I almost quite literally hate him(warning wall of text)

Long time lurker first time poster here,first I would like to say that I mean no offense to any of his many fans on here and that you are all of course free to agree or disagree with what I say,but having recently gotten the chance to catch up on the new series(which is great in so many ways) yet again I find myself strongly disliking Raphael now I have never been overly fond of his character having watched most of the 2k3 series and read some of the comics his whole"rebel bad boy Mr attitude" schtick is something I never understood the appeal of but accepted has part of he's so wildly popular .In the 2k3 series he had a temper he whacked Mikey on the head on numerous occasions I never liked it then but in this newest incarnation he seems to have taken that mean spiritedness and snarkiness against his brothers up to eleven,I recall in the gauntlet episode him slapping poor Mikey after he trips while trying to get away from the kraang and now not even leo or donnie are safe from his "whacks" it seems,and according to some official sources he is now the strongest of the four turtles which just doesn't sit well with me him having such a obvious advantage over the others.I know their trained ninja I know their rambunctious teenage boys I know fighting is apart of their daily lives (heck I love the fight scenes in this series the choreography is amazing)and I know raph is has good or bad has the writers want to make him but does he really have to be such a ahole all the time I've known Raphael's(not physically abusive but verbally) in real life they are not fun people to be around their nasty attitude is not "cool" and it can be exhausting to be on guard against them 24 7.I'm not calling raph a complete monster and I know his so called bad boy persona is why so many people find him so appealing and more power to them for that I just wish the writers of this show would dial his attitude back a notch and let him learn once and for all that its NOT okay to beat up on your brothers for even the smallest infractions

Raph is a jerk. It's the stereotype attributed to the character, just as Mikey is the idiot, Don is smart, and Leo is disciplined.

I'll go with Mikey being the comic relief, not the idiot. I seriously don't get why some people think he's the dumb one. Well, I get it. But obviously, that's not the right title to give him. It just makes him sound useless.

I think, with the exception of the smacks and whacks, Raph's attitude has been toned down. He hasn't run off on his own and started taking his anger out on street thugs, yet...

I agree with allie300. I'll never understand the appeal of Raphael's hot-headed nature. It's one thing to occasionally blow up, but they've got him doing it like 3-5 times every episode, and over the most trivial crap! Atleast 4Kids Raph only got pissed during extreme circumstances.

I too have never like Raph as much as the other turtles, his personality just doesn't really appeal to me as an interesting character. I wouldn't say I hate him, but he's probably my least favorite of the four turtles.

Thanks for all the responses,perhaps hate was too strong a word I don't hate raph without him the team wouldn't be the same(and he's not real)I just feel that the writers have made him so much more malicious?with his verbal attacks and so much more willing to hit his brothers out of training situations eh I don't know maybe its just me

I agree on that, I really hate this Raph he's twice as abusive as the 2003 and 80's Raph. If he is not hitting someone he is making fun of him or insulting. I now he adds some spice to the team but I never liked people who verbally or physically abuse of others.

I think it's not that he 'loses his temper'. It's that he's always insulting, threatening or smacking one of his brothers almost every time he's on screen.
"Another option is me slapping you". and so forth. The one where Raph tells Don he's crowding him, and Don quickly backs off as if he's worried he's gonna get smacked again are two examples.
He's basically the bully of the team, though Leo does seem to enjoy putting him in line once in a while.

I think its not so much of a 'Raph has always been like this' it's more like 'Raph is doing this ALL THE TIME'.
80's Raph wasn't dissing everyone all the time
2K3 Raph wasn't pissed all the time
Nick2012 Raph does seem to be insulting, smacking and bullying his bros all the time. Every third line is an insult. I do like seeing Leo fight back sometimes. Just wish Mike and Don would too.
