Official Episode Discussion: "Web Wranglers"

Welcome, my dear readers!

Once more, I present a rough-and-tumble teaser with enough meat to sink your teeth into (or tofu, whichever your choose).

AS we saw last week, Shredder has been able to find himself the last information needed to make himself a web portal in order to come into the real world. And as all evil geniuses know, you don't just leap willy-nilly into a door without testing it..

So the turtles get to come out of the lair once again to deal with a mess of Shredder's test subjects. Mutants of every kind to run rampant in the city. Critters from all over the web - are we going to see the boys getting chased by those nasty aliens from Halo? Maybe some look-alikes from Doom or Quake.. more cameos of Moo Montana, and the C.O.W. Boys? who knows. What we Do know, is they're in for one hell of a fight. The chance of seeing Bishop in this (or any) episode at this point seems small, but we can't give up the idea. We're bound to see him at some point!

We will no doubt be seeing the boys delve into the cyberworld once more to stop Shredder from getting into the real world. While some still have a hard time warming up to the idea, we've been pleasantly surprised by most of the episodes so far this season - the entire work is better than the summary.

So consider these and other questions that may be posed to you as you watch this episode:

HOW WILL SHREDDER MAKE HIS CYBERPORTAL?!
COULD THE SHREDDER USE SOME OF SPLINTER'S DATA AS BLACKMAIL AGAINST THE TURTLES?!

Whoohoo! My first time being able to see the new 'toon (no CW at home - visiting family).

My first question is, why are Raph and Leo wearing unitards?! Ick!

This ep was like the old Playmates toyline, find a new animal to mutate!

It was a fun episode overall, decent plot, nice action, its just too bad we didn't see much of the Foot fight. I loved what they did to Shredder at the end, boy will he be pissed now!

Boy This episode sure has some eye rolling moments so far.
The Turtles wearing clothing for starters, I mean I know Playmates is trying to sell those Mini Mutants but I don't know it just looks silly animated.
Was I the only person the notice Mikey's eye color kept changing?
And until Don said something about it being digital I was like how the hell is that Rat Monster breathing in the sewage?
The channel 6 news thing was great, could have only been better had they made it a Vernon look alike.
So this episode is ok, it's progressing the story I guess, seems sort of wasted though know how many we have left.
Is anyone else still getting an old Toon vibe? I'm seriously getting one with this back to the sewer series.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed Donatello didn't make a comment or go after that Mutant Turtle.

Seems like maybe this won't be such a waste of an episode after all if Shredder is finally going to get out.
We seriously need a good old to be continued, I think it would do this show some good.
Wow that was great at the end, that deformed mutated Shredder was insane looking I think that may be one of my all time favorite scenes now from the show.
And when he flung Khan and the new Foot Soldier out Khan hit his head off the lamp post, I was shocked he wasn't knocked out.
But now Shredder is back inside, leaving me feel as if this was indeed a wasted episode even with all the action and that great scene.
Oh and Shredder making that Exodus comment, reminded me his memory wasn't saved around that time period so I don't believe know knows all of that happened.

Hardly, at least with the old toon and Archie comics those mutants had personalities all their own.

A plot hole (How was Don able to tell the rat was digital so easily? And then figure out it must have come from a picture from a nature website?) Maybe more time passed than what we saw in the show.

Pretty entertaining episode. Not absolutely as amazing as it could have been... and that extreme sports crap was so forced into the script. But we're definitely building up to something (too bad next week's episode seems like a FF concept they had left over).

I really wish more time was spent on the Shredder being a monster thing and rampaging through the city, instead of the last couple minutes of the show.

Anyone else think the giant Turtle was close to a Tokka reference? I mean, he had spikes on his back.

And I Just loved seeing that reference to channel 6 news.

Awesome episode today!

I liked how Leo said how he felt so useless! 'Bout time the writters let the other turtles how they feel about Master Splinter. Also nice to see some leadership from Leo again.

While this was a good episode, it reminded me of Good Genes from season four. What also was simular was the old TMNT toon. I almost laughted during the whole channel six reporter news.

I don't know how the shell they are going to wrap this series up in just four more episodes. Not only do we need to Cybra Shreeder to come back, but also Ch'rell and Karai.

Hey, I wonder how 'George' will get along with Kluk, LOL! I doubt we will see George again, but you never know!

Nah, it looked like something for Fast Forward season 2 (or 3... I'm still confused about that). If it brings Shred head into the "Real" world, I'm all for it. But it's territory Duck Dodgers did a buzzillion times better.

Not much to savor from this episode although I did like the King Kong and mutant turtle jokes and there were some nice moments from Leo (I'm STILL waiting to see Don in his stealth suit, urgh!) Hopefully Don upgraded their cyber suits after last episode.
Next week's episode though, as I mentioned already catching a sneak peek of in the "Identity Crisis" thread, looks good. Yes it looks filler but it also looks like it's going to be as hella funny as a "Supernatural" filler! Raph having to play as the court jester cracked me up and it's only going to get more funny when he turns into that frog! :lol:

These episodes lately, while entertaining, aren't furthering the story any. I was half-thinking Shredder would return to reality, but if he did, the Turtles could get the rest of Splinter easily without a threat in the cyber-world. So I have a feeling Shredder won't return for another four episodes.. Also, weren't we supposed to see Usagi this season? I can't remember.

The other thing weird about this season is no mention of Bishop or Karai (ok, one cutscene). It seems that they've fallen off the face of the earth, just like Leatherhead and Fugitoid.

This was a really good episode I'm not a fan of the cyber stuff I mean Cyber Mutant animals coming invading New York is well its not a really cool concept besides it was a recycled plot that was done better with Bishop on season 4. We finally get to see the turtles fight the new foot ninja it took what over half the damn season to show them. I also like the fact the Turtles felt more in character Mikey wasn't overly stupid in fact he was awesome the whole way through for once. The guys actaully felt bad for not being much help in finding Splinter and are actaully concerned. I liked some of the mutant animals they look creepy I especially loved the monster turtle now thats what a Dark Turtle should have looked like. Wished the Monster Cyber Shredder lasted longer it was also really cool. Also no Serling. :D

Now what I didn't like was the fact that this episode didn't advance the plot at all. I swear almost nothing from the main plotline has been advanced. What is everything that actaully matter will happen in the last two episodes? If so thats going to be a mess. The extreme sports gear was lame I dont mind them getting some exersise and and having some extreme sports fun but that was way to forced. Really thats about it.

Anyone else love that Khaun killed his Cyber Clone so ruthlessly that was awesome.

Very good points Shred Head you nailed this episode (even though I particualrly didn't like it)! As for the last sentence, it really does look like that dart than Khan shot his doppleganger with was poisoned. I hope that's the case as well b/c one's bad enough. :(

Interesting ep. Don found a way to defeat the creatures a bit too quick IMO. But I love it when they wear their ninja outfits. Especially Raph... :evilgrin:

I found this episode very enjoyable. Kahn getting thrown out actually looks brutal. I love how they went into detail showing everything he hits on the way down.

Don's intellegence has been so ridiculous throughout the show that a 637 IQ is actually the most plausible explanation we have...and it's still ridiculous.

Anyway, I slept through the TV premiere this morning, and I've only seen the first part on a certain "tube" so far. I've really enjoyed the first ten minutes, though.

This episode was pretty good, I think. It started out kinda poorly, but ended up redeeming itself. I guess it was a good thing that I didn't expect much.

The mutants were kinda neat even though they had somewhat of a cyber aspect. In a way, they reminded of something I'd see in a B movie, especially because Mikey referenced King Kong. Plus, the scenes where the Turtles encountered the mutants made for some good action.

All in all, this episode felt above average and the humor was nice. The cyber aspect didn't bother me as much as before, so that was relief. Next week's looks like it'll be decent.

Another episode that did absolutely nothing for me. And from the preview, I can name 437,598 things I would rather do than watch next weekend's episode. I believe this series is officially dead now unless they REALLY impress me on the final few episodes. And.....they were in their black ninja/cybernaught uniforms again during the fights. Well, I'm back sooner than expected. I'll post a poll asap.

Now, while watching, a thought came to me. Shredder was taking pictures from the internet, sending them through his portal, with an end product of a solid physical form. If they were able to take a picture of Splinter while on the cyberside, couldn't they make a REAL copy of him and send it to the real world?

It seems that this could have been a major step in their mission - They may have just destroyed the one thing that could have brought Splinter. He wouldn't be a fully organic form, however... perhaps this is why they did not think of it? Perhaps the digital darts would have been too much of a danger to him. Or, if they had continued getting his parts from the internet, they'd have to face the idea of killing off one of their Splinters.

This question becomes a bit of a Frankensteinian moral dilemma. Would their copy of Splinter be a true living thing, or just a copy with no emotional memory?



In all, I found it a mediocre episode that really didn't push any storylines. I would give it two out of five stars. They missed an opportunity to do something to create some new interest and maybe even a little controversy. And after seeing the preview for next week's 'jump in a videogame' episode, my guess is that we'll be seeing some new lows in the season...

I remember an uproar over a couple of episodes of the 90's X-Men.

I chuckled at the "chipmunk" (Overlooking that it's actually a squirrel...;)) swimming around in whatever suspension Don had it in. Though the argument that a fully-formed creature wouldn't be dart-able is rather silly... either way, it's still data, just well-formed data instead of bad data. :|

I'm starting to be quite convinced that Karai has a BTtS design solely for that tiny cameo she got earlier on... and even then, half of the appearance was reused footage. I'm pretty sad, but I guess they wanted to make the Foot more accessable to people new to the show, who wouldn't necessarily know who Karai is. Perhaps the same goes for Bishop; they feel like their stories are too complicated to reintroduce? Their positions are too ambiguous, maybe? It seems like they want more black and white "good and "bad" this season, though that doesn't explain Baxter's somewhat ambiguous position earlier on... I don't know. I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not holding my breath.

Machias has some good points about using the Shredder's portal to bring Splinter back; but yeah, as you say... it's not quite the same as actually recovering him (especially if it didn't capture everything that makes him him, so to speak), and if they did later on, they would find themselves with two Splinters. That... would be awkward. :lol: Though it does open up new possibilities... transcendental lathe that can make organic creatures? Or maybe it always could do that...

Raph must either be a good guesser or he's exaggerating like he does quite a bit. Like I've said about Don, he could rule the world due to how smart he is (so why hasn't he?) After all, Adrian Veidt, was the smartest man in the world in the Watchmen universe and he did it. Does anyone know what his IQ was?

It may have looked like a preview from FF that they used to show but I'm gonna be real honest here, I still enjoy Fast Forward more than this rushed wasted mess they call a season.

Before today the highest IQ I've heard in an animated tv series was Sailor Mercury's, which is 300 (she only attends school to help her friends. *L*).

IRL the smartest person I know is my cousin Tanner who's IQ was registered at 172 when he was 3 (he's now 13).

Im thinking that Raph definatly was just spouting random numbers. Don's IQ is probably around 200. Da Vinci and Michelangelo Bounarati's were 180. Albert Einstein's was 160. Both Einstein and Michelangelo are believed to have had Aspergers syndrome.

But man with an IQ like that Don needs to join Mensa, the Genius Society or heck...he could become the 27th member of the Mega Society. :lol:

This was a good episode (kinda boring at times) While I cringed during the first three minutes (turtles are not meant to wear spandex :sick:), there were some funny moments. I was most shocked when Khan "killed" his cyber clone!!

Next weeks episode looks hilarious!

I saw the 7 minute preview at 4KIDS. Raph joking about bein Orcs and Don just standing there all serious was just great. I love how they're dressed up: Don as a wizard, Leo as a furry animal shifter, Mike as a shining knight and Raph as a jester is just too funny.

Loved the Bugs Bunny reference Mikey made. It was used on two Bugs Bunny cartoons; a 1961 short with Daffy Duck (The Abominable Snow Rabbit) and a 1980 short with Marvin the Martian (Spaced Out Bunny).

Gotta like the opening scene after the theme, where Raph, Mikey & Leo sported clothes & rode their vehicles. The only one who really wore a Spandex was Mikey. So cool! Mikey's the Turtle!

If he did that, he'd have to either wait too long for the transfer to complete or leave a vulnerability in cyberspace as he pilots the thing via remote access. As was seen, taking over Baxter was already unsuccessful. So, he doesn't care to try that option again.

Shredder SHOULD have came out of the cyberworld in this episode. If not, somehow in the next one. I can't say that this didn't help further the plot, but ending it the way they did really was a wasted opportunity.

Plus, there really was the potential in a brief Bishop cameo... him popping up and saying, "I thought we got rid of all of them!!!"

It may have looked like a preview from FF that they used to show but I'm gonna be real honest here, I still enjoy Fast Forward more than this rushed wasted mess they call a season.

I understand what you're saying... this season started out really strong, but the last few episodes just seemed off. Especially next week's, which is exactly like the Halo... errr... Helix episode from FF. Only thing I think this season really has on FF is they planned to have a lot more structure. Too bad they blew that structure lately.

While that would seem the logical answer, don't forget about all the stuff he's been able to do throughout the series that would support Raph's big number--after all, 200 ain't 637. Still, with all the stuff he's done, you'd think he wouldn't be beaten by a virus a week ago. :lol:

Like a Johnny Depp rolling down a hill in chocolate, this just got better and better...:P

It was off to a 'meh' start with a few recycled themes, such as the XTREME!!! sports bit, the mutant animals and the monster-hunting, but those bits could be forgiven for the kick-ass fighting and fairly decent blend of action and comedy...as explained...

Positives:

- Leo commenting on the Splinter situation was a nice lead on from the previous episodes. After Don's epiphany in 'Hacking Stockman', it was a good touch of continuity to have the others acknowledging that not everything is back to normal and Don is still working his shell off.

- Something finally died! This may sound weird but I always thought that one of the defining points of the first five seasons was that it showed some realism - people die, it happens. I know it was only a mutant rat (a non-talking one) but still...the only way is up! :)

- I think the writers must have had a movie night recently! I loved the Ghostbusters-style scanner that Don had :lol: And did anyone else think Silent Hill when the mutant Shredder went all red and wibbly? Great little touches, even if they weren't intentional.

- A fair bit of action, particularly at the end. Plus, all the guys were involved so Don wasn't left behind to man the phones :)

- Mikey and Raph seem to be getting back on track with the humour side of things. Maybe they locked Serling in a cupboard for taking all the best lines...?

Not-so-positives:

- I'm not sure whether this episode was a nod to the previous ones or was simply a recycled plot? Having Monster Don's distant cousin and other mutated animals turn up made me smile, but the whole thing merely reminded me that this simply isn't as good as season four...

- I wasn't entirely clear on the whole Real vs Digital thing. If the chipmunk was real, why didn't it drown in that tube thing? And how did Khan take out his double? Did he steal Don's darts? This didn't bother me too much because in all likelihood, the rules will have changed again by next week...a benefit of making it up as you go along I suppose...:roll:

- They didn't need black suits before, so why now? It makes them look like the Michelin Man dunked in tar...

- In season one/two, they rode bikes, scooters, etc...without helmets. Again, I say - why now? Has being in the future made them safety conscious?

- And finally, I'm sure Leo is not going to leave his scooter outfit in the school locker room so I don't think he needs his name sown on the front...:roll:


So, in conclusion, a pretty solid episode, let down by only a few daft moments. Hopefully the plot will begin to pick up soon and we'll get to see some more action coupled with a decent storyline.

Or failing that, the Turtles will become exterminators for the City....:D Good work if you can get it...

This episode was pretty good. All the mutants were interesting design wise, too bad they only had a short amount of screen time. I wonder if they'll keep 'George' :P. Also Mike seems to have gotten a lot more active in this season in terms of what he contributes to the team. The scene with the Foot HQ getting destroyed thanks to Cyber Shredder made me feel bad for the Foot Soldiers... Any way next week looks...intesting with Raph wearing a Harley Quinn cosplay. :lol:

I was wondering why Leo wasn't acting himself a few episodes. It's bit on the late side to explain he felt useless for not helping out finding Splinter's bits. Okay, at least I know now.

I believe Donnie's IQ is 637. He's a genius, how many people has his knowledge?:-)

I found it neat that Leo used his scotter as a weapon against that digital mutant mouse.

If that mouse was digital how could it die at all? :???:

I love it when they jump the rooftops, so glad BttS has scenes like these, feels like 2K3 again, including buildings or stuff blowing up.:-)

There's something about extra legs that gives me the creeps. I feel sorry for those clone animals who look more like a huge twisted version of themselves. It reminds me of this hybrid bug I saw 2 weeks ago with too many legs.

Was that that mutated turtle an alligator snapping turtle?

I guess all the clone animals are going to a zoo.

I knew Don was going to something to Cyber Shredder's portal, but I didn't know he was going to digital that way and destroy it.

Mutant Cyber Shredder was plain weird.

It's a good thing the TMNT stop Shredder before he came to real world. Don't just love those hero speeches at the end. I'm glad Leo's going to act like himself again.

So, this episode ends with Shredder throwing another fit about Turtles destroying his plans and he'll plans making them part of his Exodus.

This was great episode, although I like last weekends better. The Turtles eyes kept changing colors again, I guess I gotta get use to that happening.

This was an okay episode, but it wasn't that great. The mutants looked cool as did the outfits and weapons the Turtles sported. I liked the fact that Mikey came up with the plan, proving that he can be useful when the situation calls for it. I also was glad that Leo explained how everyone felt useless in the search for Splinter. This proves that they do want to help, but they don't have the knowledge to do so and they want to stay out of Don's way so he can do this himself.

I loved Mikey's quote about the squirrel. That was cute. So, Cyber Shredder was defeated, but now he's gonna enact revenge. Doesn't surprise me any. My guess is that his revenge will be enacted in next week's ep, which looks okay, but I'll have to watch it to really judge it.
