When I was a little kid I had a little white girl that was a friend that I met one summer at a public pool. My mom was able to get me in a program for disadvantaged kids to get free swimming lessons. We got so close to each other and we hung out almost every weekend. The neighborhood I lived was mostly poor kids like my self and when they would see my friend get dropped off by her mom in a nice car and see me play with her in my back yard, they started picking on me. The other kids would say, "oh, you think you're white now" or "you think because you hang out with her you're better than us." It got to the point where when the neighborhood kids would see me coming they'd be like "oh look whose coming" and stuff like that. I'll regret this forever, but I stopped hanging out with her because of this and ended our friendship. I remember she cried when I said I didn't want to see her anymore.
Anyone one else here do something lousy or stupid to another person you regretted?

Who can honestly say they haven't done something they regret? I've done plenty...though nothing really similar to what you describe. (I wasn't ever relly driven by peer pressure as I was generally the "leader" in my circles of friends)
The main thing is to learn from things like this.
I was actually just thinking of this thread an hour ago. I read the title yesterday, and was all prepared to post a smart-ass remark in response to it. Then, I read your post, and I changed my mind immediately. That would just be heartless. So, can that count as my regret? I don't really have anything else... unless you count things I didn't act on (missed opportunities).

Oh wow....that blows. It's funny because my story is really similar. In middle school I dated a mixed girl (black and white) who looked white for the most part, and I got alot of crap for it (i'm black btw). We went to a majority black school and the kids would say things racist things about us but for the most part I just ignored it and went on about my day. Then it would pick up and they would ask things like "A black girl not good enough for you?!" and stuff like that, but I never really understood it. We hung out alot out of school and in the mall kids would say things about us or we would get dirty looks. Being around 13 or 14 at the time it really started to bother me, so I called it off (STUPID STUPID I KNOW!) so we stopped talking and seeing each other for some time. We eventually got back together in high school, but I regretted breaking it off to begin with because I really liked her, and that time apart really killed me. But you do get older and learn to not pay attention to stupid **** like that though. Ah well, live and learn......live and learn.
I regret nothing! Can't be living in the past!

Without getting into a religious discussion, all I'll say is that if there is a Heaven, I'm pretty sure I'm not on the list. And I have a hard time believing that even an all-knowing God would be able to forgive me for the litany of offenses that I can never forgive myself for.
So yes, I've done things I regret, and no, I won't spell them out because one or two people here still think I'm a good person and I would like to keep it that way.
Yeaaa... I'm pretty sure everyone has some regrets, along some line or another. Me, I have a TON, and nearly all involve some combination of:
1. Girls
2. Booze
3. Sex
And most of those regrets involve how I treated the first on my list. I'm alot better now, but still not where I'd like to be.

No one is 100% without regret, just a question of a lot or a little, and people can change their mind about it sometimes---they can regret something now and then years later decide their glad of it instead and vice versa. Regret is a despair from one's own choices I believe. I don't much to despair over, and most of my despair comes from situations where I didn't have a choice in the matter, where it was out of my hands and not my fault, it was either someone else's fault or nobody's and just a bad hand dealt by nature. I have more contempt than regret.

Sure I do. Mostly nvolving what Terminator said. I love this quote,
''Good judgment comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment''.
Live and learn. Sometimes we gotta do the wrong thing to appreciate what is right.

Mostly I regret being so lazy and wasting time, which isn't nearly as interesting as the previously mentioned girls, booze, sex regrets.

i should have gotten my degree by now. i been lazy on that. although i have had a lot of training and certifications and actually have the credits to receive my 2 year degree in computer science. i still think i been lazy about it. that on top of the fact that the military is paying 100% of it and i shrug it off like a lazy bum makes it worse. I'm in Michigan, which has the worst employment rate in the country and have an arts degree. So I'm in paralegal school living off loans. It's not a good way to live.
Oh yeah. I've got regrets. Mostly it invovles not being nicer to my sister when growing up.
1. Girls
3. Sex
I could totally live with regrets like these. ^_^ But, playing the nice guy 24/7 doesn't garner a lot of opportunity for that. :ohwell: I'd just rather have respect for myself.

When it comes to regrets I'm way more in the "Should have" camp as opposed to "Shouldn't have."
While I realize that every mistake I made in the past as lead me to where I am now, I can't help but mentally kick myself every now and again for not sticking up for myself in the past the way I would today.
I tried my hardest to not do anything that I would regret later, but I'm pretty sure the ones I would regret, I forgot about. I'm just too careful with myself.
Can't say the same for the rest of my family, though... :|
Many, but this one is currently with me- I went back to school to study, and started seeing some-one in my class. Bad idea.

Not taking the oppurtunity to get to have said things i'd always wanted to say and ask questions iv'e always wanted to ask to friends and family that have now passed on....
Other than that I have no regrets. I have had regrets and have done stupid things I have regretted... but looking back... that idiot i was in the past is omeone I had to be in order to become the person I am now. I am now happy and loving my life... and if having to have those things happen in order to be where i am now... i regret nothing.

I regret a lot of things. But as PlastronCafe said I have a lot more on the should have list than shouldn't have. Being the youngest of three children growing up had a lot of perks. Mine were getting more attention and seeing my older siblings screw up in ways I would never allow myself to. I guess the one I regret the most is:
Not being a better brother to my sister when my mom had a miscarriage. My Mom went into a catatonic state for like a week and my sister had to practically take care of her when my father wasn't around(She was 12 I was 7) and I could have done so much more for both of them. But since then I always try to be there for them. Especially during my grandfather's death.
Everything else seemed necessary for me to grow into the person I am today.

That whole "hostage" situation when I was 19. Sure, I wasn't totally responsible (all I did was provide the fruit), but I could have stopped things when they got out of control and didn't, and all those dogs (and that man) died as a result. I still have nightmares sometimes.
I've tried to live my life without regrets. Unfortunately, I don't think I did nearly a good enough job.

the only regret I have. Either then that, live and learn!

Oy, talk about opening up a can of worms. I guess my biggest regret by far was not talking to someone and getting help for my depression until recently. It's taken many years from my life that I won't get back, hindered my education, thwarted my success and influenced a lot of decisions in my life that I also regret, including not attempting to repair my heavily damaged relationship with my father, now deceased.

No regrets... except that one. She was nice.
No, seriously, if anything: taking a lot of years for granted without spending a lot of time with my dad before he was gone.

I'm a pretty sassy person (hence the "sassy" in Sassygal ;) ) and I have no problem standing up for myself and anyone I care about when people are running over them emotionally or verbally, or just taking them for granted and needless to say my mouthiness has gotten me into a LOT of trouble over the years. But the one time I held back is the thing I regret the most and it involved my in-laws. I wanted to avoid causing issues between my husband and his parents, but my lack of self-defense has done more damage than good so now I have two in-laws I don't like and that is just awkward for my poor husband.

this is same with me :tcool:
Mostly I regret being so lazy and wasting time,
yeah same. i've got the "if only i'd have studied more and done better in High School, and not been lazy, then maybe" regret.
also, three years ago when i move to Toronto. god i loved being/living there and trying to go to school there, but i regret not trying harder and also regret not thinkin it through better. sure the experience was sweet but not "being in debt for nearly $20 grand" sweet :tsad: :toops:
i also do regret sometimes losing my temper and being a bit of a douche myself sometimes on certain message boards & forums, but hey, to error is human
Well, this regret kinda haunts me every once in a while... There are at least two instances I can recall where some absolutely adorable young woman I was palling around with just threw herself at me, and I was so oblivious that I didn't realize what was happening until well after the moment was over.
YA HEAR THAT, FATE? I FIGURED OUT YOUR PATTERN. THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM. i WON'T SCREW IT UP AGAIN. ;) ^_^

Something that exists, so people like me can be reminded before it's too late. Thanks.
I have tons of regrets! Overall, I am optimistic about where I am today.

Am I wrong for chuckling at that? Because I did, and I have no regrets about it!

Jesus, you can't even get a simple idiom right. I hope you regret that, too.

Hey, don't be so hard on him. It was an honest mistake. We all know what he meant though. And he's right.
There are things I've regretted but I just move on and try to be better. That's all I can do.

I regret many things. Some of which I won't get into, because I'll really get the business more than I already get from some of you people here. Here's some:
1. Those school tests that are non-subject like state test, placement test, and IQ test. I was so board of those tests that I zipped right past it just answering any old answer to get me to be finished. The regreat out of that was that I ended up in classes with the idiots and losers.
2. Sometimes my temper caused me to have to replace some things. That money for those replacements would go well in paying off my credit debts.
3. Speaking of being angry. I don't remember what the arguement was about, but I remember having a nasty arguement with a friend at the customer service section at Circuit City to where it got physical. Nothing happened out of that, because we both left when the customer service person yelled "security!"
4. Not paying attention to a Sears mechanic when he changed one of my tires about a second tire that needed to be changed because the bedding on it had thinned. Well, later that summer on the way back from a hiking trip to a state park 130 miles outside of Chicago, my front-driver tire exploded at 75 mph. I and a friend was stuck on the inner shoulder of the highway miles away from anything. Thank God that an Illinois State Trooper saw us and helped us change the tire.
5. 9 years ago, I said something to my father that got me very close to be kicked out.
6. I established credit, and I failed to go by what I told myself about credit "don't pay for anything unless you have the cash to pay it off." I got caught in temptation by those charge cards, and now I just want to get those cards out of my life, and cancel them.
Any more things. And to those who say they never regretted anything: everyone has done something wrong, humans are not perfect. I perfer not to be perfect, because the last guy who was perfect got nailed to a cross, which started Easter.
