Great news!

I like how all these supporting characters are starting to get featured on the TMNT ongoing covers.

The issue #13 solicit kinda kills some of the possible suspense I had over Splinter's fate in the current storyline. But "Sins of the Fathers" sounds like an interesting arc if it's gonna highlight Casey.

The April O'Neil cover & solicit intrigues me. I assume she'll be trying to swipe some Mutagen ooze as legal evidence against Stockman or else as something for Donatello to study. The sinister looking figure in silhouette has got me curious. My guess is Old Hob (assuming he lives long enough to survive the current arc, that is!).

Also, cover for ongoing #14 is up on the IDW forums:

Ah, who's nitpicking now?! Haha well, how about full moniker then? I'm sure you know what I'm gettin' at... Why not call the Micro Casey then? Ah well, it doesn't really bug me, just couldn't help but notice! :P

Anyway, Arnold was his name in Mirage, but who knows in IDW!

Awesome covers! For the first time I'm going to have to obtain two variants of a Mirco Series comic. BTW, I'm a little confused by the title of this thread. Where does the number 13 come in here? We haven't even gotten that far into the series yet.

Awesome covers! For the first time I'm going to have to obtain two variants of a Mirco Series comic. BTW, I'm a little confused by the title of this thread. Is April's issue really the 13th book in the series? If so that means we got like 7 characters to go through before we get to her.

What? Did you even bother to read...anything? This thread is for issue # 13 of the main series and Micro-series #7: April O'Neil
.

Jephael

Yea, I figured that out like a few moments before I read your post, Samhaim. I've been skimming over a lot of posts lately, hence the little mistake. In my defense though, people should really use the word AND or some variation of the word (&/+) instead of a stupid comma when talking about more than one item.

lol, don't feel too bad, Jeph.

When I first clicked on this thread, I thought that Karai(I guess?) #13 cover was actually supposed to be the April issue. Almost immediately I figured out my mistake, but it did happen to me nonetheless.

TMNT #13: Okay, I'm really glad to find out that the heels from Dan Duncan's Karai sketches are gone from the final product--I'm waiting for the trades, so that's something I hadn't noticed until now.

The April issue: Barbara Kesel! Lurve her. And it's weird seeing IDW April not drawn by Duncan--his style is so distinctive that it's hard for me to see this cover as a depiction of the same person--she comes off as "attractive girl" instead of "April". And the more I think about it, the less I like her expression, which seems out of place, given the situation.

So we have an issue with a female writer, and a female artist, starring a lead female character. Something tells me this issue will be all about FEMINISM.

The men in the issue will probably be portrayed as chauvinist pigs, while the feminist April saves the day.

Is this the first time a TMNT comic has ever been written by a female?

Dude, I don't usually call people out on these boards, but...

What the heck?!?

The fact that you assume that creative women working on a comic book must result in some kind of feminist agenda-driven story is a bad reflection on yourself.

Or maybe you were just trying to make a joke. I'll at least give you the benefit of the doubt, even if it wasn't a funny joke.

Is this the first time a TMNT comic has ever been written by a female?

As far as I know, this is the first time in the US. I don't know the gender of all the artists and writers who worked on the Hero Turtles comcis though. So it's possible women have drawn or written Turtles story overseas.

I'm with you on keeping Rat King's "Independent" status. However, just because he's creeping around Stockman's lab doesn't necessarily mean he's in cahoots with him or Krang or even the Foot Clan. My guess is that he would have his own agenda.

Caseys' dad is the reincarnated Shredder...

corvus

Yeah and Casey is secretly Karai. But really I don't think Shredder is reincarnatied, there's been a few appearances of a foot ninja with a scar over his face just like shredder had in feudal Japan. I mean it makes sense that he doesn't wear his armour everywhere and has a ninja outfit.

Petersen's cover is great as usual! It's weird, the round headed turtles kind of remind me of Lawson's turtles a la '89-'90 (End of Tales Vol. 1, Return To New York, etc.).

(slowly but surely making my way through the Mirage and IDW books now) So I'll try to stick around and get up to date.

Welcome to the TMNT creative family, Heather! I'mreally looking forward to this one.

He pencilled the Michelangelo micro.

Also, I'm surprised no one's speculated on Shredder's "secret".

In b4 "Utrom Shredder!"

Dude, I've been saying that since jumpstreet here. But Tom (or was it Bobby? one of the two) flat out said that Saki isn't an Utrom in this universe.

Which, of course, may just turn out to be a technicality. i.e., "Shredder's not an Utrom, he's a Kraang. Or some other brain-like being that isn't called an Utrom." I really hope that's not the case on any of those fronts. If Saki is an alien, after Baxter gets mutated/turned into a cyborg/whatever IDW has planned for him (which is kind of an inevitability)... who exactly is left as the "normal" villains of the Turtles? I've always loved while, yes, the Turtles can have some fairly fantastical, even intergalactic villains, that their arch enemy is just a regular dude. A regular dude that also happens to be an uber ninja, but a regular human dude just the same.

I think I'd be OK with any kind of plot device they want to use for explaining how Saki arrived in the 21st century from Feudal Japan as long as it doesn't make him not human. Stumbled onto some Utrom tech and found a way to travel to the future? Great, I'm on board. Through his own ingenuity, unlocked the secret to semi-immortality? I'm fine with that too, as long as he's not invincible. Some kind of sorcery/extradimensional manipulation? If it's not too wacky then I'm OK too. Some form of multi-generational cloning or something? There's a precedent for it in Mirage, that's fine.

I don't think I'm allowed to share anything from TMNT yet but I have some color examples on my DA http://angieness.deviantart.com/gallery/30211213 I also got to do flat duty on James Stokoe's Godzilla:Half Century War that's coming out from IDW tomorrow and you'll see me in Peter Panzerfaust for Image next month!

What If the Shredder/Oroku's secret is he the host of Ch'rell. Oroku Saki would still be human, But he's sharing his body with Ch'rell.

There Hun if IDW decided to used him and he's regular human Villain.

Lookin' good! I'm excited for this.

That dream in the beginning reminds me of Adventures Special #11.

April O'Neil's life has been turned upside down in the aftermath of meeting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Rather than running from the choas, April decides to meet it head-on. Determined to make a difference, April starts to investigate suspicious circumstances at Stockgen Labs. What she finds will have serious repercussions for herself... and the Turtles!

I'm not sure what is more impressive:

That April was able to face off against a Stone Warrior and live, or, y'know, Slash's debut. Plus, he has multi-colored eyes. How wonderfully creepy. Wish he had a few lines of dialogue, but he'll be featured plenty in the near-future.

And Slash being a bio-experiment for Stockgen is quite feasible, and really the best way to go. And I'll go further, since Shredder is now using mutants (as per Alopex's newfound prominence), I'm quite sure he'll seek out or ally with Slash, at least for a while. Guy has to get his black bandanna and gauntlets somehow.

Glad you guys liked it! I picked it up today as well (even though IDW is also sending comp copies, there's something exciting about seeing something you worked on in a comic store), my comic store only had one of the covers.

Slash's eye color was Bobby's idea, I'd totally forgotten his eyes were different colors on the toy so it was a cool effect.

The April issue was good, but it left me wanting more. I liked seeing things from April's point of view, so I didn't want it to end so quickly. Hopefully she'll get into the action more in future stories.

Slash was a really neat surprise. I was almost expecting Rocksteady or Bebop.

As far as TMNT #13 goes,

that last panel with Splinter is a bit of a shocker. Even if he is just trying to scare Casey's dad, it's strange to see the noble rat act like that. Maybe he'll just do the nose thing like Mr. Miyagi did to the Cobra Kai guy. :)

Krang is an utrom/utrom-like alien. I'm sure everyone expected it, because most people would be disappointed if that wasn't the case. Still neat to see, though.
