Will Arnett has said that filming fight scenes in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie left him "exhausted and bruised".

The actor stars as April's rival cameraman Vernon Fenwick in Jonathan Liebesman's upcoming movie.

Will Arnett filming 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'

Asked about whether he was a fan of the show growing up, Arnett told Digital Spy and other reporters: "It's funny, it's one of those things... it fell between the cracks for me, a little bit, because I was just a little old.

"But I have a much younger brother and he was a fan, so I was kind of exposed to it when I was a teenager.

"I knew who they all were and what happened was, almost simultaneous to me being in discussions to become part of the picture, my own sons became massive, like seemingly overnight, massive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans. It was so strange."

He added: "I started meeting with these guys and then... I actually watched the cartoon, the animated show on Nickelodeon with my sons, and I was like, 'This is a great story and there's something here', and so I got involved.

"Of course, Michael Bay's producing and it just seemed like such a great thing to be a part of, and so I signed on very excited, and I had a fantastic experience."

Arnett continued: "We went to New York, we were shooting that, and what was great was, I'd be there shooting all day, shooting a huge fight scene for like a week where we're fighting Shredder and the Foot Clan.

"Then I'd come home exhausted and bruised, and the second I walk in the door, my sons say, 'Dad, we're playing Turtles and you're Shredder!' I was inundated with it - just 24 hours a day Turtles!"

Will Arnett stars in The Millers, which begins this Monday (October 14) on Comedy Central UK at 9.30pm.

What? This is not how Vernon acts!

Vernon is supposed to cower in fear in the first sight of trouble, beg April to save him and then faint. And he's supposed to say, "Please don't hurt me, thank you, thank you, thank you." as he's on his knees begging for his life.

What the hell is the point of including a Vernon who acts nothing like him? They're just destroying one character after another with this film. It's an insult and a slap in the face!

I'm sure he's just battling mere Foot soliders. :) He's helping out the turtles, nice.

I think they took the cowardly character and make him see the light, he becomes an ally like April. Sounds like character development! :D

Well we knew that Vernon is reimagined as an action oriented character in this movie. A role that seems so un-Vernon he may as well be an entirely new character but if there's anything even remotely faithful to the Fred Wolf version then it sounds completely horrible.

Images of Raphael saving his panic stricken brothers from Col. Sachs with the aid of his new wacky sidekicks April, Vernon and Irma.:roll::roll:

Maybe when he said "we" it was more general than inferring his character actually fighting. Vernon could simply be caught in the crossfire? I'd rather he was a shade of the old Vernon personally but I guess we'll see in time what they've actually done with the character.

There's a thing called change...

What's wrong with them making him a stronger character?

The point is to reintroduce a character to a new generation, and have it be something unique. Changing is not destroying, if you love the old Vernon so much, just watch the OT, it's simple as that.

The problem is they decided to make Vernon as much as a main character as April is... instead of being kind of a background character to make a few gags or have stuff happen to him to make us laugh.

Now that he's a main character, well... noone wants to see the main male character running around like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, so they have to turn him awesome. He might awesome from the start, or he might be a wimp that finds his balls near the end. Either way, he's been changed into being a main character.

Wait... what's that? The movie is supposed to be about the Turtles, hence making them main characters. Oh no my friend. Ever since Bay's name was attached to this you knew this movie was going to be all about April and Vernon and how they deal with ninjas(soldiers?) and mutants running around the city.

10-11-2013, 06:18 PM
Well, this doesn't really say that he's all in there brawling it up like the turtles do. If if he's just playing some average joe trying to run out of danger and getting knocked around a few times, that would certainly still leave him "exhausted and bruised". So once again, I think people need to chillax and see how this actually plays out. Besides, even if Vernon DOES get some swings in here or there, just so long as he's fighting like your everyday guy off the street and not some super badass ninja, then I don't see a huge problem.

Why do you still have hope that this movie will be any good? At this point who cares if they make Vernon into Splinter's human form. It's all screwed up the shell anyways, so who really cares at this point. I'm honestly surprised they haven't announced Venus yet, or said Splinter was originally Italian to go with the names, or some other crap. Just give it up.

Bizarro Vernon anyone?

Maybe Will and Abby talk tough and hold there own against a group of foot soldiers who are rookies? I could buy that but this is a different take on a dusted off character.

I think it's terrific how many people on this forum are such experts on what will and won't work in a TMNT movie. It's a good thing y'all are getting paid to write, direct, and produce a movie about it then, eh? Because we all know that "experts" get *paid* for their opinions, and the rest are just internet geeks mouthing off.

Seriously I'm sure this dude is over-stating his role in whatever the scene is. And either way, some people give more of a sh*t than they should about this.

Sounds interesting. I don't think Vernon will be a skilled fighter like the Turtles, but if he's punching random Foot Ninjas, then it makes sense he'd have to defend himself if they're targeting him. I'm not going to complain about this one bit and just wait and see how it plays out.

The main thing is you guys keep thinking he's going to be anything like the Vernon from the show when it's becoming more and more obvious that he's gonna be Vernon in name only.

It's like they decided April wasnt enough of a human presence do she needed a male role to play off that also works at channel 6. Oh wait. Wasn't there some dude that works at channel 6 in the old show? Oh yeah! Do let's name the guy Vernon then to match the cartoon.

"fighting" is such a broad term. Overreacting a bit. Could mean he's using technological means to battle the foot. Could mean he sneaks up on guards and sucker-punches them, gets caught, and gets a lucky out. Could mean he's captured with April and they are being shoved around only to be saved by turtles. It doesn't exactly mean it's a frickin fist fight.

I'm pretty sure Vernon will not be able to win a face to face against a highly trained foot ninja with guns. Probably a sucker punch or something.

He used the term liberally. Quit operationally trying to define it. Some here are creating their own suffering by thinking about this.

You're right - I was imagining a one-on-one fight. I guess it would be possible for Vernon to win if he smashed one in the head with a chair or laptop or something.

Because it's still a physical scene, and people get bruises, scratches, and blisters all the time for so much less. When you're acting, you're doing the same little moment, over and over and over again, shot by shot by shot. Even doing a shot where you're just running and ducking behind a desk could be physically demanding. Get the picture?

I can't predict the future. The movie sure looks like it'll be mediocre to sub-par. But the oddest thing happened. I *used* to want the movie to be good simply because I want all movies about things I like to be good. But now, I don't really care about that. A TMNT movie will never win an Oscar, even if it was brilliant. NOW what I want, is for the movie to simply be better than expected, JUST because of how much that will *piss everyone off*!

I can't believe that rather than want the film to be a genuine success for its own sake, I'm rooting for it to be good just to see a bunch of people try and weasel out of saying they were wrong.

I mean, I won't lie, it probably won't be good. But if it is, MAN is it gonna be fun to watch some of you squirm.

Well, mine did when I saw Dragonball Evolution. At the time I had to go see Fast and furious the next day to at least stop the flow only some what.

The new TMNT movie will not tarnish my liking for the turtles one bit. My childhood is still safe. I ignored the next mutation show, I can do the same with this one if I want. I remember seeing that TV show when it first aired, yuck! I was even looking forward to it. Then I just stopped watching TV at that time slot.

I am sure Vernon is intended to be comic relief and therefore not a fighter. He will hopefully be the slime story/credit stealing reporter April always had to work with. This actor is good enough to at least play that. I just hope that this movie isn't called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and then we are getting some movie that is about April at work that happen upon some ninjitsu fighting turtles in a disgusting sewer.

It's that people act like this f*cking movie is gonna bring about the End Of Days or something. I don't know what would be "better than expected"... better than "Batman and Robin", maybe? Would better than TMNT 3 be "acceptable"? Who can even set the bar? TMNT has by far THE most fractured and dysfunctional fanbase of any mainstream property, and everyone wants different things from it. Some people won't accept anything less than a full-on OT rehash. Others gave up on it the second it was revealed it wasn't going to be reverent towards the Mirage "source material". Still more won't accept any project with Bay or Fox or both attached to it. No matter what, this movie is going to piss off about 40% of the fanbase regardless of how it turns out, and the rest will be judged by how stupid and cheesy it is or isn't.

So frankly, I'm willing to try and accept anything that isn't blatantly insulting to the average viewer's intelligence, as far as the finished product goes. So far, several parts of it seem pretty dumb. BUT a movie can be more than the sum of its parts, and I'm willing to say so if that turns out to be the case. But I know for a fact a lot of people are going to be negative and biased no matter what happens, and I'm generally against that attitude.

Thank god that I ain't those people, I'm fine with any change they make for it to work with today's audience, As someone who grew up watching the shows since the 80s and being a lot older, I don't typically get too attached to things I remember as a child, because its usually just a memory of stuff I used to be into when I was a kid. When I hear about Hollywood adapting things I remember as a kid from the 80, It just makes me more then happy that they are bringing that stuff for today's audience, and giving us fresh new takes on the material that is relevant for today's society. What worked in the 80s, Does not work for today's audience.

Oh, I promise they'll at least have him make a pass at her. Every mainstream movie HAS to have an implied romance subplot. Since they apparently cut Casey's part for Vernon, *someone* has to hit on April, and he's pretty much the only human character left.

Now I'm imagining OT Vernon hitting on Megan Fox.

Yeah as soon as i mentioned it, I realized how much I could actually see it happening, but the thought of Vernon with April turns my stomach :tsick::tdead:

I'll laugh my head off if it turns out this fight he's talking about requires him to do nothing more than to crawl away from the action.

I dunno why people are getting so butthurt over this! I'm kinda looking forward to seeing a reinterpretation of the Channel 6 News crew, especially Vernon. He was always a favorite of mine for some reason.

I don't think anyone is really butthurt over this - there are far bigger issues with this movie to dislike. It's still pretty crappy though that for fans of the OT who thought they were getting a real throwback movie don't get Bebop, Rocksteady and Oroku Saki but do get Vernon Fenwick....who doesn't happen to be like Vernon in any way.

I don't know why you use that dumb catch word, but you did.

Some people just have opinions and voice them.

Some don't like the idea of the human cast from the Channel 6 news.

Will Arnett is on Conan right now. Confirmed that he assists the turtles along with Megan Fox's character.

So long as the TMNTs are awesome, who cares if Vernon is in it.
Not like I'll be seeing the movie just for that character.
Tid bits like this are nice but really it will all come down to watching the movie as we all know. So long as the movie doesn't get cancelled that will be a good start. And with that I hit 100 posts. Cowabunga!

I think he's my favorite of the news crew too, i find his cowardice and self-centered personality a comic relief in the FW series.

I don't mind Vernon having character development, but I must ask; do we even know if Casey is still in this movie at this point?

At this point spongebob could be in it.
We'll know when Michael Bay is good and ready.
