Can anyone confirm this? I don't have this particular issue in hand yet. But is there any truth to this auction or is this seller just spewing BS?

Wondered when word of this was going to spread. They aren't the same price so you will get the normal red unless you paid the huge markup for the orange.

Jetpack is not differentiating between the two though.

You know what companies should do, make comics, then make variants to make more money, then purposely making variants with errors to convince even more people to to buy overpriced stuff that isn't really rare at all. If I ran a comic company, that's what I would do lol. Makes you wonder if all of the new comics being released with errors are on purpose or not, trying to cash in on the old days of misprints and errors. I am still tempted to buy this though, those damn comic companies know how to get me.... sigh*

Anyone have any idea of how many issues have the orange tint?

If you would have read the auction, the seller states 400 have the orange cover but a large quantity of the 400 were damaged in transit so less than 400, depending on if they are selling the damaged ones.

Seeing as how I already have a red version of this variant, do you think its worth the 40 bucks to buy this orange version of the variant? Help me decide lol!!!

Id like to believe that but the skeptic in me is screaming No freakin way. The red was a thousand copies and the orange was 400 with a good chunk damaged. If you think about it, it doesn't make good business sense to sell a rarer variant copy for the same price as a more readily available version.Supply and demand.
I fully expect to see mint copies of the orange popping up for double or triple or even quad plus the price. Ill gladly admit I was wrong if folks order the variant for regular price and get a mint orange. Im waiting to hear back from Jetpack myself.

How to make your own "ULTRASUPERRARE!" orange Jetpack #1:
1. Place your red Jetpack #1 in a window facing the sun or under florescent lights.
2. Wait until the color fades and enjoy.

I cant believe there is this many variants. anyone know whats the most variants for a single comic? Not including reprints. I would imagine this one is getting close.

Yes and they're mostly charity covers that show Godzilla stomping on various comic book shops around the world. The proceeds went to Japan Tsunami relief..

Being an error in the first place, does it really matter the condition of the comic?

It does to those who are getting it graded. Condition directly translates to dollar amount when it comes to graded books.

Maybe its just me but if I was going to dish out $50 id like a guarantee on the condition of the comic rather then some vague sales pitch with a made up rating.

If they do a purple and blue I will buy those but a slight variation of the red color combined with the quiality issues just don't make the purchase worth it to me. Happy for the error collector out there though.

As for color comparison. The side by side looks exactly like the picture I posted earlier in this thread. Though admittedly, if I didnt have a regular version to compare it to, I dont know that I would immediately pick up on the difference.

Ebay. I was the first purchase from that seller, so maybe I got lucking having the pick of the lot.
I have a feeling that the ebay seller is involved with the store somehow. The book came packaged exactly like it would from Jetpack.

Eh, if I get one I'll go with the 19.99 version; and error is an error, and while cool I don't intend on getting it graded.

So I just found an interesting blog about this "error vartiant" that raises a lot of valid questions. I personally agree with everything this guy questions in the blog, which again validates my reasoning for not buying this error. Here are the questions posed in regards to the TMNT #1 Jetpack "Orange Error":
* Why all the detail about how it all went down? It’s intended to validate but it gives me a “PR” and publicity vibe. It makes for a good story but wouldn’t a simple “the printer used the wrong color on some of them” suffice? Remember the mystique of all the previous TMNT error editions? They were rumored to exist for years and then only appeared here and there. Details about them were validated by Eastman & Laird but only in brief and with limited details.
* Why such a nice and organized “tiered” pricing structure for copies in Low, Mid, and High grades? There’s been a lot of thought put into that…maybe too much thought…maybe planned.
* Why charge up to $50 each for these error copies? They didn’t cost any more to make than the non-error copies so why not offer them on a “first come/first served” basis while supplies last for what the regular editions sold for ($14.99; which is already pricey if you ask me)? Pricing like this for error comics is what the secondary market should be driving…NOT the publisher or the variant creator. That’s a huge conflict of interest if you ask me. When the TMNT #1 25th Anniversary color reprint error edition was sold off by Mirage it was offered on their website on a “first come/first served” basis while supplies lasted for $1 each!! That’s $2.25 less than the cover price !! Now those copies sell for much more than that but Mirage didn’t determine that…the market did.
* Jetpack Comics talks a lot about their “close history” with Peter and Kevin and they are obviously very excited about that. By creating variant covers for the first five IDW TMNT comics (#1, 2, 3, 4, and Raphael) they’re clearly wanting to stay connected with TMNT history and pay special tribute to the TMNT. But, by Jetpack’s own admission, the TMNT Jetpack variant is Jetpack’s best-selling variant comic of all time. Now this error edition surfaces…right after record sales for the non-error #1 Jetpack variant. Five variant covers and record sales are great but an error variant? Well, that would even further embed Jetpack (and its owners) into the “Turtle Lore” that they so reverently cling to, right? And they certainly are proud of this error edition that just happened to be. Was Mirage ever this proud of their mistakes?
* Finally, I find it extremely odd that Jetpack Comics felt it was necessary to provide the following statement within their story about this error edition: “It is important that people keep in mind that publishers and printers do not create collectibles.” Really? Isn’t that EXACTLY what has happened here through the selling of error editions for nearly triple the price of the non-error copies? No one can truly validate whether this error edition was accidental or planned but it’s easily validated that Jetpack Comics has pre-determined that these are collectibles simply by pricing them as such. Whether or not you believe the story of how these error copies came to be, just do the math and you’ll see that Jetpack Comics is going to profit significantly from this “mistake.”

I bought 7 covers for issue 1 ( including the 2nd printing Eastman sketch cover i bought today ) but i am not "that" completist so passed on those other store exclusive covers and such.
but paying 50 bucks and not having a guarantee about the condition seemed like a black comedy to me.

Got my Jetpack Error variant in the mail today! I opted for the "low" grade book for 19.99 and I'll be darned if the thing isn't in just as good a shape as my Blood Red edition.
Perhaps it's just luck of the draw on what condition the book is in.

Hi guys, Turtles editor Bobby Curnow here. I lurk all the time here, but this is my first post... basically my feeling is that this is your guy's place, and you don't need me in the midst of things. I've got a thread at the IDW forums where I answer all questions as clearly as I can, if anyone ever does have a question.
With that out of the way, I feel compelled to comment on this... The orange Jetpack error was in no way intentional. It is what it is, a fluke. I always dig conspiracy theories though, and it is an interesting take, Fantomex... but yeah, just a printer error. IDW sets the price on the normal covers, RE and RI covers (Retail exclusive, and retail incentive), the price is set by the retailer.
Hope that clears things up a little bit.
Thanks for being awesome fans, guys.

Thanks for clearing that up, it is actually nice to hear from someone from the source comment on this error! I am in no way against IDW or Jetpack, as I love both companies and respect them, I just wanted to show some points that seemed suspicious (I found that whole post on someone elses blog). Thanks for clearing up the rumors again, keep up the good work!
