View Full Version : What should the new movie be rated?

What do you think the new movie should be rated?
I think it should be PG-13. It would be the first PG-13 Turtles movie. I don't want this movie to be a cheesy kids movie. I felt the 2007 flick tried to take itself too seriously, but ended up being a simple kids movie. This new movie should be more mature, but fun at the same time.

Pg-13. I mean, turtles target audience is kids, so it can't be R.
So it's definitely Pg-13.

PG-13, if nothing else, so the fight choreography can be more realistic/brutal. I'd love to see an R rated Mirage inspired move, but that ain't gonna happen.

It'll be PG-13 without a doubt, Given all the action scenes which I heard will be kind of like The Raid Redemption.

That's not saying anything, considering all of his production companies' films have been rated R.

I vote PG-13, like one member said most of Bay's movies have been PG-13.

Uuuuuuuuugh. The movies he's DIRECTED have been PG-13. Platinum Dunes' movies have all been R.
Not to say that TMNT will be, but there's no precedent of PG-13 movies.

I stand corrected. Most of the movies he directed were PG-13. Took a look at his list of movies that he produced and wasn't aware of the majority of them. Thanks for pointing that out.

It needs to be PG-13. That's the sweet spot for action movies. 20 years ago, it might have been an issue for kids to see PG-13 movies, but these days, all the superhero movies are PG-13, and parents bring their six-year-olds to every single one of them. I'd be shocked if it were PG. I can't think of the last PG action movie.
I figure PG could only happen if it were some Nickelodeon mandate. But I don't think they're dumb.
Plus, adults and teenagers wouldn't take an action movie seriously if it were PG. That rating is reserved for Disney/Pixar films.

The movie has to be PG-13 if it shows any kind of mutation caused by the mutagen.

what's your problem with nick anyway ? just cause their kiddy doesn't mean it's a bad thing in the new show it has some dark moments than alot of cartoons that nick air now, also they don't seem to be involve with leibsman tmnt movie in anyway so be thankful they brought back tmnt in 2012 cause no company and i mean no company can advertise toy's and cartoons like nickelodeon...also i obviously think the movie will have a pg-13 rating.

I'll just have a problem if Nick does take the kiddy route with the movie. The show is an entirely different thing (and I kind of like the show). but this is a new chance to go an ACTUAL darker route. I didnt like how the 2007 flick tried to be dark and wasnt (only the Leo & raph bit) It hasnt been done in the mainstream turtle stuff, just in the comics. So im HOPING nick doesnt have influence on the movie, other than their name in the credits. And yeah, Nick can expand the turtles franchise well.

The Bay production's history toward a PG-13 rating gives one hope... however that all 4 previous TMNT movies have been PG and Munroe even indicated directly that their deal with Playmates was such that it was contractually obligated to be PG... doesn't instill me with a great deal of confidence. But as I've said before, I would be willing to forgive a lot of crap in the movie if it somehow manages to deliver truly memorable "ninja action" as we have never been allowed to see in a Turtle movie before. That said, the apparent complete lack of any kind of martial arts weapons of the Foot Soldiers still makes me scratch my head in terms of what sort of fighting we're actually going to even be able to see... just a series of grappling moves, blocks, weapon removals and "quick takedowns"? Boring.

As of the last movie they did. If Platinum Dunes/Paramount has somehow managed to either be "above the law" on that with Playmates on Turtles Part Five or just doesn't care and is soldiering on without a toy deal (unlikely, and pretty much impossible), that's unrevealed as of yet.

Even if it is Pg-13, there's still going to be a toyline. Although Playmates might have to bend their contract a bit.

Possibly. But historically Playmates has held all of the cards over the studio/director/producer(s), not the other way around. And at least as far as the last movie goes, they were not willing to bend one millimeter.

Hopefully the turtles look realistic. And I mean really realistic. Like ILM or Weta CG. The 2007 movie art style was over-hyped. The turtles looked decent but still bad, and the human characters were just terrible. Really goofy looking. It was like watching the incredibles. I hope all these turtles look badass.

I like the TRON duology but I don't think those are movies that would benefit from a higher-than-PG rating. Movies about teenagers (read: MAIN CHARACTERS THAT ARE 13+ YEARS OLD!!!) that are ninjas (assassins, basically) with cutting weapons and shuriken that regularly engage in combat other ninjas trying to kill them... yeah, those should probably be PG-13. Just going out on a limb there.
It's always been a little alarming to me that more people haven't been up in arms about that to that regard for, I don't know, the last four movies.

I don't think TRON: Legacy would have been better at PG-13. But maybe it would've sold more tickets.
But if we can't get a PG-13 TMNT, now, in the heyday of PG-13 superhero movies... The word is that the budget is $120. It's big enough for PG-13, I'd think. And why wouldn't a toy company see it's selling toys for everyone else? I'll just keep my fingers crossed, I guess. :ohwell:

This movie will be PG-13, but for what it's worth, PG-13 is the new PG, which is now the new G.
Could they have made a pg13 tron film?
I actually didn't realize Tron Legacy was PG. I think it got by because the violence of the film doesn't involve blood by pixels shattering to pieces and there isn't really any profanity. Death is death, but the MPAA isn't known for consistency. Films have been known to avoid higher ratings by simply changing the color of blood (the klingons in Star Trek VI), but back in the day, before PG-13, the PG rating wasn't so infantile and spineless, and actually got away with stuff you might not even see in a PG-13 today (like Quint squirting blood out of his mouth in Jaws, the melting heads of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the face rip of Poltergeist; ironically, PG-13 was formed because of this kind of violence, which at the time wasn't gory enough for R but too heavy for PG)

I feel the same way man. I don't know how long it will take until I start snoozing in the theater because the turtles keep dodging about a thousand Foot soldier bullets per second every fight scene. It's hard to see the stealthy ninja/assassin feel in them because of this militaristic "covert-ops" attire.

It will be good to finally have a PG13/12A rated TMNT film. It’s been a long time coming. Going by the director’s track record I don’t think we have to worry about anything lower.

that may have been the case when pete owned the turtles and playmates was an initial investor into the tmnt line when many others balked at "ninja turtles". all that's in the past. viacom is the new owner and playmates was chosen from a host of various toy companies that were interested. i doubt playmates holds as much clout now as they may have in the past. transformers was pg-13 and their toyline which is geared to the same age group, was very successful. i think it will be pg-13 and it wont be an issue.

It will probably be PG-13 but how cool would it be to have a R rated movie? I mean Leo has katanas for Christsake! It would be a bit more realistic if he chopped some bad guy with them. Sometimes it is nice to embrace the source material. TMNT is dark and violent so I think the medium of film or television should reflect that. Producers need to stop catering to children. Besides, the children from the golden era of the Turtles are almost well into their 30s. :tgrin:

*Whoa...shell shock..* Hate to sound like a dork but I don't really know how they do it, but I think it's cool how you can just merge threads to save space on being repetitive unnecessarily....thanks whoever did that.
But yeah on the inside, I really want an R rated TMNT movie. Not so they can just go over the top with violence, but at least have the cushion to add a little more *ouch* to a few moves here and there...and more "human" if you will, reactions to whatever drama may unfold. I know that would totally leave the kids out who I feel would be most important (ethically and from a financial standpoint) as far as an audience goes as it's always been.
Movies like Ong-Bak and The Protector come to mind when I envision a good turtle movie (action/violence-wise). First of all, it was great just from watching the Muay Thai technique being shown in action like that. So, since the turtles are ninja, and practice ninjutsu, I would like to see that technique really shown in action. That along with the way the fx were like when Tony Jaa did some of his joint locks to really make you cringe.
