View Full Version : Mutated Miwa/Karai
Retro-Specs

I know there's a thread on the whole Miya/Karai thing; I think by now we are all convinced that they are one and the same.
My question is, what are they going to do with this? How will they reveal it to Splinter, and how will everyone react? Will they have Miwa move into the lair with her real father? (Not that it won't be crowded enough with April, Timothy/MM, and now Slash too)
I was debating with my wife about it, and we were thinking: would it be better if Miwa mutates, right around the time she discovers the truth? Add a significant physical change to go along with the psychological and emotional one? In a sense, it might make it easier for her to merge into a life of having a giant rat for a father.
So, if she IS mutated, what animal should it be? We were thinking a small mammal, to match Splinter somewhat. Rodent, or a cat or something, maybe.

No. Not every human in the series needs to be mutated.

My prediction: after finding out that Shredder lied to her and that Splinter is her real father, Karai is angry at both of them and becomes a stand alone villain.
Karai will instead become a cyborg.

Anyways, let's just for now, say that she won't be mutated and stick with the fact that Karai and Miwa are the same person.

Actually, that wouldn't be a bad idea. I get the feeling that Karai has been going easy on her opponents so far - not wanted to hurt April, just get answers, and being more about taunting Leo than killing him.
If she was a stand-alone villain, she'd probably get really vicious, and be a strong threat to the turtles on her own.

For feeling like he didn't try to find her after the house burned down even though he thought she was dead like Tang-Shen or how she feels like he replaced her with the Turtles.
Those two things could come to mind.

Mutating her would be an awesome and ballsy thing to do. It would be a complete and dramatic change to the character never been done before. If anyone could pull it off, Nick could.

I highly doubt she will become a full fledged ally of the turtles. There would just be way too many "good guys". I have a feeling she will become a standalone villain like mentioned above, maybe taking over the purple dragons.
Although I have gotten the feeling that she will be mutated eventually. Maybe after learning that splinter is her father, she will be thrown into a situation where splinter/ the turtles are fighting the kraang and she is exposed to mutagen in the process. A transformation like that could possibly make her resent splinter/turtles and make her go back to what she knows, the Shredder.

Actually.... that would probably be the only way they could pull off a character like that the RIGHT way.
Karai as a mutant turtle wouldn't just start to live with them and become Turtle number 5. She'd be horrified at what she's become and run off, appearing every now and then, possibly helping either side. Or possibly plotting against both. That kind of Venus would work, especially having such strong ties towards Splinter and Shredder, and not just 'hey look at me, I'm a female Turtle'.
The Rat King is still basically Dr. Falco, just more insane. Mutagen Man will most likely retain his characteristics as Pulverizer, and Bradford and Xever continued being who they were before they were mutated. Venus would have more character since she's continuing her personality as Karai.

I know, that's why I pointed it out. We've already seen Nick doing something similar with Slash, so it wouldn't be that odd of they did the same thing here. They even can say that she turned into that because he touched one the turtles in some way. I really hope they don't do it though.

I know it is a relatively bad idea; I was just wondering what people think should if Nick were to mutate her.
For one, she'd be the first female mutant for this series. We haven't seen this done yet in the Nick show.
I doubt she'd become a character from a previous series, like how some have suggested Venus, or Mona Lisa (I was more thinking of a mammal mutation, such as Alopex or Ninjara. But I know next to nothing of those characters, not being a comic reader).
I really think they couldn't make her an old character revived - that would effectively give her three names. Since to us, the audience, "Miwa" is, effectively, Splinter's infant daughter. "Karai" is Shredder's (adopted?) teenage daughter. From this, Nickelodeon could easily make "Miwa" the name of the "mutated Karai", in the same way that all the other mutants gained new names upon their mutations.
Also, mutation aside, I can see how Karai may never actually side with Splinter and the turtles, even after learning the truth. Becoming a stand-alone villain with anger toward both sides makes sense. Suddenly realizing her life has all been a lie all this time may be too much to make some solid commitment to either side.
That being set, such a life-altering event - like mutating - may be what the writers need in order to have her cling to her "new" family with Splinter and the Turtles, if that's the direction they want to go.

could also say that she feels resentment because now the Turtles are his sons..and in a way see's them as her replacement
maybe if mutated she feels that is the only way she gets her fathers full attention back

Hmmm . . . interesting point to go with a grand physical change to mirror an . . . epiphany? of sorts.
I kind of like Karai as a human, and while a female mutant sounds mighty interesting, I kind of like the idea of Karai as this shady character that uses some deception and can run things without much of an enhancement. I'd rather another female character come in, and besides, I don't think I fancy the idea of being a little mutation-crazy. There's little "specialness" if you will to mutation if everyone does it.

You know I wouldn't mind seeing her mutate as the cliff hanger to season 2. Leave it where you aren't sure she dies or gets mutated. Have Splinter find out right before it happens that she is his daughter. It would be great to leave on such a note and then season 3 could be the Turtles trying to get her to accept the fact she is a mutant.

I say shell no!
Karai mutating would mess up the character's proud reputation as one of the biggest badasses in the series; a human woman who can fight enemies of superhuman abilities, because she's just that good. Not that staying true to the character's legacy has been a huge priority for them, but this show, at least, doesn't screw her over as badly as 4Kids and the fourth movie did.

Heh... you know, it'd be funny if the series messed with the audience. Mutate Karai or April at the beginning of an episode, but have the Kraang introduce an anti-mutagen (Like Krang and Shredder made in the original series), and have Karai (Or April or whoever) hit by it first and get changed back to normal, indicating to the turtles that they cannot get hit by this stuff.
The mutation back could even be in the next episode, to leave the fans thinking this is a permanent decision. Nah, I suppose this is all too mean - but funny.

Well, in the sense that they can fight roughly like humans, but with some things humans don't have. It seems a bit inconsistent whether the turtles are stronger than humans, but they almost certainly can take more abuse.

They mostly take hits and falls which would kill a normal human on impact due to internal bleeding.

Hasn't that more to do with years of training rather than genes? I mean, if you took a regular person, started training them when they were little, and went at it for 15 years, they'd be able to take a lot of abuse as well.

Having Miwa/Karai mutate would seem a bit "over the top" in my opinion. I mean I could understand how the mutation would metaphorically represent and parallel the revelation of her knowing to be Splinter's daughter, but with an overabundance of mutants in the Nick series, and with her already complicated family connections with Splinter and Shredder, a mutation would seem "over the top".
I would prefer the series to focus on her emotionally retaliating and eventually handling the revelation to give her character some depth, rather than her being "pigeon-holed" perceived as Shredder's daughter and Leo's bad girl crush. If she mutated, I think it would take the attention away from her family dilemma since the characters and the audience would be so much more focused on the "shock factor" of her looking different, and it could come across as a superficial attempt to create "more drama".
So if they stick to her being human, and her dealing with this emotionally conflicting revelation, it would make Karai's character more endearing with the audience since they could emotionally relate to the torn family situation rather than being visually distracted by another mutation.

Well, now that I've given it some thought, I'd love to see Karai/Miwa mutated eventually. It'd be really neat to finally see a female mutant, since there hasn't been one yet.
I guess now I'm wondering, if Karai/Miwa were to be mutated what would she be mutated into? And if she gets mutated will it be by accident, her own will, or will it be enforced (possibly by Shredder)?

I don't think Karai should be mutated. With Tim, Baxter, Dr. Falco, Xever, & Bradford, where almost out of human characters.
If she in fact turns out to be Miwa, I don't really want to see her as a ally of the Turtles. I'd rather her turn neutral and break off from Shredder, & form her own clan. (Perhaps take control of the Purple Dragons?)

Why do you want so bad to mutate everyone in that show? let's keep some humans
The best surprise would be that... Karai is not Miwa! :D everyone is so 100% that she is, that would make a good surprise if she's not.
And I think they realize that Next Mutation was a failure and that Venus was a poor character, they would not bring her back I guess...

Not really. There is no precedent for this sort of thing. The turtles are make-shift sons. Or did we decide that they're his actual sons because it was their exposure to him specifically that made them humanoid?

How does mutating into something make them "related" This idea just seems really far fetched. It's not like Dogpound is now brothers with the dog he touched, they don't have a bond. I understand that some don't like an idea of a "relationship" between Karai and Leo but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I think if they go that route then so be it, if not then oh well.
But back on topic of Karai being mutated. I think sense they are bring back other characters and giving them new twist her mutating into Venus would actually be kind of cool. Think about it in the light of she finds out she is Splinters daughter and feels betrayed, then during the battle where the mutagen is falling from the sky a canister breaks over her as she is fighting the turtles. It would be bitter sweet that his real daughter now is like his adopted sons. She could see this as another betrayal and flee causing season 2 to deal with them trying to find her and bring her into the fold.

Exact science has not been disclosed sufficiently to know how exactly it goes, but logically you take DNA of the species you mutate with and end result would have that DNA mixed with your own. Something like child and parents DNA I think. You just can't create that DNA out of air so whoever you mutate from is same as related biologically based on that.
In other words If Karai would be mutated from touching Leonardo then biologically she would be Leo daughter.
P.S. In case I butchered some science I apologize in advance. This is based on my limited knowledge combined with common sense.

No, I think it would be awkward because even though the Turtles are Splinter's adopted sons, Miwa would still be their sister since she's Splinter's daughter. So, that's why it would be awkward for Leo and Karai to have a relationship if she's really Miwa. It's called incest.

Anyway I can't imagine her being mutated, for me it doesn't fit to the character of Karai. Why do you want so badly to see her as a mutant?
The advantage would be that we won't see her ugly human design/face/haircut again.
Maybe she will become a cyborg or zombie instead?

That doesn't matter as it could still be seen as incest. I remember during the Jerry Sandusky trial his adopted son, Matt, came forward and said that Sandusky had sexual relations with him, and it was stated that that would still be seen as incest even though Matt was adopted. So, yeah, there really isn't a difference.
