So the Turtles aren't social outcasts living in the sewers anymore? Ugh, why did they have to put them in school?
Its like they're making it like those other superhero teenager shows like Kim Possible or the like.
Ugh, I can just see Mike taking a test and sneaking out the window to fight some baddies. I'm not a fan of the Turtles getting girlfriends either.

I can't help but ask this question to the folks who attended the Nick production:
"Did you think the voice actors of April and Casey sounded appropriate?"
I figure these are the only two main characters left since everybody has commented on Mike, Raph, and Splinter's VAs.

Joe -
I for one am glad to hear your opinion on the material you saw on your trip. What little I've seen that has already been released publicly I can't stand. It isn't the Turtles I know. The 4Kids' series before FF I love most and is my favorite, but I like the first movie and TMNT 2007 too.
Even if we are in the minority, I won't blindly accept or "get used to" such dramatic change when the original formula hasn't been wrong for 25 years. Until I see some sort of equally as dramatic improvement, I can not give support to this new show.
Because I can't "love" every single thing about the Turtles, that should not make me less of a fan than anyone else.

I really had high hopes, but now I have really low expectations for this show. I can't watch something that doesn't look good. It's what draws the viewer in. Not "Oh well this looks like it has good story, voice acting, and action." It's "Damn, this looks great, let's see if the voice acting, story telling, and action are just as good." So sorry Nick, as of now I am disappointed. I have lost lot's of interest in this show and hope it could still be saved with the more news we get.

There's a difference between "loving" every aspect of the franchise and seeing them all as different varying interpretations, good or bad. "Respecting" them is probably more apt.
FearlessLeader

I have no problem with people disliking anything, heck I can't stand certain part of the Turtles franchise, but it seems odd to me to completely write off the series without even giving it a chance or having seen almost anything.
I love One Piece, the first time I saw it I thought the character designs were odd and I didn't really like the animation, but the story drew me in and after a while I grew to love Oda's style. Sometimes different isn't bad.
If you watch the first episode next year and you hate it, that's perfectly fine (who knows I might, I hope not but I can't tell) but it's really hard to judge 100% either way without having anything concrete to base your opinion on!
Jester

Exactly. We (and that even included the selected few who know a little bit more) don't know what may change in the interim. Everyone just chill out and take a deep breath. Heck, maybe what Joe and the others saw as big minuses will be fixed by 2012.

I wonder if it have been brought up in any of the comics, besides for Eastman an Lairds early issues where they have long heels/back toe. I think the only other artist that I can remember having a long heel on the turtles are Jim Lawson

The physical visage of the characters that I've come to know and love over the last 20+ years is being destroyed. I understand modernizing, updating, and re-imagining, but this show doesn't hold true to any of it's previous counterparts.
With this, everything else you offer loses credibility.
There have been incarnations that I was less thrilled about in the past (Fast Forward, Next Mutation) but even those shows carry more of the essence of what the Turtles are than what I saw at Nickelodeon Animation Studios on Wednesday.
Also, with this.

Not only does he work there, but he was one of the crew involved in making the animatic of the pilot we saw.
Maybe the dealbreaker was Venus or some type of extra turtle or non-turtle female mutant that is part of the group in not a mentor role but a role in the layer along with Splinter. The fandom always seems to agree that they hate the idea of an extra mutant turtle like Venus added to the origin so I guess something similar like that could be the deal breaker.
Oh hey Joe don't feel attacked by the fandom, I think its good that they got a mostly negative opinion as well since different opinions are always more helpful than one over and over again, and hey if Andrew NDB had gone I'm sure he would have had more negative things to say than you.

On a somewhat-related side note, I don't know if the fans that came in were made aware of this, but the main reference for this thing, from day one onward, was a longbox containing the entire Vol. 1 run of the Mirage books.
I realize that the show is still in progress, but what we were shown (aside from a few visual aspects here and there) doesn't really reflect anything from the Mirage Comics, oh except for having the same title and the characters having the same names. If I had been told what the main influence was from the get-go I wouldn't have cared that you had to keep so much to yourself from the beginning! The rock'n'roll graphitti grit, the pizza references, and a longbox of Vol. 1 TMNT really sets my speculative radar in a direction that I'm really diggin'!
I know that this is new and different and I can't just say, "Oh, this is the first movie only in CG," but I really like Vol. 1, the first TMNT movie, the first NES TMNT game, the old Playmates box art, etc. A mix of those sorts of things are how I imagined things being when I played TMNT as a kid with my friends whether it be figures or playing outside. A similar mixture seems to be brewing over at Nickelodeon.

All I have to say is that this information is awesome!
Thanks to everyone that went giving us the impressions on the experience and what they can its appreciated. I am glad that Nickelodeon has reached out to the fans for input and to get some feedback.
I love the 2d art that is on the tshirts and the poster version of them in the alley. I would love to see those turtles animated in a traditional 2d show to be honest =)
I am a bit of a 3d artist myself, I am not honestly really super impressed with the models but I don't hate them. Maybe its the bright solid colors and Leo appears to have long legs, something I honestly didn't like about the TMNT2k7 movie figures. The 3 toes are another thing that I didn't care for but I could live with it if it didn't change. I would probably always think it looked odd tho.
I am liking Leos upper body, I am not sure if the shell plate is a little to thin otherwise its looking cool just lacking a little detail. I'll reserve my final judgment until I see them in motion and in a living world.
I am feeling overall pretty positive reading every ones comments, I was generally just hoping it wouldn't be like the original toon in 3d. I loved it as a kid especially the first season. But its very difficult to watch a lot of the mid to later seasons of that series mainly because of the repetitious nature of the story lines.
If Nickelodeon goes down the road of the comics and even if not direct adaptions but puts some new ideas and perhaps takes some different paths to keep fans of the material in suspense I will be really phsyched (eg. The Walking Dead on AMC). I wouldn't be totally against having some ideas/stories from other universes and new ideas as long as the core family and characters stay intact with what we have come to know over the past 25+ years.
If this show ends up being as good or better than the 2k3 show my hat will be off.

I think the OT gets a bad rap....it knew it was repetitive. I love just how wacky it was, and how self aware.
I am not trying to rag on the OT for what it was at the time I really liked it, as it introduced me to the turtles. After the first 4 seasons or so it gets to the point where the stories are almost the same every episode and it is hard to watch through them. The animation is also inconsistent imo.
Breaking the 4th wall and the jokes, the pizza and what not are great and what made that universe its own at that time. Also the fact that the villains were never really a threat and had all those crazy ways of trying to conquer NYC/Earth.
I'd prefer the new toon stay further away from the original if at all possible. I am sure there are people with differing opinions tho. It would be nice if this could become the definitive turtle series. I have a vision of how it could be and how I can see the potential from the early concept art.

And, like I've stated before, I'm not going to judge this show based on everyone's opinions. I'm going to wait and see for myself, though I am glad that we got some positive and negative feedback. I'm not too bothered by the bandages anymore as I'll get used to them. And the toes don't really bother me either. I'm more interested in the content of the episodes and the voices.

Yeah, I'll admit that I've been guilty of this in the past. And because of it I spent years avoiding "Avatar: the last Airbender" and books like Gaimen's "Sandman."
You know what else had hand and leg wraps....NINJA TURTLES: THE NEXT MUTATION!
I hate that shizz.
You know what else had leg and hand wraps? Short stories and pin ups by Mirage Artists.
Of course I'm blanking on whether it was Talbot or Berger who used to draw them that way. I think Berger.)
I'm pretty sure I had already seen that Mr. T/Don picture, weird.
Anyways the wait is going to kill me, even if we saw a small teaser a month back I highly doubt we'll see anything at this years SDCC, it won't be until next years SDCC more than a year away before we actually see stuff from the show. I wouldn't mind the wait if Nick had not started the hype wagon so damn early by showing us what is going on. Its both a blessing and a curse.

On a somewhat-related side note, I don't know if the fans that came in were made aware of this, but the main reference for this thing, from day one onward, was a longbox containing the entire Vol. 1 run of the Mirage books.
While that's cool, it's also worth noting that a large percentage of those are completely out of continuity with the Mirage universe. Saying "The entire Vol. 1 run", which contains so many different interpretations and variations (many inspired from the cartoon itself even), pretty much means it could be from anything.
Not saying that's bad - taking the best out of all the different versions of our fab four is surely a good thing. It's just that everyone disagrees on what's the best hehe.
So far, of what we've actually seen (which is extremely limited), I don't see anything that's turned me completely off yet. The third toe thing is just one of those oddities - on the one hand, who cares? It's just a toe. Sure, it'll look odd for a bit, but we'll probably get used to it.
On the other hand - why do THEY care? Why the hell would you give the turtles a third toe in the first place? It's like one of those things done just to mess with us fans, or changing things just for the sake of changing them.

You're right; should have specified more the E/L stuff. My point was that Nick has been doing pretty much exactly what everyone expected them not to do, which is acknowledge the roots of the franchise. It's new, it's different, but it's made of bricks from the house that Eastman and Laird built.

Whether it's the (roughly) 1/3rd of the series actually written by E/L or not, having Vol. 1 as the basis is really good! Most of my favorite Turtles stories are either in Vol. 1 or were inspired by Vol. 1. Some of those favorites aren't even E/L issues!
I'm stoked!

I haven't seen a whole lot of the Teen Titans, mostly because the anime-style animation isn't really my cup of tea and I'm not invested enough in the characters to overlook that.
Though, if this is indeed the style we should be coming to expect in the new Turtle cartoon...I'm more than willing to give Titans another shot.

If used as the occasional unstoppable force that can't be fought directly like in S1 or like how Hun was in 2k3, Bebop and Rocksteady have potential as characters in a Mirage-like take. As constantly-appearing bumbling idiots, I see your point. Heck, even their S8 appearances weren't horrible!

And let me be clear on this because I'm not trying to be the "meanie" of the group I just know what I like and what I don't like. I've also been a huge fan of a lot of Nickelodeons animated programs over the years, it just doesn't look like the new TMNT is going to be one I add to that list. But hey, only time will tell. I'm usually an extremely nice guy, but TMNT is my passion and I'm very stern in my opinions and thoughts that pertain to it is all.
Completely agree with you there. I'm the same.
That goes for me as well.
My apologies, I didn't realize you saw the first episode that hasn't even been made yet and therefore have the god-given right to judge it.
I have every right to judge. They put out the images and teaser clips for the public to see, so I can say whatever the **** I want about it. And I don't like what I see.
I can't believe how many of you are already jumping ship over a few images and vague accounts of an episode that hasn't been made yet.

Sorry, but I'm not one to follow others off a cliff. I'm not of the 'hive mind'. Ninja Turtles is the greatest passion in my life and sue me if I want to see nothing but the best. This crap Nick is putting out is not by a long shot the best.
Believe it or not, the first hints and images released of a show are often the most crucial. It is the "make it or break it" point for me. If it looks good, and something that appeals to me, I'm willing to give it a shot. Just like FF and BTTS. The first art generated enough interest for me that I was curious to watch it. This, however, generates nothing but the urge to flush it down the toilet and ironically rot in the sewers.

I watched all the episodes of both FF and BTTS and I can safely say that, yes, I was disappointed in them. There were a few good points throughout, but overall I just did not like either. I was never very happy with the angularness of the Turtles or the fact April was turned into a Bratz doll.

That actually happened to me in regards to the 2K3 show. Look at some of the preview art we got for the guys. The linework was thick and chunky, the guys all had these dark circles around the eyes, very angular - Mike looked like a psychopathic Gene Simmons with the whole tongue thing.. I did not like it. And yet, the 2K3 Series is probably my favorite one..
You simply cannot trust the 'preview art', because some of it's going to be older or some offshoot of an idea that doesn't get used, or the style of the at itself will change. More's gonna come... Nothing is set in stone.

Oh, they can be idiots. I don;t mind that. Let me put it this way.
Back in the old TMNT Coin-Op, Rocksteady and Bebop were pretty tough guys to fight on their own. When you and your buddies got to Rocksteady, you put your game faces on and took him out. When you got to Bebop, you really stepped it up to make sure you used teamwork or just ganged up on him and mashed buttons.
When you got out of the sewers and had to fight both of them, though, you and the other players got a collective "oh crap... get ready, guys...!" feeling in your gut and you knew you were in for a rough ride that you might not make it through. Sure, they were dumb and you could get them to charge into each other for a laugh, but beyond that they were a serious force out to drain you of your quarters and stop you from that goal that was so close you could smell it: saving April!
If Bebop and Rocksteady appear in the new TMNT, that feeling is what I'd like to see and feel. Yes, they're dumb, but they make up for it with their raw power and superior weapons. You don't mess around when these guys get pumped for a fight because you have to really buckle down and make sure you come out alive.

I hated the pilot animatic and was the only one to really hate it apparently... or give a multitude of negative feedback on it and I've really caught nothing but flack for that. It's not TMNT if you ask me, it's a goofball interpretation of what the TMNT have been in their glory days. It is claimed that the main source of the look comes from Vol. 1 of the Mirage Comics....I don't see it other than a few little things here and there, it's completely different from any incarnation thus far. I've stated and I'll state it again that I understand the need for updates and some changes here in there, but it broke my heart, I was expecting to be a little disappointed but it ended up effecting my emotions to the point where I wanted to cry, throw up, and punch something all at once. Theres a lot I could use to prove my point, however we're not allowed to talk about that stuff so I'm stuck looking like a jackhole. If the promo images bother you, the pilot episode would crush you that's all I will say. I have nothing but respect for the hardworking and talented folks at Nick but I'm done with my negativity for now, what I've said has been said, apparently my opinion has no validity amongst most fans, and yes I realize I expressed a few opinions towards fans that ticked a few of them off which I apologized for and will apologize again for because I was very upset, but I will not apologize for my expressed opinions on the pilot because I was speaking the truth (for me anyway). I wanted to like it so bad, but it was just one thing after another that tore me apart. Okay I'm done now I promise. Nickelodeon is awesome, the new TMNT show (thus far anyway) is not (imo).

Just because you're not part of the majority doesn't make everyone else sheeple. For years this place has been almost nothing but overwhelming negativity from frequent posters to the point that I avoided coming here for months at a time because I found it annoying. I was part of the minority that actually did something other than complain when it came to TMNT.
I never considered any of those people sheeple for their negativity, though. If anything, the fact that people actually have something positive to say for once proves that fandom isn't full of lemmings and are capable of really judging something based on their real feelings.
Case in point: Sonic the Hedgehog fandom. It's cool to hate everything even if it has redeeming qualities.
TMNT fandom is not Sonic fandom.
I don't care that you rain on everyone's parade. I don't care that it causes controversy and you argue it out. Like and hate whatever you want. However, we are not some sort of hive mind civilization and I don't appreciate being accused of such crap.

You're right, you don't have to accept ALL versions to be a real fan. Many dislike TNM, obviously. BUT to outwardly reject something before it's even out is ridiculously stupid. Whoopie, someone agrees with you. They're being ignorant. There are plenty of racists who agree with eachother, I guess that justifies their beliefs. Everything is speculation right now. No piece of art looks like another (except for cosmetic additions like wraps & a third toe). Yes, there will be things that fans don't like. Not everyone will be happy. Joe will like stuff I don't, I'll like stuff that Joe won't. And that's totally fine. That's the great thing about this fandom There's something for EVERYone. There are SO many facets...
There's too many people turning this into a battle of wills and cheap shots. It's gotta end. It used to be that we had Peter and 4Kids people checking out the forums. Now we've got Nickelodeon and Viacom watching us. They are looking for serious feedback, not just a bunch of "You're dumb!" "No you're dumb!" stupidity. They seriously are concerned about the opinions of the older fans. WHY do you think they invited ten of us out to California in the first place? It wasn't just to eat pizza and tour the building. They want to make sure they're doing this right. They're looking at EVERYthing.
I love all of you guys, but this nonsense of "Oh, it's crap forever" or "Oh, you're crap for saying it's crap!" "Lemmings!" "Sheeple!"... we go through this Every SINGLE TIME something NEW comes up.
Can we PLEASE not turn into the bastion of negativity that we are getting known for? PLEASE? Expressing opinions is fine, negative or positive. But we are All 'adults' here... everyone's in their 20s, give or take. I Know we can be more civil than this...

They can definitely work as threatening powerhouses that the turtles just can not compete against strength wise, luckily for the turtles they aren't the brightest of the bunch so they can use that to their advantage. Just don't imagine the characters as their OT selves of "Master shredder *snort* the turtles are escaping", they wouldn't be smart but they also wouldn't be comedic morons like their OT selves.

I at least gave them a fighting chance, which they for the most part failed....though as I've said the NM figures were pretty cool. They gave us Shredder's elite for the first time.
Then again with Turtle Christmas/Tunes I probably could have gone from screen caps.

Sheeple?
Eh, I did edit out the sheeple thing after it posted, but apparently wasn't quite fast enough before you quoted it.

Wow this has turned into a Turtle Civil War, break out kookie kavalry Leonardo haha. Anyway. It warms my soul to see that I'm not totally crazy and alone in my thought processes but it breaks my heart to see everyone in this massive battle of forum posts now. I realize that I said some things before that I had no right in saying aloud because I was feeling it in a fit of rage, but I wish nothing but for all Turtle fans to get along. Of course we have witnessed similar "battles" between fans of more recent but previous versions of the TMNT. This one will be no exception to the rule I suppose. We all feel strongly about our green brothers as well as their supporting cast of characters and everyone is entitled to feel and believe what they want. But I don't want us all to separate ourselves into cliche 80s rival street gangs over it haha

I couldn't agree more with this.
I like ol' Beebop and Rocksteady, but in their glory time within the first 5 episodes when they were kinda badass gun totin' hulking bullies, I never was a fan of when they made them total idiots that were terrified of the Turtles and had to put on wacky disguises and provide slapstick humor and I always loved their action figures of course, a couple of my favs actually. But I don't really see the point in bringin' back unless they're just brutal and relentless (almost scary) versions. It would be awesome to see a vicious Rat King. I miss the seriousness of some of the fight sequences of the classic Mirage Comics and some of the battle sequences in the first movie, especially the fight with Shredder it is intense so having villains that are a force to be reckoned with to the point where you're like "Are the Turtles gonna make it?" (even though you totally know they're going to) is one of the most important aspects to me. There were some great examples of this within the '03 series. So regardless of if Bebop and Rocksteady or the Rat King or Leatherhead or Mike Meyers are fighting the Turtles, it's gotta be gritty, mean, and it's gotta make you feel exhausted when they're exhausted from the heat of battle, I don't know if that makes sense, and this totally turned into a long rant about fight sequences somehow.....but there ya go.

I have to say I hope they bring back Rocksteady and Beebop, but revamped. I want them to be more like what they were in the first six episodes in the OT. They irritate the crap out of me at time in later seasons.
I want the to be BA,
-I dont want them to be complete idiots
-I want them to be a threat
-I want them to know how to actaully fight and not defeat themseles
-I don't mind them lacking intellegence
-I just thought they were a great dynamic duo, and plus I think they could bring comedic relief while still being a threat.

Bebop and Rocksteady should return as more competent but still stupid villains.
I don't see how they were bad at all. In the old toon they were constantly humourous, its just that they were overused in all the Shredder/Krang episodes.

Gee, this topic took a nosedive and exploded into a million pieces...
Instead of replying to anything directly, I'll just add this:
During the breakout session, the guy leading our group kept beating words out of us to describe what we each wanted out of this series. And what it came down to most for me was simply that I wanted it to be fun. And reflecting on the 25 minutes I spent watching the animatic, I had a lot of fun. Yes, there were parts that I wasn't too sure about and made me go, "hmmm," but I genuinely laughed and enjoyed it for what it was.
And I said something about this before, but the hints we got (possibly accidentally - not sure how much they meant to say or not say) about one particular story element are awesome. Like, amazingly awesome in a way that would never have been possible if Peter still owned the Turtles. Never ever ever ever ever! And it's that kind of potential and freshness that is appealing to me. I don't want the series to be like the Mirage comics, or the '87 toon, or the 2K3 toon. Been there, done that. I want something fresh, I want something new. And, for the most part, this is that.
I don't personally need this series to be good. If it is, I will be thrilled and gleefully enjoy it. But if it's not, it's no loss to me. I was pretty much done with Peter and Gary's BS, so if Nick hadn't bought the TMNT, I very possibly would have walked away from the whole deal. This kind of restart is exactly what I think the TMNT need, so despite hesitations on a few issues, I'm giving Nickelodeon the benefit of the doubt until at least the first episode airs.
But I am so buying the action figures no matter what. :tcool:

I agree with you to an extent on some of the BS that came later down the line but Peter was still on board when the '03 series was out, which really had some of the most accurate depictions of the original concept of what the Turtles were created to be. Sure they threw in Hun and Foot Tech Ninjas and so forth which I felt was kind of lame, then going into Fast Forward and beyond it got a little ridiculous. I agree with wanting something fresh and new, but not something that is a complete departure from what they became established as between 1984-1991. They became a cash cow within that time....why? Because they were awesome and spread into a few different forms within that time, regardless of it was the Mirage Comic version, to the Archie Comic Version to the OT cartoon version, to the first two movies they still kept a vibe about them that was worthy of adoration amongst many in a large age bracket, the toyline was amazing, the merch was amazing and so on. I can't imagine how happy I would be to see my 3 year old nephew, (who already loves the OT cartoons and the movies) to experience something similar to the magic that changed my life. Maybe that's wishful thinking. I can see where the new animated series would be entertaining to a child that has never heard of TMNT and hasn't even seen the 2003 series or the 2007 movie, let alone anything else. If people are okay with having goofy Ninja Turtles then so be it, the OT series was a little goofy with puns on occasion and as it went along got even worse with that. But what I saw was nothing but goofy. If you threw in some suggestive themes and coarse language.... it would make a great show on Comedy Central or Adult Swim, a style of show that I would normally enjoy, but not with my boys in green being the theme of it all, but that's just my taste. I like my TMNT lean mean and green.....and on the screen?

Yeah, just gonna have to continue to respectfully disagree with Joe.
I'm assuming the show really is a lot like Teen Titans, wild over the top comedy but its actually genuinely funny and tons of action to go along with it. So this is why Joe would not like it, TT had a very love it or hate it attitude towards it and it would also explain why the others liked what they saw since they wanted something new and this is something new, with TT you either got it or you didn't and some people just couldn't look past the character designs/anime expressions and over the topness that made me become a huge fan of the show and like I mentioned the show still knew how to be serious and have amazing action scenes. Someone from TT is working on the show so thats my guess based on what I've read. Personally I can't see the turtles like TT was but then again I loved TT so I'm probably good.

With that said, I don't want the Nick series to be like the '87. Like Rose said, I'm looking forward to "something completly different."
Quick question: Was the original Mirage series "funny" aside from the parody premise? I mean usually the best satire is played very straight.

The Mirage series was mostly intense, dealing with real problems to total fiasco scenarios, it had drama and the fight scenes were drawn intensely, occasional jokes were made and sure a few experimental issues were thrown here and there closer to when the animated series came out where the Turtles looked kind of spastic and cartoony but it didn't stay a complete and new formula for the books, the Turtles were drawn by various artists and they had different visual incarnations in said books as the years went by but for the most part they were Ninja, strong willed, emotional, skillful and heroic warriors.

Like the first time I spoke to Nickelodeon I used a term that isn't even a real word when they asked about what was lacking in TMNT presently, I simply said "Badassness". I feel with what I've seen so far of the new series (though time could change all of that) it was completely void of anything that would define that term. Oh god....if it ends up like Brave and the Bold, I won't watch any of it. I did however, watch (and enjoy) all of Teen Titans - although the anime-style humor was annoying to me most of the time, honestly.

Ubisoft's offerings ranged, in my book, from passable (TMNT consoles, Smash-Up) to really cool (Re-Shelled, TMNT GBA), and only one game did I outright hate (Arcade Attack).
I was more worried about THQ taking the license, as I can't remember the last thing they released that I had played, that I didn't want to toss into a wood chipper. Then again, I think THQ is just a publisher and not a developer... smeh.

Well that has to be the formula for anything to resemble the TMNT in any variation, but it's just....I don't know, once again, we can't talk about it and I have a feeling they'll change at least a few things here and there I just hope some of those things were some of the major points that bothered me, and I wouldn't make suggestions that would turn it around and make other Turtle fans hate it, it's stuff that I just felt very strongly about that I felt were ruining some of the characters. It is NOT Teen Titans, that's just the vibe that the humor gave off and yes there seems to be sort of an anime influence there. Once again this was just how I viewed it all, I can't make major points without spewing spoilers so that hinders me from explaining myself any better than that. This is all just one perspective, mine. Like I said, I didn't like what I saw at all and I'm a huge fan of several versions of the TMNT, but that's just me. If it stays as is I will not watch it or buy the toys/merch, which probably makes me more sad than anything because I love Playmates...obviously...if you know me and have seen what consumes most of the space in my bedroom, I painted the walls the same color as the original Mikey figure for Pete's sake......... and Kevin's too lol.

But I'm just as true of a fan as any other hardcore Turtle junkie, I'm 30 years old and at least 23 of those years have been showing devotion to TMNT. They were like Playmates, except the quality pretty much stayed great the whole time.
Besides, button mashing is a TMNT staple.
yea i agree, but i tell you i cant wait for a ps3 tmnt game ;)

Am I alone in my love of Mutan Melee?
Konami made awesome videogames in the 90s, the 2k3 series games really weren't amazing, part of it is because beat-em up games just don't work anymore like they did in the 90s so they got bad reviews and they didn't hold our interest, also the tight storytelling of the 2k3 show didn't allow for the crazy adventures that the OT games did. They mostly seemed the need to follow the seasons it adapted. When Ubisoft got the license people were pretty happy in the drome since Konami wouldn't stink it up anymore, and frankly as much as I'm not too crazy about the company they didn't do a terrible job, TMNT 2007 was a nice change over the Konami 2k3 games even if it was nothing amazing and Smash Up was a fairly good game character roster controversy aside.
So yeah I'm not too happy that Ubisoft has the license but its not like Konami was making great games either, in fact I'd say the quality of the games from both companies were about the same. If Konami could re-create the magic of the 90s games again then yeah I'd want them to have the franchise but they don't even seem to know how to handle their own franchises anymore sadly.

Here is were I disagree with you, Beat-um ups can still be very successful and good overal game Prime example is, "Mortal Kombat: Shoalin Monks" one of the best Modern Beat um ups and done by none other than Koonami, So I know they can do it, my problem is that they aren't willing to put forth the time and effort. Ubisoft did a great Job on its first TMNT game "TMNT" and Re-shelled was a great success. So I think they deserve another shot

Smash Up is actually a great game... if they said from the beginning it was based solely on the 2007 movie I would have had zero disappointment.... They were acting like it was going to have a Marvel vs Capcom 2 size roster and we got the most basic line up ever.
This show has me so excited. I hope that they tell great stories and that the characters stay remotely in the area I am used to.
I always felt like the Fast Forward season felt like it was the turtles I knew and loved forced into the stupidest storyline ever. I could still enjoy it though because the turtles personalities were there. If they get that right any storyline they decide on will be ok.

Okay, I finally got to finish my write-up for the event.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d172/Machias_Banshee/nickelodeon.jpg
As Stephan stated, it was a very exciting couple of days for the few of us that were selected for the event. This was very special for me, because it was my first time ever going west of Pennsylvania. Plus I was meeting some long-time internet friends for the first time ever. So there's a lot of good memories to go along with the event.
The entire process of GETTING to California itself was an adventure. My day had started at 1am of the 29th, on a bus headed to Logan Airport. After a 6 hour flight, I found out (the hard way) that the transportation didn't have the correct time or place that I had to be picked up at. Fortunately, one of their drivers was in the parking building next door. So he came and got me, and in our conversation, I told him I'd never been out west before. So he gave me a guided tour from LA to Burbank - what a huge city. Overwhelming compared to Boston. But he pointed out all these great buildings, and parts of the highway where movie scenes took place. He was such a pleasant guy, and the bonus LA tour was just icing on the giant cake that this trip was...
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d172/Machias_Banshee/AmaranoPatio.jpg
The hotel... plush. Beautiful. Decorated with 'scenery' photos composed of naked body parts. I kid you not... This was also when we received the special boxes that Stephan posted. Shirt, water, some snack called ‘Pirate Booty’, weird green twizzlers… ‘other’ things… fun stuff.
A bunch of us met up the night before in the hotel, and talked about all SORTS of stuff. It was a clear, cool night, and the view from the patio went for Miles. It was such a great time meeting people for the first time. A few of us got some food and hung out on the rooftop patio. The view of the sunset and the city was really amazing...
The next morning, we checked out of the hotel and piled into the escort vehicle. There, more of us got together and did introductions. Then we shipped off to the studio.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d172/Machias_Banshee/Front-Entrance-2.jpg
Inside of the courtyard was very nice. There was a lot of growth on the walls, and the palm trees in the walkway created a beautiful canopy overhead for shade. I especially liked the fountain in the center. We had breakfast, where we all continued introductions, and then everyone piled inside. Stephan also introduced me to Ken Mitchroney, who was stopping in before working on a recording of FanBoy and Chum Chum. What a character… :)
We were then taken to a large decorated conference room where we introduced ourselves and were introduced to the Nickelodeon Executive Team.
Next we took a guided tour of the entire studio. The design of the building is really neat - there's a ton of skylights so everyone can work in natural light. You have your usual nick-style blobs everywhere, and in a lot of places we saw little groups of people working on different shows. The thing I liked most was the hallway of Original artwork by the in-house artists - still life, portraits, cartoonish stuff... It was an artistic valhalla. If you worked on certain shows, the area you worked in was decorated to match. Ambience really makes the difference..
We then returned to the conference room where we screened an animatic of a pilot episode (essentially storyboards with voiceovers). They also showed other pictures and such of the characters and the overall look of the show. Very exciting times...
-Playmates made a presentation about their new toyline and showed a large cross section of the first wave of figures, vehicles, and playsets. I'm not big into the collecting aspect of the fandom, but it was still neat to see what they have planned.
-After the toy presentation we returned to our seats and observed a live reading of part of a script; meaning the voice actors were in the room with us, reading from scripts. This included the voice talents of Rob Paulsen and Jason Biggs. This was hands-down the best thing of the event. During the Lunch/Social Hour, I was introduced to Jason Biggs and Rob Paulsen - they were both so wonderful to speak with, absolute pleasures to meet.
-Lunch/Social Hour - Pizza, what else would you expect? ;)
-We were broken up into small groups to discuss our feelings and opinions about everything we had seen today (this was the focus group portion of the event) We then ended the day with a Q&A session with the writing and production team.
The day ended with everyone sharing their personal information and having long goodbyes. We had a nice group picture, and then everyone was sent off to their respective airports.
----
I'm very excited about this whole thing. Yeah, there's stuff that might have to be tweaked, but things are looking pretty good...

I've been told by one of the "chosen" that it's the same voice...
BUT...with Paulsen it's all about inflection, so I'm sure it'll be fine. Heck, Raphael is basically just his voice.

Am I alone in my love of Mutan Melee?
Nope, I appreciate it on PC every now and then! Although I like it more for its bizarre plot twists, fight scenarios, and mission briefings than actual gameplay. The graphics were really a step down from the previous Konami games too. I've never played it cooperatively or competitively though, so I don't know if that makes the game more fun or more frustrating.
Also, here's a nice piece of fan-art for the game:

The three toes. I always liked the two toes, I thought it was like an homage to ninja foot gear. With the design they have it looks like though, it works well so I don't really care. They are just feet anyway.
The more and more I read about the new show, the more I just ride the border with everything. Just one big "eh" so far to me.

Just got an e-mail confirming of what can and can't be said about the TMNT fan event. We can discuss anything in regards to what we saw under the stipulation that we mention it is indeed "A mutation in progress".
So here were my gripes:
Splinter is 6 foot something, he is not the Yoda like figure he once was, he is also young. This totally destroys the idea of Splinter for me, one, because he looks ridiculous that tall, two, because Splinter was small and frail looking but a total badass. They mentioned that "We made him larger so he would be a better match for the Shredder and a more intimidating father figure." Whatever dude, let's re-make Star Wars and have Yoda be huge or re-make the Karate Kid (again) and have Mr. Miyagi be a big buff sumo wrestler. This kills me. It totally destroys the mystique of Splinter for me.
Another point, Donatello is much taller and goofier looking than the rest of the turtles, April O'Neil is sixteen and she is Donatellos love interest. Am I the only one that finds this ridiculous? I guess so.
Krang will appear but is known as "The Kraaang".
I thought that all of this stuff was perhaps an early April fools joke, hopefully this "Mutation in progress" isn't the final word.
Baxter Stockman is still the original African American Baxter, but he mutates with a toaster and becomes a giant toaster robot, but at least that isn't his permanent form apparently.
Not to mention the whole 3 toes thing, that was a minor but still annoying aspect of everything that I disliked.

'Kay. Doesn't sound so much like you're blowing things outta proportion anymore. Those are some pretty lame developments that ought to be changed. I'm not so peed off about the Splinter stuff, except for his stature. I'm short, but I'm intimidating. GRRRROWL! Stop messin' with our kids' minds like that, Nick. Okay, i agree with you now Groe. This is bad. April as a teenager? Oh - my - God. NO. The Kraaaaang? Seriously? Idiotic. Mutating with a toaster? Something like Nano is okay, but not a human mutating with a toaster becoming a robot. Such a horrible idea.
Splinter should be OLD and NOT tall. He'd look indeed way more bad-ass if he could handle The Shredder and he's not tall. That would just show how good of a ninja he is.
It should be two toes.
Donatello shouldn't be GOOFIER. He should be NERDIER and SMARTER.
Can you please tell me something about The Shredder? Evil? Intimidating? How is he in comparison to other Shredders?

Hmmm.
April being a kid doesn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it might. It certainly doesn't bother me nearly as much as her being a drawing, though...now I wonder if they'd find some way to work that in. *shudder*
It does quasi-fulfill a plot want I've had for years; ie that we see the turtles actually interact with someone their own age.
As for making Splinter bigger? No I don't like it. Not only does it not make a whole lot of sense, but it plays into the idea that Bigger means Tougher/stronger is better. Do we really need that concept reinforced on a kids show? I don't think so.
I don't strictly mind Splinter being younger, so long as he's still a father figure, and not some cool uncle.
I thought Splinter was awesome and liked very much the change Nick has made in this area...this from a 25+ year TMNT fan / collector. Also, with April, I can totally understand this change. Do I like it? Jury is still out.

Some quick bullet points from me...
New Splinter is awesome. Sorry, gotta disagree with Joe on this one. I think he has potential to be one of the best parts of the series.
April as a teenager with the big unanimous thumbs down from the group, and for many was a "deal breaker." Personally it wasn't that big of a deal for me, but what role she'll play is the bigger area of concern. In the "pilot" she just kinda hung around and it really wasn't clear why she was there.
Baxter didn't become a toaster. :p During the pilot his has a super suit thing, but it gets destroyed at the end. If he would have kept it I would have disliked it, but since he didn't, no big deal to me.

Not first ep. 'Pilot'. These terms aren't necessarily synonymous. It has been said (by TVsKyle or Toon, both Nickelodeon employees) that this pilot may never see the light of day. So, I would assume this to mean that it's simply a test animation meant to be more of a demonstration than anything. Anyone who knows better can feel free to correct me or confirm what I'm saying.

Rose, can you tell us the pilot's runtime?
25 minutes. Normal length of an episode is 22, so they'll have to trim it when it comes to making it into an actual episode.

There is no actual animation. It is meant to establish the look/feel of the series. This is one reason why it's not the first episode.
