I'm still looking forward to seeing a full episode or two before I pass full judgement. But as of seeing this trailer, ehh I'm on the fence.

And I hate the booyakasha(or whatever). I don't see a point in having a catchphrase, but if there must be one I'd rather something else.

They'll pass judgment on every little thing that pops up until then, because that's what they do. I found nothing wrong with the trailer. I quite enjoyed it; everyone seems properly in character and the animation is great.

"It sounds weird when you say it!"

Nice.

I was pretty surprised with the voice actors they got.

Not that crazy about Leo's voice. Then again, this is Jason Biggs...No offense to him, but everytime I hear about him, I keep thinking about when he made love to a pie in "American Pie." I still can't get that scene out of my head.

Sean Astin as Raph was okay.

Rob Paulsen as Donnie. Wasn't bad. He was the original Raphael after all.

Greg Cipes as Michelangelo. This, I wasn't surprised Greg was signed on to do Mikey. Mikey is a party dude...Greg Cipes usually did party loving or lazy characters; Beast Boy from Teen Titans, Kevin 11 from Ben 10.

I do like that Phil Lamarr is doing Baxter Stockman, I love that actor.

I'm pretty sure there are worser voices out there.

It's cool if you guys feel differently, but I don't understand what's so wrong in judging a trailer. The point of a trailer is a form of promotion, and its' purpose is not only to show the product, but to make you want to watch the intended show/movie/etc.

Yes...there have been poor trailers to good movies, and vice versa....but there are a handful of us (or at least me) who didn't say much on the matter...at least until I saw it in full motion, in this trailer...and I simply wasn't a fan of what I saw, at all. Maybe it's because the turtles look like their 12 years old, or a form of CGI Gumby, in MY opinion...the turtles don't seem like they have detail or something...but I guess some of us are just not fans of the designs of this cgi animation. Again, in OUR opinion.

It's not what some of us 'do'...it's us seeing a trailer, used as promotion for a show to get us excited to watch it...and for some of us, it did the opposite. So why shouldn't we judge it?

For people on this forum, don't judge people simply Because they have a different opinion.

It's ok to disagree, and to converse about it...that's the point of a forum

But sometimes being on these forums are just irritating because, (not all, but some) people just resort to either name-calling, or talking down to them (like being called 'fan-fiction writers' or such), or anything that floats their boat 'simply because'. Yeah I got a thick skin, and I'll stay on the forums...that still doesn't excuse it.

If you love it, then fine, go for it! And if someone hates it, then go for it. Just be decent about it...you can hate, or love, anything you want...but for some people (no, I won't mention who, but it's a couple), just ease up on the attitude a bit.

Everything has a hater and a fan...accept it.

After looking at this trailer, I'm kinda wishing we could have gone into 2D a little more. I love the sketchy artwork at the beginning (and from the earlier animatics). I prefer hand-drawn animation over CGI, but I'm eager to see what they do with Splinter/Hamato Yoshi. I can't wait to see how they handle him and his "llama-rat" features :P . Shredder seems a little campish in this trailer, but perhaps it's just because it IS a trailer. Maybe he'll be more menacing in the show...

Looks very kiddish as to be expected but what bothers me is there new catch phrase booyakasha, reminds me of the Ali G show.
I keep expecting to hear Respek" (respect), "Aight" & keep it real because of what Ali G's character use to say.

i agree leo's voice is not as good as 2k3 or movie 2007, but its tolerable. it's more like the OT leo's voice, which i dont mind. but wait a sec, i hear someone say raph "sounds weird when u say it" at the end is similar to raph's voice in movie 2007 ????

i have movie 2007 on my disk and i watch it over n over...i dont think thats a similar voice act. this new one is alot pitcher.

like alot of you hear the new catch phrase is really weird to me, but Shredder looks retarded to me. Not really liking the design of him, The TMNT are fine, there is alot more detail then the first trailer that we saw, which is awesome. I dont know though just going to have to watch it and see where it goes. Ill give it 10 episodes ;)

Hey guys … newbie here.

I thought you might like to hear the unbiased opinion of somebody who didn't grow up watching previous TMNT toons and isn't all that familiar with the turtle universe. (Yeah, I was that poor kid whose parents didn't allow cartoons.)

Anyway, I like the look of the Nick show. Just so I had a vague idea of what it was up against, and what the most of the critical comments were comparing it to, I went onto Youtube and watched the first episodes of both the '87 toon and what fans refer to as the “2k3” toon (which I guess makes Nick's version “2k12”? Or is it just 2012? Somebody fill me in here.)

Out of those two, I preferred the '87 show due to it's lighter, more comedic tone. Comparing all three, however, 2k12 (at least, what we've seen of it in the trailer, on the website etc) is definitely the most accessible. What I mean by that is, a kid with no background knowledge of the show (or an adult, like me) can enjoy it. It has a “pick up and play” quality and broader appeal than a darker, gritter toon like 2k3. I think that, even if die-hard adult TMNT fans don't love it, the target audience (K6-11) will.

Nick obviously has a lot of faith in this reboot. It is highly unusual, almost unheard of, for them to invest so much time and money into a show like they have done with this one. It's not even begun airing yet and already they have toys, clothing, sippy cups, a functional ride at Nickelodeon Universe, banners, costume characters and a TMNT pizza dinner event at the Nick Hotel.

TLDR; I like what I've seen so far, and I wasn't even a TMNT fan to begin with.

PS: I don't get why people are so riled up about “booyakasha”. I'm not saying it doesn't sound stupid, but “cowabunga” sounds just as cringeworthy IMO.

PPS: I don't work for Nickelodeon. :P

I don't see why people are complaining about the tone. It seems much funnier and light-hearted than past incarnations, maybe moreso than the original cartoon.

My only concerns is the animation in the fight scenes and the storylines.

Saw the trailer on TV this morning. I must've lucked out, because I don't follow Korra, nor did I know this was airing. I was just eating breakfast and happened to leave it on the channel during the break.

Anyway, now that I've seen it in above-Youtube quality, my opinion on the animation still stands. It's acceptable, but not great compared to its contemporaries. A full episode might reveal more, but I don't think we'll be looking at top-of-the-line TV CGI for this series. And has anything connected to Nickelodeon ever had really top-notch CGI for its time?

Still liking everything else though. And, as someone above pointed out, I do like how much effort Nickelodeon seems to be throwing into promoting it.

Funny. No, really, I'm laughing.

Regardless of my slightly wrong word usage, my meaning conveys the message. I utterly despise what I saw on that nearly 1 1/2 minute clip. In fact, I wish I could unsee it. I need bleach.

About the only thing that I thought was half-way decent was Raphael's voice and particularly his line at the end. Sounded somewhat similiar to Nolan North's Raphael in TMNT, which was not bad either.

Everyone else, forget it. Jason Biggs is about the worst Leo I've ever heard, Don doesn't sound right either, and Mikey's voice is more annoying than even 4Kids'.

The animation is terrible. I don't like the style with all the goofy stars and such and their character designs are still crap.

Can't wait to hear all of your feelings when the show airs and you're right there watching on TV.

Spare me the whining and complaining. Especially on the voices since we've only heard.....what? 2-3 seconds tops of them talking?

Again. See you the day it's out. Right here.

I accepted 2K3 which was just a "kids series". I don't accept this. Has nothing to do with being a "brick head" it has to do with quality. How could anyone seriously argue that's well animated? It looks like a low budget cut scene from an Xbox Live Arcade game.

Yea, I guess brick head was kinda unnecessary. I just get annoyed by those people claiming to be raped by nickelodeon and stuff, you know the usual.

Jimmy Neutron was good for its time IIRC. Nick wins a lot of awards for most of their CG stuff nowadays as well, mainly the Dreamworks spin-offs like Penguins and Kung-Fu Panda. Even Fanboy and ChumChum, which is God-awful, has won Emmys. It's well-animated, despite the fact that everything else about it is terrible.

Yeah, whatever.

This is a promotional trailer, IE; more than likely the finished product. You want to make a comparison?

Take a teaser trailer of a Disney movie or any movie for that matter. They put together scenes and stitch them into a usually 2-3 minute clip to give you a taste of what it's going to be like. And there might be more than one to be released over the months before the movie comes out. They also use some of the best scenes to entice the viewer without actually giving away the whole movie.

Ergo facto, if it does nothing to generate some excitement and go "Oh, hell, yeah! I wanna see that" and instead makes you want to hurl in the nearest toilet, why would I be plopping down on the couch in front of the TV to watch it? I'm going to stay as far away from it as I can.

I think this is going to be a good show, hopefully they have story arcs and good action and they will be fine! If they have just those two elements i will watch. But i'm not going to be too picky and upset with this series. I still don't like how Shredder looks but thats not a huge deal to me.

I'm already thankful we had the 4Kids series where it got to run its course all the way to the end. Now we get a new TMNT series that can be different and i can tell by the visuals this show is going to be good because KIDS WILL LOVE IT!

The only time i get upset with a cartoon is when they end a great series early and release a bad one in its place, example Spectacular Spiderman in favor of Ultimate, Avengers EMH in replace with upcoming Avengers Assemble (kids show).

That's true. The great thing about TMNT shows is they at least wait till the previous one ends before they start a new one.

It's not like an existing TMNT cartoon gets canceled in the middle and replaced for no reason by a new one.

I am pretty happy we only have 3 TMNT cartoons...we don't need constant reboots like Batman, Spiderman, etc. every 3-4 years.

Oniri
06-23-2012, 11:29 PM
Yeah...Fast Forward doesn't count.

To tell you the truth, Spectacular Spiderman doesn't really count. What really killed that show was the clusterf*** exchange of rights for animated Marvel stuff, not a sudden need to replace anything. I think Avengers may have been the same deal. But I am off topic.

So far, I still like some of the design and style stuff. I am cool with the voices. I actually like the stars and bubbles alot. I think they are cute and helps with the comic feel that some of the designs seem to be going for.

I am on the fence about the animation. The animation is not fluid and very off in the last scene, but I don't want to judge that just on the trailer. I am going to wait for a full 30 minutes (technically 20 or less without CM breaks) before I ragequit.

Different art style, different setting, new characters. It was a new show in everything but name.

And it didn't replace an existing season, it was merely aired a year earlier than it was supposed to.

"The Lost Season" was called that for a reason. The season 5 cliffhanger left the Turtles on a ship to Japan...And next season we were in the future. Not cool.

You have to be joking. Most TV shows in existence introduce new characters every season. It got a subtitle and a different setting, everything else was the same series.

The Lost Season" was called that for a reason. The season 5 cliffhanger left the Turtles on a ship to Japan...And next season we were in the future. Not cool.

What are you talking about? It was never officially called, "The Lost Season," it was only refered to that on 4kids adverts hyping it up. The DVD is officially titled, "The Ninja Tribunal."

And why are you acting like the official order was changed? It was still Season 5 and the episode numbering includes Season 5 prior to FF. It was never officially shifted out of order.

It simply aired on TV afterward, that is all. Considering nowadays casual fans won't even know it ever aired out of order in the first place, it doesn't matter.

Very true. I don't mind critical opinion all that much IF I deem it well deserved (Ultimate Spider-Man, which has had some half-decent episodes), but the MIRAGE minority and the "remakes suck" crowd never have an intelligent thing to say, their minds are made up right before the series airs, so expect a good deal of trolls trying to rain on the parade, all while others far more opitmistic and objective than they are enjoy what there given, or at best, are hopeful this new interpretation will delight a new generation.

Hell I don't like the current season of Power Rangers, but it's doing a bang-up job with the kids, and that keeps the franchise sturdy, so I couldnt be happier for it despite my critical views on the quality. There's always a positive to take from any new version of anything, be it the merchandising, the show, or the appeal and influence it has on the audience.

there really seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding the new cartoon.

I frequent many forums on other franchises, and most of them are very optimistic about this show. The negativity you see are from the usual cliched corners of the change-fearing internet and people too dumb to realize TMNT has been more of a kids franchise than an "adult drama" for almost as long as they have been around.

I said back in the "Last Movie you saw" thread on how great Brave was.

But let me bring this up, it's nothing like how it was advertised. The commercials/trailers focused more on the funny/comedic moments than scenes relating to the plot and on how "awesome" the main character is with her archery skills and rebellion aganist tradition.

I don't find this too different. For those still complaining on how awful the CGI looks or how kiddy it looks, this trailer was only scratching the surface.

Just saw the trailer. I like it so far. Even the booyakasha isn't that bad as long as it's not overused. I like the voices, too. Rob's Don sounded a little like Raph, but I could detect a faint difference in it. Biggs's Leo was really good, as was Sean's Raph, even without the Brooklyn accent. Cipes's Mikey was also awesome. I did hear a little of Beast Boy in it, but that's cool. Overall, I'm really excited for this show, and so is my BF. Both of us really liked the trailer. And the animation was pretty good, too.

I think what DarkLightDragon was getting at, is that compared to what the overall show will be like, what we've seen in this trailer is just barely scratching the surface. Referring to it as the "tip of the iceberg" would also work.

I noticed something when I paused the trailer. If you can pause it at just the right moment during the 2D origin part at the beginning, you can see that Raph has apparently had that lightning bold chunk missing from his shell since at least the mutation, if not before that. Kinda makes it a weird almost birth mark sort of thing, rather than a wound he received while training with his bros.

The animation style looks simple, but well done. Itseems to flow really well, like an animated comic book. I'm gonna be optimistic abotu this. All I really watch anymore is cartoons, True Blood, American Pickers and Mythbusters. So I'm hoping this turns out good. :D

First, my thanks to the one who re-uploaded the trailer onto YouTube, as the audio on the EW link sucked.

As for my assessment, I'll use a phrase Laird used during the 90's with the various Turtle products he kinda sorta liked: "It didn't make me puke." But everyone else has made their case, pro or con, so nothing much for me to add beyond that.

Except, the banter in the end was nice, though, hopefully, Mike doesn't lose his competence too much as part of his 'comic relief' theme. Then again, after years of seeing 87 and 03 Mike's various antics and not freaking out about them (with few exceptions), Nicktoon Mike will probably be fine.

In regards for the simpler style, as long as we get good fight scenes, it's a proper trade-off.

I'm guessing it's because of the quality and his eyes being nearly shut but I'd love to see the show change between no pupils and pupils, that's the best of both worlds.

After watching the trailer a few more times, I'm really excited, some people wanted a new 2k3 but I didn't want that, we already had 2k3, I wanted a more serious version of the OT, what the videogames and the toys seemed to be based on a grittier version of that universe, which this version isn't but that's fine because it feels new and fresh which is what I wanted for the most part.

After watching the trailer numerous times over the last few days I still have mixed emotions. It seems as though I may like one aspect of the new series one day, and then dislike it the next. Other aspects I'm really enjoying, like the voice acting for example. I'm really enjoying Leo and Raph's new voices (Biggs and Astin). Rob's voice as Donny is still kinda weird but I think I'll get used to it. Mike's is going to be the odd ball for me. I'm looking forward to discovering the tone of the series too.

Before the trailer I wasn't a fan of the character design but after the trailer hit I'm starting to enjoy it. The emoticons though ... we'll see. And PLEASE BRING BACK COWABUNGA!!! Even my wife thought Boo-ya-ka-sha was lame.

Obviously I'm going to watch the series no matter what when it hits this Fall. Whether I continue to enjoy it will be up to the writers. :twink:

Poor ol Donny

Jimmy Neutron was good for its time IIRC. Nick wins a lot of awards for most of their CG stuff nowadays as well, mainly the Dreamworks spin-offs like Penguins and Kung-Fu Panda. Even Fanboy and ChumChum, which is God-awful, has won Emmys. It's well-animated, despite the fact that everything else about it is terrible.

Don't even start me on fanboy and chum chum, ughh, TERRIBLE!

Oh please shut the hell up Stryker. You give fans a bad name. I don't care if you disagree with someone, but most of your posts just consist of you being a total ass or a total douchebag to someone. You talk about 'whining and complaining' and yet that's all you DO, is whine and complain about 'this person' and 'that person' because of their opinion, resulting in you insulting someone.

Chill out, shut up, or grow the hell up instead of acting like a 9 year old with your insults and attitude to everyone just because they have a different opinion than you.

At least I know that I don't act like an adult most of the time...you on the other hand should get a clue about it...hopefully sooner than later.

I have to agree, this guy got a point, but seriously dude, it sounds like your whining and complaining right now. Calm down and smell the pizza dude.

What happened to every one just being civil and respecting each other...

I believe that most people are civil around here, it's just that one person posts some thing uncivil, than the next person posts some thing uncivil, the next 5 people continue this process, and there's also random guy who starts talking about what his mom did to him the other day in the middle of it

Worst thing ever. Every time. This thing sucks, that thing sucks and this show is going to be awful. This kids show isn't for me! An adult! Angry! And you tell me I need to grow up. Right.

Hate to agree with you, but it is a kids show, and certain people like them, and others do not. It's really all about your tastes.

I really like the new style of the show even if the turtles look more like Tweens than teens.

I like the new style of show too, but I wouldn't mind seeing the old styles in other series again though.

The only time i get upset with a cartoon is when they end a great series early and release a bad one in its place, example Spectacular Spiderman in favor of Ultimate, Avengers EMH in replace with upcoming Avengers Assemble (kids show).

What, their ending Avengers EMH? WHAT ARE THEY CRAZY!? I love that show!

i just hope its not gonna be too childish like FF... "its ninja time blah blah" u kno... that kills me.
I personally loved "It's Ninja Time" Can't say TURTLE POWER isn't childish either! Childish, but Awesome!

Ehhhh I'unno. I just don't dig the art style overall, even though in motion there's *parts* of it I like and it's animated well, the motions are very fluid. I also watched it with no speakers so I can't comment on audio. It looks even more "kiddie" than the OT, if that's even possible, but with a "gritty" veneer that presents an odd juxtaposition. I think Shredder looks neat, though.

I don't think the look will stand the test of time, but I'm not the audience. I'll watch it when I can, but I doubt it'll become my favorite TMNT cartoon. I'll also bravely place a bet that these TMNT won't show up on retro calendars and shirts 20 years from now. :P

I don't think we should aim our expectations high when it comes to that sort of thing either Leo. Whilst I think this show will do well enough, it wont, like the 4Kids 'toon, last long in the memory of much after a certain period, with the exception of us long-term brand loyalists.

But you may as well live in the now with the rest of us and enjoy another ride, you never know when the TMNT gravy train will run dry again.

The more I watch it, he more I find myself digging it. I'm not really a fan of the drastic size change when they go "SHHH," but whatevs.
I noticed the same thing about Don's missing tooth. Kind of funny, since turtles don't have teeth to begin with, but I was kind of hoping that it'd establish some kind of rivalry or something with Raphael. I still imagine Raph taking things too far during a training session and punching Donnie square in the mouth. Thought maybe he'd be all nervous about April seeing it, although I suppose they could still do that last part.
If this is definitely the new "look" I hope that at least they come up with good plushies.Very yes on that. I love plushies.

We've just been through it before. After the He-Man 2K3 fiasco, new Thundercats, the CGI TMNT flick (which I like, it's just not what it should've been by any stretch), I just don't wanna expect too much. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by how well it does, rather than get my hopes up and be let down again.

Let's be clear: I would NEVER root against TMNT, I love everything to do with it. I'm the guy that liked Coming Out Of Their Shells, ok? But the new show isn't quite my style, a second "reboot" in a 10-year span doesn't fill me with a ton of confidence, and the last show spent its entire run being unfairly copmpared to the OLD show, which in my opinion ultimately killed it by raising the bar of expectations insanely high.

It'll be fine as its own thing, but the look of the show alone promises it won't be the Second (Third?) coming of Turtlemania. Broad point example: Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was a really good game that played well, but did poorly almost entirely based on the art style, which made it look like it was entirely for children. I liked the gameplay enough to get into the game and forget the art style entirely, most others didn't. I expect more of the same judgment here. The art style isn't terrible but they skewed it way too young, in my opinion.

I think it'll do well, but not as good as either of the last two shows. We'll see!

To me, it doesn't feel like the 2k3 show was that big. Turtle Mania was only around in the 80's. Do I expect a second coming of Turtlemania with the new series on Nickelodeon? Yes. Do I expect it to be bigger than the first Turtlemania? No. Nothing can really top the original, or when the turtles were really big during its heyday. Still, this seems to be the next cartoon (along with Legend of Korra) to outrank Spongebob Squarepants from Nickelodeon just before that show ends. I imagine that this will be under a contract of 3 seasons. And whether or not it goes to 4 or more, it could still do well. I mean, Batman: The Animated Series ran for like 3-4 years. Not as much as the 10 seasons we got from the OT TMNT show, but still, it was a success.:twink:

Turtles will never be as big as they were in the 80's and early 90's. No property every regains fad status after it loses it.

Look at Power Rangers, Pokemon, etc...none have been able to recapture the massive fan following they had during the first 3-4 years of their lifespans. That doesn't mean these shows aren't still successful, and so will Nick's TMNT.

Prt of that comes from the choices kids have today. When Turtlemania (and every other "mania" of that time period) hit, kids didn't have 500 channels and an entire Internet to entertain them. A lot more people were being entertained by the same few things so there were a lot more people getting behind the same one piece of entertainment back then.

Now, not so much. We have a lot more to choose from and people who are part of niche fandoms now have a way to gather as a group much more easily to talk about it.

Exactly, today's day and age was a very different one in the 80's. Back then everyone watched the same popular cartoons. Transformers, GI Joe, TMNT, He-Man etc. Now if you turn on the TV your overwhelmed with what you can watch. It's more spread out now.

2K3 did its job though, it was a great show and it got to the finish line and it did well enough.

My little pony toys have been everywhere since it was created. They're glittery and have brushable hair. Of course little girls love it! My niece likes the toys but didn't know the show existed until she asked me about a sticker on her toy.

I'm just saying. MLP is barely discussed outside of the heavy internet and messageboard set. I've seen more Adventure Time coverage in the most random of places really.

Not disrespecting or nothing. Before the brony brigade starts yelling.

yeah, I was surprised when a little kid saw a pony figure when I was at a Toy sore and said she was in the show. Cause I didn't know the show even air in Norway.

I checked Youtube and apparently it is dubbed. The Norwegian dub is terrible beyond salvation

What was wrong with He-Man and Thundercats?

ABSOLUTELY F*CKING NOTHING!!! Which is why it's a tragedy that various circumstances conspired to put He-Man 2K3 into cancellation, and it looks like Thundercats is about to suffer the same fate Those shows deserved many more years. I don't get my hopes up much anymore.

"The finish line" by TMNT standards is ten years, 4Kids couldnt come up with enough fresh ideas and peterd out by seven, and those last two years are ones nobody gives a number two about.

I think they had it mapped out when the started the project. So i'd say they reached and accomplished their goal. It doesn't have to go 10 years. 7 years isn't bad and 7 years isn't a failure. Instead of breaking it down into years why not in episode counts?

193 vs 156 ish? That's not bad either, that's still a decent amount. And i agree i didn't really care about the last few seasons, to me the show ended when Ninja Tribunal did. But it still got to the finish line, they got to tell their story. Unlike what happen with the reboot he-man show in the 2000's or Spectacular Spider-man, Wolverine and the X-Men, Avengers EMH. You could also argue the 90's Spidey show too since that ended weird. I only hope the NEW Thundercats get's a complete ending, I only hope a show like Young Justice gets one too. I don't need 10 years, i just need something with what 2K3 TMNT did, and what the Justice League show did. That way i can buy the complete set on DVD and be satisfied.

10 years is a great feat for sure, but what 4Kids show got to do in todays standards is great too. Also to top it off we got Turtles Forever.

What? It was a great show that was cut off at the knees by politics, despite the fact it was terrific. Fans did not get all they deserved from it, thus I consider it something of a "failure". I've rarely been as hyped and enthusiastic as I was for the He-Man reboot, especially after seeing the pilot, but again, we didn't get what we deserved. That's how I feel.

Or did it come out in 2002? I forget things, my job requires me to get hit in the head more than a few times.

Even had the show survived Mattel's marketing incompetance, there were rumours the third season would have been the last anyway.

Thanks buddy, I guess I been gettin' lazy lately.

Yeah I heard there was only gonna be one more season also but I would have liked to see it play to its natural progression. It was a really, really, REALLY good show and deserved better.

They look really COOL 100%
there is just 1 thing I really DON'T like.......

The new Shredder how he looks and that the blade comes out from his armor.
When I see that it remembers me of Wolverine from the X-men only his blade comes out of his hand and not armor.

So Turtles 100% COOL
Shredder 100% FAIL <> (sorry)

The 2003 and 80's Shredder looks better then this new one
