Our retailer contacts tell us that Lionsgate Entertainment has scheduled the next-to-last season of the original '80s-and-'90s animated series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Season 9, for DVD release on August 16th. This production year, the last season with television show developer, writer and executive story editor David Wise on board, consisted of just 8 episodes and so it will come on a single disc. Cost is $14.98 SRP for 176 minutes, with episodes full screen video, English 2.0 Dolby Digital sound and with closed captioning. Package art isn't available so far, but stay tuned and we'll keep you updated!
AWESOMESAUCE! All I can say is, IT'S ABOUT TIME. Hopefully, Season 10 and the missing episodes will follow.

Thank god. I guess sometimes whining and complaining really DOES make a difference. :)

Thank goodness. I hope they remember about the three skipped episodes and put them on the 10th season set.

I wonder if we're getting this release in August to coincide with the release of the IDW comics. The IDW issues might have ads from Lionsgate in it.
Anyone remember how the Mirage comics from 2008 and 2009 had ads for the season 7 and 8 DVDs?

FINALLY!!! We may actually see this thing finished yet, far too many times have I started collecting a show on DVD only to have it cancelled half way through it's release. This is great news!
I'm guessing that the final set will be only one disc as well whenever it comes outs. If that is the case and they don't want to put too many episodes on a disc, I hope they put the missing episodes together with the season 10 episodes that haven't been on DVD before rather than just making it a season 10 set only. They could just call it "the final volume" rather than "season 10."

They'll probably put all 8 eps of Season 10 on the last disc. I don't know if we'll ever get the 3 they skipped over. We'll have to rely on online uploaded from VHS tapes for those eps.

We've emailed them about those missing eps since way back when the Season 5 DVD came out, it's now years later an those eps remain skipped.
Granted they have been released on VHS in the 90's so people uploaded those eps online, so it's better than nothing.

Oh, this sneaky little DVD makers! But I'm glad they'll at least release it. Not holding my breathe for the missing episodes, though (which, IIRC, was released on R5 DVDs). There's still pretty good chance they'll screw as one way or another.

As for the missing episodes, maybe they'll release a Planet of the Turtleoids DVD with it and "2 bonus un-released episodes"....but I'm not holding my breath, either.

but I don't see anything wrong with it saying "Season 10"
The show dis last for almost 10 years, after all.
all in all, I'm happy with this news!
Season 10 I'm guessing won't be released until 2012 when the new animated TMNT series starts. then they can market the final DVD to promote it when the new animated series begins.
But I would hate to wait a year for the final DVD. IF LionsGate is smart, they will release Season 10 the same year, just to be done with it.

This is great news, as I am almost finished with my rewatching of season 3 so it will be nice to know that eventually I will be able to finish the entire series.
And I agree with something CyberCubed said here, I really think Lionsgate held off when Turtles kinda faded away for a while there and not that they are back in the spot light they figure it's a good time to finish releasing the series.
Well its not like Lionsgate was ever consistent with the dvd releases so I kinda expected Lionsgate to finish off the season. I do think we might see a "Full series" release though around the time the new movie and that will probably have the missing episodes. Who knows maybe we even get a non half-assed release.
So is the box art going to be the Nick turtles done OT style? We already got 2k3 and 2k7 OT style. Maybe Nick gets pissed off at a turtles DVD not relased by them and they outright buy the OT from Lionsgate, stopping them to release the final season on DVD, wouldn't that be bitter sweet.

Just when I had given up all hope that Lionsgate even had the show anymore. Finally season 9 and probably season 10 as well. I was worried Viacom had just screwed us out of getting the rest of the original series on DVD.
E-Mail doesn't tend to do a dang thing these days if it ever did. Snail mail is the way to go.
So how about a snail mail letter campaign? Keep it simple and it should be effective.
- Thank Lionsgate for releasing the series
- Ask them to include the 3 missing episodes "Planet of the Turtleloids Part 1" "Planet of the Turtleloids Part 2" and "Once Upon a Time Machine"
- Request the final volume be two discs so they don't cram 11 episodes on the final DVD set
Anybody got Lionsgate's mailing address?
I think this will work but they seem to have more than one address and I'm not sure which one would be the best to send inquiries to that aren't related to investor relations.

It's worth a shot right?

Yes it was. It's on the TMNT Easter release with the other Hokum Hare episode, The Turtles and the Hare. I had the tape, but I gave it to a kid who has all my other old TMNT VHS tapes that I gave him in the late 90's-early '00's. I made a DVD with the episode on it, from the tape...but the quality ain't great.

I've encoded the Turtles Awesome Easter VHS to a DVD, and am working on doing Planet of the Turtleoids. I'm kinda stuck at what to do with them now, though.
You should share them, its not like it will cause people to not buy the sets and honestly I don't think Lionsgate will release the episodes on dvd anyway unless they come out with a "complete series" or they re-release the series years down the road. Its not like they skipped the episodes on purpose, it was a mistake and the company is oblivious they even missed episodes and think they only have one season left to release. I can live with VHS quality rips counting the DVDs pretty much felt like slightly higher than VHS quality, especially since they kept cramming 13/12 episodes per disc.

Yeah I don't know if "Planet of the Turtleloids" ever re-aired in syndication as two episodes nor if it re-aired on USA Cartoon Express at any point.
It may have only broadcasted as an extended episode prime time special and I'm starting to wonder if Lionsgate doesn't even have it but I don't see why they wouldn't have it if they got all the episodes of Fred Wolf TMNT.

Well... if you believe Wikipedia:
The episodes "Once Upon a Time Machine" and the 1991 prime-time special "Planet of the Turtleoids" continue to not be a part of any season set to date. Lionsgate claims that they are having difficulty in locating the master tapes for the missing episodes, which could be causing a delay with the distribution of the remaining episodes

Not in America. But, USA Network once played it in one of their slots of two back-to-back TMNT eps, the only non-syndicated ep I'd ever seen on there.

If I remember Season 7 came out in like March or April, and then Season 8 came out the same year in September.
I agree though 2012 is possible. I think Lionsgate should release the final season right as the Nick advertisement for the new show heats up, so they can piggyback off any early success of the TMNT revival.

I'm fine with that. Probably another August release.
Its hard to believe the TMNT DVDs started back in 2004, and by 2012 we could have the entire series bar two episodes.
And had we asked you yesterday you may have said you never excepted to see seasons 9 and 10 actually released on DVD either :twink:

Search my post history, I always stated the episodes would eventually come out, at first I thought it was just a big break which is what it was, as the "break" got bigger I speculated that Lionsgate would go ahead and wait to cash-in with the new show. Counting recently TMNT got a ton of press for the Nick show, it seems I was right and Lionsgate is cashing in on that. A little earlier than I expected but I was right all along. :P
As for the lost episodes it seems that Lionsgate just doesn't know they skipped them, they didn't do it on purpose. A dromer actually posted the evidence that from S1-4 they used the official sites episode guide and for S5+ they used some other episode guide and because of that we got one episode released twice and three skipped. Again Lionsgate has the series, they have always tried to cash-in on the franchise rather than actually give it the respect it needs. Once they finish releasing the series you can bet they'll re-release it again as a complete series or just in another way and through itunes or DD, and no matter what episode guide they use they won't skip episodes. The franchise is going to be pretty damn big once Nick re-launches it and you can bet they are going to cash in on it. There is a reason we had 2k3 artwork done OT style as covers and later done 2k7 movie style, and that the DVD releases started getting more consistent around the time of the new movie along with complete season sets $$$$.

I'd gladly send my VHS's to Lionsgate if I knew they'd get to the right person, and if I knew they acutally cared.
Basic facts are, they changed the source of their episode list and they don't really care about 3 little missing episodes like we do. I've given up on them releasing them years ago, so it's not a big deal to me.

I don't understand how people can be confused about the orders of the DVDs. Granted Season 3 was released in like 4 volumes, but we know its in order.
The only problem is the Euro Vacation eps are on the Season 7 sets, but thankfully separate from the actual Season 7 DVDs. And the 3 skipped eps.
Other than that just watch the eps in the order on the DVDs. It doesn't matter that much on an episode to episode basis.

Join the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as they face off against new opponents - the evil Lord Dregg and Hi-tech - while also fighting against their own uncontrollable mutations in the mind-bending Season 9! With the help of Carter, a new ninja ally, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello struggle to stop Lord Dregg from enslaving Earth, while overcoming Replicon, a battle droid that regenerates after each defeat. Includes 8 Shell-Busting Episodes: The Unknown Ninja, Dregg of the Earth, The Wrath Of Medusa, The New Mutation, The Showdown, Split-Second, Carter the Enforcer, and Doomquest.

About the forgotten 3 Episodes:
I had the chance to look into the "official" Lionsgate Episodelist back in late 2009 when i tried to create a chronological List of Episodes for the german DVD Release of the Show. (which was pretty hard, because I only had 4 Days to do so, but thats another story)
As far as I remember, "Once upon a Time Machine" was listed right after "The Turtles and the Hare" and the "Planet of the Turtleloids 2 Parter" was listed as the Season 5 Finale "Two-Part Primetime Special - Planet of the Turtleloids".
So it could be that OuaTM was overseen, when they redid their Episodelist back in the days, but PotT? No I don't think so!
Maybe they had plans to release it seperatly as a Special DVD, but the plans were scrapped when the DVDs started not to sell as good as hoped?
We'll never know...
All I know is that Lionsgate has them in their "Episodelist" of the Show and maybe even has got the License to release them on DVD...
Maybe we'll know it in late 2011, early 2012?

This is awesome news. I'm happy Lionsgate is doing this for the fans.
Hah please. Lionsgate has and never will do anything for the fans. They screwed up the seasons, they screwed up the order, they FORGOT 3 episodes, they had incorrect DVD art, and didn't even remaster any of the episodes, it's all VHS quality.

Bingo. If they were in it for the fans none of that would have happened AND we'd already have seasons 9 and 10.
They're releasing this now while the TMNT is "picking up momentum", and season 10 shouldn't be far behind but they're most likely going to sell their distribution rights the second they've milked the TMNT teet dry.

I don't mind the cover art myself, since it's the EPISODES I'd be looking at, but I do agree that it would have been nice if the Europe Vacation episodes could have been a part of season 4. They take place between "Plan Six from Outerspace" and "Turtles of the Jungle" from season 4, do they not? They aired in the same year as the season 7 episodes, but I'm not sure if they aired AS PART OF season 7.
The episodes may not have been remastered, but that's okay with me too. The picture quality is still watchable.

Nick really needs to rerelease the entire 2k3 series from
the start.
That is less concerning, since all the eps technically are on DVD right now, but we can hope for a rerelease in a few years.

I'd re-up if Nick takes all of what we have and makes a good "Complete Series" release. I kept my "Turtle Spine" volumes of seasons 1 and 2 so I'd have the features. Heck, maybe Nick could release the missing Laird interviews.

Well you'd have to import the Back to the Sewers season but other than that they were all released in the US on DVD one way or another.
I've still got a VCR and I have some of the official VHS tapes of TMNT which I swear have better video quality than the DVDs.
I might buy "Planet of Turtleloids" on VHS and maybe even the "Turtles and the Hair" VHS for "Once Upon a Time Machine" both seem to be on Amazon. I could probably find them on eBay at some point as well.
If they don't end up putting those episodes on the final DVD set then I'd be all for them releasing them along with a few other episodes on DVD as a final spotlight collection with the selling point being the extended episode "Planet of the Turtleloids" and "Once Upon a Time Machine". Then they could include the follow-ups to "Planet of the Turtleloids" and "The Turtles and the Hair" because its related to "Once Upon a Time Machine" that were already released on DVD. Sure we don't need them released again but wouldn't hurt to include a few extra already released episodes because they're not likely to charge less than 10 bucks for having just 70 or so minutes of show on the disc so they may as well include a few more episodes to fill the space on the DVD.
Not gonna lie though if they just released a single DVD with "Planet of the Turtleloids" and "Once Upon a Time Machine" I'd buy it. It doesn't matter to me if they could fit more on that disc, I just want those episodes. It'd be good to round it out to 4 or 6 episodes though.
This should be entirely do-able
106 - The Turtles and the Hare
107 - Once Upon a Time Machine
126 - Planet of the Turtleloids Part 1
127 - Planet of the Turtleloids Part 2
133 - Return of the Turtleoids
164 - Escape from the Planet of the Turtleloids
Just 5/6 episodes (if you count Planet of the Turtleloids as 1 long episodes instead of 2 standard ones) and 2/3 would be new to DVD.
Call it "Planet of the Turtleloids", "Adventures Through Time and Space", "Lost Episodes", or anything really. Just make it happen. Heck stick the Usagi episodes on there as well and call it "Turtles and Hares". It's silly but so is this show.
I also wish they'd remaster the first season because it's some of the best episodes but the video quality is lousy. I don't suppose they have a way of doing that effectively though, much less interest in spending more money on releasing TMNT. Makes me wish Shout Factory would pick up the rights to the show after Lionsgate is done with it.
Really it'd be best if they included "Planet of the Turtleloids" and "Once Upon a Time Machine" as bonus episodes on the season 10 set. So that's what we should shoot for and trying to get those episodes on DVD any other way can follow if they don't put them on the season 10 set.
Now that we know both of those were on the Lionsgate episode list (which I'm sure is roughly or exactly the same as the one on NinjaTurtles.com) it makes especially less sense for them not to be included on the season 5 set. But I'm sure they have the tapes. Both were released on VHS previously back when the were under the Family Home Entertainment label.
Why would you want those episodes to be re-released? I'd rather have episodes from the best episodes from the volumes that had 13 or 12 episodes per disc and their quality wasn't as high.

Season 10 was probably one of my favorite seasons. It wasn't exactly what should have been the, "grand finale" for the original series, but it was a fairly decent wrap-up.
I do wish we got to see some of the older villains wrapped up though. We never did find out where Bebop/Rocksteady wound up after Season 8. I guess they were just lost in Dimension X somewhere?

To be fair, you can't really compare Dregg to Shredder during the first seven season. The show was so much different during the final 24 episodes. I think you can compare Shredder/Krang to Dregg in the final 24 episodes. But comparing Dregg to Shredder during the first seven seasons just isn't fair to Shredder.

Oh man, so much wrong with that reply it's hard to know where to start:
Lol, get over it. The only bad thing they did was somehow skip over three eps.
Tell me something, of the hundreds of released DVD sets over the years, how many do you know that flat out 'forget' episodes, never acknowledge their mistake, or even include them later on when they had MULTIPLE chances to do so? That's a big zero.
The seasons have all been released properly, and the order is just fine. The Euro eps aired with Season 7 in the US so can't blame them for that.
Um, do you have different DVD sets than I do? There wasn't a single season released with all the episodes in the PROPER order, except if you count Season 1, which originally Lionsgate was going to f*ck up by releasing it as 'The Saga Begins' until they got reemed out. When I buy a product from a supposedly big name distributor, I expect them to at least do a sliver of research into what they are releasing.
Sure the cover art could be more accurate but I don't care. And as for remastering the eps I wouldn't expect any other company to do that either.
While the cover art inaccuracies is probably the most minor of the complaints, not going back and using the original video sources is plain inexcusable. Essentially EVERY single DVD release nowadays has the company go back and grab new copies. Since this is likely the only time these will be released, I would have expected them to put at least SOME effort into them making look better than a VHS copy.

I'll agree this is the one bad thing they did. That being said, the fact that only 2 episodes managed to get skipped over is godsend. If they skipped tons of eps that would be a different story.

LOL, wtf? All the following season sets have episodes in proper order:
- Season 1
- Season 2
- Season 3
- Season 4
- Season 8
- Season 9
Episodes in slightly different order based on episode lists but still perfectly fine:
- Seasons 5
- Season 6
Episodes where Euro Vacation eps were included:
- Season 7.
What the hell are you complaining about? I watched Seasons 5 and 6 on the order they were on the DVDs, and nothing mattered. The Euro vacation eps are the only, "majorly out of order" on the sets, but again those eps were always originally aired in a wacked out place.
Most likely when the Season 10 DVD comes out, all 8 episodes will be included in proper order too.

Is this why the 2k3 series actually was messed up in DVD releases?
2k3 was a currently airing show and most shows that are airing have to put up with the Volume crap/random episodes, its minority that actually get good DVD releases at first if its a kids show. After the show was going off the air they finally got the releases right, they just were unable to continue.
I'm comparing the OT to DVD sets from that era like He-Man, Transformers, Thundercats and releases from companies like Shout! Factory. Those are all much smaller franchises than TMNT and got much better treatment and Lionsgate is a much bigger company than Shout. To Lionsgate the turtle dvds were a quick buck cash-in releasing cheap barebone dvds.

It is very nice to hear that they are releasing the 9th season, and it's cool to count my blessings at least on that.
Although I do wonder, would it not have been easier (like a few others have said) to just do the whole she-bang, and release both season 9 & 10? 16 episodes in one package shouldn't be too much of a hassle, that way it'd all be said and done (well, other than the 2 or 3 missing ones, which is too bad...granted, they are online but that's the thing, if you can find them online to watch, it should be easy to just slap that onto a DVD...only cause not all of us want to just watch them on a computer, but to sit back and relax while they play on our TV's)
Of course...if that happened I'm sure there'd still be something for me to complain about,
Although again, I am at least glad that they haven't dropped it entirely and such. Although yes, I do wish the Back to the Sewers (last of 2003) would get released in the states. I know most say that season sucks, but I'd still like it to complete my entire collection of 2k3 turtle DVDs (and I can't afford to buy the set that's in...eh...I think New Zealand)

It's ironic that they finally made the turtles look that toon accurate... and yet Season 9 is pretty deep into the Red Sky redesign. haha

The drawing over 2K3 stock art thing is getting kind of old at this point. I like it alright but at least the last set had mostly original artwork. I wish they'd stop coloring them like the 2K3 turtles.

Yeah, I really liked Lord Dregg as a villain. I mean Shredder will forever be the turtles arch nemisis, but Lord Dregg was great (especially with Tony Jay providing his voice).
No other villian will replace Shredder in my heart as my favorite, but I did like Lord Dregg as well. I loved Tony Jay's deep, menacing voice. It fit Dregg to a T.
I have my own opinion about how the original TMNT series should have ended though.
In my opinion, Lord Dregg should have been defeated for good, back in Season 9, with Shredder, Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady being brought back at the end of the Seaon 9 finale, to have a final showdown with the turtles for the series finale of Season 10.
and although, I loved "The Fresh Prince Of BelAir" I wish it had waited a few more years, so James Avery could have remained as the voice of Shredder in the final seasons. Bill E. Martin did a great job with the role, but his Shredder always sounded constipated to me. They should have stuck with Jim Cummings for the Red Sky seasons as well if they couldn't get Avery back for it.
but what's done is done. All in all, I'm just glad that LionsGate is finally going to get the whole series released. There have been many animated series that have been released that haven't been finished being released due to lack of sales, and I don't want TMNT to be one of them.
If they do any special DVD releases of any of the missing episodes of classic TMNT, it will probably be either when the next TMNT movie comes out or the new animated series begins. Who knows.
also, if they want to include bonus features, i'd like for them to release the TMNT 1987 series soundtrack with all the show's background music, along with the DVDs. Even if the soundtrack album made the price go up, I'd still buy it, because the theme music and all background music from that series is pretty popular on YouTube. You should have seen how many people uploaded their version of the TMNT Fighting Theme after I attempted to do it.
Right now, mine has over 14,000 hits (or close to that) We should also lean on LionsGate to get the cassette tapes of allt he background music and release a soundtrack CD. I for one, would love that.

I'm actually impressed by this box art for Season 9. They actually look more like the OT turtles.
The only gripe I have about most of these covers is that they never featured any of the other characters on the cover as well.
It would have been great to see April, Shredder or even Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady featured with the turtles on the DVD covers as well.
But I guess it would have taken up too much room. After all I know they're marketing the turtles, not the villian.
I just think that more could have been done with the earlier seasons box art.

Um, it's no different from season 8.
How can anyone say this is the best Box Art yet? The first season actually had OT artwork and it was awesome. I don't even know why they put money into copying the 2k3 turtle designs OT style, any stock art from the OT would have looked better, I doubt it made kids that are fans pick up the DVDs more because they got confused counting the 2k3 show didn't have as many fans as the OT did and the OT turtles were probably easier to market/easier on the eyes at a store shelf.
I did find it neat at first to see the 2k3 turtles done OT style, but they covers were really bad, heck remember that Donatello one that was used two volumes in a row only the second volume was zoomed in on his face... The Box arts did improve after S4, and this new one isn't as bad as some of the Season 3 ones but its still disappointing. Heck I wish they had kept the ripping off the 2007 film turtles stock art instead of going back to 2k3 which already have plenty of covers. And yes since its already messed up I do hope they copy stock-art of the new Nick show.

Official Press Release for Season 9
All 8 Episodes From Season 9 Make Their DVD Debut
Street Date: 8/16/11
DVD SRP: $14.98
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Cowabunga dudes! Everybody’s favorite shell-shocked, pizza-devouring crime fighters are back when Lionsgate Home Entertainment releases Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season 9 to DVD for the first time ever. Featuring all 8 episodes from the series’ 9th season, the title follows the “heroes-in-a-half-shell” as they battle intergalactic criminal Lord Dregg™ and his army of Technogangsters in order to save the world. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season 9 DVD is packaged in a lenticular O-card and will be available on August 16th for the radical suggested retail price of $14.98.
Although the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand originated with comic books first published by Mirage Studios in 1984, the agile amphibians found pop culture fame in large part due to the animated television series that ran from 1987-1997. The original animated series has enjoyed phenomenal success on DVD with more than 1.7 million copies sold to date.
SYNOPSIS
Join the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as they face off against new opponents — the evil Lord Dregg and Hi-tech™ — while also fighting against their own uncontrollable mutations in the mind-bending Season 9! With the help of Carter™, a new ninja ally, Michelangelo™, Leonardo™,
Raphael™, and Donatello™ struggle to stop Lord Dregg from enslaving Earth, while overcoming
Replicon™, a battle droid that regenerates after each defeat. Featuring nonstop, sewer-to-
street action, these eight adventures will leave you wanting more turtle power!
EPISODES:
The Unknown Ninja: When Lord Dregg, a wanted criminal, successfully escapes his pursuers and arrives in Earth's region of space, he immediately schemes to replenish his power supply with the gold resources found on the planet. The Turtles foil his first attempts, stopping his army of Technogangsters from looting a vault. Meanwhile, the TMNT discover that they have been watched and aided secretly by a mysterious ninja biker, who seeks to learn from them.
Dregg of the Earth: The Turtles and Carter find themselves at odds as their differences in opinion on what qualifies as teamwork threaten to sever their relationship. Lord Dregg makes his presence known on Earth, but dawns the cloak of sincerity, working in service of humanity. Can the TMNT expose him?
The Wrath of Medusa: Lord Dregg summons the criminal bounty hunter Medusa to attack and defeat the Turtles, while his Technogangsters raid the neutrinium mines on Earth without interference. Carter runs into problems with his maverick mutation disease when he accidentally damages a dam, endangering lives.
The New Mutation: Dregg successfully captures the Turtles' uncontrollable mutation problems on camera, and exposes them to the world. When faced with an increase in their powers and their maverick changes, the TMNT square off against Dreggs' Replicon, a being capable of replicating itself with each defeat into multiple forms...
The Showdown: Carter faces an old enemy he helped to expel from their Martial Arts school years ago. However, their grudge takes a backseat when Lord Dregg contacts an alien promoter looking to take the TMNT to his perverse death tournaments. He transports Leonardo, Michelangelo, Carter and his foe, leaving only Donatello and Raphael behind on Earth, to counter Dregg's latest scheme to make use of a new Mutation device.
Split-Second: The Turtles must deal with their increasingly frequent mutations as they battle The Replicon, a battle droid that can regenerate itself upon each defeat. Carter and April take on a slug-like creature known as The Slorr, which is overtaking New York.
Carter the Enforcer: The Turtles battle two mysterious beings attempting to kill Carter. They later learn their names are Landor and Merrik, two time travelers who have come to eliminate Carter before he can betray the Turtles and the Earth to Dregg, who is developing The Star Shield, a weapon capable of enslaving the planet.
*
Doomquest: The Turtles' mutations continue to cost them dearly when they lose control briefly and tear through Times Square. Dregg finally acquires the vortex crystal, with which he can summon his scattered armada directly to Earth by warping space itself. But one other individual wants the Crystal — his name is Doomquest, an old enemy of Dreggs'. The battle for the vortex crystal leads the Turtles to a startling new discovery, but it also leads to the near destruction of Earth...

The 9th and 10th season is out there....with sub-titles. I have them, ATM myself.
EDIT: I also have season 9 and 10 with Russian language track, over the episodes. I tried to make a "better" episode taking the superior Russia video with the sub-titles audio...but it proved pointless as there were unforeseen video glitches in the Russian copies and the audio cut out early on the subtitl....
Did get a decent English cut of Epic Begins out of it though, as it oddly had both the English and Russian language tracks as 2 separate creatures.

I know. I'm such a huge fan of the red sky episodes. I remember it was around 1996, and I had stopped watching the original TMNT cartoon about five years earlier. I was so shocked how far along the show had come from what it was during the early nineties. The show had more serious feel to it, and it had a stronger continuity. I loved it. I'm really looking forward to having more of the red sky episodes on dvd.

It'll probably take us another year till Season 10. But I am sure we'll get it especially with the new series starting next year. Probably another August release.
Of course I'd love to see Lionsgate release it in either December or early 2012.
I was thinking, maybe the reason Lionsgate took so long to release is because of the Nick deal? We know FredWolf owns the show but that doesn't necessarily mean they can release it without licensing the turtles? I ask because I was reminded of two examples of similar situations. DiC owns the Nickelodeon cartoons from the late 80s/early 90s, however Shout! still had to license the characters from Nintendo which is why Super Mario World took longer to be released since Yoshi had to be licensed separately and wasn't included with the Mario cast. With Power Rangers it appears that for Saban to re-air the A Friend in Need episode which is a crossover with masked/Kamen Rider they had to license the Kamen Rider franchise back from Toei. So maybe Lionsgate now had to go through Nick to license the turtles before releasing the OT which is separate of who owns the actual show, a possibility.

Season 10 will likely come out right before the Nick series starts. We're getting this in August to piggyback off the momentum of the IDW comics.
Lionsgate clearly waits for the next big Turtle thing to come out before they release their next DVD.

Is that what it'll actually be sold for? Amazon.com has it listed for $10.99 and Walmart.com is showing that it'll be $9.96 (both are as of this post). So I'm betting it'll be closer to $10 than $15, which isn't too bad. I can handle around $1 per episode.

$10 is more reasonable. Its only 8 episodes with no special features.

MSRP is only $14.98 so you can expect it to be less than that at retail. Expect $10 or $11 if you're buying it in a store.

For only 8 episodes with no special features, I sure wouldn't spend more than $10.
Also even if you're not a fan of this season, I suggest everyone buy a copy so we get Season 10 eventually.

I concur Mr. Hexahedron. More sales could mean a season 10.

Well we got this far, not to see Season 10 would be a crime. I'm sure they'll put all 8 episodes on it too (ignoring the fact that some were on the Season 1 disc already).
I just wish there were some way to get Planet of the Turtleoids and Once upon a time machine included on the Season 10 DVD as bonus eps.

I'd pay 15 whatever. What's a few extra dollars honestly? The fact we're getting it at all is nice enough. Now I only hope they do a series set when they finish dragging out these DVD releases.

I can't ever see Lionsgate re-releasing the series again. Maybe if another company or Nick purchases the old toon.
At most Lionsgate will probably make the series available digitally, but not more DVD releases.

They released all of Will and Grace in season sets and then a boxset at the end. I wouldn't rule out the possibility. Honestly I wish Time Life got their hands on Turtles instead. They did a good Ghostbusters set. I think turtles easily deserved that treatment.

Judging by this DVDs description on the Wal-Mart website, TMNT Season 9 is gonna boast some seriously mature and edgy content!

I guess that Red Sky overhaul really did succeed in gearing the show more towards older viewers, eh?

James Harvey from Toonzone has posted some scans of the disc and packaging as well as a look at the menus. (http://www.toonzone.net/forums/showthread.php?282787-quot-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Season-Nine-quot-DVD-Coming-August-2011&p=3894838#post3894838)
Really love that the Turtles' mutated forms appear on the back. :)

Remind me if I've missed the news, but it is confirmed that this season will be available in Wal-Mart retail stores? The website has it for preorder but it is listed as "Not Sold In Stores." Other upcoming DVDs like Batman: Year One are described differently.

NOOO!!!
I mean I could order online, but I prefer to actually pick it up in a brick and mortar.

Why is it so hard for people to place an order on Amazon? If you have Prime (and if you don't, you can probably get a free trial), it ships for free and you'll get it on the release date.

Hah, I wish! But a new (stupid) CA law means I can't get Amazon referral fees no matter how highly I speak of them or spam you with referral links.

Why would this not be sold in stores when every previous DVD was? I'm sure I saw the other DVDs at Walmart at some point or another.
I've usually bought my DVDs from Target/Best Buy/Toys R Us though.

Oh, man, in yet another brilliant mistake (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=869184&postcount=231) on the Wal-Mart website, take a look at the featured voice actors on this title:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=16637022&findingMethod=rr
Margot Kidder, Clifton James, Gene Hackman, Sarah Douglas, Jackie Cooper, Terence Stamp, Marlon Brando, Christopher Reeve, Ned Beatty, Valerie Perrine, Jack O'Halloran, Marc McClure, E.G. Marshall
Fred Wolf spared no expense on talent for that penultimate season, eh? I guess they could do that once they cut Rob Paulsen from the cast.:trolleye:

Wow...that cast seems....SUPER. :D
I've reloaded the page...and keep getting different casts...the heck!?
Most recent: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Kwanten, Sam Trammell, Rutina Wesley, Nelsan Ellis
Something tells me that this isn't the True (Blood) cast of TMNT season 9.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cilliam Murphy, Tom Berenger, Michael Caine
This would be my DREAM Turtle cast.
Ok....I'm done!

Went out today to get some stuff done and looked to see if anyone had it yet but nope nothing at any of the stores.:ohwell:
Similarly, I swung by BestBuy yesterday because I called ahead to confirm they had it. When I get there, they told me they couldn't sell it to me until Tuesday. So, they just forfeited a sale to DeepDiscount.
