d) Cgi with Live Action Turtles (Sin City/300)

I would want live-action and use CG for special effects and stunt stuff, like the Spider-Man movies.
I understand that may not be financially feasible... wait a minute, yes it would be. I think the TMNT have every bit of potential to be a giant money-making movie franchise, but you'd need a studio that recognizes this potential with the courage to take the financial risk and understands that the Turtles don't have to be for the little ones.
If they made a TMNT of live-action summer blockbuster proportions, the audience would be there.
That said, I honestly don't care what the next TMNT movie will be - as long as it doesn't suck.
EDIT: The "Sin City Style" would be awesome too if they were directly adapting issues.

Didn't we already get a new movie? :P
I also go with "Live Action with CGI". The Live Action suits from the first movie had such a charm about them that you really can't reproduce with CGI. I think it would seem a bit more marketable then...you know, going against the whole "CGI IZ DA WAY OF THE FUTURE!!" thing Hollywood has going on right now. That being said...
...I honestly don't care what the next TMNT movie will be - as long as it doesn't suck.
I agree with Gordon.

CGI Turtles and Splinter.
Human actors for human characters- April, Casey, Karai, and the sort.

Suitimation is the best, but it also works very well in conjunction with CGI. Combine the two and you have a winner. With the rest of the world and characters being real.

Ugh! No offense, but that would be horrible. i'd rather see it all CGI, and not a bunch of CGI Turtles pasted in. Thank God they didn't do that. it would have been so artificial.
Personally, I'm going the None of the above route. I'm talking 2-D traditional hand drawn animation. maybe digitally colored, but a 2-D animated film. Maybe something allong the lines of Persepolis, having it all black and white like the original comics.

My dream TMNT movie would be in traditional 2D. Hopefully more like Gargoyles in look and tone than anime. Full animation and good color choices, etc. Though it would be cool to see what they could do in a black and white, comic-styled animation. The play of shadow/light could be freaking awesome. Of course it'd never happen because they'd probably want to make it cheap (and while you can do cheap 2D, you can't do GOOD cheap 2D).
Coming in 2nd place for me is another full CGI film, but with better character designs for the humans. Didn't mind the Turtles (though of course if I were in charge there'd be a few tweaks there too) but the humans really stood out the last time. (Oh, and it would need better dialogue writing, but that has nothing to do with the medium).
Live/CGI could be cool if done perfectly, but I don't think the current process has come quite far enough for it to work with Turtles. Remember, you're probably going to have to be able to shoot scenes with punks getting invisibly beat up, then be able to do the Turtles believably enough that they actually look like they're delivering the blows. Not to mention the human/CG character acting that needs to be spot on between Turtles/April/Casey. And the compositing and lighting that needs to be flawless so they don't just look pasted in (like the dragon looked in "Eragon" ...*shudder*) That would be expensive. TMNT aren't taken seriously enough in Hollywood for that kind of financial risk, and Mr. Laird's pockets probably don't go that deep.

Definitely Live action as much as they possibly can and add in CGI for certain aspects. I always think Hellboy is such a good example of what can done when you blend costume and digital.
If they couldn't do that then 2D would be my second choice, of course that brings up all sort of debate on what style to use.

If they did a live-action movie with full CG turtles, it wouldn't be invisible fighting. They'd put somebody there ala Andy Syrkis as Gollum.
doing half suit/half CGI would be the way to go in live action I think

This reminded me how much of a bummer it was that we didn't get to see the black and white testing version of the 4th movie on the dvd...supposively it looked awesome.
I'd go with either some nice hand drawn animation(black and white or color) or a big budget all live action movie.

Live Action with the looks and feel of TMNT1 with improved animatronics, original voices and original Case & Ape
if not that, full CGI like TMNT4 with the same feeling, more drama, and no dorky storyline

With the progress they've made in animatronics in the past few years, Live action would be AWEsome... :D
Having CGI characters talking with live people seems disconnected. The actors are talking to tennis balls on wires. You can't respond to the little quirks and body language of a CGI character. Most people can't act to open air, and get this glazed over look in their eye.

Unless they give a live action version a healthy budget, I'll stick with animation, I don't believe TMNT used the 3D CGI medium to its fullest potential, a 2D movie would be nice (one of the few mediums the turtles haven't explored, theatrically that is).
It would be really interesting if they went with both 2D and 3D, something similar to Walt Disney's Deep Canvas tech used in Tarzan, only with an urban setting.

There's also cell shading like Appleseed Ex Machina (excellent art direction, although with mediocre animation):

LotR -> Gollum. Problem solved. ;)It might be, if Gollum wasn't the exception to the general trend by being the only motion capture CGI character (IMHO) to really work. And it was only because animators were very involved in tweaking the performance. And it was freaking Weta. All of this equals $$$. Which goes back to the problem with the amount of risk Hollywood is willing to take for the Turtles. It'd be cool, but would it ever happen?
I guess one could ask the same question for 2D, and it'd be a valid question. But the good thing about animation is the control you have ever everything, as well as the ability to make a cohesive "look" throughout the film for all the characters, settings, effects, etc.
I guess the biggest problem with live action/CGI besides the compositing and acting and money is... how to design the Turtles? The "cartoony" limit for their look is probably the movie suits, or they won't match their universe. And what is "realism"? Skewing them more toward human (blargh)? Or more toward turtle? How to keep them looking "realistic" and still expressive and appealing? And how about animation... even the realistically-modelled Spidey looks fake because his swinging animation is too cartoony enough. What's the limit on how high the TMNT can jump, their speed, their flexibility, etc etc?
That's part of why I think animation is the perfect medium for 'em. You can create a world for them to fit in, instead of trying to force them into ours.

Yeah, I'll admit Gollum was a rare exception to a general rule that CGI and live-action usually don't mix well. But at least it is possible given the proper talent and budget. Anyway, I don't really care what medium they use in a TMNT movie so long as it's good. Having said that, a good 2D animated film with animation that's, like, five times better than the 2k3 show's animation would be amazingly cool.

CGI why have it any other way!? The movie was awsome and the fights where so realistic looking. Just tweak the designs on the turtles so they look less like claymation figures and it's a perfect medium!

I think live action is still the way, but I wouldn't mind if the turtles were CGI and the rest was live. Technology has come a pretty long way, but if the turtles were actors in costumes, I think Rick Baker or even Stan Winston would do a darn good job in realism. But I can't knock on what the Henson creature shop has done. Guillermo Del Toro or Peter Jackson would be a good choice for directing the movie.

As a no-good, no-account noob, I'm chiming in on this topic a good month after you all probably stopped caring, sorry...
I choose a) Cgi.
Specifically, I want to reiterate this:
CGI like the last movie
Now, I hate CGI. I mean I really, really hate it. The new Incredible Hulk trailer? I was in love with every second of it, and Edward Norton is my favorite actor and I was all set to endorse the movie all over the place... until it showed the Hulk. What a fake-lookin' mess.
It's kinda like this:
The problem with the Spider-Man movie was that when Spider-Man was swinging in cgi, it took you out of the movie, looked fake to me
I couldn't agree more. CGI in a live action context almost never works, and even when it (mostly) does work, you get the Uncanny Valley effect, where you're almost creeped out by the character's appearance.
When they announced a CGI direction for the last TMNT movie, I was all set to dismiss it as a failure, 'cause I hate CGI in live action movies, and it seems like no one but Pixar has had any luck with all-CGI movies on a consistent basis.
Still, I watched the movie...
And I maintain that CGI was the best thing they could have ever done for the franchise.
If you let go of your more visceral, knee-jerk nostalgic response (and I don't mean to offend anyone with that; that's the way I get about stuff :) ), the new movie really triumphs over the original live action trilogy on many levels. The CGI canvas liberated the writers in a way live action never could have done (and while 2-D animation could be similarly liberating, I suspect the results might not have had quite the same impact.)
Even just watching the teaser... the way the camera follows the Turtles as they dive down the buildings to the streets below...
As someone who usually detests CGI, I found the CGI approach in the last movie to be very exhilarating, and I'd love to see a sequel take a similar approach.

The CGI in Iron Man wasn't bad, I never thought it looked fake at any point, what did they do different from the rest? I'm talking about Tony Stark in costume flying around and all that.
You know, you're right; Iron Man was definitely an exception, and indeed at the moment I can't think of a single moment that looked fake.

True, but what many people don't realize about Iron Man is it was a lot of Stan Winston practical effects that drove the picture.
Live action all the way!! however the limitations posed by live action suits over come by CG often looks like crap. The trick is in the skill of the director and how much money is in the project. Some one noted the Hellboy series earlier. This is SO true. But again, look at how many suits there are! A lot! Batman begins, again looked AMAZING and made a bunch of cash for the franchise. That said look a these two movies.. BIG studios and most importantly two VERY skilled "art type" directors. Not really action directors either.
CG worked in Transformers and Jurassic Park because they were dinosaurs and robots, they don't move like people and we don't see them everyday. Gollum was a little demented Hobbit. Even though the turtles are turtles they are still too human to do CG with live action. Gollum was backed by incredible performance and money. Spiderman looked like crap but lets face it I don't think Sam Raimi cares a whole lot.
But in all honestly I can see them doing another movie, it will be CG like the last one because that's what this current studio has been doing, and no one cares anymore who really matters to put money into this. Mirage isn't going to do it or at least I don't see it.
COME ON I'm sure someone has connections on this board why doesn't someone report on whats going on in the world of movie 5 or send the people who matter the fan input so they make it better no matter what they shoot it with.

Yeah and that's one of my exact reasons for hating cg, it doesn't age well.
I wouldn't mind them using it if it looked good, but things like this just don't, I really think allot of places use it as an easy out.
They still need to study how some one in real life would move like that so it looks real, and not like a rag doll swinging and flopping around.
