Raph fixation. I'm glad they touched on my bus. I loved the road shots they did...they're good. And they showed I'm obsessed with my turtles...*grins* I love my turtles. Hands down. Yeha I was bummed they didn't show the babies. Cos I had what was the baby tank right next to their parents tank and I pulled one out and showed them. Oh well. I honestly don't think there is anything scary here providing you maintain balance. And that's only because lacking balance isn't healthy. I think it's great you are so passionate. Well I feel I got a balance. I got a family life, a friend life, and my fandom. I use to work a lot till I got hurt, at the factory I was working 68 hours a week, and before that there was times I'd hold up to 3 jobs at a time. So it's not like I totally focus on Turtles.

Here's a fact about me that the shows never seem to talk about (because it makes me sound more normal I guess). Though I got friends who come over almost every weekend (or every other weekend) to hang out. They're not TMNT fans, though the collection is up on my room, we don't talk much about the Turtles, and we don't watch Turtles. We're anime fans, with Fullmetal Alchemist and Naurto being two of our topics that we do discuss a lot.

I know my fandom looks big, but it's a collection that hasn't stopped growing and really I'm proud of it. Though it's not like I went out and bought this stuff over night and talk about it all the time. It's just here, and a part of my life.

I agree balance is very important. :) And knowing what is reality and what isn't. To me my reality is that I am just a fan. I'm nothing more, I'm nothing special. I'm just a fan. Every fan is equal no matter the size of their collection or knowlege. In the show they tried to get me to state that I was the "Worlds largest TMNT fan" I had to debate this with them, because I don't believe I am, so we added in "one of" so that people can realize I don't see myself as the biggest fan.

It's not so bad as long as ya except the fact that people are talking about a show and not you, don't take comments about the show personal. It was'nt scary. It was flipping boring. It's the side we've seen AGAIN and AGAIN from shows like this, yeah the whole fanatical thing DOES grate on me, but it's not "scaring" me, it's just annoying me. We don't need to be represented that way. That's where the core of MY disgust with this comes from, I can't speak for how Puter saw it, but he did seem to agree with me on the points I mentioned, that people WILL see us ALL as losers because they don't see what we, as fans, can really offer, all they see is us living lives with Turtle stickers and merchandise all over us. The museum line was the only instance of something constructive coming out of that episode.

It comes down to a basic point of interest: I am not interested in documentaries about people living their lives as TMNT fans, especially since we're all regs and can talk about that ANYTIME we want here, therefore anyone watching that show is likewise not interested in their lives as TMNT fans, we want to see a show talk about the franchise, 90% of the time the only instances fans are NOT detracted for their fandom is when there offering what they know to a show in the way Transfans and Doctor Who fans do


Do not misconstrue, I DON'T "hate" you, I don't know you, but I don't care about your wall-to-wall toy boxes, if you've got a lot, you clearly know a lot, bring THAT to the table the next time a television studio comes calling.

This fandom seriously needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and go forwards.

I agree, I would love to see a show about the real history and showing other sides of the Turtles. Though when the shows come calling, they already have their titles and their goals. And in the mean time, I don't mind doing these shows if that's what they want. Though the shows that call don't go through if people are too up about changing their story line.

And even when you give them more information, like in my interview I talked about the history of the Mirage comics, going to the original series, even the Next Mutation and 4Kids series. I gave both main back ground stories of Splinter. Though being the show they are, they edit it to what they want. They wanted the original series only, so I noticed. I'm glad that I even got the movie mentioned, since they cut out most of the stuff I did say about the movie coming out.

I would love to see shows like that, though I don't mind seeing shows about the fans either and learning people's stories. If you got a story to tell and a show wants to tell it, you shouldn't have to say no, just because you can post it online. And I don't think everyone feels that all Turtle fans are like me, or judge any other series by the other obsessed fans on TV. To each their own on this matter.

I wish we did get to see stuff to approve the final cuts. Though we don't, if we did VH1 would of never got the show they did out of me. I would of denied them the rights, but they have you sign a paper while they're filming that they can use what ever they film while there. So it's up to you on what they get while they're there.

VH1 got a lot more to play with to make me look bad, they were at my house for 3 days. And they took jokes editing them up to look real bad. And they tricked people to say lines by having the little rule of "repeat our question in your answer"... now Fanatical had the same rule, but they used it right. VH1 turned around and used only the repeating of the question and taking off the answer. And would lead ya into saying something they wanted.

I was very new to the idea of a camera crew following me around that weekend and I made a lot of mistakes. Mistakes that were not made again when Fanatical came over for one day to shoot what they did in that episode with me. I didn't even see the episode till the week after it aired, I got it in the mail.

I keep my TMNT stuff in two places like you saw - the bus cos the kids like it, even teachers like it and in here, my office. While my TMNT collection consists of the older toys, a few comics, all the movies and 30% of the 2k3 toon, my big love in life are horses. Horse lovers are almost identical, they all collect breyers, nab every calender that they see, every figurine, shirt, blankets, pillow cases, rugs, poster. Spend thousands on shows and taking riding lessons, millions on the actual horse for those fortunat enough to be able to live the ultimate dream of every horse lover!

Horse lovers are certaintly not nuts, it ends up being a way of life for most. And I believe the same scenario can apply to people who love to collect things on the TMNT, or on cars, or another type of animal. Tons also love to indulge in the Spider-Man, Bat-Man or Transformer world. Does not make them nuts or wakos. And this obsession is a hell of alot more healthier than the people who live for the next chemically inhanced high.

I could only wish, I always search for them. It's funny at anime conventions I go through the dealer room and ask them for Japanese TMNT stuff. Most of the time they give me the look like you're insane, but because of that I have a handful of toys from Japan, and a few other Japanese TMHT items though not a Manga to be found.

The funny booths are the ones that act like they have every Manga, there's one at Katsucon where you walk into it and they got a LOT and I just looked at it from the outside and shook my head. The lady looked at me and said "You want to have a look" my reply was "I bet you don't have what I'm looking for though." She seemed shock and replied "Try me" and I brought up the TMNT Manga, she didn't even know there was any TMNT Mangas. So the search is still going to this day, I'm hoping to some day find a Manga ;)

Assuming people are willing to volunteer time and talent, there's actually a lot of work to be done before you start doing things that cost money, like flying people places and filming. You need a script, a location list, a shooting schedule, a management schedule, a budget (and you need someone who knows how to budget a film). You need people who can write, film, edit, voice (gee, I wonder who...?) You need to know what physical format you want, how long the film needs to be, and how long it will take to put all the pieces together.

That's a long list, but it's far from impossible. In my experience the limiting factor on any project is having someone who's willing to take the lead.

Funding is a crapshoot... many indie filmmakers make films out of pocket... but hey a project like this has way more of a shot at funding than some upstart artist's man-eating chicken zombie flick. ;)

But unless people are interested, I'm just theorizing.

Heck, I was thinking something along the more basic lines of select fandom members each shooting "talking heads" videos interspread with scenes from all of the series compiled from DVDs, and pages of the comic, then have those videos all uploaded to the editor for the DVD, then trade away copies of the DVD with other things like toys and videos we're already trading etc.

An all-fan documentary would also provide a good means of helping push towards a more professional documentary in the future

It's human nature also that people fear what they don't understand. I could understand having a passing, non-associated view of Ivey, she could come off as a little extreme, or eccentric if you will, but she's by no means crazy. She's just got this great enthusiasm for all she does, and it's contagious when you're around her. She's an absolute blast to hang out with. She loves life; she loves the Turtles. Is that so wrong?

I've read through this thread about the talk of doing shows on the Turtles, and casting them and the fandom in this light and that light, and this just may be my opinion, but personally you're never going to win the masses in any form no matter what the focus of the fandom is. Whether it's a serious documentary, or not.

There's always going to be someone out there that will still view you as "losers" for it. That's for anything; TMNT, horses, baseball, Star Wars. It's not something that can be changed. It's how society is. Normal? What's normal? Find me one person out there that they can say they're perfectly normal. Meaning no kind of hobbies, obsessions, etc.; basically no life at all. I will guarentee you that they're wishing they could be like everyone else.

That's a cool idea. If you wanted to do something a little less intensive, that might be visible to more people, it would be pretty simple to have people shoot their own vids, and then collect them all on one site. It would still be possible to edit together a DVD. In fact you might get more participation and some pretty interesting stuff that way.

We are allowed to have thoughts that differ & as long as they're not meant to hurt, who cares? I think Zarius made a good point. Fanatical contacted me through myspace, they didn't know of the radio or even Totally Obsessed when they got a hold of me. They just saw my profile and shot me a message. I know they also posted a message I think on Mikey's forum looking for TMNT fans. So they were searching the internet, not who's closer.

I understand a lot of people were not aware of the show looking for people for it, I wouldn't have been if they didn't send me a personal message. Though by the time they got a hold of me, all of the stuff that was out in the media about me was about washed away, Totally Obsessed was not even on the internet yet, so the media totally forgot about me (which I was very happy about). I've gotten more press on me since "Totally Obsessed" came online than I had before hand.

I believe any fan could do these shows, if they either know where to reply to or if they got a good profile up. And there are hundreds of great fan profiles out there. I saw one on myspace before I went to bed last night that had a wonderful TMNT set up. I feel mine is kind of plan, though I like it being easy to load without worry about a back ground, music and all. Buslady was by no means close to where the Fanatical show was being done, and was still chosen for the show.

I encourage people to be willing to take the step of speaking their voices about their fandom, though at the same time I warn people that the shows and newspapers can really lie about you, after the interview so be careful and be ready for people to remark being it good or bad.

Oh and there is no money in this, at all. I've never gotten paid for any of the media things that I've done. If you find someone willing to pay ya, congrats!

Now to my comments. I just spent 30 min reading up on all the comments since my last post. All I have to say is wow. Some of you are too sensitive, some of you are just immature, some of you state your opinion, all of you just whine lol. All the "negative" people (as they've been called) actually have some truth in it. Obviously, Ivey and Buslady are considered extreme. Do they have issues? Maybe. Do they need therapy? Who knows. I agree, there is more to the fandom than collecting things and reciting lyrics from that horrible concert tour (the music was good, the rest was just crap). Honestly, I think the coolest thing was the turtle breeding. However, there are parts that are a bit extreme for both ladies. I have nothing against either, I have nothing against anyone who is for or against them. I'm not blaming the shows, but they could also go to sites like this and pick out different people so they show a spectrum of fans, not just the extremes. Okay, I thnk that's it for now. Thanks for all the comments, it's good to read others POVs :) One area I did want to reply to.

I'm not blaming the shows, but they could also go to sites like this and pick out different people so they show a spectrum of fans, not just the extremes.

They did use the forums and sites to find the people for the show. Myspace and Mikey's was two of the places, I don't know if they went anywhere else asking. Though I feel that even if they picked someone that was not as obsessed they would still focus only on the fandom of that person and make them look obsessed, that's what these shows do. It's not like Buslady or I only talked about TMNT, though their questions were focused on TMNT.

When I mentioned that these wall scrolls in the hall way are from my favorite anime, or this picture of me with a white tiger means a lot to me since I LOVE white tigers... it didn't matter towards the fandom and they didn't really look to video tape it. So no matter which fan is chosen, during the time they're on TV they'll be shown as big fans. The shows are going after certain stories when they come in.

You can't tell by watching a show where the obsession or fandom lays, until you meet the person. For the most part they caught me, with my fandom. Though they made it look like that was me 24/7, and it's easy to do since I do have a lot in my room. Though that doesn't mean I'm not a normal fan online or outside of my house, or that I even talk TMNT inside the house all the time. Though I do talk it a lot, and with a lot of different people, that's who I am ;) But after they get around the TMNT talk with me they find out so much more, just the first part of me you meet usually is the fan.

I don't expect the news media to pay me for my press releases or for filming me... and I wouldn't really expect a documentary-style show to pay me either. That would cause problems with overall integrity. In this case, I can easily imagine the uberfans (of any franchise) being accused of overplaying their fandom because they were being paid.
