Well, not exactly, but close.

Good friend Angie Sternitzke clued me into this little gem from well over a decade ago on www.ninjaturtles.com back when Dan was doing the letters pages for each Turtle. There was one that was unlike other letters... for one, it had the distinction of apparently being the only "letter" that introduced a wholly original character. For another, it was long as hell, full story length.

Give it a read and share your thoughts. It's a cool blast from the past that I'd never read until now:

Interesting. I never even knew Dan wrote those "Turtle-grams" on the website. I guess I should have guessed since he was the web-master for all those years. That was an odd era for the ol' NT.com site!

This is a very odd mingling of Mirage, Image, NM, and FW (or is that Archie)...but sure is fun.

I loved those old tales but never saw this one before.
Wow a very fitting end/beginning for those characters.
I won't lie I shed a little tear reading about Savanti.

There are some other really great stories that Dan had done on the old site.
Some one should collect them in a book or something.
I believe at one point they even had Venus meeting the Mutanimals or something like that.

Dan Berger did many of these letters pages during the "Dead period" between Next Mutation and Volume 4.

It was basically fanfiction to keep the Turtle stories somewhat moving when there was no show on TV and no comics.

I remember reading these when I was like 12.

I'm sure it's not canon, but "fanfiction" certainly doesn't seem like the right term at all. I'm pretty sure that's an oxymoron if it's a creator writing the "fanfiction."

I *loved* these things back then, my favorite being the one where the rumblings in the underground about the son of Oroku Saki.

They felt like TMNTA 2.0, melding the different continuities like he did.

Well they certainly are "canon" to something, y'know, their own little universe. If there were distinct images for these stories, they would've showed up on Turtles Forever.

I remember reading these as a kid and loving them. I never saw this one, and even now I find myself not wanting to read that incredibly long story, haha but I don't doubt it's awesome. Read the first few paragraphs. Really cool stuff.

Do you guys have links to the other Turtles as well?

Go to http://www.archive.org and search the following URL:

That should lead you to the notes throughout the years.

Orrr hopefully Master Splinter can throw something together?

Awesome. It's like travelling backwards in time to the Internet's childhood. I know it's actually much older (starting 1969 in US military), but the Internet as we know it today isn't older than circa 1995 when it became a part of everyday life in the Western World.

Too bad I can't recover all the later TMNT comic strips through the internet archive. I think NT.com would only keep about 2 week's worth of strips on the site at one time before removing the old ones and uploading a new one.

Oh, don't you hate that? :ohwell: I spent a whole afternoon doing that with the internet archive, trying different month/year combos and changing the date in the URL to mine what I could-- wound up with 120 non-sequential strips for the effort and somehow that's even more frustrating...

I'd love to see an archive of these letters if someone else puts the time in. :tgrin:

That is only the beginning, there are a lot more that I will have to dig out of the wayback machine.

I have some political cartoons Berger has done, and I love them.
