I almost quite literally hate him(warning wall of text)

Long time lurker first time poster here,first I would like to say that I mean no offense to any of his many fans on here and that you are all of course free to agree or disagree with what I say,but having recently gotten the chance to catch up on the new series(which is great in so many ways) yet again I find myself strongly disliking Raphael now I have never been overly fond of his character having watched most of the 2k3 series and read some of the comics his whole"rebel bad boy Mr attitude" schtick is something I never understood the appeal of but accepted has part of he's so wildly popular .In the 2k3 series he had a temper he whacked Mikey on the head on numerous occasions I never liked it then but in this newest incarnation he seems to have taken that mean spiritedness and snarkiness against his brothers up to eleven,I recall in the gauntlet episode him slapping poor Mikey after he trips while trying to get away from the kraang and now not even leo or donnie are safe from his "whacks" it seems,and according to some official sources he is now the strongest of the four turtles which just doesn't sit well with me him having such a obvious advantage over the others.I know their trained ninja I know their rambunctious teenage boys I know fighting is apart of their daily lives (heck I love the fight scenes in this series the choreography is amazing)and I know raph is has good or bad has the writers want to make him but does he really have to be such a ahole all the time I've known Raphael's(not physically abusive but verbally) in real life they are not fun people to be around their nasty attitude is not "cool" and it can be exhausting to be on guard against them 24 7.I'm not calling raph a complete monster and I know his so called bad boy persona is why so many people find him so appealing and more power to them for that I just wish the writers of this show would dial his attitude back a notch and let him learn once and for all that its NOT okay to beat up on your brothers for even the smallest infractions

I too have never like Raph as much as the other turtles, his personality just doesn't really appeal to me as an interesting character. I wouldn't say I hate him, but he's probably my least favorite of the four turtles.

I agree on that, I really hate this Raph he's twice as abusive as the 2003 and 80's Raph. If he is not hitting someone he is making fun of him or insulting. I now he adds some spice to the team but I never liked people who verbally or physically abuse of others.

I think it's not that he 'loses his temper'. It's that he's always insulting, threatening or smacking one of his brothers almost every time he's on screen.
"Another option is me slapping you". and so forth. The one where Raph tells Don he's crowding him, and Don quickly backs off as if he's worried he's gonna get smacked again are two examples.
He's basically the bully of the team, though Leo does seem to enjoy putting him in line once in a while.

I dig this version of Raph. I feel like they are capturing the teenage aspect of Raph and the other turtles perfectly. I mean he's 15 years old. I don't know whether that user was serious or not, but there are some obsessive female fans who have crushes on the Turtles that go too far. They're not really on this forum though, you'll find them on places like deviantart.

This Raph is thoroughly toned down from most incarnations, with the only exception being the OT version. But seriously, as far as his being a hothead goes? If I lived in a sewer, cut off from the world and was labeled a freak by those I attempt to protect, I can't imagine I'd be Mr. Sunshine either.

Well i guess they should show Raph from a different view more often. his love for his pet turtle shows that he has a calm site too. But they didn't showed it much for now.. maybe it will come in future episodes.

I like the Raphael from the 87' cartoon at most. I think should have made this raphael more extreme like an...hmm... Lot of you will laugh but can you imagine Raphael with the kind of Dr. House? A sarcastic, ironic asshole who talks all the time with the audience? That would be perfect, hehe.

I think Raph's comments are funny sometimes and are meant to make their interactions a little more interesting or humorous. He seems to love his little pet turtle and was supportive of Mike when he was upset. I would like to see how his character develops on this series.

Anyways, I disagree with the whole "his bros do nothing while he rules over them". Leo shoves back, true. But Don actually picks fights with Raph the most and mocks his intelligence (Leo is actually the one being the peacemaker). Mikey WANTS to aggravate him because he's a troll and doesn't mind Raph picking on him.

People are making too much of a deal of this I think. I have no problems with this new Raph, I don't think he's that offensive. He's not being portrayed as a deeply dark character, he's still very much an up and beat person who uses comedy as a defense mechanism. The reason why he shows off the way he does is because he's a frustrated teenager. He and his brothers are considered freaks of nature, they live in the sewers hiding from the above world whose habitants they are supposed to protect, but when they do people get scared. Add to that he's always in Leo's shadow, the second best, something he's finding hard to accept. He struggles with himself and his origins, and that's an aspect I've always found interesting with Raph in all his incarnations. He shows off because it's his way to stand up for himself, being sarcastic and a bit threatening. We can all see he has a soft side as well when he pets Spike. He fills his part of the group just like the others do, it adds to the dynamic and I've got not problems with it.

I love this incarnation of Raph. Yeah, he picks on his brothers, but that's what siblings do. He has shown softer moments in the series as well such as when he comforts Mikey after the Chris Bradford fiasco and when he's with Spike. So, he's not a total a**hole.

I'm glad you can count. I am merely agreeing with the fact this version of Raph can be a little obnoxious, but which one isn't? My personal opinion is that Raphael's character is best when he can show some affability towards his brothers outside of a life/death situation. Again, it need not be overly saccharine or often, but those are the moments make the rough edges more sharp.

2012 Raph is my favorite version by a long shot. I don't find him offensive in any way. He's blunt, sarcastic, and snarky. Nothing wrong with that. As for hitting his brothers; Mikey is annoying enough at times to warrant it, Don to a lesser extent.

I never was much of a fan of Raphael, but I love him in the Nick series and he's actually humorous for once. Points for no Brooklyn accent as well.

He's an Alpha male type, people are like that and its definitely common amongst teenagers. I'm sure that'll change with him with age (random thought, I wonder if they'll update the character models down the line so they start to look older). And he definitely has his sweeter or more caring moments as well as his dumb and off moments like the others. It's just all kept in line with his personality.

I feel like this Raph is the young version of the 2K3 series. He's hot tempered and sarcastic and tends to "WAP" Mikey across the head. Mikey is usually my fav. turtle with Raph being my 2nd favorite but seeing how they really dumbed down Mikey from his 2K3 and OT predecessors :tsad: :trolleye:, Raph is my favorite turtle for the Nick series. :tgrin:

True but then again they don't have to do exactly what other shows do. They have the freedom to change things up. Hell look at Young Justice. Thats a cartoon that aged their characters.
