Will this be the only TMNT toon without Usagi? probably WAY to early to tell.

Indeed. I'd love to see Usagi, and we really have no way of knowing if Stan will sign off on his use, yet.

Would the Nick writers even ask Stan? I imagine not.

Then the episode wouldn't get made...they would need Stan's approval to use Usagi.

Usagi's been in almost every media apart from movies right? It would be good to keep him for "continuity". (Not that I want it to be the same as other series)

I think "tradition" is a more fitting word than "continuity" here.

He wasn't in the Archie series either.
He was in the original cartoon, 4kids cartoon, and Mirage comics.

Usagi is pretty awesome I doubt if he will be in this series though jst bc Nick is really trying to make this a completely different series set apart from the others.

You know in complete honesty I would rather see Usagi make a cameo in the new comic series at one point, then the new cartoon.
With Peter out of the picture though and Stan being such a good friend of his, it makes me doubt either will happen :tsad:

hey fearlessleader, don't worry man!
I am a member of the usagi yojimbo dojo and stan said already that he was asked to contribute something to the new idw comic series, maybe a one-shot or something of that matter was what stan guessed...so there is reason to look forward for this matter;)
of course I wouldn't know if in case stan really makes a one shot that he will automaticly bring myamoto usagi into that story but...let's just wait and see...

Sweet! I really oughtta go to the dojo more often, I always forget to despite having an account there.
On a somewhat related note, I asked Dooney if he'd be down to do the occasional variant cover or pinup & he said he'd love to. So maybe we can find a way to link IDW up with him too seeing how he's in the top 3 fan favorites list.

Great news!! I look forward to seeign what it is; hope it's not just a pin-up but another crossover adventure! :D

I've often wondered how many people picked up an issue of Volume 4 based on the cover art and experienced the visual shock when they opened the page.
EDIT: I thought I was in the Comic Section reading this...:P

It seems like we have talked about this before. I could have sworn that we did. Anyway my thoughts on Usagi in the new show are kind of two fold. On the one hand I think it would be kind of cool as he has been part of the TMNT world for quite a while. Then there is the other part that says to let him be. We've seen him twice in animation and the best version was the comic. Let this show be it's own thing and not reuse past ideas.

That would be great to see him in the show and in the comics again. I absolutely love the few crossovers we do have available. I think there would be much potential for stories

I just rediscovered this thread that I had forgotten about I even posted here;)...although it is late now I feel I should say the following:hey, it was my pleasure, I was as happy as you guys when stan replied that...;)
knowing more about the look and feel of the upcomming turtles program I would be preety excited if usagi could get into it again...hope they give him more justice than ever before....(the 2k3 version was pretty good I think)

I talked to Stan at the Boston Comic Con this past year and asked him if Usagi will be on the new Nick show. He said no because his appearances were "a favor to Peter" Sorry to ruin it:tcry:

Yep. Though it's kind of a bummer, I'm glad in a way. Not that I have fair enough knowledge to feel this way necessarily, but I don't think Usagi would've fit in as well in this series as he had in the past. Most especially 'cause of CGI. Hard to picture it. Anyway, (not that I don't love Usagi to death, believe me I do) I'm really only disappointed 'cause I know now I won't see another rad Usagi figure from Playmates again.

Can't they make figures based on the comic character or earlier appearances for their "classic" line?
It is sad though that we wont see him but at the same time it's good because we wont have to worry about not doing him justice.

Well, they don't own Usagi, so they'd have to ask permission. But seeing how it won't be connected to Pete I doubt Stan would have interest.

It is a bummer that we won't get anymore Usagi crossovers, but at least we still have the Usagi ongoing comic series at Dark Horse where we get to see him. It's not like the disappointment of not seeing Bebop and Rocksteady in the new toon, cause there isn't any other ongoing series where we can see those guys.

Usagi's not on it now. But you never know. Maybe Peter will be gracious to sell Usagi to Nick or something. At this point, it doesn't bother me as much. Usagi has been its own franchise. I don't think we need him on TMNT just yet.

Peter doesn't own Usagi, Stan Sakai does. The only reason Usagi appears in any TMNT media is because they are buddies

My guess is that they're friendly, but not tight. I just think that Peter's style is more like Stan's (and I mean personally, not artistically).

:tmad:Don't downplay a new style; we've had CGI versions since the turn of the century! But Usagi is more of a niche character anyway, so unless there is a license for him, don't look for him.

I don't know... I don't like the look of the new toon. They look like they're made out of clay and more like.. Toddler Mutant Ninja Turtles. I'm kinda glad I have the comics to hold on in case I don't like the new toon.

Ok so am I the only one that freakin loves ninja rabbits? If they bring anyone back into the Nick TMNT, they need to bring the furry bodyguard Usagi Yojimbo, anyone agree or disagree?
Jester

I'd love to see the samurai rabbit in the new toon, but Miyamoto Usagi only showed up in previous Turtle mediums because of Stan Sakai's relationship with Peter and Mirage. With the Turtles out of Mirage hands...we may not see Usagi in the new show.

Although I'd love to see Usagi back, it won't happen anytime soon. Sorry to burst your bubble.
And Usagi is a samurai rabbit, not a ninja. He would be insulted to be called such.

Yes, Usagi does not like ninja. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRNnszNEf50&t=2m29s)

While it is sad that we will not see Usagi in this incarnation I'm not as upset as I thought I'd be about it. He is an amazing character and I really liked what he added to 2k3. However I think between the old comics and the 2k3 show we have something golden, something special that should be left as is. I don't think there is anything new or different that can be done that wouldn't tarnish the character.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are like 17 comments in this thread that mention that Sakai has said that Usagi will NOT be in the new toon. It's a very depressing conclusion.

Maybe Nickelodeon will have the writers come up with their own mutant rabbit character as an homage to Usagi.

I think I'd rather they didn't...I mean if "other" rabbits in TMNT history don't hold a candle to Usagi.
