*SEE THIS THREAD (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?p=971176#post971176) FOR OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE POLLS!*

As the title suggests, this is the official Technodrome 2012-2013 "Favorite Turtle" poll. So, Technodrome members, who is your favorite Turtle, and why?

I encourage discussion about why you prefer a certain Turtle, even if you feel blue in the face at this point in answering that question. Something you say might spur an interesting conservation about our favorite mutant reptiles. Please refrain from simply stating "My favorite Turtle is (insert name here)." Explain!

As for me, my true favorite will always be Donatello. He's been my Turtle of choice since I was young. I've gone on "kicks" with the other three, but Donnie holds the main spot. I relate to him most out of the four for many reasons. He enjoys intellectual battles rather than physical ones, which is a big reason I always favored Don. There is a darker, deeper side to his character that perhaps only Raphael can match. Perhaps that is because Laird also favors Donatello and therefore delved deeper into his character, likewise for Eastman and Raphael. Whatever the case, there's no denying that Donatello has a dark side that sometimes manifests itself in both Mirage, IDW, and even the OT.

My favorite version of Donnie is the first film, that movie holds a special place in my heart. I, unlike others here, enjoy the fact that he wasn't insanely technical to the point of Einstein genius: I like that he was still skilled in the area of mechanic (the Casey truck scene), a thinker (his hand is often on his chin denoting thought), and I liked how he let loose a little more often than we see in Mirage - an OT influence. However, the aforementioned character traits I believe are thanks to the Mirage influence that clearly permeates through the first film.

I could go on about Donnie (See "The Donatello Thread" (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=33475))...anyway, who is your favorite, and why?!

It's all about Donatello, yo. They're all wonderful and relatable, but Donnie was always the coolest to me.

I'd really like to see Donatello taken in a somewhat different direction than the sci-fi technician or Mr. Fix-It (though the latter is pretty well necessary to explain the survival of aquatic reptiles in a sewer). Anyways, I like to imagine a version of Don whose genius is a little more theoretical. Like he studies philosophy, psychology, and maybe even music theory and composition, besides the computer hacking, power rigging and water reserve maintenance. I like him more as the introspective defender than the mega-genius pacifist.

Curiously, I had the idea for Don to have a naginata blade extend from his bō (and Mikey using a kusarigama has felt appropriate to me since) roughly five years ago. Imagine my surprise...

I agree, and this is why I believe I favor movie 1 Donnie the most. He's sort of Mr. Fix-it, but he's not pigeon-holed into the role of ridiculously gifted technician. Yes, I'd say I also favor a more theoretical Donatello whose interests branch further out into the web of intellectualism, beyond computers and mechanics.

Donatello does do that, of course. I'd just like to see even more of it.

It's just something about Donatello composing music that feels right to me. Probably would be even cooler if he kept it private from his brothers. I've mentioned my idea for Leo to keep bonsai as a hobby, before. Semi-related.

The other thing about the first film's Donatello was that he was pretty well established as buddying up with Mikey. Since my younger brother's favourite is Michelangelo, it always made them feel like they really represented us.

Hm, I suppose I could see Don dabbling in music, but I would think Leo would be equally capable of composition, especially in the vein of traditional Japanese. Of course, we're bordering on fan-fiction here but I don't think it's absurd to discuss it!

That last paragraph you wrote brings to mind my own bond with my sister and cousins, with whom the Turtles still play a huge role. Especially as they are in the first film, Don being my favorite represented me, my little sister favored Mikey so she played as him, Leo and Raph were favored by my cousins. It's a special bond that still persists to this day, those Turtles still represent us. A lot of non-TMNT fans wouldn't understand.

I've always loved Leonardo and Donatello. Younger, I looked up to Leo as a role model, he always seemed like a good role model to me, despite having a shell and swords. As I got older and older, I started leaning towards Donnie because I can relate with him to an extent and his personality is really lovable (but aren't they all?). Now I'm at the point where Donatello is my favorite, like many others, as this poll would seem to indicate.

It's really hard to choose just one. I can relate to each of them in different ways. And to say I value one more(or less) than the other feels wrong.

I chose Raphael in the end, I think there are more similarities to him and I than the rest. But I really like each turtle so much and what they bring to the team. It just would not be the same without one of them.

I voted for Donattello.

I find him close to my own personality, plus he seems to be the calm within the storm out of the 4 turtles.

It was hard to pick between him and Ralph as they are almost at a tie with each other.

If I had picked Ralph, I would have to say that what makes him my second favorite would be that he's ah, um... sexy. He just has that vibe to me. :embarass:

It was so hard for me to decide between Raphael and Donny!!!! I finally decided to go with Raph because as a kid he was my favorite. I can relate to him a lot. I had a bad temper most of my life, that I have had to concur. I can really understand the love/hate relationship with Leo because I had to grow up in my older sister’s shadow… She was one of those “perfect people” or so I thought. I also love his passion, and that he’s the tough guy….
Donnie would fall into second, as I got older I realized Donatello is the type of person I’d like to be…. I love his character. I love how he can fix things, I can’t think of anything I don’t like about the guy!
Mikey is third, but I love Michelangelo… He makes the show awesome and keeps it upbeat. He’s the kind of guy I’d want as a friend. He also reminds me of my youngest sister.
Last is Leo, my lest favorite. His character is necessary, but I don’t much care for him… I always felt he thought he was better that the others, but that’s just me I guess.

Needless to say in the cgi movie I wanted Raphael to beat the crap out of Leo, that was my favorite part.
My husband’s favorite turtle??? LEO!!!! I think he said that to annoy me…:trolleye:

I think that largely has to do with the favoring of purple (and likewise, pink) by young girls. My sister's favorite was Donnie too, until I told her in my snobby 7 year old tone that she couldn't like him anymore because he was my favorite. She has since liked Mikey. :)

I believe purple became my favorite color innately to a degree, but I think I owe my favoritism of the color (I own a lot of purple) to my favoring of Donatello.

I'm cool with both "teams" getting proper representation, which is why I was pretty upset at IDW taking away the uniform red (or just have a look a Andrew's signature; that's pretty much how I felt when reading that scene). Now, Mirage is the only version with uniform bandannas throughout.

I enjoy both, but if I had to choose a side, it's Red Team all the way. To me, the coloured bandannas are a cop-out, an excuse to not have to draw the Turtles' faces to be unique from each other (though, contrary to my point, Mirage is the biggest culprit of making the Turtles wholly indistinguishable from each other; maybe that was intentional, but I still don't care for it).

When I was younger, watching the '87 series, I was first a fan of Leo (still am in some regards), it had to do a little with his colour. But after watching more episodes, and the movie, I really related more to Raph.

The problem with Leo is that many people have some sense of nervousness or shyness that keeps their self-esteem from wanting to be a true leader, feeling that being the creator, tough guy, or laid back/fun dude would be easier for them to get along with, though it is still important since the world needs leaders in many different categories, right on down to assistants of the rank-and-files. That said, even though my all-time favorite is Michelangelo, it is currently Donatello for me since I enjoy seeing how ideas are drawn about and also that he seems to help influence Leonardo's decisions the most, which is important for the Turtles to keep on winning.

Indeed, that's a good point. Lawson's Turtles are often (save for Leo because he had the shoulder-straps) pretty indistinguishable from one another if they don't have their weapons. That's why I love Nick's Turtles, they look different and I especially love how they gave Donatello the thick shoulder strap like he had in the first movie, my personal favorite version. I've warmed up to the height differences, although I still don't see the need for such a drastically taller Donatello...he can still be a nerd without being gawky.

It is noticeable, but I wouldn't call it "drastic," per se. And technically, he was listed as the tallest (by like, an inch, but you get me) way back, even before the cartoon ever aired. I like Don being a little taller and/or thinner than the others (though perhaps not as lanky as he is in Dawn of the Ninja).

Anyway, my point about making them look alike mainly had to do with their faces (I draw their eyes and general head bulkiness distinctively, myself), but I agree that the thick strap on Donatello's belt makes sense. It should stick around. On a similar note, I'm happy that we're finally seeing a cartoon version of Leo with both his swords on one side.

I used to be a Team Colour guy, but I think Leonardo looks so cool with a red bandanna. It wasn't long before Mike and Don in red grew on me, too. I saw a drawing by Michael Dooney of the four of them in all purple bandannas, which I thought looked awesome. It's the uniformity that fuels my preference, not necessarily the colour red.

Yeah, he was listed as tallest in Strangeness, I believe. Also, in TMNT V.1 #2, when the Turtles first show themselves to April after they take out the mousers trying to kill her, Donatello appears a little taller than Raph & Leo. To me Nick's Donnie is exceptionally taller though...it's really not a big deal, just a minor gripe.

Interesting on the colors...where you prefer uniformity I have to admit I prefer the individuality the colors represent, which is maybe why I like the colors better. I love the all-red, too, don't get me wrong. For some reason I'm just drawn more to the different colored bandanas.

Genesis

Yes, I was referring to TMNT and Other Strangeness with the height thing. (Thanks again, Old Man Winters!)

I just think that the individual colours made them a little too Power Rangers and not enough ninja clan, in my eyes. Again, I can still dig it, especially since I love purple, and blue is my favourite colour overall.

I can see that line of thinking, since Power Rangers was often compared to TMNT, and even had the cross-over during Next Mutation. Bleh! What a disaster that was. Even when I was younger I thought it trite.

Purple is my favorite color overall, and I would surmise that was influenced by Donnie in my youth. It was also my mother's favorite color. I also favor the colors because the first movie Turtles, probably my most preferred version of the franchise. I always liked to think of each media (and even each film, regardless if they are supposed to be linked or not) in its own "universe" (I always thought "galaxy" was more appropriate...) so my bias towards the colored bandanas would stem also from the first movie Turtles as opposed to the OT TMNT.

I'm the only guy I know that favors purple as my color of choice. Plus, I really don't think that's an accurate assumption for why people like Donatello. Everyone likes their Turtle of choice for personal reasons, as this thread is testament to - I like Donatello for his character, not his color. His color was a welcome addition.

He's the smartest Turtle, and maybe (as the hilarious movie "21 Jump Street" showed when the two "go back" to school) students these days, on the whole, care more about being smart than they did in the 80s. That's just a general musing, I have nothing to prove this, besides personal experience from working at a school. You will always have your slackers, of course. But maybe all the "go to school, do good in school" ads have finally started working, and maybe students value education more and might lean more towards the "smarter" (or perhaps a better word is "studious") Turtles, Donatello and Leonardo. Just a musing.

Not that the above would deal with most people that voted here, anyway. We're mostly in our 20s, correct? I'm 25. I assume most of us grew up with the OT...

My favourite turtle is Leo. Why? I could say he is awesome but that applies to the other three. He's just always appealed to me: confident, loyal, dedicated, not particularly arrogant... I think he's a bit dorky and his sense of humour needs work but that just makes him adorable (or adorkable). He has this other side to him as well which I find interesting.

The first movie Turtles [are] probably my most preferred version of the franchise. As well it should be. That version of the characters stole my heart more wholly than any other and is likely a direct cause of my seeking out the Mirage comics. I really feel that that film nailed it on almost every respect. It's a very watchable flick in its own right, but we could go on forever about that.
Haha, yes, that is great and somewhat scarce around these parts. Maybe it's the mark of us Donatello fans? :DI like to think so. I've noticed that Mikey fans are extremely optimistic and noticeably more supportive than others; I'd like to think that Don fans are more willing to look at things from all angles. Whether the chicken pr the egg came first is not my concern and is likely different on an individual basis. We're mostly in our 20s, correct? I'm 25. I assume most of us grew up with the OT...24, here. I certainly was exposed to the OT first, but I fell in love with the Turtles through the toys, video games, and (you guessed it) the live-action films.

In the Mirage comics:
1. Leo
2. Donnie
3. Raph
4. Mikey

In the '87 series:
1. Leo
2. Donnie
3. Mikey
4. Raph

In the live-action movies:
1. Leo
2. Raph
3. Mikey
4. Donnie

In the 2k3 series:
1. Leo
2. Mikey
3. Raph
4. Donnie

In the '07 CGI movie:
1. Leo
2. Raph
3. Donnie
4. Mikey

In the 2k12 series (based on character design and the small footage so far):
1. Leo (duh)
2. Raph
3. Mikey
4. Donnie

Edit:
My favourite Leo is the 2k3 version. He was calm, collected, an excellent warrior and had badass one liners.
My favourite Donnie is the Mirage comics version. He was very serious and didn't come off as a total nerd/geek in spite of his extraordinary intellect.
My favourite Mikey is the 2k3 version. Incredibly funny and also a fantastic fighter. Had some of the best lines in the entire show.
My favourite Raph is the '07 CGI movie version. His appearance and anger defined him to perfection.

The Nickelodeon TMNT seem very promising. The new Leo and Raph versions of the upcoming series have the potential to become my favourite versions of those 2 characters. Mikey and Donnie don't have a chance to dethrone their respective counterparts (2k3 and Mirage comics) from what I've seen.

All four turtles are awesome in their own way, and I have a huge soft spot for Mikey, but Raph has been my favourite since I was 3, and remains my favourite well over 20 years later. My bond with that character is wicked tight, no matter the version. From his design/fighting style, to his intense personality, to the deeper conflicts/insecurities he struggles with, to his relationships with each of his brothers (especially Donnie), I get it. So, Raph. 100%.

Just the other day when her son was asked "who is your favorite Turtle?" he replied Raphael. Although I have a sneaking suspicion he was influenced in other ways as well.

So yeah, perhaps the Leo-bias in your family is because of you, Icegaze. Have you ever influenced them, to your knowledge?

Bias? Which bias? :goof:

Seriously though, I'm not in the position to really influence my little cousins or their friends for that matter. It's not like we have family TMNT group sessions or the like. It's just what I gather from discussion with a few of them. Leo seems to be up there in the general. I know Mikey and Raph are also very popular for the under 15 year olds. Donnie, however...

Also, my lil bro who is in his early 20s used to like Raphael ("used to" because he dropped TMNT at age 10 after he learnt of DBZ). My 2 older cousins used to like Leo and Donnie.

My first son might be named Leo (Lionel) :D so he definitely would have NO choice but to LOVE Leonardo! :flaming:

Ohh, I really love all the guys, but I suppose my overall favourite is Donatello. It was Don during the 80's cartoon when I was a kid, but it was Raph when I first saw the first movie. As I read the mirage and archie comics I finally settled on Donnie as my favourite.
Why? I'm not sure. I always preferred the more intellectual, technical types of characters in the cartoons I liked at the time so I guess it stems from there.

Doesn't really have anything to do with him having a purple bandana though! :tlol: In fact I kind of resented that he had the purple banana because too often in the OT it went a horrible shade of lilac.

Raph was always my second favourite, but over the last few years I've been leaning more towards Mikey.

I will bite even though you already know my answer!:twink::tlol:

I have always had the sme order of wait for it....1.Michelangelo 2. Raphael 3. Leonardo 4. Donatello. No dislike of any of them! I wonder if anyone esle has unwaivered from their order of favorites since they were two when it comes to Ninja Turtles?

Michelangelo is my favorite thanks to Townsend Coleman, who I see as giving Michelangelo character. Something that was not developed much at the time the original cartoon started. He was an athlete, funny yet knew when to get serious, laidback and the most actual teenager of them all due ot his interest in comics, surfing/skating,video games, and B-movies as well as the one who loved pizza the most. I only wish he could have taken the lead more often and not have been the most captured turtle.

Raphael despite being mostly a hothead and sibling rivalry with Leonardo I love him for his sarcasm and laid back nature. Its prominent here unlike anywhere else. Rob does an amazing job of giving Raphael a wider perosnality as a hotheaded scarastic jokster. He adds fun along with Michelangelo and a sense of adventure. When I think of Raphael its Rob Paulsen no matter how many otherr version appear and the sarcasm is lacked. Rob defiinng Raphael for me hurts Nick's Donatello because I here Raphael talking to himself.

I know that I am a perfect meld of Michelangelo and Leonardo. Despite that its always been Michelangelo first and Raphael a close second. Leo has the best weapon and like him I am hardworking and disciplined, take a step back and examine things before jumping in, and I like to lead and inspire when I get the chance. Its part of my desire to be a teacher and move up the education hierachy. At times in the '03 cartoon it was The Leonardo Show which got annoying when watching in in a chronological order massive marathon. It was like Mike supplied the comedic relief and Raphael the iner-conflict for The Leonardo Show. Despite that the '03 cartoon did do the best version in my eyes of Leonardo's character.

Donatello has always been the least appealing to me. He is far from being a bad character. He is just the least appealing to what I like and furtherest from in personality. He is the techhead while I am more the idea man. I like the fact that he is the strategist and he brings that to the table while the other three turtles possess certain gifts in fighting such as Mike's athleticisim and agility, Raphael's strength, and Leonardo's discipline. I would say as much as the '87 cartoon defines the TMNT I like the '03 cartoon version best and the movies Don.

I'm not so sure. Most girls I know cite Donatello as their favourite... or, more specifically, "I like the purple one," or, "Which one is the smart one, again?"

I'm a chick, and I do prefer Mikey over Don. :) So I may be alone, but whatevs. xD

I dunno, something about Michelangelo really puts me in a good mood. I love his attitude, and he's just special to me. I also think his weapon is quite cool, with Raph's sai coming in a close second for me on the 'awesome-weapon-o-meter". lol All in all, when I first saw the show, I was drawn to Mikey slightly before Donatello, so that's why he got my vote in the end.

I also really love Donatello. Mind you, purple IS my favorite color, but that being his bandanna color is just a bonus. I think when I saw my first episode centered around him, I really started to appreciate him and his quirky attitude a lot like mine.

My turtle order has to be...

1. Michelangelo
2. Donatello
3. Raphael
4. Leonardo

But I ♥ them all!

Gonna have to go with Don on this one ;) Admittedly though, he's pretty much on par with Raph for me, as they have the most interesting relationship in my book and I love exploring their interactions more than any of the others (probably because they feel the most opposite from one another while getting along so well, which gives opportunity for countless scenarios). Not only that, but I prefer to think of them as the two middle children, as opposed to grouping the two younger brothers and two older brothers. As the middle child myself I can myself as a blend of them both, more than I can see much of myself in either Leo or Mike, which I think also majorly ups their appeal for me.

True, my choosing of Don was partly influenced by the fact that as a child, "sharing favorites" with my siblings was a no-no for us, and as she already had proclaimed Raph as "hers" and was a much bigger turtle fan than me at the time, I was content to choose "the other cool one". I do admit, I dislike how he's sometimes portrayed as a nerdy, skinny wuss compared to his brothers, because the Don I remember from the first film was just as awesome and attitude-filled as the rest (plus the only one to actually ride a skateboard!). I could do without that perspective on him and in some ways it has at times pushed me away and more towards Raph, but in the end, Raph's over-excess of angst will inevitably push me back to Don and all is well once more in my turtle-verse as I just retreat back into my own headcannon of how the brothers interact together.

It's funny; Leonardo might have been my favourite (first instinct: blue), were it not for my older brother having already "claimed" him. But it all worked out, anyway, since I didn't care for movie Leo as much and always found myself drawn to Donatello's sheer awesomeness (the bō and genius factors surely play their parts in said awesomeness).

It wasn't until I turned twenty or so that I really started identifying with Leonardo, primarily due to having moved out on my own and learning that I'm the only responsible one out of my roommates. I was heavily watching the 2003 series at that time, and since Leo is the most developed character in that universe, it's easy to see why I came closer to his character. There was even a moment during my time feeling like the only responsible one that I had almost reconsidered my top Turtle, but in the end, I feel it will always be Donnie-boy. Leonardo has gone from last to second-favourite Turtle to me throughout my Life, so that's saying something, at least.

Listed order seems to be going around. I'm sure mine is obvious and easy to figure out, but:
Donatello
Leonardo
Raphael
Michelangelo

Okay, basically it's obvious with mine. Honestly, Leo's my favorite. Still, these polls will not determine who the best turtle is. I look on the Nickelodeon discussion boards and they all seem to be popular. Surprisingly, there are people who like the leader. Not saying these polls are a waste, but I've come to realize they don't always show who's the favorite. It changes everytime.

Where have the Leo fans gone? Well, one of them took a break from the forums for awhile before he could come back on.:twink: Yep, that's me. I'm back. Maybe the others are not aware of this poll or they have already voted on a past poll.

With Jason Biggs taking the helm as Leo, I was shocked. I thought he could do pretty well, and so far . . . he has.:tsmile: I've seen clips, bought the Power FX toy, and listened to his dialogue on the katana sword. He's going to do great!:tcool:

I've always liked the leader in blue because my favorite color being blue, and he also carried swords with him. Plus, he was the leader. I always admired the leaders. Yet, when I got older, I began to like him more due to his diligency and strong heart. I like people like that. They show that they care about getting their work/job done. I kind of looked up to him especially since I'm sometimes diligent myself. Also, I prefer Leo over the others because of his strengths. He's like all his brothers in a different way. He's smart, but not the brains like Donatello. He's strong, but not the muscle like Raphael. Lastly, he's funny, but not the jokester like Michelangelo is. That sets some nice examples for why I call him my favorite.:tgrin:

For me it will always be Raph. Admittedly, during the first few months of liking TMNT back in 1987 through the cartoon, I liked Michaelangelo and owned only his toy of the original Playmates toys. But after those few months, and I guess after looking beyond the toys, I've always understood Raph the most. He wants to help people and stop injustice. He's passionate about it and that sometimes gets him in trouble. He just wants to get things done....now. Going too fast or doing things recklessly. I also enjoy his type of humor. Both in the 1987 cartoon and in the movies/comics. Kind of a tough, sarcastic sense of humor. But it's because he's so passionate and wants to do the right thing and stop evil all of the time that ultimately draws me to liking Raph. :tcool:

I made a thread maybe two years ago asking who was everyone's favorite "Turtle duo": meaning, which two Turtles did you like seeing paired up the most.

I voted for Donatello & Raphael. Brains and brawn, and plenty of room for character development because these two are so drastically different yet share such a tight bond. I explained my reasoning further in a more elaborate fashion in the aforementioned thread, which I will find later. Too tired at the moment.

I've always been a Leo fan even as a youngster. It's funny because when I was younger my favorite color was purple because it was my birth stone. I'm not sure why I liked Leo back then though. Maybe it was because of his swords and just how cool he was as a leader. As I've gotten older and have watched the 2k3 series, I've begun to really relate to him on wanting to do well and not failing. This was especially true during my college years when it came to math. I felt a lot like Leo did in season 4, so I could relate to his despair of feeling like he wasn't good enough.

So, yeah, I've always been a Leo fan and always will be.

It's funny, 'cause Raphael was my second-favourite Turtle for a good long time, until I started to identify with Leonardo. Raph never seems to have a problem with Donatello, but that makes sense, because he probably feels no sense of competition from Don. His ego can rest, so to speak.

My favourite pair is and always will be Mike and Don. I feel like they act more like good buddies than any other pair of the four (in most incarnations, anyway), and it certainly doesn't hurt that my younger brother always favoured Michelangelo.

To me, Mike and Don being "best bros" was all over the place, and since we watched the movies and played Turtles in Time nearly every day, their pairing feels like an intrinsic part of the Turtles' family dynamic.

I've always loved raphael. Tbh, i started liking raph for the simple reason that he wore the red bandana. I guess when you're kid you dont really get to think about it that much. Raphael, the red ranger etc.

I've been looking at favorite tmnt character polls for the last couple of days after i found out about the new series. I'm surprised on how popular Leonardo is now..Most likely because of the 2k3 series. I know that in the original tmnt series, Mikey and raph were clealry the most popular turtle and now it seems like Leonardo just got in the mix.

I sorta want to see more of donatello with this new series. Maybe add in more personality with donnie. I was watching the training trailer a day ago and i absolutely hated the fact that donnie and mikey looked way out of leo and raph league. These days I'm watching some of the latest pre-Red Sky episodes of the original cartoon I had never seen before, and I'm noticing how Raph had become sometimes angrier and more aggressive, i.e. much better.

This poll has actually made me think a bit. For the past few years if you'd asked me I'd have told you Raph was my favorite. His hotheadedness, his sarcasm, that's pretty much me, well minus the asskicking Ninja abilities that is.
However as a kid my favorite was Mikey. I loved his humor, his good natured attitude, that sort of thing. Mikey was my favorite figure, he was the character I played as most in the video games, I drank coke out of a water bottle with Mikey's picture on it and when I went to see the first movie and they were giving away TMNT plush at the theatre I requested and got Mikey who proceeded to watch the movie with me. So basically Mikey was front and center of all my best TMNT experiences as a kid. So when it comes right down to it, it's Mikey who means the most to me. Mikey is my favorite turtle.

Leo has the best weapons though.

All of the turtles are cool, but I've always been drawn to Leonardo for some reason. Perhaps it's his drive and ambition, and the way he always works so hard to be the best he can be. My own personality is rather driven, so I can relate to that. I also admire his leadership skills, something I have tried hard to develop in my own life. Then there's the fact that blue and green are my favorite colors.
Donatello is moving up on my list with the 2003 cartoon. I love his relatively gentle personality and can relate to his passion for science.
But, I also like Raph's fiery nature, especially in the first movie. Mikey is probably my least favorite, but I do like him. He cracks me up sometimes!

As a kid Raph was easily my favorite. Now I enjoy all 4, but I think I am mostly fond of Leonardo and Raph.

I am gonna just go with Leo... but it is no easy choice. My favorite turtle can chance at the drop of a hat :p

I feel that in the new 2012 series, from what have have seen *SO FAR* Leo and Don are the most improved. They have made them both a lot more interesting. Leo used to feel pretty bland, just a standard leader type you always see in teams, sorta like Cyclops in the X-Men. But now I relate a lot more to him since he's given more of a personality.

Sorry to bump this. Not a lot of leo love in these past polls i see? I have to admit, donnie at number one is surprising. I can't recall knowing anyone who ever said Donny was their favorite in my life (besides these forums). Had to vote for mr red.

Well, Mikey's in the lead. But Donnie was for most of the poll. As a Donnie fan, I honestly didn't expect it because he usually is (or was) the least popular Turtle. We speculated on some possible reasons throughout this thread.

And don't be sorry for bumping! This poll spans a year's time.

Leo isn't too far away from Raph now. Interestingly, Leo wasn't shown much love so far here but in the last Technodrome "Favorite Turtle" poll before this, Leo won most popular Turtle. So you never know. It really depends who sees the poll, who participates in the poll, what members are active at the time, etc.

I feel like a young brat.

I grew up with 4kids (and a bit of the OT, since that was also showing in Egypt at the time), and my favorite turtle was definitely Leonardo, hands-down. My favorite color is blue because of him; I guess that as a young gal, he kind of was what I wanted to be, ambitious and diligent. My mentality was and still is that if it's not your best, it's basically not worth it. Hell, I even liked Leo during season 4.

But as time went on and I started reading/watching more ninja turtles stuff, hurrrrr, circumstances changed and I started to develop a sort of apathy for Leonardo as the "vanilla turtle," per say, just because I just didn't care for the way he was portrayed in the franchise in general. I started caring less for him, I suppose. My growing favorites were Donnie and Mikey because they also sort of embodied what people in general needed a bit more of, and they were both more relatable in some respects than Leo was.

Raph, however, always seemed to be the most fallible out of the bunch, and somehow along the line he became my favorite turtle even though I share very little in common with him, and certainly not as much as I do with Leo or Don. I dunno why--it just always seemed that for all his faults, he was still an okay (relatively speaking) guy. Most people I know are kind of like Raph, most definitely not the people you'd eat ice cream with, but they aren't really all that bad.

tl;dr
It's Raph right now, by a slim margin from Leo, Don, and Mike who hold a tie for me.

I love Leo. He has my favorite colors and the coolest weapons. He was the guy I wanted to be and still am. He was smart, strong and funny. He has a sibling rivalry with a reckless family members. I train for track and read about the human body to perform the best I can. Each show seems to have a leo that reflects my life. The 80's cartoon I want to be like Leo so I study, train for track and try to be a good son. 2003's leo help me realize that I shouldn't be hard on myself and understand the weight of responsibility. I really connected with this version and learn how to be a team captain in track. I find it funny that 2012's Leo is just like me. He is the leader but unsure of himself and try to be like his favorite hero. However, he is coming into his own by experience.:tcool:
I find ironic that my favorite character is going through similar journey like me.

It is not an easy choice; I love them all for different reasons. This is a lot harder than choosing a favorite Beatle. Because over the year my favorite turtle has changed, many times. As of the last few months it’s been Donatello, possibly due to my recent interest in biology, computers, and fractals.

As for my favorite version of Donatello... Its between IDW, and the first film.

Like the way you think, I second that! Being an electronic music producer/vj myself I have often hoped for this too. Solfeggio Frequencies might aid Donnie in meditation. His knowledge of geometry, fractals, and patterns found in nature, might fit well with this also. I would love to see him tinkering with a fractal program, explaining genetic algorithms with mutation.

I hope they do answer questions concerning power, water, and food supply in the new nick show. Donnie's knowledge of fractals might come in handy for building an antenna to snag up some of the city's wifi. That can't be done easily with all that cement between them and the streets. Maybe even tapping into the city's surveillance systems, he could watch the streets from the lair, just monitoring the city's cameras.

They got to be freegrans...

At different points of my life I've had a different favorite. But I can't choose just one, neither of them bore me and their personalities make them all relatable and lovable to me.

The turtle who has my heart is Raphael. I admire his ferocity and need to protect. I also have an aggressive personality, so I can relate to him as an angry New Yorker :)

While I really enjoyed the 1990 TMNT movie Raph, I have completely fallen in love with the Nick cartoon series Raph. His witty quips have me smiling and I love the way he interacts with his brothers.

For me, it's a close call between Raph and Don, but I picked Donnie in the end. I love all four in their own ways, but Raph and Don are a little above. I grew up with OT and loved Raph the most, but 2k3 really got me loving Don. His personality on that show is my favorite. He's so gentle and quiet and well...geeky! BUT.....2k12 Leo....I love him....he's giving me a new appreciation for Leonardo!!

Dunno how I didn't see this one until now. This was a really tough one for me, but in the end, I had to go with Michelangelo.

Depending on the incarnation, he's not always my favorite of the four, but overall, in the long run of the franchise, I do tend to gravitate towards him. We're a lot alike, him and I. We both like to goof off, we have problems taking things seriously, we like to defuse bad situations with humor if we can, and are both fairly creative people (I'd like to think I am anyway).

As for why I didn't pick some of the others...

Leonardo: In general, he's probably my least favorite of the Turtles. In certain situations, he just comes across as way too much of a Cyclops from X-Men expy for my tastes, and I never cared for him either. He's too...perfect, usually, Splinter's 'best' student, the leader who you're supposed to like, which just makes me dislike him in the end. I don't hate him though, I like all the Turtles. And I do have favorite incarnations of him, which would probably be...Old Toon Leo. The Nick incarnation is growing on me fast though.

Donatello: I honestly almost voted for him here, but had to remind myself that it was mostly bias from him being my favorite on the new cartoon. Donatello is a lot of fun though, but sometimes it seems he just gets pushed into 'the smart guy' and left there with nothing else to contribute. I think that's why I'm liking the Nick incarnation (which is my favorite form of Donnie) so much, because the crush on April thing is giving him another layer that I really like. That said though, due to liking him so much here and remembering Turtles Forever, I look back fondly on Old Toon Donnie a lot now too.

And finally, Raphael: Back when I was a kid, he was my favorite of the Turtles. Be it his snarky, smartalecky incarnation in the Old Toon (which is without a doubt my favorite version of the character, despite him not being very Raph-like), or the angrier, more-Raph-like version seen in the live-action movies, Raph was the guy I wanted to be so bad. The fighter, the tough guy, the one confident enough to take the micky out of people with jokes while still kicking their butt. Eventually though, I came to realize that, if not done well, he comes off as way too angsty, and that most of what I liked in him, I could also get out of Wolverine.

Michelangelo though, as I said before, is just fun no matter what show it is. I used to balk a bit at him in the Old Toon I'll admit, since it seemed like he was everyone's automatic favorite there, but I think I'd like him better getting to see it again now. 2K3 Mikey was fun too, albeit a bit annoying and not as funny usually. And I'm absolutely loving Mikey in the new show, though he makes my brain hurt a lot too. My absolute favorite Mikey's though, comes down to a tough choice between two of them - live-action Mikey and Mirage Mikey.

Live-Action Mikey had something the toon Mikey I knew as a kid didn't, he could actually be taken seriously in a fight and still didn't lose his goofy edge. He also seemed to have a lot of heart, and it was in his scene with Donatello where he ignored the topic of Splinter dying some day, that I noticed how much of a coping method his humor was. That's where my love of Mirage Mikey comes in, just from the stuff I've read and read about, because it seems he's got that in spades there too.

So there you have it, a way too long post on why I choose Mikey. :P If you actually read all this, you deserve a medal.

P.S.

Looking at an old post of mine on another board, in a 'Top Five Comic Characters' thread, I had Mikey as my favorite Turtle (but second favorite character) there too. Woot for consistency!

It is hard to choose as I see a bit of myself in all of them, I see the struggles of dealing with responsibility with Leonardo, like Donatello I am good with computers. Like Michelangelo I have quite the appetite and appreciate a good joke, and like Raphael I have struggled with anger in the past. My favorite can change at times, when I was a kid it was Donatello I liked that could make some cool gadgets and kick some serious butt. Right now I would say Raphael takes the prize what can I say he is my favorite hot head.

My favorite has and will always be Donnie. The simple answer is that in the turtles in time game for the snes he was the turtle I most played with because of the range of his staff. However, as the years have gone on I've grown to appreciate several aspects of Donnie's character that I probably wasn't aware of when I was five. I love the fact that Donatello is the go to guy whenever the turtles need an answer, he is the one they look to when something is out of the realm of their understanding. I've loved every incarnation of Donnie, however I think the new nickelodeon version may be my favorite, either that or the original movie, can never go wrong with that!

Forgot to add purple is my favorite color too!

That is hard to decide. I almost all like them equally but my Vote goes for Donatello.
Why? Hard to describe, I just happened to like him, back in the old Cartoon. The whole tinkering and building stuff is what I probably liked (and still do) about him. And because when I played Turtles in Time with my Brother on the SNES, I always played as him for unknown Reason.. no wait, his weapon the Bo is awesome. 'Staff-Weapons' are my favourite ones since I was a kid..subconsciously, I'm sure of it |D
That's with me, playing Multiplayer Games..always start to like the Character I have to play or randomly choose..natural isn't it?

I voted for Raph i like his sarcasm Mikey made me laugh when i was i was younger but since i outgrew his since of humor I started to appreciate Raph's more. It seemed most people liked Mikey most from what I remember but maybe that was when we were kids. However among many of my friends who were born in 1990 and didn't constantly rent the TMNT tapes from the video store they got to know TMNT from the video games and all wanted Donatello because of his range and by the way it didn't matter because it was TMNT II. Once I was talking about the series with a friend and he was like I didn't know it was a tv show:teek: he thought it was just a video game. Well I guess I'm not that much better I didn't know about the comic book until like a year ago when I started watching the old series again.

Here are my opinions (just comics, Movies, 80's, 2k3 and 012 show)):

First of all: I like them all and to choose one is a stupid idea because the turtles only work as a Team. Sure there are mini series comics and all, but the real turtles feeling only appears if all 4 are together because they are funny and cool at the same time if they can interaction with each other. So i like all for sure.

But let's take a closer single rating:

Leonardo
is my favorite because he is like me the calm, focused more spiritual guy (I'am not a christian but i would call myself spiritual, yes).
I like his calm character and his interaction with others.
Ireally dislike the hero-guys in movies and cartoon ( i go more for anti-heroes) but leonardo is different. The Shows and the comics doesn't show him as a hero who is in the middle. They show him more as the backbone of the group. More a supporting character that takes initiative if they don't know what to do anymore.

Raphael
I like Raphael in the 80's Shows, his sarcasm is priceless. In the other reincarnations he is agressive, impulsive and angry all the time. It is totally different to me, but i can ofter undestand his point. I guess my relationship to raphael is like Leo's to Raphael. I like his weapons and fighting style but a hothead is not totally in my favor.

Donatello
He was my favorite Turtle as i was younger. I thought Donatello is the one who are at most in dislike of other people because he is the scientist and has not a cool weapon. I was so wrong in fact.. I like his colour, i like his Weapon, and i like that he invents things. But i'am not much a tech-guy...machines and techniqs are not that much meaningful for me so he lost his favorit position.

Also i don't like in the cartoons it is all about Donatello. He does all, he invents all, and only because of Donatello the Turtles can win. They should have make Donatello the leader of the Turtles.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo is the guy i like at least. I'am not a big fan of nunchakos either. But his character is totally different than mine..I'am not a party dude..i hate partys. The only thing that i have the same with Micherlango is my love for pizza and my love for (old console) Videogames. I always thought Michelangelo is the most popular turtle back in days. Today i think it is Raphael. I think Michelangelo adds a good character to the team and to the show in general. He is needed, but he is not my favorite.. I can't identify with him.

But that is why evryone has an own favorite turtle..We choose someone to identify. But as i said before, in fact i like all because every character of the turtles is a part of our own personality. The calm one, the hotheaded, the thinker and the party-dude. We have them all in us.

Many would agree with this as Donnie practically was the leader in a lot of eps.

Well said Theli! :) I agree with that concept completely, in fact I would probably take that concept a little further. I think all of these 4 personality traits can appear in somebody in just the right conditions. Whether its a particular hobby/profession, in relationships, or depending on particular pet peeves. If you push the situation far enough in a person and know someone well enough, you'll see all these 4 Turtles some how in one person.

One example: You may be a Michelangelo to your siblings, a Leonardo to your children/nephew/niece, a Raphael to your friends or annoying neighbors, and a Donatello in your workplace/profession.

In fact, in several depictions of the TMNT even they "changed character" in particular stressful, tense situations.

...But if I REALLY had to decide...
It would be Leonardo, but barely by a sliver more compared to the other three. I can easily identify with all four of the Turtles. All of them have wonderful traits and strengths that cover each others weakness, but the reason Leonardo wins out by the slightest margin is probably because I respect people who actively strive to live nobly especially when pop culture looks unfavorably, rather than respects, those "prudes".

 LOL, but just wait I'm sure it'll change tomorrow...

Mine is raph and for good reason. He's brilliant in the ot, the first film, and he's pretty cool in the Mirage books too . But lately with the newer cartoons and the comics I'm really liking Leo. He's passionate, cares about his family and is a nerd. I love how he gets into sci fi in the nick toon. Leonardo in the 2k3 series during his micro series moments just kicked ass too. He also cuts heads off in the comics, and takes shredder down alone. His katanas are killer. Leo ****ing rules. That is all

My favorite by far is Leonardo. Selfless, honorable, loyal, unwavering, strong on the inside as well as the outside. He stands for ideals in a world of chaos. I could go on and on about his virtues. Let's just say I'm guilty of a little hero-worshipping where Leonardo is concerned.

Many fans seem to think of him as up-tight and rigid, or too controlling and bossy. I see him as shouldering the burden of setting the example and rising to set the absolute best one he can, of protecting the only family he has from a ruthless enemy and sometimes from themselves. He may be Splinter's favored child, but there's a reason for it. His dedication and devotion to his Father and family is what defines him.

This makes an excellent character study for times he is brought to the breaking point or made vulnerable. Which I'd love to see more of.

Donatello and Leonardo tied at 34, while Michelangelo and Raphael tied for the #1 spot at 43 votes a piece!

Raphael is my favorite turtle, there are certain incarnations I like more than others, I still like the 4Kids version of Raph but I think they took his personality of tough & rough around the edges a little too far in that he came across as a jerk a lot. I loved Raph in the OT, and Mirage Raph as well.

Leo has traditionally been my least favorite turtle, most likely due to his clashing with Raphael, but that has changed as their dynamic is less abrasive towards each other in both the Nick cartoon & IDW comic, which is something I enjoy very much.

I voted Raphael.
For me, it's a very hard call between these two.
Ultimately the vote went to Raph because his effectiveness and narrative over the mediums I been able to see. Aside from his wise-guy incarnation in the 1980s cartoon, I love his battle and the character is just so cool. He's very strong and as much a leader as Leo. Perhaps he's not as headstrong as Leo though.
I do think that Raph would be the Turtle to make a tough decision, if it came down to it, that the others couldn't. He also uses the Sai and I love those weapons. Especially when I started to learn how to use them myself, so badass.

Donatello is awesome too, I have always liked the character but, honestly, they dont seem to do much with him. He's the brains and I love that about him.
He's the smart guy who can come up with a better solution than just straight-out brawling. His weapon is the staff and it matches his personality. I never really knew what you could do with a staff until I took a Shaolin Staff class. It's an offensive weapon as well as a defensive weapon (just like the Sai also). It can be straight or it can be round (while spinning). It keeps you honest also, misuse will result in smashed limbs or lumps on the head. It can be a weapon or a tool, such as something to hold a bag filled with goodies, or it can act as a wedge or additional reach. It's regarded as the "mother of all weapons" because, really... if you learn how to use a staff properly, you can pick up anything and use it.
It's as passive as it is aggressive and I think that's Donnie in a nutshell.
He's brilliant and can come up with plans and gadgets no one else could. He would be the last in a fight but in a fight, no one would be able to get close to him (effectively, if they weren't still students too).
Aside from the weapon analogy... He's not really important to any major stories (that I have seen or that I am aware of... which in the grand scheme of things, probably isn't much). In the comics he's got some good stuff but otherwise, as I remember the show especially, They seem to focus on the other 3, especially Mikey for his comical surfer-ness.

Anyway, yup. Vote for Raph but it's cruel to pick one.

Edit:
As of this posting, Donnie trails Leo by 2 points (34 to 36) and Mike and Raph tie at 46 each!

I have two favourites depending on which series we're talking about.

'87 cartoon - It's defo Donnie. I have a real thing for people who are either nerds or freaks or outsiders. Sometimes I'll like them just because no-one else does. He's intelligent and creative. Not necessarily the best fighter physically but tends to combine his strengths to overcome his weaknesses.

2012 cartoon - Mikey because he has the best lines. I have tears from crying with laughter. He's also less 'stoner' this time round, more 'you gave him E numbers?!' ;)

I like both versions of Raphael although the sarcasm gives '87 a slight edge.

I've never really been fussed for Leo although the further I get into 2012/3 the more I discover, which is good.

I like Raphael the best obviously, as can be seen by my board name.

I have a few reasons why I like him though. My favorite color is red so when I first started watching the animated series in the late 80s I gravitated towards red. As I got older I started to like him for other reasons. The biggest reason I can think of came from the 1990 movie. I was 4 or 5 when I first started watching it and Raphael curses a few times in the movie. My parents still allowed me to watch it even though Raphael swears. He only says "damn" but for a 5 year old that was a bad word and you kind of giggle to yourself that your parents "seemed" to miss that.

I also liked how Raphael took on a large amount of the foot clan by himself in the movie. Raphael just seemed like a total badass.

My second favorite turtle is Don because he was voiced by Corey Feldman in the movie and I enjoy Feldman's work before he became a huge drug addict and therefore irrelevant.

I guess you can say the first movie had a huge impact on me and I must have seen it a hundred times. I still miss the pizza hut little league commcercial at the start of the VHS tape. I still expect it to be there when I watch the movie on subsequent formats. It felt like part of the movie and my entire family knew the words to the song. haha

I discovered the Turtles through the original movie- and LOVED him from the start. I liked his sense of humor, his laid-back attitude, his friendly nature, and his sensitivity- even when he avoided answering Donnie's question about loosing Splinter, it was obvious that he really DID care- he just didn't want to think about the bad things. That always struck a chord with me. He is optimistic, idealistic, caring, and just wants to be loved/accepted. That's always appealed to me.

Of course, then I discovered the OT series, and his more wild, crazy, "party animal" side. I loved him even more because of that- he was everything I wasn't (I was a quiet, bookish kid) but WANTED to be. The popular, funny, outgoing one. I admired that. Even tried to be more like that myself , to learn to open up and be less of a wallflower.

Now, many years later, I STILL love him most of the four, for all those reasons, and more. I recently got into the 2K3 series and the comics for the first time, and now that I've seen how compassionate and creative he is, I like him even more! I even found his bragging over the Battle Nexus Tournament endearing, as it showed that he has flaws, too- but that he could also be as much of a bad-a$$ as the others when he tries. When everyone was expecting the final match to come down to Leo and Usagi, Mikey came out on top (whether it was really luck or skill is anyone's guess- but I hold that his victory over Raph was VERY much calculated. He's an expert at pushing peoples' buttons.) What made that even better was that Raph was SO sure he'd wipe the floor with his little bro- and ended up eating crow!

Don't get me wrong, I like Donnie really well, too. He's smart, funny (his banter with Mikey in the movies), good with his hands, and sweet. But Mikey's always seemed to have the biggest heart, IMO. My favorite episode EVER was when he got Klunk in the X-Mas one of 2K3, which also reminded me that he had pets in the OT show, too. I gotta love an guy woh's great with animals and kids!

This is a tough choice as I like all of them equally. I had different role play sets and many of the regular figures from the old toy line. If I had to pick just one I guess it would be Michelangelo for me. He was the first Turtle I ever got back in 1988 and I have always enjoyed his different incarnations. Even his 2012 version is fun to watch.

I also loved the Nunchucks and would make them out of jump rope as a kid. :D

I voted Raph. Not the 80s Raph but a more serious Raph. Preferibly missing an eye.

Raphael all the way, both in the original films and 1987 cartoon, although as a kid I liked Mikey at first.

As for the 2012 series, I think it's got to be Donatello. Rob Paulsen does such a great job with him. Plus, I love the romance between him and April.

If the poll was still open I'd have went for Donatello (as my name suggests). He's always been my favourite as I respect his genius level intellect and pacifist nature.

As I've aged I've grown to appreciate Raphael's 'antihero' role more too but Donatello has always been the one for me.

Too bad the poll is closed

Oh well Raph won

Though I really have no idea if I should pick him or Leo for overall. I mean I prefer Leo in the four films and 2003 but Raph for the OT and 2012 toon way more than Leo in any incarnation, he got a really snarky streak I like(and in 2012 case even though he is still short tempered it's not as overpowering as the other versions of angry Raph)
