View Full Version : If Michelangelo does not use nunchucks in the new show, will you be angry?

I want to make a poll just to see the general consensus at the moment. For those of you who saw the first artwork of Nick's TMNT, Mike seems to once again not have his nunchucks.

I find it bizarre that Nick will not use them, when they will be airing reruns of the 4kids series on their network, and there's no way they'll actually bother to edit all of Mike's fight scenes in that series, so either way people will see Mike twirling chucks around on Nick regardless.

I don't like this one bit. Kids growing up with this incarnation of TMNT will not be aware that Mike is supposed to have nunchucks. He at least had them through 4 seasons of the original series, the videogames and old movies.

How do you feel about this?

I picked nr3. But really I don't care that much, this early. It's a new version of TMNT, a whole new reboot, fresh universe a different continuity.
Bit surprise he's the only one who gets a different weapon, we'll see when the show airs. Maybe he'll have chucks despite the artwork.

This is a bit overblown

I voted quite pleased because there wasn't an "indifferent" option. Yes it will be different to see him without the 'chucks, but from the videos I've seen the kusarigama operates similar to the 'chucks. And it still looks wicked, so yeah, not a big deal here.

Option #4 - It doesn't matter at least the show is moving forward.

The biggest Issue have with it, is hoe playmates are gonna make the weapons in toy-form. A toy Kusarigama need a chain (or string) to function.

It's too long to be in solid plastic like the 'chucks, and rubber was just not working with the chain weapon to the dark Assassin figure

I am somewhat surprised by the lack of outrage actually, and I do wish there was some so maybe it'd get the point across to Nick that they are important and not easily replaceable. I mean I'm sure a lot of discussion went into replacing his chucks and doubt we'd see them for a second season but hey we could at least try. I'd at least hope that we get to see in the new show that Mikey knows how to use chucks, whether we see them in the background of his room or maybe in a flashback or an episode where he uses them.

I think the fact that they gave him a badass weapon did make it easier for people to accept the change, also the fact that people expected the turtles to look like Rugrats for some reason and they don't so they don't see it as big of a negative. I already posted my opinion but yeah I'm upset and wish we'll get to see his chucks even if its in the background or one episode but the fact that I like his new weapon makes me not mind as much not to mention I really like the designs otherwise. I voted for very upset but thats only because I'd like to see them eventually and hope this isn't the end for Mikey's nunchucks forever but for the most part I'm ok with the new weapon.

Well for Bandai's Knights of the Zodiac figures Andromeda's weapons are chains and they did make some plastic (or light diecast?) chains, it worked very well. I don't remember if they were diecast or plastic but they worked excellent.

I hate to have to say this, but somehow I doubt Nick would care that much if every single 20+ aged Turtles fan was outraged and frothing at the mouth. We are not who they are selling the product to.

We used to have Mirage to write to and while it didn't change things, it at least was "a person" that was listening to us. Now we are have this huge corporation and while I am certain they appreciate we love the guys us complaining about something isn't going to be more then a blip in there radar.

I personally am happy the franchise actually looks like it is being taken seriously. I can't say I am cheering that changed Mike's weapon, but what if they change his weapon and then turn around and make him slightly less goofy and more like Mirage Mike... would the weapon mean as much to you then??

I can see Mikey fans getting upset, but to me it's not that big of a deal. My issue resides in how the writers fit the weapon change into the story and how they utilize his new gear.

Also, I think it's important to remember that just because we do not see nunchaku here does not mean that he doesn't have them in the show. You're basing this assumption off of one photo...

I couldn't be bothered if Michelangelo used a jumprope in the show (I'm not watching), but it just tickles me that they swapped out the chuks.

So... why did they give Mikey a weapon with a sharp blade.... if we know he won't be able to cut anything with it? It looks like the only person that will use his weapon to its full capacity will be Donatello.

and also, weapon change? how will it fit into in the story? This is a reboot. as far as they go, it might just be Mikey's weapon from day one, as well as the straps they all seem to be using.

BTW IMO with the small arms and legs and big hands and feet... they're the CGI movie turtles in cartoon form basically...

I kind of see what you're saying, as Raph is that weird off-color green just like the CGI. I really wish they went back to the old toon colors, where Donny was that brownish-green and they were each a certain shade.

Either way though, I was never displeased with the CGI Turtles, so I don't really care that they resemble them.

As long as they make an obvious nod or two to the history of Mikey with 'chuks (such as him stealing a Foot ninja's pair and beating their ass with 'em), I'll be fine with his awesome new weapon.

Isn't it a little early to complain about this? What if Michelangelo does still have nunchucks, but not in this piece of art?

Either way, I'm not the target audience for this show, so they can do what they want. The old cartoon and Vol 1 of the Mirage comics is still "Ninja Turtles" as far as I'm concerned. Everything else is gravy.

In for a penny, in for a pound, isn't it? You're not going to be seeing Leonardo or Raph stabbing or slicing anybody with their katana or sai either... should y'all start lobbying for them to be replaced with other stick weapons like Donnie's so as to make them all functional on-screen now?

I just saw some lady named God in a dream, and she told me that this show will premiere December 24th, 2012, and even went on to tell me that Michelangelo losing his 'chucks forevermore is why the Mayans decided anything after the 23rd to be "not worth putting on the calendar". Take that for what it's worth. o.o

I suppose I'd be disappointed if there weren't pre-existing Vol 1 canon supporting his use of that weapon, but since there is....this really doesn't bother me all that much at all.

If they can keep him from being Dude!Mikey, he can fight with ribbon for all I care.

Viacom may be a big corporacion and the show is theirs however the show isn't being made by Viacom itself, but producers and other staff and they do listen to fans, feedback and whatnot even if we are not the target audience. Lets not forget Panthro in the new Thundercats cartoon he got to keep his nunchucks.

Edit:Apparently from one of Alex's tweets we shouldn't be going all doomsday over the chucks, well thats a relief, I'm definitely extremely excited now.

Regarding the weapons, that’s just one of many images that was used for the composite. Don’t get your panties bunched, it's ok. Promise.
Incidentally, what kind of sense would it make to "outlaw" two wooden sticks, but replace them with a swinging blade on a chain? Come on.

I think they should just take away everyone's old weapons and give them all bo staffs, ya know, so it's like the TMNT equivalent to "This is Spinal Tap" where they play a song with all bass guitars. Okay, so not really, but Mikey needs his 'chucks, maybe a minor detail to some, but it's the same principal as if you took away Leo's katana and gave him a bisento or something. You wouldn't take away the Green Lantern's ring as the source of his power, you wouldn't take Wolverine's claws and give him brass knuckles, etc. etc.

I'm frankly not that upset.

I mean didn't the Mirage turtles actually used guns at some point? And also Mikey was forced to use a grappling hook in the OT, he got tonfas in TNM, so if he's eyeing another weapon then its OK.

Not that I recall. I can't speak for vol.4, though. If he used a gun it must've been on some alien planet.
They never actually used "real guns" to my knowledge.
Don did have a cannon of sorts come out of his arm when he was a cyborg, but I don't think he ever used it in a fight.

Raph fires guns in Bodycount. He removes the trigger guard so his fingers can fit.

In RTNY they use a rocket launcher. In the Unmentionables they brandish guns but never fire them. Raph and Leo both use laser blasters in the bar fight on D'Hoonnib and I think later on against the Triceratons. In Terror by Transmat they also use laser blasters. Also in Fun with Guns Raph grabs a huge machine gun but doesn't get a chance to use it.

There might be more instances I'm forgetting but it has happened. Usually seems to be Raph that does it, which is no surprise.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

But, I feel fine.
Actually the Mirage Turtles started out with much different weapons. Michelangelo was armed with a Nerf dart gun (instead of "COWABUNGA!" his battle cry was "IT'S NERF OR NUTHIN'!!!"). Raphael used a pair of whirling spatula (which is the plural form of a single spatula). Donatello? Master of the Weed Eater. Leonardo, strangely enough, carried around a sack of moist pine cones and just belted the Foot clan with them.

Interestingly, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, and Santa Claus came to Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird IN A SHARED DREAM and gave unto them the nunchucks, sai, bo, and katana that we know and love.

So given that, I don't see how anybody would care what Michelangelo uses just as long as we get more of that sweet Turtle action amirite??

as for the topic at hand...cry me a f*cking river. So what. Maybe the show might actually create an intersting story arc for Mike involving the weapon issue, maybe he could start off with chuckes and for whatever reason decides to switch to a different weapon. Cause I put that era out of my mind, and when you were talking about the old cartoon, I assumed you were talking about the same instance of replacing the weapons.

Not to mention, didn't most of the turtles not use/have weapons in the NM series, anyway?

Nope, The other 3 still carried their trademarks, though modified and rarely used. Only Mikey again, got the shaft...er...tonfa.

Leo got a two-edged sword instead of two Katana swords, and Don' Bo was short enough to be a Eskrima stick, but it was supposed to extend to a full Bo lenght. But it's been a while since I was NM, so I don't remember if that ever happened

Yes, I will be angry indeed. Makes no sense to remove the nunchaku.

I'm not bothered or upset. Their should be another option like, "Neutral". I honestly feel this way. Oh, he doesn't have his nunchucks, they're cool, but weapon wise, Mikey's been getting shafted for years. What would make this time any different, even though it's surprising since you all said he had his nunchucks in the 2k3 series. Until it was mentioned, I totally forgot that he had Tonfa in TNM.

I guess you could just look on the bright side of things. At least his weapon looks awesome and cool. At least it isn't a lame grappler.:P

Oh, in the Turtles Forever special, did OT Mikey have his nunchucks for that?

yes he did. he threw his nunchucks to tear apart a fan that landed on Hun.

Yeah, OT Mikey got his chucks back for the movie.

Now there's more speculation when this happened for the OT timeline.

I woted 2, it'll take some time getting used to it but it's not the end of the world and I wouldn't mind if they switched weapons from time to time.

The biggest Issue have with it, is how playmates are gonna make the weapons in toy-form. A toy Kusarigama need a chain (or string) to function.

if that's all you're worried about concerning playmates toys, then you're in good shape.

as for the weapons- it's certainly cooler than a grappling hook. I didn't mind his use of the tonfa in Next Mutation, but at least he can twirl this weapon...

Oh there's a lot more I worry about with playmates, but that's material for a different story (thread)

I knew I missed a gag. I also downloaded the star of TV's Chuck...but didn't use him.

how is seeing the first Nickelodeon confirmed TMNT art , that has mikey without his chuck's , then asking 'Drome wide if it would upset people if he didn't end up using them,
jumping to a conclusion ?

If you look closely at the preview video, Mikey has chucks that turn into a Kusarigama. Same with Don's bo having a hidden blade that pops out to make it a spear.

I thought I was either the only one who caught that, or nuts. Good to see I'm not alone in thinking that's what I saw.

It's pretty f*cking awesome.

& I don't know about anyone else, but I've always HATED that.

It's just a wack and stereotypical way to exploit his supposed bad boy personality. :trolleye:

Well that and all the guys at Mirage are REALLY into motorcycles.

So we may not see them included in the TMNT universe as much if at all anymore.

:o  Jester, you are a trip.

I am mildly annoyed by the lack of nunchaku for Mikey, but I'll get over it, and I'm more concerned with the development of his character, to be honest. If they turn him into a childish dolt, I will rip my hair out.

I'm quite very please with the change. I would have been happier if the weapon was a genuine kusarigama (which is IMO one of the most bad@ss ninja tools in existence) but an add-on blade on the nunchaku isn't a bad idea either.
