Out of all the TMNT figs that you owned/own what was your favourite?
*looks to shelf* Ah..my favourites were the TMNT Mutations. I have all of the TMNT from that series; Leo (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/1992/mutatinl.htm), Raph (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/1992/mutatinr.htm), Mikey (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/1992/mutatinm.htm) & Don (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/1992/mutatind.htm).

*gets Raph off shelf and mutates him* Damn, they're just too cool!

What was your favourite series of TMNT figs?

Mica

DAMN? my FAVE? That's tough.. I'd have to say the Universal Studios Monsters hold a special place in my heart because they glow in the dark! (and the ones that don't {invisble mike, bride of frankie april, etc..} are just cool anyway) But the NT:TNM figs and movie tmnt (w/ REAL FEEL TURTLE SKIN!) are too awesome too

Oh yeah! Movie Star Turtles were my first favorites! I bought those when they first came out.

Then last year I was at Lisardo's house, when I noticed she had these Leo and Raph figures that looked like the Mirage turtles, and could backflip. He Leo always landed on his feet, while the Raph didn't. Anyways, I immediately fell in love with those "Ninja Action" figures too.

And then the unusual Donatello figure I got as a prize was a Spring Action one. They are hard plastic, and looks like they have been pumped up on steriods. All the joints are connected with springs so you can make it look like they are kicking and punching.

Mica

Those Coil action (the springy springy steriods turtlez) are SCARY! I *finally* have a Leo (decided to break down and FINALLY spend the $3.50 for him after seeing him for months at the flea market) and I'm afraid I'll break him.. Coil Force was one of the few figures I remeber being in toy stores (what can I say, I'm a late bloomer when it comes to my TMNT obsession, I never wanted them 'til the end) but I decided to buy the dino TMNT instead of the coil force.. and I like the Dino-TMNT better

As for the Ninja Action ones... (the miragish ones that can flip) I loved them, but I've always had a hankering to take one of them apart and try to make it work better (put a new suction cup of something in there) I guess that's just my Donnie side..

I love the THUNDER THRASHER NT:TNM Turtles  FINALLY, Turtles with decent looking clothes without the grossout factor of the origanal series or the skin tight of the orig series. I esp liked Venus with Raver pants  hee hee

Hah.. trust me, I haven't broke Spring Donnie yet! He's been made fun of by my husband (wondering where his dick was), played by Lisa, had his joins pulled on to the max by me, fell off my work PC a few times (gnad office janitors), and even went back to the Detroit Con in 2001. Tokka donated him as a prize for the 2000 Turtle Con, so of course my Spring Donny is special. I'll take him over a plushie anyday!

Ohh.. and Spring Donny does have screws too...

My bro and I used to unscrew our Transformers and totoally take them them apart to see who could put there's all the way back together again. I guess just transforming them wasn't exciting anymore.

Well, I'm trusting you then HosieTortle. And I'm coming after you with my shovel if you lied and Leo breaks! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

All this action figure talk is getting me thinking about changing up my figs ont he desk (which means putting away the ones I have up, and getting out new ones to display for a while) Maybe I'll put some Xmen Evo ones up there... hmmm...

*hehe* Yeah... I had Movie Donnie on my work PC for the first year I was here... but that skin fo his relaly liked to attract the dust. Turtle hair... that's a wicked invention, Don!!

So then I put Springy Donny ontop of my monitor last summer, leaning on a little Xerox machine stress-squeezer toy. When I get my Ninja Action Raph... I'l have him and Donny face off.

Mica

LOL! So right now it's SPRIONGY DON VS THE ZEROX MACHINE! hee hee I've got 3 of the 4 Turtle Balls on top of my Monitor. Mikey Ball, Donnie Ball, and Raph Ball and a dead furby. And they do get fairly dusty... prolly cuz i forget they are up there

Here you go. How to make Turtle Nuts.

makes 1 turtle
You need:
1 whole walnut (in the shell)
12 small green fuzzy balls
1 medium-size green fuzzy ball
3 inches of ribbon, (Blue, Red, Orange, or Purple)
2 googly eyes
1 gluegun
1 adult or person authorized to use gluegun

Take 3 small fuzzy balls and glue them together in a straight line.
Repeat 3 more times. these are arms and legs.
Glue these onto the walnut, the pointy end should be down (ie: tail)
Glue the medium fuzzy ball onto the round end of the walnut (where the
stem breaks off). This is the head.
Take a piece of ribbon (choose your fave!) and wrap it around the head
and glue it in place. trim excess or leave it as it is, your choice.
Glue the googly eyes to the ribbon.

if you want, you can use leather thong or other odds and ends for belt
+ accessories.

You could always use Crazy glue instead, HT.. it's CRAAAAAZY!... but hmm.. I'm not sure that's safe *has this image of HT trying to drive to the hospital with her hand glued to her cheek and spoingy donnie glued onto her other hand* ut-oh...

Hey, this is sorta back on topic... Does anyone have any tips for action figure maintanence?

I bought some used ones and they feel kinda greasy to me. I figure washing them with soap and water should be save, shouldn't it?

And...they've also got some paint damage. Anyone know what sort of paints people who customize action figures use?

Mica
04-11-2002, 11:34 PM
dudette, soap and water work good. also, a soft bristled toothbrush works wonders... As for paint, use the model builders paint that they sell in the same isle they sell the model kits (it comes in tiny lil bottles about the size of nail polish) BTW, DON'T use nail polish. test it on a action fig that you have 2 of to make sure it dries to the right color when applied to plastic. (I use a don that's missing his left arm for this, you should see him, he's VERY colorful

Okay, here's another action figure refurbishing question. The model paint comes in enamel and acrylic. Does either kind work? (I never really got into painting and the one class I took years ago was purely oil paints.) And what about brush cleaning, will I need anything special for that?

Skeletoncrew
04-16-2002, 01:46 PM

So did no one have an opinion on enamel v. acrylic?

Mica
04-16-2002, 01:50 PM
namek.. I have looked all over my bottle... but i've never heard of enamel or acrylic model pain. Mine's just professional model paint. I'll ask at the comic shop when i go (Mr. Comic guy does a lot of models and action figure refurbishings too  ) hmmm...

I found this on page 18 of the latest ToyFare. Its accompanied by a cut-out graphic of Michaelangelo from the cover of TMNT #2.

Turtle Time?

Turtles live a long time, so rest assured that the mega-popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property is still alive, kickin’ and ready to pop out of its shell for a big comeback in the entertainment world…and possibly toys

“Mirage has renewed its master toy license agreement with our original and one-and-only toy company, Playmate Toys,” said Mirage CEO Gary Richardson

With the Turtles returning to comics with a bang, thanks to Mirage’s new bi-monthly, black and white TMNT comic by co-creator Peter Laird and penciler Jim Lawson, the next question is obvious; where are the turtle toys?

“At this point, new toys will most likely be based on new entertainment, whether movie, TV, direct-to-video, or video games,” said Richardson about the prospect of upcoming toys.

Now would be the time to blow the dust off those nunchucks. Turtle Power!

They also mentioned http://customizeit.tripod.com/ For help customizing figures.

HorseTechie

Geeeeez! And I thought the world of customized model horses was big business.

Well.. from my model horse experinces, I heard an air brush and the paint you use with those works out real well if you want a nice finish. But only the well-paid artists were able to afford a set up like that.

I used acrylic paints on mine... and to keep the paint from getting scratched off, I also used a primer and a varnish.

First I sand down the model/figure a bit with a fine grade snadpaper so the primer has something to grip. Paint on one coat. let it dry. Pain on another coat, let it dry. Then I use the acrylic paints. I also heard oil paints atre even better if you know how to use those. Then after the paint is dry, use a matte varnish to seal the paint. This is what I did for the full-out custom jobs. (more detailed stuffs http://www.riorondo.com/resinhorse/info/prepwork.html )

(That's one draw back with those Movie Star figures.. the arms/legs and head are too rubbery to be repainted in that fashion! But I had fun painting the shells.)

For touch-ups, enamels sound like a better choice. Or if there are those permanent paint pens... those might be good for the lil scuffs and things.

This site may be for model horses, but it's also a good place to order leather lace and cool looking buckles if you want to make lil leather belts and stuff for your figures too.

Wow. You know, I've always been impressed with all the work that goes into those model horses.

I went ahead and tried out my acrylic model paint today. (I just have a bottle of glossy black at the moment.) I painted over my Splinter's eyes with it...he looks SO much better with shiny black eyes! I also touched up a few black areas on other figures, it seemed to blend in just fine.

Of course, now that I've done Splinter's eyes I'm thinking about making his tail pink and improving his fur coloring. His chest shouldn't be gray!

azure turtle
04-19-2002, 01:05 AM
I don't have a Splinter action fig.
*pouts*

Mica
04-19-2002, 06:04 AM
what? grey chest? *pulls out a splinter out of a bag in a closet* Ohhhh! You're right! .. well, with the turtles for kids, you're likely to get some grey fur

I agree on the tail shouldn't be gray, but what about the brown fur on the tail? you leave that be or file it off and reshape the plastic (don't laugh! there are people that do that!) I personally wish the orig splinter's ears were bigger. I like the NT:TNM splinter cuz he's spidleist, but I wish he didn't have the multi-color dreamcoat.. and heck, by the time NM figs came around, splints was a completely grey rat! notice?

Poor Azure. Were you the one who wanted a Leo plushie from me? Someone on these lists wanted one and tried to send me payment thru paypal and I think I forgot to contact them and tell them I can't take credit card payments... (it makes me change my account and charges me extra) but, if it IS you, i can send you a complete Splinter with all kimono and accessories when I send your leo plush for free. (I have a ton of figs) It's no biggie... any others you're looking for that I might be able to help you with? (No, i DONT have any extra scratch figs  heh, i don't even have one!)

If anyone is wondering, I have i think 2 Leo plushies up for grabs still (out of 5)

~Mica

Skeletoncrew
04-19-2002, 12:35 PM
Honestly, I hadn't thought about taking a file to the tail. It is rather stupid the way they sculpted it. Rat tails do have a light coating of fur...but not solid fur then skin!

I'm enjoying playing around with my figures like this. I'm going to have to go on ebay and buy some more loose assortments! (I only have 1 turtle right now, the rest are other characters.)

I haven't seen a NM Splinter in person, but I did kind of like the looks of him. Of course, having him grey makes him a blue rat, not a standard norweigan rat. (I used to have a blue rat, she was the SWEETEST little girl I had.)

Mica
04-19-2002, 01:24 PM
That got me thinking.. the reason splinter's smarter than an average sewer rat is because he's a japanese naitive rat and sewer rats are generally Norwiegan rats *EG* Ya! Shure! Ya Betcha!

But yeah.. whenever I get that out of box Ninja Action Raph figure, I'm thinking of customizing his look too.

I also will look just for the motorcycle from the TNM Biker raph set up. I already have the TNM Raph, and I can make the leather chaps for him instead (yeah, like I have the time!) So all I need is the hog!

Oh yeah... a "ree" is a cutesy-wootsy name for a rat. My college roomie, who's in love with rats as much as SC is, called them that. I thought it was cute, so I started calling rats rees too. In fact, that's where my other SN "sharee" came from. Back when I used to talk to Doramouse about my rees, and she nicked me that (since my RL nick had been Shari).

Actually, the conditon of my Nija Action figure will depend onhis condition. IF he's all scuffed up, them I'll prolly repaint his shell.

I'd sent them back and make a fuss, but then would she even get me the right order, if she can't get it right in the first place? So... anything sopecial about these figs that I should keep them.. or is anyone here insterested in a Mondo Gecko?

Mica
04-23-2002, 11:33 AM
Email her and try to get your money back, HT. That's your best bet. It makes me mad when Ebay ppl misrepresent. Tell her that if she doesn't want bad feedback, then she should send you the two action figures you won. If she doesn't follow thru, then give her bad feedback, that's what the feedback system is there for.

I recently got a renewed desire to begin collecting TMNT action figures once again. Ever since I got a MOC Shoot The Curl Don (who isn't MOC any more...I like to display my action figs outside of their packaging  ) I've been wanting to collect other TMNT action figs. I recently won an auction for a Princess Mitsu action figure, from the third TMNT movie, and I currently have my eyes on a Mikey action fig. Does anyone knew of a reliable online store that sells MOC TMNT action figs? I've tried doing several searches, and I've come up empty handed. Btw, you all won't believe this, but a MOC Scratch action fig recently sold for over 200 dollars on ebay! For those of you who don't remember, Scratch was the cat convict. Ace Duck: Yes! Fear me!

Hey HT, you don't remember the pyramids? They were introduced to our forum by yours truly waaaaaay back when we had a party for newbies...I think it was a party thrown when I first arrived here, or it could've been when Nun first got here...anyway, the point is, the party broke out into a paintball fight, and I used the pyramids for cover. And that's your forum history for the day! :anime:

Loolaa

Ace Duck: But...but...I'm your prized action fig! How can you treat me like this?

Ace Duck: AHHHHHHH!!!!

my favorite is probably the wacky action series, they had the coolest backing cards, and the toys rocked too! Mike's tounge, leo's scared face (so what else is new) raphs mean face (so what else is new), and don's cheerful face, all rocked. I loved that series.
