Are you talking about the images of the turtles with the mystic markings on the "blog"? Why would they redraw the characters if they can just use the stock images and add some wavy lines? These people have dead lines to meet! Plus I'm sure it eases confusion when the designs are sent oversea to be animated.

Good show--at first glance I think the only ones missing are the Shredder's season 3-4 armor (the one briefly seen in episodes like The Darkness Within and Bad Day) and the Shredder Clone with the claws. And if we want to get reaaaally specific, Saki in his business suit (season 3) is missing as well. Still, this is quite cool. Thanks!

ETA: Oh, and you also posted the Exo Suit Shredder twice.

BTW, let me extend my gratitude to you for processing the last few 'songs' correctly. The first couple of Lost Ep clips hurt my ears. :( They were loud enough that the waveforms were clipped, which causes distortion no matter how low you turn the volume on it. The last several sounds were perfect though. :)

The new logo is'nt bad, and we get another look at April and Casey again. I still don't think they look too bad either. Can't say I'm really diggin the new lair though. Just too bright and FF like for me. These guys are Ninja, and I would think they(especially Splinter) would just prefer something toned down and simple.

Yeah, it only makes sense for Donatello to pimp out the lair with 2105 style tech.

Anyway, I don't know how I feel about the new designs for April and Casey... they're so... different. Especially April. It definitely seems they're incorporating the designs from the fourth movie somewhat.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll feel much more like April and Casey once we see them in action and hear the familiar voices.

I'm really looking forward to this reboot of the show. I likr the look of the new lair. Much better than the lair at the end of season 4. And the news that it will receive a shadow treatment is excellent. I thought it was a mistake to air the first 3 eps of Fast Forward without full shadow treatment and details applied, as it suggested the show would be less detailed that it ultimately was. Hopefully, the new season will start up looking as good as possible.

And April and Casey don't look bad, just different. The colors are richer than the first preview I saw.

yeah. It seems like they knew the entire time that they were gone. Probably went to see them one day and they were gone. For as much as they travel/go fight...that might happen a lot (april/casey go visit the guys and no one is home) but you'd think after a year of no one being in the lair you'd get a little worried.

I think the bolding of the letters takes away, but I definitely think the dripping of the paint added a nice touch. Evens things out or something...can't quite put my eye on it.

Considering TMNT: Back to the Sewers is a semi-relaunch of the cartoon series, and the first new post-movie TMNT toon, will there be any attempt on 4kids part to hype the series beyond just kids, perhaps promote the show at comic conventions in similar fashion as Spider-Man was? For a comicbook based series that has produced nearly 150 episodes and that has lasted for five years, TMNT 2K3 has a very low profile amongst comic and tv circles.

Hey, I like the new lair. It is very futuristic, but the design is actually pretty interesting. It's weird because we have 4 turtles who live in the sewers with god knows how they could afford much of anything let alone the most futuristic stuff known to man. But also cool because the design is very striking. It's the most interesting looking turtle lair I've ever seen. It really jumps out and grabs you.

Yeah, you're basically right: if the turtles left, say, in September 7 2007, they'd return more or less in September 2008. What we don't know is if this was a conscious decision or accidental--in either case, I don't think the turtles will actually try to return to the exact moment where they left off, so that means that their return will probably mean the end of their time travelling, at least for the moment.

Actually early production materials did not have Leo with the piece of the belt that went over the shoulder, and the only differences between the turtles in black and white were the shapes of their eyes. Mikey and Don and rounded eyes and Leo and Raph had "angry" eyes.

You will see in the coming weeks however that to distinguish them in these types of line ups they gave them more "in character" poses. For instance Raph is cracking his knuckles, where we see Leo here is in more of a "take charge" pose.

No biggie. I just have this weird thing about overuse of the word, "dark", in that context. At least my hate for the word, "y'all", isn't so unreasonable. :P But, when asking for news, you should be as specific as possible to avoid being given the wrong impression.

The angularity is more obtuse, and they don't have the breathers. Otherwise, it's reminiscent of the budget-cut that lead us to Fast Forward. How's that for an unbiased opinion? ^_^

Not bad, although I prefer the original 2K3 designs the best. It'll take some getting used to for the pupils. I have seen that Leo way before on another blog, so not much new for me, but I am anticipating seeing the rest. Moreso I can't wait to see the model sheets for the other characters like Trax, LH, Usagi, Bishop, and all the newer stuff as we get closer to the fall.

I kinda like the pupils although to me Leo looks a bit... pointy? The angles are pretty sharp (I think he could hurt somebody with the points on the backs of his calves) but it still looks pretty good and they were kinda pointy in FF too so maybe it's just me. New animation styles can take a while to adjust to. But overall things look pretty good and I can't wait to see how it all comes out.

Well it's a secondary mutation but I've dubbed him Gameradon. Raphael in the comics has had a similar secondary mutation after being bitten by Vampires. He's been dubbed Gameraph (even Don to him at one point mentions that he felt like he was in the middle of a Gamera movie :lol: )

Anyways..the new look for Don... Love it.. LOOOOOVE IT... the colour to his eyes is a nice touch. The green eyes make him look like he's in contemplative thought about an invention or April or whatnot. They also seem to match his skin tone. :D

The extra padding on the bo staff is interesting... probably gives him a better grip on it.

the more I see of back to the sewers the more excited I get. Things look to be shaping up. I must say, I wasn't 100% on the pupils and I'm still not but the eyes don't look bad at all. It will be a nice change of pace.

I usually dont complain about the trivial things but the eyes are really bugging me. Its a small change but it still makes them seem less cooler and a bit kiddier imo. Besides that they look good. I especially like the weapons with the sleek ribbons/cloth.

Very nice blog, I think the new Don design looks really good. I think Leo's mouth is what threw me off at first because it's small, but now that I see Don's I think Leo's is just in that expression. Can't wait to see Raph and Mikey.

I sort of like Leo's mouth like that. Actually gives off the image of his character better. More uptight than before. I guess that could mean that they are leaving some room for character growth, but oh well. I think I'm reading into it a bit too much.

I don't. The padding in the middle would make it too cumbersome. That, and it doesn't appear to look like that when it's strapped to his shell....

ya know, I gotta say I was worried about the TMNT design. I was NOT a fan of the FF design but the BTTS designs that we've seen so far are actually really good. I'm impressed. It's got me super excited for the Fall.

Dudette, they are almost exactly the same execpt they aren't wearing futuristic gear and they have pupils.

I think the coloring and proportions are different than FF enough that I enjoy the BttS designs more.

I'm kinda hopeful that the sharp edges will kinda soften once the animation actually is shown, remembering back how they'd drawn the character sheets for the 2K3 stuff. Heck, we've all see now they had given Mike that crazy Gene Simmons-ish tongue in their initial drawings. :P Thankfully, Mike was relatively normal in the show itself..

I was just wondering why they didn't call him something like "Monster Don", since the whole point of the series is the fact that he and his brothers mutated to begin with.

It's funny you mention that, he is actually called "Monster Don" on the original design sheets - but someone here has the toy and I since they don't really call him "Monster Don" in the episode I figured give him his action figure name since more people would be familiar with that.

So any word on Don's bo? Why does it look different on his shell than than in the image of it alone? And how is he supposed to wield it with the thick padding in the middle? I know I can't do it - although I'm not a ninjutsu master, I'm pretty sure it would be hard even for Don-san.

The prop and character designers usually are working at the same time. Generally these guys talk to each other and have an idea of what is going on but once it leaves them it goes to the director. Let's say he approves the character design but then he may say something like "let's add a grip to Don's bo." well the prop then gets revised.

No one bothers to go back and fix the character design since that is A: More work and B: The animation team will only use the weapon design of the actual prop while the weapon seen in the character design in generally only used for size comparison.

This is generally why FF Leo's swords and Don's bo look different.

Are you sure that is not a goof on 4kids part? AFAIK, Klunk was created to be male in the Mirage comics.

I know nothing about any images that may have made it onto the 4kids site and happen to be using the same naming system as the images on the blog. (especially when the wrong image goes up with blaring mistakes! Klunk is a boy! ...and there are no pizza places near waterfalls that i know of in NYC.)

no kidding, stick it back in your mouth Mikey! :lol: You know I agree with who ever said that the BTTS turtle designs don't look that much diffrent from the FF ones. The only diffrence I see is their eyes are showing (which I don't mind) and they are in their pre Fast Forward ninja get up, and maybe their coloring is not as bright as FF. I kinda wish that Mikey had his blue eyes from the movie instead of green though.
