Other than Splinter being Hamato Yoshi, has it been revealed that the origin will follow the Mirage/4kids or original cartoon origin or the new IDW series origin?

Meaning will the Turtles be back to ordinary pet story owned Turtles and train with Splinter for 15 years?

Nope .

From what I know, Saki and Yoshi had a duel in which Saki believed he had killed Yoshi. Yoshi then escaped to New York. Nothing was said about the Turtles, but Splinter's bio seems to imply that he and the Turtles have been living in the sewers together for a long time.

There's also some bit about Saki thinking his love was slain by Yoshi... not sure who that lost love is.
I wonder if it's Shen.

Effed up love triangle lol.

Anyways, I've thought about this a lot and have no idea how they're going to go about it. If Shredder thinks Yoshi's dead, there's no way he's the one who mutated them (like in the FW toon). And if Splinter was a human first, the standard Mirage/4kids origin doesn't really work (although you could adjust it a tad I guess).

But so far, there's no indication that this new universe even has "ooze"... just that mutation chamber The Kraang have.

15 years ago, Shredder newbornnapped 4kids from a hospital nursery as candidates for his mutation machine. They all came out turtles, which he promptly flushed. Yoshi found them in the sewers, and decided to raise them. Then, while exploring the sewers one day, Yoshi ran into The Rat King. The Rat King wasn't very hospitable as the only thing he gave his guest was a curse to become a rat for the rest of his life.

Or so I've heard... :tshifty:

Nah. That came off the top of my head. I just asked myself, "what would be really lame?" :D

That leans toward the OT given that in the first episode, Shredder felt dismayed when he said "That fighting style. It's of the Foot. Can it be that Hamato Yoshi still lives?", meaning that Saki thought he had killed Yoshi. And in the OT, the turtles very well could have been living with Splinter for quite a long time, given that when he first fled, there may not have been much crime in the city until it kept getting worse to the point where April called it a fact of day to day life. Still, I'd like to see Tang Shen (what that lost love Jester is pointing about) get involved more here unlike the OT.

Why don't we quit comparing origins already? Each universe has its own origin and its own set of rules. Granted there are some obvious paralells, but lets just call the Nickelodeon origin story the Nickelodeon origin story!

We'll call it that when we know what it is.

We have limited information, so we're just speculating on how it's gonna turn out. Continue with your fit though.

Every version has had a different origin. No two have been alike, some have been simular but still different. I expect the same here. It will be simular but it wont be the same.

Maybe you just meant motion picture origins?

TMNTA actually retconed the OT origin in issue #45.

I realized the other day no animated show has ever had an accurate Mirage origin and the Nick series is following that trend.

Considering Splinter was human and has a daughter I'd say so.

I hope the Turtles are pet store owned though. I'd rather not see
IDW's origin again.

I see nothing wrong with comparing origins, i mean, it's about the only way we can discuss it until more details are released.

It's like A, with bits of B and not much from C and so on.

I never read Dreamweave, did they really just take the OT origin?

No, Dreamwave was the comic based on the 4Kids cartoon series.

I'll be interested to see what new twists they add into this version. :)

Well every origin story is slightly different so this one probably will be as well but I hope that the turtles and splinter have been together for the 15 years because I always thought that made them more like a family.

I'm anxious to see how they handle the origin story. I think it'll be sort of like the FW toon but it might have a different side to it as well. We'll just have to wait and see.

If splinter.is yoshi then its likely gonna be reboot of the 87 cartoon with a similar origin.

Archie had the Splinter is Yoshi origin (though it was based on the FW series until it got 'good" :P). Heck, IDW kinda has the Splinter is Yoshi origin.

^^ Kinda? No, not at ALL
Just so nobody gets confused here
Mirage/Image comics, 1990 movie-Splinter is Yoshi's pet rat that mutates with the turtles being trained in Ninjitsu for self defense/killing Shredder.

OT,Archie-Splinter was Yoshi mutated along with the turtles after being exiled from the Foot Clan.

2K3, Dreamwave- Splinter was Yoshi's pet rat that watched his master killed by the Shredder and his Foot ninjas. This was the only origin in which Yoshi was never a part of the Foot Clan.

IDW- Splinter was a super intelligent lab rat that was mutated along with the turtles and was somehow the reincarnated version of a fuedal era ninja master Hamato Yoshi. He was reincarnated along with his four teenage sons that don't remember anything from their past life with the exception of the eldest brother.

No, Dreamwave was the comic based on the 4Kids cartoon series.

And it sucked. HARD. The art was kinda cool but nobody gave a damn about the Purple Dragon guy or Leo giving some kid self confidence.

I imagine the origin will incorporate elements of past origins while introducing a new twist on it. I'll be surprised if the Kraang aren't involved somehow. They'll be creating a mutant army of their own, so I imagine that bit of tech will be involved with mutating Yoshi and the turtles.

It's a small detail, but assuming that some sort of mutagen/ooze is involved, I'd love to see it be pink like the '87 show.

Edit: As for the timing of their mutation, I actually wouldn't mind them first mutating without Splinter around. Then have him find them when they're toddlers or something, and raise them from that point on.

I’m hoping it will be the OT meets Mirage Comics origin. Yoshi will mutate into Splinter, but the turtles were found as infants after mutation and will be fifteen or so by the start of the season. I’m hoping there’s no reincarnation thing. If there is, let it just be for Splinter and NOT the turtles.:twink:

So, looking at the trailer, it would appear that two Kraang aliens try to accost Yoshi while he's walking with the turtles in a bowl, and after a struggle they all get oozed.

Not exactly sure what makes him turn into a rat, and we still don't know what all happened between Yoshi and Saki, but this is a start.

i really dont care which origin they adopt...as long as it makes sense in the show.
