I am at the Licensing Expo and stepped over an interesting floormat! Hope this works - tried to post it six times from my iPhone!

If someone can edit this for me so it shows the photo I'd appreciate it!

EDIT: Okay guys, I'm home! I blew the pics up and adjusted the contrast a little, if anyone wants a better look. I like the designs more and more each time I see them.

Uggggg.....three freakin toes...I simply don't get it.

At least the new comics are sticking to 2 toes. I don't get why Nick is sticking to this change. Make no sense - in fact, it makes their feet and footprint appear to be completely round. The rest of the look is, alright though. Better than the first glimpse we got of them, imo.

Also, it appears that the heads are still a bit too round for my taste....though It's really hard to tell what the final look will be from a still shot.

^ Hahha :) Seriously though, wtf???? I don't dig the wraps or the lack of muscle tone, but I can definitely deal with them. Overall, they still look like the TMNT....but that toe is border line flabbergasting to me.

I mean - look at the new comic (in Powder's sig) - There is a perfect compromise in giving the show a "new" look that Nick wants, but still being true to every previous incarnation.

I dig the wraps, and I assume the lack of muscle tone is to streamline the animation a bit, but I agree, that third toe has me floored. I mean, what's the reason for it? It's a minor change to be sure, but one that just doesn't seem to have any proper logic behind it.

It's there to drive us mad, MAD I TELL YOU!!!

This is how I see the third toe:

Ever travel? Spend all day knowing you forgot to pack something? Ever feel relieved when you discover what it is you know you forgot because then at least you can stop wondering about it?

That's how I feel about this third toe.
I'm choosing to believe that this third toe is going to be the ONLY thing I'm going to dislike about this show, and I'm choosing to feel relieved about already knowing what that thing is.

06-14-2011, 03:20 PM
perhaps....PERHAPS - in Nicks decision to go with a "younger, more true to life teenager" angle for this show, the 3rd toe is something the guys have from birth....and as the show progresses and the guys grow up a bit and become more mature, it drops off as some sort of cycle of puberty?!?!?

...........perhaps? Ok - I admit it. I'm desperate for a logical explanation of this damned 3rd toe and willing to accept just about ANY explanation that results in the elimination of it. Is there some sort of # we can call to demand they fix this? :) lol

Enough whining about the 3rd toe guys. I get it, it seems pointless but their feet are very round and stylized, so you can hardly tell it's there.

Thanks Cure! The iPhone sucks for posting pics to these types of forums.

I think the models look pretty good compared to earlier pictures. The third toe is odd but the pads and bandages look better and the heads don't look as rounded as they did before.

I must say, I am now REALLY EXCITED!!!!!:thyper: I looked at the picture. Oh my God!!!! The turtles look awesome! :tgrin: I love the bandana strip length. I even love the eye pupils. It makes them look more realistic. The tape and the bandages, along time ago, got me a little iffy. But I love it now. The TMNT look better than TNM ones. Plus, I get what you're rationalizing. The third toe would match with the 3 fingers on each of their hands. My only problem is, how are they going to wear open-toed shoes? Also, if they (or Leonardo) ever did, how could they wear tabi socks? I can get through it if it comes on. But since the show is coming next year, I really want the third toe to be reconsidered. Is there any way I can request Nickelodeon to get rid of the third toes? If so, please let me (and most of us) know.:tsmile:

Different length bandannas is cool. I like how Raph's is a little torn up. I could care less about the number of toes, it makes sense to have the same number of toes as ya do fingers... Even if the show premiers in fall 2012 I think we'll definitely see the turtles at SDCC, they've been showing the turtles every chance they get. I like the designs, I don't mind the third toe on the pictures though I'm sure it'll bother me in figure form since I'll be there to compare them with the others and actually take notice.

Raph seems to have no pupils but it might just be the pic, I kinda hope they go for a style that has pupils but they get rid of the pupils when they are fighting or some trade off like that. Best of both worlds.

For the most part I think the designs are cool. I don't mind the bandages. But the three toes still just make me scratch my head. I picture some nick executives demanding the third toe simply because of the turtles have three fingers. Honestly they look less awkward then I originally pictured but they're awkward in a different way. They look almost like the turtles are wearing shoes. Yep, because it's a change for no apparent reason. The TMNT have a 27 year history and defined/understood "look". Adding an additional body part is a little odd.

It's not a HUGE deal, but it's annoying. And voicing our opinion is what we're all here to do - discuss our thoughts on things, good and bad. Welcome to forums.

Regarding the feet/wraps - I thought the exact same thing. The third toe, coupled with the feet "wraps" makes it look like they are wearing shoes. Not digging it. Wow, they look a lot better now! Still a bit too young and childish in my opinion.. the '03 Turtles could easily beat these guys. Not to mention Shredder - lol that would just be not fair. Not that that has anything to do with the designs, those idiotic little thoughts just cross my mind.

They look really young, also. Younger than any incarnation I've seen yet. Leonardo's look is good - his expression really makes me think of an honorable, brave leader. Mikey's expression is too cliché. Every wacky character has that, I'd kinda like something different. Raphael would be much better without the eyes. I'm gonna miss his 40-year old voice from the '03 Toon.

From the looks, I get this weird feeling that they're young and really unexperienced, like they just started and try to be brave and hero-like, but actually are not but do keep trying to be like that.
I'd make them an older look in next seasons, and slowly make them more experienced and actually become the heroes they're trying to be, although their childish-behaviour will still be there now and then. They'll just handle serious situations more, well, SERIOUS, in next seasons.

I know, I don't make sense.

That's not the same as turning Shredder into a space slug. I don't mind adding new characters if it makes sense and they are well conceived/written...but changing one of the core characters to that extent (like they did to 2K3 Shredder) is blasphemous. So far, we haven't heard of anything that drastic....the closest comparison would be making April a teenager.

I don't mind adding new characters if it makes sense and they are well conceived/written...but changing one of the core characters to that extent (like they did to 2K3 Shredder) is blasphemous. So far, we haven't heard of anything that drastic....the closest comparison would be making April a teenager.

I don't see the problem. Its not like his human facade disappeared, we saw plenty of Oroku Saki in Season 3.

Based on the looks, not at all. And I'm basing everything on the looks right now, as the only decent images we have are these pictures.

But...they are young and childish.

Yea, they are. But these look tóó young and childish. I would've liked a slightly older look, but not like adults. In their teens, like they're supposed to be.
It all depends of the tone of the show, ofcourse - I'm just basing my opinions on the kind of show I want - not too wacky and lighthearted, but not extremely dark either.

You're in luck. Sean Astin just turned 40 this year.

Perhaps I should have added 'tough-sounding guy' or'harcore-smoker' to my sentence. Yup, that'd be better.

I third toe is one thing , turning a great character of 20 plus years of history into a space slug is another

I assume you are referring to the OT Shredder? I agree his was a great character in a comedic sense. OT Shredder was more of a jester than a truly dangerous man. His schemes were often ridiculous (Pizza by the Shread anyone?). The only reason Shredder was a "great character of 20 plus years of history" was because of his silly OT incarnation.

2k3 shredder was much more dangerous and serious than OT shredder ever was, regardless of his status as a "space slug." A designation perhaps a bit too derogatory as the utroms are a force to be reckoned with. Very smart race with incredible capabilities.

Making shredder an utrom may not sit well with everyone, that much is clear. However, 2k3's version of shredder was the most dangerous and bad ass version in my opinion. Much more so than the silly OT character

I don't understand these? What are you using as a reference to judge the age of mutant turtles?

Technically, Splinter was around the same age as the turtles, perhaps younger!

First off, I saw the other pictures from the event. Wow! Now they really look FANTASTIC!!!!:tgrin: Leonardo looks awesome, and I really have no problem with the blue eyes. He's starting to look like Skipper from the Penguins of Madagascar. He could say things like, "Just smile and wave, turtles. Smile and wave.", or "Donatello, options!", or maybe even "Cute but dangerous, boys. Cute but dangerous." :tlol: Raph looks even better now, too. Also, I have noticed a few freckles on their skin. Now they are beginnig to look realistic. Maybe these guys won't really behead the OT turtles, but they may decapitate the 2k3 ones (not because I never liked that series) because of how detailed the CGI ones are going to look.

Just to add: They look like teenagers here. The TMNT has always been 15 years old from the start. Unlike the changes of Splinter having a daughter or April attending high school, I must say, you can't really change everything when it comes to the turtles themselves. They don't look younger at all. It's TMNT. They've gotta be 15 (or 16 for Leo). Overall, Nickelodeon has impressed me once again. Enough with SpongeBob and Dora and even that Big Time Rush. It's time to bring in the real deal. Turtle power!:tsmile:

While I agree fans should get an explanation for the third toe, I think 5 pages of complaining about the aforementioned change is overly redundant.

I'm as nit-picky as the next (the height bothered me more than any other aspect in the early days of press - now I'm over it) but honestly I do not mind the third toe one bit. I think it looks cool, and these new pictures show amazing quality and mucho promise. Flat out, I'm loving these designs. It looks like an edge to me, like the top part of the head goes down and outward, while the end of the snout (the line) goes downward and in. Since the light's coming from upwards, that's why it's darker there.

I don't get people that complain about people complaining. If you want to read through a thread that only discusses what people like, or are happy about - why not start one yourself? Otherwise, all threads/topics are for people to have open DISCUSSIONS about their thoughts on things (good, bad, and everything in-between). Just because someone's opinions or thoughts don't coincide with yours, doesn't make them any less valid, nor does it mean they should have to sit back and not join in on the conversation.

I agree that most of us should hold judgement until we see the final product, however, people can and will form their opinions and assumptions now if they so choose. Nobody is forcing anyone to read through anything. I don't agree with everything everyone says, but you won't see me asking people to "spare me" from their opinion.

And also from these same people that complain, but when watching it will claim it's the greatest thing they've ever seen. I don't care if you have an opinion on the show: good or bad. You can't at least wait until you've seen ONE episode before making a snap criticism?

There were people saying the same thing when promo images were coming out for the first X-Men movie. "Oh, this sucks....they're in all black. This movie is going to suck". Oh yeah? Well, 5 movies later, with more on the way, they seem to be doing okay. And those negative nellies were eating crow.

I do like the overall look of the turtles but...

Nick, if your people are reading this- GET RID OF THE THIRD TOE YOU F**KING SCHMUCKS.
I totally agree with you on this, bro. Why are they messing with an established design for the boys? It's got me beat. Guess I'll get used to it just like everybody else, though.....

Which is NOT to say that I will be DRAWING them with three toes. I've drawn them with only two for all the years that I've been drawing them, and I ain't about to change that now! That may not be canon for the Nick TMNT, but that's the way I feel.

On another note, I'm liking the fact that they all have different EYE-colors, as well as skin-colors (thank you, NICK for stick with the skin-colors that they had in the 2K3 Toon! (I think.)) I kinda figured that MIKEY would have blue eyes (they look like a kinda SKY-blue to me, actually), but Leo having blue eyes kinda threw me for a minute. Not anything that I won't get USED to, tho. (Heck, in my TMNT fanart and fanfics, I always give him (and usually Raph, especially if I make them twins in said fics and art) blue eyes. Usually MIDNIGHT-blues ones, actually.

(Although I did like the eye color he had in the 2K7 TMNT movie. Kind of a honey-brown/hazel color. VERY nice!)

Donnie having brown eyes is cool, too; just the color that I kinda expected for him. Raph's being green, though? TOTALLY unexpected. I was REALLY hoping that they'd go with the amber-gold color that they had in the 2K7 movie. (Unless THAT detail is exclusive to Warner Bros.? Dunno.)

And thankies for posting the lovely pics, guys. They are WAY past cool!!!:tgrin:

I can't wait to see Splinter's design since he's supposed to be 6ft or something in this version.
Well, he's SUPPOSED to be Hamato Yoshi himself (like in the Classic TMNT), rather than Master Yoshi's pet rat (like in the 2K3 one, and that I was personally hoping WOULD be the case, but oh, well.........), so maybe 6' tall is how tall that Yoshi is in the new series.

(Rather they'd shrunk him down to the size that he was in the OT, if they were gonna make him Yoshi, rather his pet rat, but oh, well, again.)

I can't imagine us seeing the toes much during the show anyway. The Turtles walking around or talking usually have the camera cut them off by their torso.

During fight scenes when they kick the animation will likely move so fast you won't even notice.

I imagine the only time they'll be noticeable is in meditation scenes where their legs are cross and you see their feet.

The more and more I look at the way this show looks I just feel sad for the TMNT. They seriously ruined their look.

I miss 2k3. I wonder when they're going to show that again.

Don't feel sad. I'm positive this will be a great show. Just give it a chance. I gave the 2k3 one a chance. It did not work out. I'm going to try this one now. Already I'm excited. :tgrin:

BTW: I don't think Nick ruined their look. They look a lot more interesting, like a mix of the 2k7 film with the 2k3 look. So what if they have three toes now. Sure I'd like that part to be changed, but I'm getting used to it.

Which leads me to question: Why haven't you guys requested Nickelodeon to get rid of the extra toes? :tconfuse:

I don't know, I just can't watch something without liking the way it looks. This show went too far. They're heads look weird, their feet are just horrible, I don't know why people like the skinny arms with fat forearms thing. That TMNT movie was bad news. It ruined how the turtles looked in BttS, the toys, and now this show looks like it's trying to resemble that but worse. I didn't like how they looked in TMNT, but now, compared to this, TMNT looks a whole lot better.

Last update: I edited my first post to show the photos with the contrast turned up a little. They look more like they did in person.

All the licensing magazines and stuff they passed out failed to mention the TMNT beyond a basic "Nickelodeon is also working on a new TMNT cartoon." The cover of one magazine had fully rendered images of SpongeBob and Dora but no TMNT. Maybe next year!

Are their feet tape different colors? I always thought they were white on all of them. Now, it seems that Leo is white, Don is beige, Mike is brown, and Raph is black. Is it me, the lighting, or am I right?:tconfuse: I was not sure I would like it at first. However, this may make them look cooler.

I am 100% with you on those complaints.
I usually like "cute" things but I never wanted to see the style for turtles go there. I assume they are really trying to make them look adolescent. The arms and legs look backward to me
I dislike the pupils and Raph having green eyes but there on eye color I admit I am nitpicking
Someone said something that made sense at the beginning of this thread, I didn't think that the extra toes was meant to match the hands not that I am behind it I just didn't think of it that way.

I am hoping they have some amazing lighting/shadows styles and effects planned for this as well as the actual animation. Need to see more...

I have high hopes for this show. Since Nick are the owners they should give it star treatment and make sure it's their next big hit. The designs are fine it's really how they're animated in motion that will count.

As long as the show doesn't wind up like Next Mutation's cheesiness I'll hope to enjoy it.

Let's hope the CG animation doesn't look as bad as the new Green Lantern cartoon that will air on Cartoon Network soon, (its CG):

You think that looks bad? I think it's a neat style. The proportions kinda give me a (lower-budget) Incredibles vibe.

Yeah. That Green Lantern cartoon looks pretty good. The animation is stunning, I will admit. My problem is, as much as I loved the Green Lantern movie, I am DC and Marvel’d out. I don’t feel like watching their series for now. Plus, I don’t have Cartoon Network anymore. But I still have Nickelodeon, which means I may be able to watch TMNT on the TV. That is what I really want to see.

UPDATE: I’ve lost Nickelodeon on my T.V.:tcry: Dang it!:tmad:

I was wondering about that myself. The actually Nickelodeon channel hasn't had new episodes of cartoons for the longest as far as I have seen. The only thing on there most of the time is 4 hour long marathons of Spongebob and their live action stuff.

My bets are on the new TMNT show being on the Nicktoon channel.

I'm sure it will be on Nickelodeon. They'd be idiots to put it exclusively on Nicktoons because only people with a cable box get that channel.
Supa Ninjas is Nick, for example, so I expect other new shows to be there as well. Nicktoons is like the home of wayward animation.

I asked this same question recently on the Nick TMNT thread. CyberCubed said that it's supposed to air on the actual Nickelodeon channel. My bet is the 2k3 series will be on Nicktoons because it was made in the past. This TMNT is serious to them, I've got the feeling it will air on Nickelodeon. The only time it may be on Nicktoons is if the show is in syndication.

Hmmmm, I'll reserve my opinion until I see the finished product on the Turtle's looks. When I first stumbled on the 2k3 toon, I wrote it off because it was distracting having the Turtles with no pupils. But I put it aside and watched it, and found it to be a good show. That is, until the FF came on, and it was just too corny. I stopped watching it after like 4 episodes.

But, I like the pupils and the different eye colors. That's a plus for me.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on a minute here! It's NOT supposed to be on NickToons?! Since when?! I'VE been under the impression that it was supposed to be on THAT channel along with Voltron Force and Kung Fu Panda! At least, that's what I've been reading on their/Rose's updates!

*groans* Can SOMEONE steer me to some accurate info? I'd appreciate it!

On another note, if any of you guys DONT get NickToons on your cable service, just call 'em and bug 'em TO carry it! They'll USUALLY listen if enough customers call/write/e-mail and bug 'em about it enough.

Oooooor, if you can afford satelitte service, and it's available in your area, go with that. My family has DirecTV satelittel, and we LOVE it!

Er, well, EXCEPT for on teeny, tiny l'il thing. You guys think that YOU'RE unlucky in not getting NickToons? Try not having G4 on your listings after about 5 year of having it on your service. We had it when we still had Dish Network, which is how I was able to watch the coverage of the SanDiego Comic Con for the past 5 years. Well, guess what?! DirecTV DOESN'T have G4, and HASN'T had it since last November due to, to quote the DirecTV representative that I recently talked via telephone, "Not being able to reach an agreement with (or come to terms with; can't remember exactly which one she said) G4, end-quote.:tmad::tgrumble: All of which means that, UNLESS I can get the Internet hooked up at home BEFORE Comic Con takes place, I'll miss what coverage of it that G4 does have on their network! Oh, okay! I guess I just misunderstood you, Rose. Silly, silly me.:tlol::twink::toops:

And that WOULD probably explain why I've never found the info for it on the NickToons Page at the Nick website. Heh, guess I'll just have to go exploring on the rest of the site to see if I can't find the TMNT stuff.

Me. neither, but that could be the case. Have to keep checking on it, I guess.

As far as a TMNT Toon BEING on NickToons, maybe the 2K3 one was the one that they were taling about in that press release they issued back in 2010 sometime saying that there IS going to be a TMNT Toon ON NickToons at some point in the future. Dunno.

I haven't seen Kung Fu Panda yet, but I did check out Winx yesterday, and I love it. Despite the fact that the voices are a bit different from the 4Kids version, it's still good. I think they're going more towards the Italian version as there were things in there that weren't in the 4Kids version. Either way, I'm happy to see Winx again and hope that they'll continue the series on where 4Kids left off.
