I would've thought that they'd put a ban on ordering multiple books, as no doubt that's where some folk will buy from and sell them off at extortionate prices. Maybe a two book limit? Not that it really bothers me, as I already have mine. And I guess i'll be holding onto my extra copy for a wee while longer now, as reckon I won't get much for it now :lol:

They may not be denoting print numbers on these. I just looked at my "first print" copy that I got at SDCC the day they came out, and it doesn't say "first print" anywhere on it.

I suppose it is possible, but without a print denotation you would never know the difference. Unless they actually changed something in the book. But somehow I doubt they would go through the trouble what with Mirage being in a ramp down mode.

This isn't a second print. They can't do one even if they could 'cause of the franchise sale. I wrote to Dan asking where these came from. It was from the initial print run that got lost as you'll see in my email I posted.

Just a heads up. I talked to Katie from Mirage and she said that they had gotten about 800 of these in. That was last Tuesday. I would assume a decent amount would still be available since the occasional reader of TMNT doesn't know about the Mirage site, and our purchases more than likely were for smaller numbers I would assume.

Thanks lilmotto. I was wondering about this as well and thought it was something I should'a asked Dan on the email. I'm estimating based on the Diamond Dist. numbers of this book sent out to the comics stores was 872 for last July, if I'm not mistaken. Seeing as how Mirage did overprint the book, for Mirage staff (I'm assuming) and the Mirage/TMNT website to sell some copies, I at least say anywhere from 900-1000. Now with this extra 800, that print run could be at least be up to 1700-1800 printed. This is my guess, I'd think this isn't too far off. These numbers are pretty close to what the average comics publisher does thru Diamond generally for their trades and hardcovers, except for Marvel and DC. These numbers are also close to what a Marvel Masterwork and DC Archive does. As those are aimed at hardcore comic audiences only. With the TMNT not big among comics stores I'm not surprised at my estimate. As the Collected Book is only aimed at the TMNT readers and most of us have snatched it up, I think Mirage may have these for a little while. The print run overall is still pretty small by my thinking.

In a way, i'm quite glad its not as 'rare' anymore. I had preordered a copy from Paneltopanel with the lovely bookplate. Then my LCS* got one in, which I promptly picked up. Plan was to give it to a close friend of mine - he got me quite heavily into Doctor Who, lending me and in some cases giving me DVDs of the old Doctors. I had been lending him some classic collected comics (Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, etc) and really wanted to get him into TMNT. But didn't wanna give out all my issues, or even my pretty battered collected books. So when this came out, I picked it up to give to him as a gift. Then when I realised how rare this was, how much it was going for, etc, I was in to minds to still give him it or to stick in a pile i've got marked 'rainy day'. (i.e if I ever go through a rough patch for cash, or see one coming up, its a wee pile of stuff i've got to sell to make some, quick like.)

Now that I guess its not as rare as what it was even a week ago, looks like I can go with my original plan of giving my pal the book instead. To be honest, i'd feel a bit guilty selling it for so much, I hate being a dick.

Going from Dan's post they got ~24 books in (3% of 800 = 24) so maybe they sent those books to the first 24 people who ordered.

I got the last "official" copy Mirage had in stock, and I ordered mine the second or third week of November, so that gives you an idea of how long they've been out of stock at the office.

Well the book is rare again. Remember Dan said not even 3%, so it may be less than 24 copies. So the print run is probably back to what I thought it was. Must be around 1000 or less copies printed. I did. The international order was $50 instead of $38, and that included shipping. I have ordered from them before, and as long as you don't order any merch, you get your stuff just right. Shippings are expensive, but the price for international orders of this book included the shipping cost.

I'm £35.00 over my bank limit,(seriously, how the hell do they think anyone can go six weeks without a pay, over christmas?!) so i'll probably get hit with a charge and i'm getting a crappy wage tomorrow (i'm on commission, and we just went through the quietest time of the year).

Now this went for $50 US shipped to europe? I'll sell my spare for $75 US. Its got a crease going down the spine, which was there when I got it, and if that seems a bit expensive? You should have a confirmation receipt in your email, so check the time the email was sent (since it was automatatically generated when you placed the order) and make the necessary time zone conversion and see if it adds up.

If so, then maybe you'll be one of the ~24 to get one.

You should understand though, there are people (like myself) who check Mirage's various sites everyday so while you feel you may have been one of the first the speed of the Internet means you may have actually been number 78.

If you can't get one of the books then order something else. They have the Farley-cover collected books, which would get you the first 24 issues for about the same price (note: looks like they only have books 2 - 5.).

I really like those hidden turtles Farley painted into the scenery. :)

Ok, so I checked my order and it says it was placed on January 12th, not 20th, at 9PM (spanish time). I've done the time zone conversion, and assuming I've done it right, that means my order was placed at 3PM Eastern Time. I can't tell for sure that I was one of the first, since I haven't got that info really, so if any of you guys ordered before, please let me know.

Venom, the thing is that I was at the Mirage site when the book became available (I check that site several times a day too), ordered straight away, and came here to make a new thread to let people know about it, so they could order it too (then I saw RossMay's thread, and posted there, only seven minutes after it was created). That has given me the idea that I must have been one of the first.

Also, people like for example lilmotto, who ordered on the 13th (obviously one day after me) will receive a copy of the book, and that probably means that he was one of the first 24 or so (we really don't know how many were available).

I received the refund last Wednesday, and wrote an e-mail to Katie straight away to see if it was an error. I wrote to Dan too to let him know, just in case he could help me. He's written me back saying that he's very sorry, but there's nothing he can do about it, wich I kind of expected. Still, he was kind enough to write to Katie himself, but she hasn't written me back yet (I believe she won't do it until next Tuesday at least, wich is when she works).

I already own those issues in a couple of spanish editions, but I just think this book is really nice and I really wanted it. Sooo glad you gave the heads up Ross! I ordered the 12th and it arrived yesterday. I was bummed from not having ordered it earlier but I'm happy now.

That was the good news from my order. The bad news is their packing job is awful. I ordered several comics including the mirage mini comics book. Someone had the bright idea to place that little book inbetween everything else so now one of the comics I ordered has a deep ugly indentation the exact size/shape of that little book all over the back cover. Another book I ordered was also placed with the front cover folded so it has a big crease line running down the cover. :(

My brother just got his copy in today. It went really fast thru the mail. Its says it shipped on the Jan 26th and it showed up today and I'm in Canada.
The book was in good shape no problems like the above from TMNT Gal. I still can't believe my brother got a copy. I don't look in the 'drome boards til later in the evenings (like 9-10:30 PM) and when I told my brother Mirage had it available again, he was contemplating about ordering it. It was like close to midnight when he told me to order it. So due to how we went about ordering it, I can't believe he got one. Then I saw the bad news about the lack of "thought stock" from Mirage within days and thought we might be getting a refund. Then it showed up today. What was odd was I was given the USPS track number and everytime I ran it in the USPS website, it'd never acknowledge it. So we were weary if we were still getting it or a refund on the way. I just can't believe the flukey luck that my brother lucked out on the last few copies Mirage managed to get. After reading about the timing of orders from other 'drome' posters and their refunds, I'm still shocked we got one. His book is in better shape than mine. Mine had a light dented bottom right corner and the bit of scruffle on the cover surfice. This is how it came to my comic store thru Diamond Dist. Comics. His book has no such defects. Argh!

I would say that's highly dependent on whether or not Viacom gives someone else the opportunity to reprint the material (assuming there's someone out there who would want to). 90% of the value of these things is based on the inability to walk into a bookstore and just buy one. If that can ever actually happen, the value then falls to pure collectability and someone's desire to have a specific printing.

The price of getting a collected volume one isn't gigantic. The price will still probably be double the retail cost at the very least for the limited numbers of each print. My 1988 version has been around the same for some time.

Indeed that is what I mean. A kid's orientated version of their product through a third party is the likely scenario having seen the type of product in that category. Nobody will have much interest in publishing old Mirage work as well as Viacom. They are going to want to stick to their product and if anything milk nostalgia from the popular version.
