View Full Version : Are the Mousers enough of a threat for a movie?
How would you like to see them incorporated?
Do you think Rat King and Baxter should confront one another?
I think they are the 2 best villains/antagonists after Shredder, and could have an interesting connection with the whole rat/mouser thing. Maybe Baxter's mousers killing rats could turn Rat King from a neutral character to siding with the Turtles and begging for their help.

It would be a strange set-up, with Stockman being the main villain and Rat King being the minor character.
When faced with his rats being slain, though, the Rat King would allow the Turtles to help but would probably try to use Splinter as a bargaining chip by first ratnapping him to lure the Turtles to him.

The concept is awesome, and I think I'd like to see it play out in an animated series or maybe a comic book, but the conflict isn't "big" enough to warrant a full movie.
However, it is high time both of these guys made it to the big screen. But probably in separate movies.

The Rat King and his rats has no chance against Baxter Stockman's mouser robots, unless he hypnotizes Splinter.

This!
Though I will never understand what makes people think he is neutral and not evil. These characters would have been better than made for movie villains wasting chances for them or Krang to appear or Shredder once again.
It would be cool to see the Turtles battle robots in a new movie, but would the Mousers be enough of a visual threat?
There's also the question of how the Turtles can use their ninja skills against robots.
Part of what made the first movie great was that their enemy (the Foot and Shredder) had the same or similar skill set as their own, which gave them a run for their money. And a ninja turtle movie needs a certain amount of ninja action in it.

Baxter Stockman would be enough of a threat for a first movie, first using the Mousers, then himself as an agent against the Turtles. Then, at the end have it become known that The Shredder is really telling him what to do, setting up his entrance for a sequel...

I think the Mousers probably could have been used effectively as one of the sci-fi/technological threats faced by the turtles if they had followed something closer to Peter Laird's vision for Secret of the Ooze.

Hamato Yoshi? Do you mean Oroku Saki? Come on man. He's THE FREAKIN' SHREDDER! You gotta get that right.

Cowabungaparty you do know Saki is the Shredder and not Yoshi. Yoshi was Splinters master and or Splinter depending on the continuity your looking at.
I think Baxter is enough for the first movie. We don't need to see the Shredder as the big bad from the get go. Let him be the secret backer to Baxter. Reveal at the end that Baxter was just a small cog in a much larger machine.
If Baxter isn't enough throw in Old Hob to spice things up.

You do realize that is in the origin too right?
If you go by the Mirage origin Shredder doesn't hate the Turtles, he didn't even know about them. It was Splinters revenge against the murder of his Master that brought them into conflict.
OT and IDW it is because Yoshi left the foot/challenged Shredders leadership.
Either way it's kind of always part of the origin on why Shredder hates them or the Turtles fight him. And it doesn't need to be part of the first film if he isn't the villain.

true but unfortunatly time has moved on and audiences these day's want less confusion we need to reboot the franchise decide on one story and roll with it and yes i am familiar with the various origin stories

Could have fooled me with your posts. Point is you don't have to tell the whole story the first time out. If Saki isn't the main villain you don't need to go into his origin in the first movie. Sometimes it is better to hold off showing the motivation, or even touching the motivation.
One of the best modern versions of a character is The Joker done by Ledger. No origin given, no back ground. Great character and great film.

Great point. That and mystery can keep a story interesting. Maybe slowly reveal who the shadowy figure is, and why he hates the Turtles and Splinter. (It always seems to be SPLINTER'S beef with Saki that causes the problem. :P)

They could always go back to the April as a scientist idea if the mousers/Baxter idea is used for the first movie, since Baxter traditionally revenged against April as soon as she discovered he uses his mousers for theft. But a good back story for Baxter could involve either working at another scientific company where his boss distrusts him and forces him to get angry to form Stocktronics, and that boss could end up being affiliated with the Purple Dragons or some other organization that could ultimately seek to destroy the Turtles. To keep it simple, Baxter would go after the Turtles as soon as he finds out that April is friends with them. However, Baxter could ultimately create a giant mouser or two (see the first TMNT game for NES), set up a master control that allows Baxter to track his mousers from his lab, and the Purple Dragons could also be important to the first movie so it can lead up to a Shredder cliffhanger at the end after Baxter calls for help.

For the entire movie? Nah.
What I'm trying to ask here, is in a movie with Mousers and robots as the main antagonists, is that enough? Should there also be some ninjas and punk thugs thrown in for good measure? Would battles against robots be enough to satisfy an entire feature film?
Jester

No. You'd need a final "boss battle" with Baxter himself. Either controlling a giant mouser or piloting some Mech armor.

Maybe that spacecraft he uses in the second original video game.
They could be in a movie, for sure. Certainly not in their original form, though.
What if he also unleashes the robotic contraptions seen in the videogames and comics?
For example:
- The flying "bug" machines seen in the Original Series, episode 3 "A Thing About Rats" and the Arcade game: http://www.gamefaqs.com/arcade/575651-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles/images/screen-41
- The war-of-the-worlds tripod things in issue #6 in TGRI and in the Technodrome stage in TMNT:4 for SNES. They are half-domes with an eye-laser that pops out on top. Picture in the bottom left: http://spriters-resource.com/snes/tmnt4/sheet/35061
Or are those too "alien"?
The mousers could be very scary, especially if they chewed through a red coat or two, and if they have a glimmer of intelligence in sniffing out rats (or turtles).

The mousers could be developed and released because of some havoc the Rat King is already causing.
The mousers innocently taking Splinter could be what initially brings the turtles to the surface. Never having earned Splinter's blessing to go above ground, they'd find themselves with no teacher and no leader.
Leo-Raph power struggle ensues.
Come together, fight as brothers, blah blah, find Splinter.
Stockman works for the company that created the ooze, so the turtles discover their origin (or just part of it, depending on whether you go the Utrom route)
Splinter's history could be talked about, and Shredder comes to America after the turtles earn a little publicity for themselves, ala Nickelodeon.
Eh?
I think the Mousers, Metalhead and Baxter Stockman would make a good movie.

I think the idea of the TMNT never having been above ground until 15 is a little bit silly. There is always places to hide in New York City, especially when it's dark outside in the evening.

This sounds a little like the way Secret of the Ooze was supposed to be like... Based on Laird's notes. Kind of a cool idea though. Regarding the question are the mousers much of a threat. I often think of them somewhat like zombies minus the horror aspect. They're lame in singles... but can be deadly in hoards. I say a hoard of mousers would be a huge threat to the Turtles.

Absolutely, I think (with Baxter in tow).
1) They're one of the more iconic opponents for the TMNT. It's not Shredder right out of the gate, but enough people can look at a Mouser and think, "Oh, TMNT," to make it work.
2) Given the right conditions, the Mousers are scary ****s. We've seen them raze buildings and, lest we forget, Baxter sends them after April in their origin issue with the full expectation that they will eat her or tear her to shreds. Yikes.

I imagine the mousers could work, but you'd need a decent story leading up to the final battle with them. I could see the mousers being a chitauri kind of villain in a TMNT movie, just some mindless minions but A LOT of them for the turtles to battle.

The Mousers are essentially "metal zombies"...
Manageable in small doses, but in hordes - terrifying and deadly.
Proper CGI work could do wonders with sewer-lurking Mousers in a live-action setting.

The bad thing about Mousers is that they're not really allowed to do anything.... We NEVER see them eat anything except a random rat for their first test run. We need to see a couple or random bystanders actually get torn to shreds by these things (at least off screen with some screams or something). If not, then they're as usually as Leo pulling out his swords... and then starting to kick everything.

All I can say is I wish it was Baxter and the Mousers as the threat in the 2007 TMNT movie instead of the stone generals.
Baxter could be the big bad of a movie with the Mousers as his legion of robots but he's gotta have some bigger guns than that as well.

that's what i said. a crazy horde of mousers would be so much of a threat... not only to the Turtles. but to everyone else. these mousers are bound to run into people too. and a sea of mousers sounds terrifying and all... but the turtles running and slashing into this ocean of mousers is definitely something i'd love to watch.

I don't think Baxter and the Mousers alone are enough to support a movie. If anything get some Purple Dragons into the mix. It's be cool to see on the big screen but not as the biggest threat in the film. I don't mind Baxter being a main villain, just as long as more than Mousers are used.

I don't think the Mousers would be enough. Might get a little boring to see the turtles swat a tiny robatic creatures and nothing. Not to take a way from the mousers, I'd love to see them in the movie. But with Rat King generic thugs and Baxter in some kind of large Robot contraption, I think that it could be enough along with the Mousers.
I would love to see a TMNT movie with Rat King and Baxter.

This idea I like. New York could be victim of an increasing rat problem lead by the Rat King, so Baxter and his company "offers" their help by building the mousers. However, Baxter is actually planning on robbing NY's largets banks using the mousers. April, his assistant, eventually discovers his plot and he sends a few mousers after her. April flees into the sewers and meets up with the turtles, who tell her their story of origin etc. Together they work to take down Baxter. They seek out where the mousers were last seen, which was at Rat King's territory. The Rat King spots the turtles and follows them to their lair, where he finds out about Splinter. He later kidnaps Splinter when the turtles go after Baxter, which the turtles later discover and are forced to seek out the Rat King with Baxter's help (or something like that). They find Rat King and a fight starts. It ends with Leo beating Rat King by knocking him into the pit where he dies in the comics (thus leading to a ghost cameo in the threequal!). Baxter's plan ultimately fails, and he is forced to report to his master, the Shredder, who decides to go to New York and seek out the turtles...
That way we get Shredder in the sequel, where he is knocked into the garbage truck and killed, thus leading to his Elite Guards seeking vengeance on the turtles in the threequel.
