Can't say I like his designs too much but I also don't hate them, i kinda did at first but they already grew on me a bit. Its obvious those are NOT the designs for the new cartoon but if you look through his blog THAT is pretty much his style is so expect the new cartoon to look similar like those examples above. Those designs do look like they'd work for CG.

You can tell he is a big fan of the turtles from his past posts from previous years, went all the way to the first blog post...And wow this news is from July 31st how is it that took so long to get out? Internet detectives are disappointing us ;)

Oh thank goodness, I'm not the only one. I just don't really like his style, which is the thing I love and adore from cartoons, the art. I could actually sit through a cartoon with bad writing if the designs for the characters are good.

I really hope the writing staff isn't filled with "old school TMNT fans". I really love the art and I think it'll translate well to CG. Cartoony stylized stuff like that would work really well and would be different.

Yeah like I said in my post those are not the actual designs, however if he'll be designing them you can expect a similar style since that is pretty much his style as you can see from his blog and other stuff he's drawn.

Yeah it was a joke that is not April, though a lot of artists do tend to have only a few female designs so I wouldn't be surprised if thats how April would look like.

This also does not mean we'll be seeing OT characters in the new show, thats just what he drew, though I think we are all expecting OT characters which I am more than fine with that. I am pretty excited at the thought of having an OT cartoon done in todays standards. The OT is a great show by itself and the 2k3 show is also amazing at giving us a more serious take, but I'd love a more serious take on the OT universe, less goofy but not straight serious like the 2k3 show, its also the best way to follow up the 2k3 show, if we got another dark show it'd only be compared to the 2k3 show like The Batman was with BTAS and fail if it isn't as good.

By old school do you mean Mirage or OT fans? Counting how long ago the OT came out its very likely a lot of people working on the show grew up with the OT.

It would be good to have someone who is a fan of the Mirage comics though so we can see some influence from that too and not just OT stuff.

I don't see why, maybe in the 90s, have you seen Avatar The Last Airbender? its nothing like what you'd expect a Nicktoon to look like in the 90s. They have Dragon Ball zKai, a new Voltron show and Power Rangrs, Nick is clearly aiming for a boys market and not the general kids audience from the 90s or the spongebob/sitcoms of the 2000's.

And yeah, I've read enough of your posts to realize that there will never be a cartoon or movie or any media whatsoever that you'll enjoy well besides the Mirage comics already printed. :P;)

Well that's interesting. I like most of his drawings. The ones I don't like are Krang, April, and Bebop. The rest are fine, the turtles look more Mirage-ish which is a plus. Most of those he did a long time ago though before he even knew he was working on the series so you can't assume these will represent the final product.

As long as turtles doesn't end up looking like, or sounding like, shows like Danny Phantom or Fairy Odd Parents. I can't stand the coloring and angular style of most modern toons. It's too bright and flashy. The angles just look horrible. Fast Forward and BTTS was as far as I need to see the turtles go down that path.

Alex is a (I believe) colorist at Nick currently, and has been for quite some time. So until he shows up *hint hint* and elaborates on what his involvement is...I would assume he would also have coloring duties.

I like the Turtles, Casey's, and Shredder's is okay, too (and okay, so is Rocksteady's), but Krang's, Bebop's and April's (who honestly looks MORE like Angel from the 2K3 series, in away) are HORRENDOUS! Still, I'm lovin the fack that Alex is on board for this! He's a GREAT director, and, AS a fan of our beloved Boys in Green, I have absolutely NOT doubt that he WILL do them justice.

Although I'll HAVE to be brutally HONEST with everyone: I really DON'T like the idea of basing the NEW series on the classic one. As much as I DO still love it to pieces, the 2K3 series, even with Fast Forward and Back to the Sewer, is by FAR my fave between the two, and what I would VERY much like to see is a pleasant blending the Red Sky Season of the OT with the 2K3 one.

And what I MEAN by that is not so much bringing Dregg and HIS bunch of morons or Carter into it, as much as the CHARACTER designs of the boys, which I loved a BUNCH!

Also, ONE thing that irritated me about the OT, once the novelty of it wore off, was the "We're a cartoon series, we darned well KNOW it, and we ACT like it!" schtick. Even MORE annoying to me, after awhile, was Raphael's "breaking the third wall" (i.e., talking TO the viewers) thing. Didn't like that AT ALL, and I liked it even LESS in "Turtles Forever". (And if you'LL NOTICE, HUN agreed with me in that ONE part of the movie!)

ANOTHER thing, or more correctly, CAST members that I sincerely hope DON'T come back are the following:

Krang
Bebop
Rocksteady
Robot Foot Soldiers (use HUMAN ones! Those things are STUPID!!!)
Any mutants BESIDES Leatherhead (the one in the 2K3 series, NOT the Cajon nutcase from the OT)
Vernon
Irma
Burn
Zack and his older brother Walt
The Nuetrinos
Any of the mad scientists that poppped up during the course of the OT

Aaaaaand I think that that's it.

Oh, and I would like it VERY much if they would stick to Master Splinter's TRUE origin as Hamato Yoshi's PET, and NOT as Yoshi himself. As much as I liked him in the OT, I thought that turning the human Yoshi into the mutant rat Splinter was rather silly.

And come on those breaking the fourth wall jokes where classic. Rob Paulsen really pulled it off. I was watching the first turtleoid episode, and Donatello was getting all sappy and misty eyes over some bullsh*t (can't remember what) and Raphael turns to the camera and says " if he starts singing, I'd advice you to turn over to another channel" which for some reason slayed me, because it was somthing of staple of 80's and 90's cartoons for the characters to suddenly break into song in moments of emotion. That's what made the old toon great, was how it poked fun at it self and made tongue-in-cheek remarks about the stupidy in other cartoons of the time.

Well I think when most of us mean we want it to be based on the OT we don't actually mean having the OT like it was, but an updated version. No longer the silly show it was but take the characters like Krang/Slash/Rocksteady/Tokka/etc and write them in a serious manner. Those characters are awesome and deserve to have a more serious take on them besides the comedic original show. I mean do you really want another show based on the Mirage comics? We just got one and a great one at that, and unless it was much better than 2k3 it'd only be seen as the inferior show not to mention seeing storylines we just saw done again.. This way we get something entirely different from 2k3 and even of the 87 show, it'd use the 87 characters but won't be a comedy heavy show like the original.

I sorta like the designs he did for fun, but they strike me as the kind of art that would look way better in motion than it does still. So color me interested to see them if they are used, yeah.

Well since it prob. is the pilot (i'm guessing) might just be next year. I remember seeing the Misadventure of FlapJack's pilot episode like a year or less before the show even came out. I don't think anyone actually knows.

Can't wait to see some sketches though of what the newer TMNT show will look like, and I super can't wait to see some cgi images of it. It is going to be CGI still right?

Nothing's really been said one way or the other since the very early reports. I'm starting to think otherwise just based on my gut. We'll just have to wait and see.

We've had Mirage people and guys from 4Kids on here before. It's cool that someone from Nick is here too though. Nice that we still have someone who wants to hear from the community.

I've thought about it myself. Looking at his finished crisp artwork it wouldn't be hard to translate it into CG. Looking at his sketchbook stuff, though, that wouldn't translate so well unless they overlayed it with a cool "sketch" effect like how the Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV intros have that "ink" effect.

Now that I think of it, CG "sketches" would look super awesome in motion! It would give things a comic-esque feel and something not quite "gritty" but not quite crisp and clean. As I said before, I really don't like the idea of mutants, ninjas, and aliens fighting in the sewers having a clean look to it.

And you what it be nice, if the new show would sorta give a nod to the mirage series by having all of the turtles wearing red masks then after the first episode switch individual colors when each of the turtles developed diffident personalities.

These are not concept sketches, they were done for his own amusement, prior to him being a part of the series.

If Toon is the head character designer (as far as we know he could just be "an" animator), I'd prefer his more realistic-ish approach, like with that Casey. Stuff like his not-April is a bit too out there... with those sunglasses, she like looks like a Grey. One can expect some stylization in cartoons but the ones with like sandwich noses and chins the size of larger U.S. states just bug me. It's why I felt the art style of Back to the Sewer was slightly lacking, because you had things like Hun with a huge torso and legs that couldn't even keep Kate Moss standing.

Both the original cartoon and vanilla 2K3 had good character art and designs on the whole, and I hope that this one follows suit.

No question the guy is talented, not to my taste for tmnt precisely, but his artwork is done with skill. I think the series may become more "Nickified" by which I mean blocky - exception - Avatar: The Last Airbender. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, that show rocked and I won't hear otherwise (now if Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko were involved, I would be :D)

I feel like this about 3d style, it's just hard to get right without the time and budget. I guess Nick have both on their side for this though.

Hey guys. I work at Nickelodeon on *ahem* Fanboy and Chum Chum. They had a studio screening of the TMNT pilot in full color animatic form. I can't tell you much about it because I don't want to get fired, of course. Here's what I can tell you:

-The show will be in CG. They showed us a little test clip of Leo swinging his katana around. It looked amazing.

-This is a big reboot. They are not afraid to change things drastically to make the story they want to tell better including character relationships. This is a completely new Turtle universe.

-The show has found a really nice place between action and comedy. The action is impressive and the comedy is truly laugh out loud funny.

-This version of the turtles focusses far, far more on the "teenage" part than any other previous versions of the turtles. This is a good thing. It really brings something fresh and new to the concept.

Bonus info: I watched this sat next to my Fanboy and Chum Chum director, Mr Ken Mitchroney. He agreed, "they nailed it".

I can't really answer more than that, but having been a turtle fan since 1987, this is exciting stuff.

I can confirm that the fan art OMW posted isn't what the designs I've seen look like. That's just nifty fan art and nothing more.
