View Full Version : Chances of PG-13 "Ninja Turtles"?

I can't speak for everybody, but I would think most here (myself included) favor a moderate PG-13 approach for the new TMNT film. I just saw The Hunger Games and (without getting caught up in loving/hating that film) it was intense. For a book aimed at middle schoolers, I was blown away. It was rated PG-13. There's absolutely no reason why the new TMNT can't be.

Wasn't Transformers PG-13? I mean, usually Bay works within that rating it seems, and the director is a horror movies guy - could this film be our first PG-13 TMNT?

Yeah, I can see it happening. Most superhero films are PG-13. Plus, Bay says that one day kids will belive the turtles are real after the movie, so it's more likely to be PG-13.

The chances of a PG-13 could be pretty good. A few of the Harry Potter films were PG-13 and kids were a big part of the fanbase not to mention that most comic book films are PG-13.

I would love to see a PG-13 film. With everyone attached to it it seems plausible.

I just hope they focus more on the super hero action portion of the franchise because a majority of super hero films are PG-13.

That's a movie he directed. The movies his company produced have been mostly R. Take that as you will.

I really don't get the whole fascination that people have with the seemingly magical PG-13 rating.

If it means more action, explosions, and cool looking bad guys, then that's fine. But I don't really care how many cuss words get dropped or how much blood gets spewed all over the place.

I just want something along the lines of the first flick which if released today would be PG-13 as long as the kids smoking was cut.

Prior to Bay's involvement there probably wasn't too much chance of PG-13. Now, maybe, if that's what he wants. He'll get what he wants.

It still seems so tragic to me that it's like this huge big thing that a Ninja Turtle movie gets a rating that's OK for 13 year-olds. And yet it is.

I'm in an agreement with the precedent that most modern comic movies for a mass audience are PG-13. I see this flick being PG-13.

My big question is what in the 1st movie makes you guys think it would be re-rated if it were released now?

There is some blood in it. and the violence would most likely bump it up a bit. The movie did get targeted for that by the media resulting in the loss of weapons in #2.

I'll say that with the talent involved the chances of a PG13/12A rated TMNT film is very high.

Among other "intense thematic elements" from the first movie.

*April (a woman) gets slapped around by some male attackers.

*Raphael gets the snot beat out of him and tossed through a ceiling window.

*Poor injured Raphael has to be slowly nursed back to life as his brothers wait around anxiously.

*Splinter is assumed to be dead, and he gives his depressed sons his "farewell address."

*Shredder gets crushed (to death, supposedly) by a garbage truck callously activated by one of the main "heroes."

Yeah, that first movie was good stuff, indeed!

I'd watch that... What is wrong with a little slo mo gore scenes? :3 Imagine all the stabby scenes we could have!

Truly though I just want to see ninja action :O Like when Leo goes across the wall in Turtles forever, or the cool on top of building scene in the intro of the 2k3 show. I just want to see me some awesome ninja action... which really doesn't need a high or low rating to do.

I could go with any rating frankly.

And behold the sequel (http://www.amazon.com/Turmoil-Toybox-Joan-Hake-Robie/dp/0914984209/ref=pd_sim_b_1)! It's the one-two fundamentalist punch that NO ONE demanded!

I really like the cover artwork on some of those fundamentalist anti-cartoon books! If only the interior pages featured similar "creative" artistic interpretations of our favorite Saturday morning heroes, those books might actually have some humor value to them.

would definitely be up for a pg-13 rating!

It'd be rare to see Raph say DAMNNNNNNNN or BITCHING at the end of the movie if its not pg-13 nowadays

I would definitely like to see some stabbing w/ leo and raph as well as some whacks to the skull w/ mikeys nunchucks and not using sausage (combat coldcuts)

One thing the first movie was missing is Leo and Raph never stabbed any Foot Soldiers. This is not the cartoons, its a shame it can't be shown.

They can do it with the usual no blood either, just show them slashing and the Foot fall down.

You're right Rise of the Silver Surfer is only PG, not sure if it was neutered to get it there or it was just dumbed down from the scripting stage on to insure a PG. Not even sure why they decided to drop it down a rating. The 1st wasn't so dark it would turn away families with kids...

Wow that's odd, I never realized Rise was only PG. I thought the story line was kinda dark, ya know, Galactus trying to devour Earth and all.

There wasn't actual blood flying everywhere, but the Turtles had blood on them during the fight scenes. It kinda looked like bruising in a way, but it was supposed to be blood, whether theirs or the Foot's.

Pretty sure that was just bruising. And I'm 100% for a PG-13 TMNT movie. The vast majority of the big action-oriented tentpole movies are PG-13 and I'd say it's very very likely we'll end up with the same rating for this one.

I expect PG-13. It'd be weird if they didn't make it that.

If they go PG, they'd be taking the director, producers, writers and Platinum Dunes as a whole out of their element.

I hope that the Movie is PG-13 but if it's anything like what the new toon it's looking to be , we should be expecting a G rating .

Yeah, that was blood on the Turtles, and like you said, Leo got Shredder good, not to mention, we got Shredder getting his face clawed out in the flash backs, the rat having his ear cut off, Casey Jones kicking the crap out of the kids in the park, Casey getting his butt kicked by Tatsu (he had blood on his face), Shredder beating Splinter's already bloodied face, a foot soldier getting electrocuted, arson, April getting knocked out, not to mention, weren't nun-chucks considered a controversial subject in themselves, and yet we got a nice little nun-chuck duel that went on in the movie..... I definitely would see this a PG-13 movie today, considering the plushy parents we have now.

Nothing pisses me off more than the douchebags on movie talkbacks defending PG-13 sequels to R-rated movies saying stuff like, "If Alien/Die Hard/Terminator 2 was rated today, it'd be PG-13!" No, it wouldn't, shut the **** up.

Just a personal pet peeve from elsewhere.

That said, yeah, I tend to agree that TMNT 1 would in fact land itself in a low-end PG-13 nowadays.

Chances of PG-13 "Ninja Turtles"?
If this was going to be a Nickelodeon movie, I'd doubt it. But, since it's the parent company, Viacom, I'm expecting the movie to be PG-13.

I'm having my doubts that this will get a PG-13 and, truthfully, I'm okay with that. Cursing and blood are not a necessity to make a good turtles film. I'm by no means prudish when it comes to either of these but this is meant to cash in with the child demographic, so we don't need some contrived effort to make it more "mature". The Star Wars films, with the exception of Revenge of the Sith, were all PG and had lots of limbs flying off and people dying and the action was still satisfying. Turtles can do the same. I don't want a repeat of Transformers where I have to tell my nephews they have to wait a few years to finally watch it because I don't want to have to explain what masturbation is.

I don't really get this line of thinking...just don't bring them then. The kiddies will have the Nick toon, and if their parents or older siblings want to bring youngin's to a PG-13 then they should. But if not, then just don't bring them.

There was barely any limbs flying off in Star Wars and when there was there isn't any blood to be see. People would still complain because blood and guts = mature and serious to some people. I'm of the mindset that you don't really NEED to see them murder people with their weapons. If the fight scene is well done and entertaining I don't care. I'm not sitting there going "WHY CAN'T I SEE THE BLADE PIERCE THAT FOOT NINJA'S HEART?! THIS MOVIE STINKS."

Let's not get into the thought of anything in those prequels being "satisfying" especially the action scenes that are pretty much video game cutscenes.

I'd agree that a flick doesn't need intense blood & guts to be mature and serious, I'm just pushing for the same as TMNT 1 - the spots of blood on the Turtles during the fight scenes was good enough for me. Violence should have repercussions.

Logan

I'm glad we have you around to decide everyone's opinion for them. What would we do without you.

Many, many people I know were pleased with the fight choreography of the prequels as well as the films as a whole, myself included. And I will leave it at that.

I don't really get this line of thinking...just don't bring them then. The kiddies will have the Nick toon, and if their parents or older siblings want to bring youngin's to a PG-13 then they should. But if not, then just don't bring them.

Except that the movies are specifically marketed toward them, the kids. The toys, merchandising, etc. Why make a film with all this stuff geared toward kids if the movie isn't even really meant for them?

I'd be all for a "mature" (I hate using that term because of its implications) Turtles movie, but I'd hope and expect that everything related to it would match that description and not give expectations that it's meant for little ones in any way.

I get what you're sayin, yet I would still disagree because TMNT movie 1 was worlds away from the OT, and yet it was pulled off awesomely. I think it's fair to say that a film shouldn't be treated the same way as a cartoon - not that you said that, but having them different and geared towards different maturity levels I think makes sense. A live action movie should be darker, mature. Cartoons were created for a whole different purpose, no?
