View Full Version : Who will be the first 4kids character to appear in the Nick show?

In the IDW comics we've already seen the return of a 4kids created character, Angel of the Purple Dragons.
While we're seeing many Mirage and Original toon characters returning in the Nick show, who do you think the first 4kids created character will be?
My gut tells me Hun, but it would be weird to see him without Casey Jones so maybe in Season 2.

Very good question, i'm not that sure though. I kinda don't see Hun coming back though, i don't know what though.
Maybe Bishop, but i'm not really sure, you just stumped me!

Here's hoping for Bishop. It was nice to have a legitimately threatening villain that wasn't Shredder.

I could see them using the Battle Nexus tournament concept in this show.

I could see Bishop being the Principle of April's school.
That's an idea and a half. Principal Bishop
As for Battle Nexus, I'd doubt it. I find most CG shows try to be less busy as possible. That rules out Archie's Stump Wrestling too.
I can picture Bishop in some shape or form fitting with the tone of this show.

I wouldn't make a guess, but 2k3 characters I don't hope to see are:
Ch'Rell (The Shredder being human is part of what makes him interesting, in my opinion, and if he had stayed dead when his head came off, the show would have been much better for it.)
The Ultimate Ninja (He was too bland to call himself the ultimate anything.)
Ancient One (I didn't care for the dragon-avatars and magic gimmicks he brought to the show.)
Turtle Titan (Aside from Nobody, I never really liked the idea of superheroes around the TMNT - I didn't really feel like Justice Force worked that well in the comics in the first place. I also hate to see Mikey almost get character development, only to instead become more and more of an idiot for the rest of the series.)
I'd be happy to see Hun, Bishop, Angel, and even Garbageman.

Nonsense. The show was fine with the Ch'rell reveal. Rather than be a slave to the (frankly boring) source material, that revelation helped give the show some innovation and shaped it into something that stood apart from the other interpretations.
Secondly, the 2k3 series, for all it's dark content, was first and foremost a kids show, there was NO chance of leaving Saki decapitated, look at the bigger picture.

Nobody... And I don't mean the character Nobody.
I get the feeling that the folks behind this show are interested in borrowing from the OT and other sources, but nothing inherently from 2K3.

I doubt it. We're probably going to see something from the 4kids series.
The fact that they're using Karai and the Elite Guards and they're probably going to be more similar to their 4kids incarnations than their Mirage counterparts says enough.
Before 4kids, Karai was just an obscure Mirage character. It was the cartoon that made Karai into a major character for kids.

Well, I thank you for resorting to name calling, but I'm entitled to my opinion. I felt that part of what made Saki (especially the 4kids version before the Ch'Rell retcon) interesting was that he appeared to be just a man who had made choices in life that left him completely ruthless. The revelation that "oh, he's just an evil alien in a robot suit", to me, sucked all the drama out of the notion that this was a man who had made himself into something terrible (which is why they showed his face before he was ever shown with the helmet on - to establish that this is just a man who has made himself into a monster, not a monster pretending to be a man). And I really did think, in many ways, that the 4Kids show did use him to much more interesting effect than the comics did, up until the point when it turned out he wasn't a real person. And yes, I know that standards and practices and the FCC wouldn't have allowed a human decapitation (and I could go on a whole other rant about censorship and what I think of standards and practices and the FCC), but even within the boundaries of American censorship rules, it could have been handled differently than retconning his entire backstory. Skipping the decapitation altogether, or even a cheap move like saying that the one who got decapitated was just a fake robot Shredder would have worked better, because while it would have been a lame cop-out, at least it wouldn't have permanently ruined the character's backstory. This is my opinion, and it does not make me an imbecile, just as your opinion doesn't make you one.

Very well put. I agree with you completely, however I did enjoy Shredder as an utrom. It added a good twist that I think should stay with that series. The way I treat it is that the first of the series is one universe and after the reveal is another universe (I think that's when it started to get a bit more silly anyway).

It was Peter Lair's idea to make Oroku Saki into an utrom, Beside we didn't saw Ch'rell that much compare to the Oroku Saki persona. In season three of the 4Kids cartoon we saw the businessman side of Oroku Saki, in season five it was revealed that Ch'rell was an imposter and there was a human Oroku Saki.

I haven't heard that before. However, Justice Force was (as far as I know) his idea as well, but that doesn't automatically make it brilliant. Smart, creative people can occasionally come up with ideas that just don't work. I admire Peter Laird a lot, but I don't think he's infallible.

Yes, a long long way in the past, and the turtles never met him in season 1, so that was almost completely pointless. If it had turned out that Ch'rell was only an impostor starting just before the scene where he got decapitated, that might have actually meant something, as that would have actually undone the retcon somewhat (two retcons make a right?).
I didn't much care for season 5. There were a few good things in there, but the dragon avatar gimmick just felt like an attempt to make a show that's not TMNT, while still keeping the title. As did Fast Forward. And Back to the Sewer was too little, too late.
The first four seasons were when the show was good, with the exception of a few details (Ch'rell, Mikey getting flanderized, the influx of superheroes...), in my opinion.
And my memory is getting a bit fuzzy, but wasn't there a demon/tengu Shredder in season 5 as well?

Because I've forced a lot of the last three seasons out of my memory. I also don't remember a lot of plot details from the third movie (they go back in time and...stuff happens, and there's a guy...and stuff) or The Next Mutation (there's one turtle too many, April's inexplicably gone, and there's some dragon dude who...does...something).
Also, I've rewatched the first four seasons, but I haven't rewatched the last three (because I didn't enjoy them that much the first time around), so that's probably part of it as well. I do remember there was something about a demon Shredder, and I think he was big, but I don't remember how it fit together with the other two (three?) Shredders.

While it's debatable how well the Mystic Turtles worked (I liked it, but can see why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea) I do think the final battle with Yoshi's spirit saving everyone gave a very complete feeling to the series.
But I agree with you about the 3rd film and Next Mutation. I in fact have never even watched Next Mutation enough to know what actually happens in it. :tgrin:

I respectfully disagree. I felt that the last three seasons were a letdown after the first four. The gimmicks (making dragon avatars, hanging out in the open with some Wesley Crusher wannabe in the bright future without even making a brief reference to SAINW, and then all the cyber stuff) took away from what made it TMNT. It got too far away from the core. I'm not saying it went completely bad, there were still some good elements, but I didn't feel like it was TMNT anymore. And Mikey's character development was backwards (how did he go from the warm, funny guy to the village idiot in the span of 7 seasons? Was he sniffing glue between scenes? It seemed to begin after he completely failed to learn his lesson in The Unconvincing Turtle Titan, and then just got progressively worse until he became a complete moron in the last couple of seasons).
Oh, and "It's ninja time!".

The core cast and themes are still there. So when the Turtles travel to alien planets and are out in the open you think that's straying from the core too?
Also you literally stop watching on Season 4's finale which was a cliffhanger? Makes no sense to do that when the story directly continues. I don't know why anyone would do that.

If they had gone to an alien planet for a full season and retitled the show to "Turtles in Space", yeah, I probably would have thought that was a bit much. I'm fine with taking excursions for a few episodes. It's when it takes over the show that I lose interest.

This was on the second viewing. I already knew what would come after, because I had seen it before. And I didn't actively decide to stop watching, I just ended up not continuing. I'm rewatching season 1 again now, and I might end up watching the whole series, but I might stop after 4 again, or possibly after 5.

One thing I will point out SAINW was set in an alternate reality so technically it makes sense it wasn't referenced.

Donatello experienced it. It should have left enough of a psychological impact for him to be reminded of it when he again finds himself in a future. He should have felt some sort of relief that things turned out differently from what he had seen.

Or the original Hun, Greg Carey, could join SAG and reprise the role:P Though I think his voice may have been slightly electronically altered (barely noticeable, but he sounded less bassy in the video game, which leads me to suspect they forgot to do the pitch/formant tweaking there).

Just looked it up. Yep. He sounds like he does in the season one tie-in video game. This confirms my suspicion. Definitely some amount of formant and/or pitch shifting. Which means the same effect could be duplicated with virtually any actor who isn't too squeaky.

I completely agree with this sentiment, but personally think it's something that should have been touched on closer to the SAINW episode. I mean Don goes through this horrible ordeal and other then giving his brothers an extra big hug when he sees them again, nothing else is ever mentioned of it period. I feel this was one of the biggest ball drops of the series.

Oh, I completely agree. It was a missed opportunity to really give Don an emotional arc, but Fast Forward - as much as I think the whole idea of Fast Forward was terrible - was a second chance to finally deal with Don's trauma, and they wasted it by not even hinting at it.

Why do you say that when for the rest of Season 3-4 Don seemed perfectly fine despite seeing his brothers did? FF had some great concepts that were sadly a bit rushed.

I said I agree that Don seeming fine for the rest of seasons 3-4 was a missed opportunity, but Fast Forward was a second chance to deal with that (by implying that he had been repressing the trauma, and then having it all come back when he finds out he's been thrown through time again), and the writers missed it again. Two separate chances to deal with it, and they missed it twice.
