View Full Version : Could this be what's happening?

I decided to move this news (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=21569) here as speculation.

Alien Hunters? Could this be the next series of TMNT? I guess after the non-success of FF they decided to keep going the Sci-Fi route. You know, as a change of pace.

Their doing jungle toys to, their just variants. Remember the Monster Hunter figures from 2K3?

I love how they always make toys like that, or the Mystic Fury turtles, and then later use them in the series but don't have the toys out to go along with the episodes so they don't sell well.

Common sense would say release Mystic Fury with the Ninja Tribunal episodes, and release Monster Hunter with Season 4, but they didn't do that...

I doubt this will be the new series, it's to weak to become a whole series but it could be an episode. Though I don't see they being able to make full blown characters out of those guys. I'd rather them focus on the cast they already have. Which means I want to see more Rat King and Hun. The mini mutants give me some hope of that so who knows.

I hope not. I'll give it a shot if they do though. I'd just have low expectations.

Drtooth

Me neither. Aliens are the easiset thing to do. Look at what they did to Goku and Gonzo. Instead of giving them a big explaination to their mysterious origens, they just made them aliens.

If I want to see an alien hunter show, i'd watch Men in Black.

Revan

I suppose it's possilbe. I was under the impression that the style of the new series would be similar if not the same as the 2k3 series.
If the new series adopts the TMNT movie look, then that would make these new toys make a bit more sense.

CyberCubed
09-10-2007, 12:48 PM
Those alien toys are just variants based on the movie line.

They're NOT toys based on the new season that starts in '08. We know a new Jaguar toy is coming out too, but that's not going to have anything to do with the cartoon either. Don't jump the gun.

Drtooth
09-10-2007, 03:22 PM
Either way, we have to worry about them fouling up the toy line with useless side varients, or we have to worry about them fouling up the cartoon series with useless side series. It's loose lose no matter what. I know the show and toy line are both geared to kids, but kids ain't that dumb. No matter what it is it is a stupid idea.

GK Punk

I actually agree with that. Variants practically killed He-Man in 2k2.

Aren't you jumping the gun assuming that too?

I think that purple alien could be a movie version of Sh'Okonabo... The mantis dude is from Episode 2 of Star Warts lol... The mechanical thingy has a slight resemblance to Wingnut (look real hard, the nose, the mechanical appendages)... the brown thing looks like some stone warriors from the first power rangers movie...

No because Laird would never use an Archie or Old Toon character in his series for anything more then a 3 second joke mocking them.

And they don't do that enough. That stuff is hillarious.

Edit

If this WERE the new TMNT series, I would like to see this as a three/four episode arc, not a full series. it would actually work pretty well for a short story line.

even if it's not said officially the 3rd relaunch isnt movie based, dont be surprised if it might actually turn out that way. I would like to see a same movie quality hour long TMNT series set for the early evening hours not saturday morning crap. but i'm dreaming, i know.

Yes you are because the transition from the big screen to small would lose allot.
That's one of the exact reasons I don't want the movie world to come to the small screen.

The animation of the movie would never be done on the small-screen. They'd lose far too much money.

Really?...why?.....Beast Wars did it for 3 seasons....as well as Reboot.

Id love if the cartoon series took on the CGI look from the movie....or at least something really close too it,since it would cost a bit more.

A weekly CGI series is not going to be anywhere near the quality that TMNT was. Beast Wars and Reboot, if you look back, were not that amazing to look at. For their time, perhaps, but even still, its expensive to generate the images so fast and so often.

Well Beast Wars is one of my favorite series...but ya,by todays standards the CGI is not mind blowing....but its still fairly decent...I have the DVD's.

They aren't going to fork over the cash to make the show anywhere as close to how good the movies cgi is.

I do not mind one bit if it is not CGI like the movie. I like the 2k3 animation fine.

I just want a good plot. NOT "Alien Hunters". That would have nothing to do with what Kevin and Peter created. It would be even more different from Mirage than what TNM was.

Well no one knows for a fact that any alien hunters will even be in the new show at all.
But as long as Peter Laird is the head hancho of Mirage you can bet that there will be sci-fi elements throught the series.

Sci-fi elements are fine. In fact, I like them.

But devoting a whole season- or worse- making the series be totally now about- hunting aliens? I think not.

- It's not what Mirage is all about.
- It's not what the OT was all about.
- It's not what Archie was all about.
- It's not what the movies are all about.
- It's not what the first 5 seasons of 2k3 and FF were all about.

So why ruin such a good thing?

Hunting aliens sounds a heck of a lot like what HALF of what seasons two and three were also, in fact, both seasons closed out on alien-themed storylines as well as opened them, not to mention you yourself admitted in another thread that "FF was a good concept, just had poor episodes", so the pot's calling some major kettles black here

CGI series is such a horrid idea, CGI cartoons all look like garbage in my opinion.

But I also don't want them to try and use the CGI style turtles in a 2-D cartoons. Look at the comics for the reason behind that. It doesn't look right to me.

A weekly CGI series is not going to be anywhere near the quality that TMNT was.

Which is why I was glad that Buzz Lightyear of star Command was just 2D digital. I would never have seen Pixar be able to make 65 half hour cartoons in any quality similar to their movies. And if they went with another studio, it would look like crap.

I would HATE to see a TMNT show with the quality of Viva Pinata's animation.

2d animation is what I like also and it's what the turtles have always been why change something thats fine the way it is.

So I guess we totally forgot about this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=pmrLh6QFvB0) then.....

I shall totally agree there. I do say that FF was a good concept, but a really poor execution.

But I will say there's a difference between Utrom/Triceriton aliens and the Polariszoid type aliens from the first cartoon... it seems that Alien Hunting in this concept is dangerously like that. If there is one thing I did not like about the old series (and this probably is the only thing) was the first half of season 3 with random weird aliens coming about and dropping some Doraemon-esque gadget that goes haywire. I could easily see Aline Hunters being that. or the lame Monster Hunters stuff they did halfway through season 3 and the first half of season four. I liked the Bishop pretending to put the president in danger to get funding for his alien hunting bit. But the rest was pretty dull....

Scandia

I agree that most filler episodes in the OT involved either aliens or mad scientists.

And the problem with CG cartoons is that they tend to be all style and no substance. And I am using style loosely, because to me they are very often not aesthetically appealing. I like humans to be proportionate and look like real humans- not to be super deformed.

Well that's exactly what we'd get on a weekly cgi turtle show on 4kids.
And yes I'd like to since it's horrid and never went anywhere and is a clip but thanks for the nightmare fodder.

If you all thought Mirage was losing money already, wait til they make the TV show CGI. First, there is no way they can make the movie style CGI for a TV show without forking over major dollars, simple as that. Secondly, someone said it before, TMNT has always been 2D animation for the TV shows, so why change. Lastly, wasn't the CGI TV show already piloted years ago and shot down? Granted, the CGI pilot is what led to 2k3, but 2k3 was 2D not 3D. I wonder why.

I know I'm likely to get shot down for this and told that I'm closed minded but I really don't care for the look of CGI. People say that CGI makes things look more realistic but I really think (especially with people) that it makes things look more artificial and fake. When I'm watching CGI, sure I get a more demeicioned look but at the same time I feel that I'm watching moving plastic dolls rather than other actual people. In 2D animation sure its not supposed to look like real people but I get a better impression that what I'm seeing is "real" and I'm more pulled into the world that the plot is trying to set upas an actual world. Even when the animation is done very cartoonish style, when its 2D I find it more realistic than if it was CGI.

Also I think characters particularly human ones to look much better when it is cell/digital animation style rather than CGI. Like the human characters from the movie Shriek, although had that realistic human look and was well rendered, I thought they wheren't as attractive as they could have been if it had been 2D animtion. Just my thoughts.

Not so... if they do it lousy enough (4Kids, remember) they could do it cheaper in CGI than they could with even the 2-D one. What would be horrible is if they make it Flash like Chaotix is. It was cute for those little Incredible Crash Dumm-err...TMNT shorts they made to sell the dumbest toys Playmates came up with. But if they make it a show... well... Homestarrunner has nothing to worry about.

I like CGI, myself... but in small doses. i LOVE Pixar's stuff (Incredibles, Monsters Inc, and Ratatoullie especially) but not every studio is Pixar. Some people see it as a novelty to make money off of, some see it as something more. Unfortunately, most see it as the former.

I do enjoy CGI, as I enjoy all forms of animation. I only really have a preference for Clay/Stop Motion... mainly because it was the hardest danm kind of animation I have tried. And I thought drawing stuff over and over was tough.... jeez.

I think CGI if done right works (like the new TMNT movie. They could never have done it otherwise, and they might as well make something all CGI and not CGI with live humans, which is the worst of both), and if done wrong... well you get Shark Tale.

But to bring back the earlier point, cheap lousy crappy CGI is just cheap enough to do, that local car dealerships and Get rich quick scemes can use them for advertisements.
