In my opinion the plot that Karai it's Splinter's daughter it broke her character; if at the ence she found out about it, how she would react? It would mean that she's good? Neutrual? She supposed to be one of the most dangerous and meanest villians of the turtles; there's shouldn't be any chance for her to be good

How does that ruin her character?

Well most incarnations make her neutral not really full blown evil

Karai tends to be most interesting when she's a conflicted, somewhat "neutral" character. If she's a full-blown villain or pure evil she runs the risk of becoming as flat as the Shredder. I'm not crazy about Karai being Miwa either, for a whole slew of other reasons, though I do admit it does amuse me on the whole LeoxKarai front.

The original Karai also had honor and had a truce with the turtles, and kept that truce. So she wasn't exactly 'pure evil' then either.

Are you one of those LeoxKarai shippers?

it keeps her interesting. karai as a character who's more interesting when shes neutral. for example, 2k3, karai was interesting when she was conflicted, but then in season 4 became flat when she had a weak motive to just be evil. (still havent finished season 5 yet)

its also ironic for us, since from now on, karai scenes will have us viewing her as splinters daughter, while she has no clue, and while shredder avoids telling her

It makes her a better character, and it could lead to some interesting development, such as her questioning herself.

the character is still fairly new to me. My first exposure to her was the 2007 film.
I hadn't watched the 4Kids show, really, and I didn't see her in the comics ('cus the comics were hard to find and I didn't know to look for them 'cus the local shops didn't really have TMNT titles).

It's interesting all the different takes on the characters there have been.
Saki/Shredder, Splinter/Yoshi, who the Turtles are, Karai/Miwa.
Almost everytime a new cartoon or comic launches, something changes. Right now in IDW, Splinter and the Turtles are reincarnated from previous lives.

But I do like the dynamic of Karai really being Yoshi's daughter, raised by Shredder to use against her own father. That's just... dark.

in my opinion, that was the most boring karai ive ever seen. since she wasnt the main villain in the movie her character kinda got a "backseat". You dont really get to see her neutral side, of walking the line with the turtles. instead she just rides in a van with casey and april
you should really consider watching 4kids sometime! im not saying it will be incredible, some people like it, some dont, but if nothing else it gives you a different version of each character

I love that Karai is Miwa in the nick show. To me she has always been a quite boring character this time around tho she is more interesting plus it gives the Shredder/Splinter rivalry more of a story.

I agree with this too. I thought it was a great spin on what we already know (or don't really know) about her. Like others here said, she has never really been nailed down as this or that, the character has differed quite a bit through the mediums. To me, the reveal of her as Splinters daughter just...works.

I like that Karai is Miwa as it gives her more of a backstory and more character development as she questions who she really is. 2K3 Karai was interesting until after Shredder was exiled and then she just took his place and did a horrible job of trying to be her father all over again. At least this Karai doesn't totally blindly follow Shredder and now she has even more reasons to really think about where her loyalties lie.

I really think that once Leo finds out about her, he's going to try and persuade her to join them and Splinter so he can have his daughter back.

You kidding me? The Kirai/Miwa reveal was awesome. Predictable, but awesome. Instead having her as just another ninja daughter for Shredder, she's a brainwashed Miwa? Badass. Nothing disappointing about it.

That will be a lot of fun to watch.

I kinda like the whole Miwa/Karai bit. I'll take her story over a mutant-of-the-week story any day.

Yes, it will, and I'll enjoy watching it if it happens.

Splinter sets up the whole "I lost my daughter, Miwa" backstory in the first episode...
I still think we'll get a reveal for Season 2 finale or something

Agreed. It's a really interesting storyline and should in theory lead to a tension between Splinter and Karai if and when they interact again (this should culminate spectacularly). We obviously all saw it coming but the 'twist' was one of the highlights of the season for me. It really adds depth to Karai/Miwa's character.

I don't mind it, just wish things was set up a little different for Leo / Karai, they could have just set up a rivalry between the two instead. Them flirting with each other after finding out she's his half sister is going to be creepy, while I'm sure the Leo / Karai arc has just begun due to finding out she's his daughter, things will hit the fans when the turtles find out, but yah know, why did they start it out that way? We're they confused what to with her at first?

BubblyShell22
08-23-2013, 07:06 AM
I don't think there will be any flirting between the two anymore. That stopped right after "Enemy of My Enemy." But I do think Leo will try and get her to join them and reunite her with Splinter once he and his brothers find out the truth. Splinter can't keep it from them forever.

Yeah, I think as soon as Splinter tells them about this, they'll try to convince her who her real father is. Though I am curious how they'll go about it. She obviously shrug them off, of course (especially after Enemy of My Enemy since she's probably still holding a grudge) but I think the more interesting questions are:

A) If it's not the Turtles, what will ultimately convince her? A dream sequence? Maybe April if Splinter tells her? Having it be April seems likely since she's someone Karai would at least care to listen to since they do share a couple of similarities such as being loyal to her 'family' and losing a mother.

B) What will she do with her life? I can't see her staying with Shredder or the Foot (unless the whole 'stay in your clan or risk being alone and fend for yourself' philosophy comes in play). But I don't think she'll immediately join Splinter and the Turtles thus changing her status from villain to hero. Personally, I could maybe see her stay with neither side and form some sort of neutral party. Just show no loyalty to either side by hindering or helping them in some way as long as it's to her benefit.

I'm just hoping this whole thing leads to more development of the Karai character. I'm hoping she stays all up in arms that Shredder is her father and stays in denial about Splinter, at least for a while. This should hold at least through the entire season. I don't really look forward to a "good" Karai.

same, karai to me is a character who should be evil. i cant really see her being an ally for the turtles, atleast not right away

my thoughts on how this may play out are:
the turtles will find out she is miwa
leo will attempt to get her to leave shredder
she will deny it but begin to wonder
eventually accepts it and turn on shredder, probably towards the end of the series, maybe even finale

So....under rare circumstances if a human touches an animal and if that same animal touches that human in return then they would not change into mutant clone twins of each other? Well that kinda ruined my fan fic idea. :(

Would they at least fall in the category as being with in the same species of mutant?

If they do what you're suggesting, it would be great. Here's hoping they do. I agree that she doesn't seem like she would fit as an ally but who knows?

The way I see it, she's like Catwoman. She's not all evil but she's not entirely good either. She's flexible and can change her stance from evil/good whenever she pleases.

So if she even finds out Splinter is her true father, chances are she still won't stick around, a wild spirit like her.
