Well that's really not their fault. They're not allowed to break street date and punishment for doing so can be losing rights to sell items from that publisher and in some cases fines. They're very strict about that. The boxes the DVDs come in have big orange labels on them clearly stating not to put those items out until the date on the box. It's a bigger deal for video games and hot movies but rules are rules. Some stores just don't give a crap but Best Buy typically isn't one of them.
I asked specifically if I could get it that day even though it doesn't street 'til Tuesday, and was told that I could. So, I have plenty reason to blame them for misleading me. It's not like I'm going to make a special trip to Baton Rouge on Tuesday to get that one DVD I'm looking for when a sales rep of their store wasted my time just two days earlier. What kinda sense would that make?

I always get the DVD's on their day of release, but I wasn't sure about this one 'cause my mom is working now & she's usually my ride. Thankfully, she's off tomorrow & we're heading out for groceries, and where we pick 'em up is right up the road from a Walmart, Target, & Best Buy. Should have no problem nabbing a copy. Yeah, victory.

I have all those from my original TV recordings. Obviously an official DVD would be preferable, but if it never happens I still have pretty good copies of all the episodes.

The closed captions seem to think Rob Paulsen is Donatello for some reason. Not an uncommon mistake, but one of Raphael's lines in Carter the Enforcer was miss-attributed to Donatello.

Yeah, I think it was like $9.99 or something before tax at Target. It's not a bad price for eight episodes. Best Buy's web site says like $12.99, they're always more expensive. If you can find it at Target or Walmart, definitely get it at one of those two. I only will get something at Best Buy if I can't find it anywhere else.

Um...what?
There are only 3 series, the Fred Wolf series (which is often broken down by fans as seasons 1-7 and the red Sky seasons of 8-10), the live action Next Mutation by Saban the Power Rangers people, and the 4kids series.
Also...talk of downloading things like this can be taken with a dim view...tread carefully.

08-24-2011, 02:35 PM
I'm enjoying it so far. Seeing how much more serious things are, the way they seem to cram so many situations in one episode, and how everything is connected like an actual story arc... it's too bad the Turtles were never allowed to actually fight. I know they went the Red Sky route to compete with the other darker shows... but had the Turtles stopped throwing sais around and tripping people up and actually bust out some awesome martial arts moves.... it would have done a world of difference. And no, I don't mean more violence... just more ninjitsu than just the occassional jumpkick....
It seemed Carter did more fighting things than the Turtles themselves...? Perhaps cause he fought hand to hand while the guys had to resort to throwing their weapons all the time? But yeah, the animation was kinda sucky at times... so I guess they wouldn't be able to properly animate fluid martial arts fighting...
VaughnMichael
08-24-2011, 02:39 PM
I wouldn't say the animation was sucky, the company they used to do the art for this season wasn't very good. Which gave us very poor quality art.

that's just me
When you look at those screen shots and compare them to the silliest moments the OT or even the Turtles Forever OT turtles you can hardly believe its the same cartoon, heck in those last seasons they seem even more serious than the 2k3 turtles did in some of the later seasons. However the change is also not that drastic, if you see the pilot you can totally see how they are the same turtles as the sillier seasons and the later seasons, its not like there is a big discrepancy in personality it was done really well.

That, and the rest of her design just seems off somehow in season 9. Maybe she's shorter and fatter looking..but I can't seem to place it.
It's interesting looking at the screen comparisons. Same company for 8 and 10...but for season 10, they seemed to merge the season 9 and 10 animation styles, giving it a truly cohesive look..

Yeah, I think in season 8 April's hair was the same, but eventually either mid-season of 8 or in this one, it was just.... lazy. Either she had a new style, or the animators were lazy to add all the extra lines and detail in her hair and gave her this sloppy sharp-edged wannabe version of her original hairstyle.
Bodywise, her outfit is either... looser, or she lost a bit of T&A in Red Sky. Sorry to sound pervy, but she doesn't seem to have that big round butt in those brown pants like she did when she wore the yellow jumpsuit.

Finally started watching this season, and I gotta say that I like the animation a lot better so far. Paired with the less drab color scheme, this season feels more at home in the Fred Wolf universe than season 8 did.

Well the mutagen had "become unstable", so the previous rules didn't apply.

Even Season 8 and Season 9 April are noticeably different, looks and even voicewise. Season 8 has yellow as opposed to beigeish-brown pants of Seasons 9 and 10, and isn't as "pudgy" around the waist. But her eyes went from hazel in Season 8 (after being black for Seasons 1-7) to blue for Seasons 9 and 10. Also, her voice is a little raspier (listen to that independent freelance reporter news report on that one episode and compare that to a Channel 6 report, even from Seasons 7 and 8, and you'll notice the rasp there). To me watching it means that April is now somewhere in her mid-30s agewise in Seasons 9 and 10. But it can be good or bad, as humans age, but mutants perhaps don't! Her role/job however is at a critical crossroads, recently being laid off at Channel 6 and almost has a mid-life crisis feel to it. Splinter's voice sounds older as well, which can be a good thing in terms of natural progression.
I just watched the whole season yesterday, and it's definately not "classic TMNT" compared to the other seasons (even 8 and 10 to a certain extent with Shredder, Krang and the Technodrome). It still beats Next Mutation and is on par with Fast Forward in my opinion. Plus, this season is watchable in around 3 hours, so it goes by pretty quick, and I like to treat Seasons 8, 9, and 10 as separate movies given the better continuity. I do miss some of the butt jokes in the earlier seasons, but Red Sky seasons are proving to age a bit better than the earlier seasons qualitywise. I like the laser gun sound effects of these seasons, and the music always suggests action/tension is nearby.

Finally done. I really really liked this season, but the finale was lame. Thank God they made one more season.
One weird thing I kept noticing, was Rugrats similarities...
Tony Jay's voice is enough, but even Dregg himself reminds me of something of Rugrats when he's putting on his "benevolent alien" act. And so did that one videogame character from Carter and Mike's game. And even some of the musical cues sounded like it was from that show too. Weird.

any clue as to when AU/PAL might get the rest of the seasons or when we might start to see proper film masters or blu rays ? a man can dream.
Is 9 the last season or how many are there?

It did remind me of how much of a miracle it felt like when the DVDs for Seasons 9-10 were finally announced. It was several years after Season 8 came out, as I remember.

^ That's correct. Even Season 8 took a long time to be released if I remember right. 9 and 10 of course were the Dregg seasons; but thanks to prodding, they decided to go ahead and put then out. Good thing too, or we would never have gotten the Turtle Van boxed set.
