Look on almost any Tmnt 2012 video on YouTube to find these comments. I know I shouldn't get mad over stupid things like this but idiotic comments like these make my blood boil.

These are what many of us call "casuals". People who aren't truly fans but rather have fond memories of the series (albeit often vague ones, as you so commonly see Raphael referred to as Ralph, people mixing up Shredder & Splinter, etc.) and mistake their nostalgia for a true passion. They think any slight deviation from the version they know best is a mortal sin. F 'em, they don't support the franchise, their opinions are of no significance short of frustration.

Meh, it's their choice. I think the reason for those strong comments is all due to expectation level. Probably a lot of these commentators were expecting something similar to the OT which is not realistic (even the guy in that YouTube link you posted admitted to it).

People just have to get used to the fact that things change and pop culture (music, TV, movies, fashion, etc) is obviously no exception to that. Being a big OT fan, I'm glad there are some notable differences Nick has because otherwise it would be like retelling the same story over again.

Though as much as some of us may want to dismiss casual fans, we (and Viacom/Nick) have to acknowledge them since they do compose of around 50-70% of sales. ...Right? :-? I mean, just look at this 2014 TMNT movie, its already incorporating a lot of OT elements based on what we have just heard (i.e. I mean they have Vernon! ...Vernon. :blanksta:).

Do we really need this thread again? You're talking about people who just see random clips online and do not even bother watching the show.

These are people who don't even rewatch the original toon, they just remember it as a passing fad from their childhood.

Some people are just haters. They don't need a reason, they just like to complain. They watch a show and nit-pick every single detail because they want to find reason to hate something.

Some of the excuses for the hate is because of nostagia, because they loved the OT series when they were kids. So naturally when they learn a new version of this series was airing on Nick they didn't want it because they knew it wasn't the show they remembered.

It's kinda like the anime Full Metal Alchemist. The manga has a very well rounded, intriguing story. Then the Anime came out and there were lodes of people who loved the anime, and others who complained that the Anime didn't follow it's original manga.

Then about five or so years later another anime of Full Metal Alchemist that followed the manga more closely came out and people were interested it in it. But when they saw it a lot of the complaints were "We've seen this stuff before." "The original anime was better"

And the same is true here. There are people who don't like Casey Jones because he is there to take April from Donnie and/or make the series into a Twilightesk/Hunger Gamesesk/Soap Opera esk romantic drama.

But in the OT series Casey Jones only appeared a couple of times so he isn't as widely remembered by OT fans. As a result people either don't want him because he's either remembered as a psychopath vigilante that talks like Dirty Harry and has an inane desire to smash stuff with sports equipment. Or they don't want the character because they aren't familiar with him as an actual character in the TMNT franchise.

Ignore the haters. Far as I'm concerned, Nick's TMNT is a solid show. Ratings and sales proves it. I love the old shows too.

This is kinda like the case of Teen Titans Go!, where the purists from Teen Titans hating on the new show.

I never understood all the "MY CHILDHOOD IS RUINED!!!" BS. It's not like the new thing makes the old thing cease to exist. If the new Turtle meant my old Turtles had to be completely destroyed...then maybe I could see this guttural reaction, but if I don't like the Nick series, I can pop in a DVD and watch the FW series...or 4Kids...or heaven forbid Next Mutation.

Same with the new movie. I'm not thrilled by most of the news, but you know what...I have the Barron movie on DVD and I can watch it and cleanse the palette if Bay/Liebsman's TMNT sucks on toast.

Well, you get used to one series and than another different looking version of the turtles comes in. I was so used to the 2003 series and watched the 80's series, the animation looked odd to me at first and you get so used to seeing them in 2D animation. Course, once you give it a chance it really grows on you and as the series continues on the animation and music and plots get better and better, I'm even loving this Leo more and more and can't wait to see him slowly develop into a leader, current episode is showing us that just fine and the Leo / Karai arc is getting more and more interesting by the minute.

Ask for Titans Go, no comments

It's amazing, these people complain the show is "Ruining their childhood" because the character designs look weird to them, or they think the animation is garbage.

... Uh, the 87 series was filled to the brim with goofy character designs, and had it's share of bad animation on top of animation goofs.

People love to complain, whether it's for understandable reasons or some of the stupidest reasons, it's unavoidable.

But hey, they can hate it all they want... not going to stop the third season from coming out, or beyond.

All of the people complaining never watched the damn show, they just bought a 'retro' t-shirt from a mainstream clothes retailer, instagrammed it and somewhere along the line ended up in the groupie box.

Yes; YouTube. Blindly-nostalgic idiots have always existed, but for much of the modern era, they were despised and discouraged. Thanks to YouTube, however, and it's ability to preserve old media off the air for decades, those idiots now have a breeding ground.

The difference is we have something to go on besides "they changed it; now it sucks." Change isn't necessarily for the worse, but it can be to the point that the series has nothing left of what you liked. Most of the general scenario and tropes of the series remain the same in the Nick show. Michael Bay's movie makes alterations to the origin it doesn't need, alterations to the villains and Casey that make it so they aren't themselves anymore, and doesn't do much good with them; even the Fred Wolf show had more excuses for its changes, because of censorship.

Another difference is we've had a chance to watch and analyze the Nick series. We can't do that with a movie not out yet, but what we can do is protest when we don't like what we've heard of it. That seems to have worked in that it got rid of the alien origin bit.

I'm usually one to see this around YouTube, and it's more commonly directed at the 4Kids rendition and the Nick rendition. The comments always say how they ''disliked the dark tone'' or how the ''new show is to kiddie'', how these shows don't live up to the 1987 series name, or some other absurd complaint that really irks me to no ends.

Sometimes, a lot of the videos have a large amount of dislikes, and I should think it stems from these types of people who just can't accept the new, when if there is no new, then, would any series (such as TMNT) live on after it's ''time has passed?''

Couldn't have said it better myself. People hate change and are afraid of it, but what they need to do is try and give this change a chance and see how it plays out. I admit, I had my reservations about this show at first, but I decided to give it a chance to see how it played out, and I'm definitely glad I did because it's awesome.

My advice: Don't judge a cartoon by a preview. Watch the show first to see if you like it and then state your case after that.

Yeah, i noticed that Leo is far down on the cast list for the new movie.

If there's one thing I learned here, it's to wait and see how things come. Just because he's on the bottom of the list doesn't mean he won't have a role. Besides, didn't he have a big role in movies 1 and 4? I must have been missing Powder's drawings, but how could the new look for Leonardo be resistible? I'd assume that Raph is the main focus of the film, but that doesn't mean the others will have a role. Heck, the cast member next to Donatello was next to Leonardo. Maybe they're on the bottom because not for their roles but because of their star status. Those actors are not well known.

Change is difficult and when you grow up with a show it's difficult not to over analyze and over criticize the remake. I swear I spend way too much time over thinking/disappointed with The Legend of Korra. I can barely sit through 15 minutes of Teen Titans Go. Nostalgia is a big thing, yo.

I grow up on the 1980's toon, and all 3 series have there strong points and weak points.

80's toon, no were near close to the comics, and after that amazing first season, turn into a comdey, until the red sky seasons came, Shredder was not the threat that he should have been imo, like Dregg was. But Shredder was still a good villian, loved Bebop and Rockstandy, April I suppose look her best there, but fell into the old Princess Peach story line of getting kidnapped lol.

2000's was a lot more darker, I did not like untom Shredder, but loved Leatherhead, Ratking, and Stockman, loved Karai she rule. I think fast forward was weak, but came back strong in the end with April and Casey getting married.

2012 show, I did not like the deage of April and in turn Casey when he shows up, but at the same time its a mix bag, she does fit in more with them as a teen. But she cant support them in the same vain as 28 year old April did.
I think this version of Shredder is the best version of the 3. He rules and is amazing. Also like Dogpound and Fishface, I am still iffy on teen April, and Mikey seems dumber here, but other than that it rules.

Best turtles from each show.

Don, I like Nick Don the best lol
Mike, 1980's Mike rules.
Leo goes to 2003
And Raph I am going to call a tie from 2003 and Nick. I cant really choose who I like better lol.

All 3 shows have there strenghts and weakness, but over all I enjoy em.

People are scared of things that are new and different.

Except shows of tame or mediocre quality are almost always dismised as "new and different" these days.

Why do you have to dismiss their viewpoints as "fearing change?", they may actually have valid points if you cut through some of their bile. There's no harm in admitting some people think the Nick show is rubbish based off it's actual quality. I don't like it and it has nothing to do with it being different and new, as I gave it a chance and I understand it's direction, it's just to me it's a terrible populist show with poor comedy, poorly realized characters, and cliched ideas I've seen in movies and shows 69949494 times. Be more original please.

I am glad for it's success, as I love the franchise overall and I absolutely want it to thrive as well as the 2014 movie, but I find no enjoyment out of it except for maybe the fanfics that my friends write about it

Ignore the haters. Far as I'm concerned, Nick's TMNT is a solid show. Ratings and sales proves it.

Ratings and sales prove nothing actually. Bayformers and the Star Wars prequels are massive hits but are considered critical clunkers. Ultimate Spider-Man is regarded as the worst Spidey cartoon in recent memory, but it's ratings gold

Everything is subjective to personal taste and viewpoints

Also people need to stop trying to make themselves seem like better fans than the so-called "casuals", a fan is a fan regarldess of their preferences.

I agree with ZariusTwo's opinion here... to a point though. It's not necessarily being scared of anything "new or different", while some nostalgia fans just gripe for the sake of doing so, others do have some legitimate points (i.e. more mutants in these first 30 some episodes than 4Kids or the OT did, Mikey's borderline obnoxious loud/random humor, the Turtles lack of maturity after being in many life-threatening situations, etc) and are just more vehement and far harsher (unfairly though) in their disapproval than we are here. With all of us being more "devoted" Turtle fans, we are more willing to let things slide or develop more patience for the series/show as it develops, but the general public isn't as merciful; especially when it comes to pop cultural tastes.

The only way we could probably make the most accurate assessment of the Nick series is when it finishes, and we look back in hindsight when the Nick's storytelling is completely over when there's nothing left to contribute to the series.

...But I do wonder how some viewers and critics calibrate their ratings/assessments when I see something as "Oh man! Best episode EVA!"/"It was SOOO good!" or something close to it in nearly every episode thread. Or with IGN's bizarre ratings (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=1173977&postcount=64) in making The Mutation Situation and Follow The Leader have nearly the same quality (only a 0.1 rating difference) when the quality of their character developments were completely different to one another.

The only way we could probably make the most accurate assessment of the Nick series is when it finishes, and we look back in hindsight when the Nick's storytelling is completely over when there's nothing left to contribute to the series.

This I agree with. Right now everyone is riding the wave of success the show has and I don't think anyone on the positive end is actually assessing it properly. I sometimes can't beleive these are the same fans who watched and praised the first few years of the 4Kids show (lost season included), which was such an infinitly superior product at the best and worst of times. I think episodes of Fast Forward alone are miles ahead of anything in the Nick show and I don't like FF much either.

The fact that some fans just think every episode is the best ever just bugs me. No show in the history of ever can boast that every week and it is simply not true. Every episode has a pro and a con, even the strongest of offerings, and it's our job as fans of the product to hold true to that and judge the episode rationally, not say it's fantastic just in case we somehow cause the franchise to become unprofitable if we don't. At this stage, TMNT will make money regardless of our critical assesment, some fans and big sites like IGN who are soley interested in maintaning brand consistency seemed to have caught on to this mentality sadly

I hear what you're saying, Zar. I'm not saying that episodes don't have flaws, but most of them are enjoyable to me. I think the weakest one for me in season one is "Metalhead" mainly because it seemed like Don didn't even learn his lesson about his bo being useful. For season two so far it's "Invasion of the Squirrelanoids" mainly for the puking scenes. I just do't like seeing people get sick like that. But other than those two, I have to admit that other episodes were fine to me and I couldn't really find fault with them. That may change down the road though.

I.E. I'm enough of a fan to know situations like this episode occur, but it's more likely to turn off someone who isn't quite as familiar with the franchise.

All the episodes have their flaws or areas where they need improving, and looking back at these episodes five years from now I am probably going to point out more flaws then I had noticed at this time. It's one of the natures of fandom.

Take My Little Pony for example. I grew up with the original TV series back in the 80's. However when I recently re-watched the old 1980's cartoon I couldn't get past the bad animation/ hollow plot points/ and so on. I disagree. The current MLP show is not aging well, but the appeal of it is very different from the old ones...at least most of the time. The big weakness of MLP has always been that it's not very good fantasy adventure; because of its intended audience, it just can't be scary or action-packed enough. Conflicts get resolved too easily. FIM has hardly fixed the issue, but it sidesteps it often by doing comedy instead. It will retain fandom in the same way Dexter's Laboratory does, though I doubt it will remain a pop-culture phenomenon.

At any rate, I really don't understand the notion of new things "ruining your childhood". I think if anything, my childhood was ruined while it was actually happening. It was a hard time, but even the bits that I remember fondly, I don't remember less fondly when something worse comes along. I think what I've seen of Beware the Batman is pretty stupid, but does it make Batman: The Animated Series less enjoyable? No. Disregarding whether opinions of a show's quality are right or wrong, "ruined my childhood" just sounds laughably pretentious.

I'm going to disagree with ZariusTwo and say I do like a fair bit of what I've seen of the Nick show.

I'm going to agree with ZariusTwo, however, that I think the Nick show is overrated as f*ck even at its best. I'm not saying we're all going to look back and hate it in a few years, but there is a LOT of "shock of the new" still lingering with the Nick show.

And finally, I'm going to wonder aloud what happened to ZariusOne, and why we only get the sequel.

Its Street fighter all over again. Next will be Zarius Alpha then Zarius Alpha 2 then Super Zarius Alpha! It Never ends.

And then when ZariusThree finally comes out, nobody will notice or give a sh*t at all.

But then ZariusFour will revive and redeem the franchise.

Leave it to Zarius to rush to the defense of babbling assholes and twist reality into a projection of his own insecurities.

Leave it to the Technodrome's finest of pea-brained sheeple to again troll and pretend they know one inch about me and instead try to disguise such ignorance with a naive attempt at character assasination that fails completly, thus showing their own inability to respect alternative opinion in favor of protecting the brand, thus doing nothing but prove me right

Thanks Bubbly and Baby for standing up to him. You "get" my point, where as it's flown over this clown's head as per usual

I like how you all seem to miss the point that he virtually rejects the idea of there being such a thing as a closed minded casual fan.

And I love how you can't get it into your thick skull that fans are fans regardless and can have any kind of opinion they want about the show and that the last thing they need is abelling from a bunch of elitist brand loyalists who want to live in a comfy little echo chamber puckering up to the staff that come on here.

Enjoy the show if you will, nothing wrong with different tastes, but there are such things as a concerted effort of fans who overdefend things because they're succesful and benefit the franchise, and they are probably MORE closed-minded and irrational than people not under the spell of the show

But then ZariusFour will revive and redeem the franchise.

My posts will probably all be in the wrong continuity order though:lol:

You seem like the one with a superiority complex, mate. You're labeling too, mind you. I give you an A for effort though, I can tell you tried really hard with that post.

Not worth continuing the discussion. You lost this the instant others stood up to you on my behalf, so we can just cool our jets on this.

It will retain fandom in the same way Dexter's Laboratory does, though I doubt it will remain a pop-culture phenomenon.

The "Dexter's Lab" comparison is interesting, considering that show had two seasons of sublime quality and then went off the air for a spell before coming back a shell of it's former self. I take it by that, you're referring to the notion some fans beleive the best seasons of MLP were under Lauren Faust and they're gradually losing their lunch over the decisions made to the show since then?

What's with you & Grizzly taking our exchanges as victories? First he says "I won", now you say "You lost". If you want to drop something, you drop it. You don't challenge the other person or try to lay claim to a first place trophy from a pissing contest... Consider my jets cooled though, homie.

Whatever to those fans, I watched the 80s show as a kid, and I love it still now, same goes ofr the 2k3 show, but I tell you what I sure as hell love the new Nick show as much if not more.

I tell ya what, if I had a dollar for every time someone complained about his/her childhood being ruined because of this or that new incarnation of whatever, I could rival Bill Gates. But yeah, let em gripe. Ain't raining on anyone's parades but their own. Folks like that are just trumpeting their complaints for attention. Reminds me of all the bs involving the SW prequels. If they don't like a movie or TV show, no one's saying they have to watch it. It's not like their being made to do so by force. What a bunch of high maintenance/drama queen tripe. I keep expecting Doug's dad from the old Nick show to appear groaning,"Ooooh, my writers' block!"

I'll be honest; I don't think either show was ever as good overall as their fans say; barring a few excellent episodes, and Lauren Faust is somewhat overrated in my opinion. She's certainly a driven visionary, but a lot of her work is spotty to me. I don't know how much of FIM was her doing and how much to attribute to writers, but I do know that even as of the first season, problems such as Pinkie Pie being a Black Hole Sue, and literal interpretations of its subtitle, Friendship if Magic, being used as an ass-pull to win battles, were already in place. Season 2 actually improved on some of that, though also giving us that horrendous anti-industrialization episode, and its season finale was really cool. Season 3, though; that one really was the point where the show lost my faith. It's probably just a sign of its ineptitude that I can't remember much of it, but a few bad bits stand out; the two-part premiere was ridiculously underwhelming, the bit with Discord just getting a slap on the wrist was ludcrous, and Twilight's transformation into an alicorn was out-of-the-blue and unwarranted. The Equestria Girls movie was just further evidence it was time for this to stop.

I am a firm believer that no one is entitled to an opinion, but entitled to an informed opinion. Anyone that wants to say a show is bad is fine, but they better have something to back up their stance based on what they've learned and/or seen.

People that just shoot their mouth off about things being crap and ruining their childhood based just on perception and not bothering to watch something first hand to find out, those are people and takes that I have no respect for.

I'm for people that actually look up something, actually know about what they're talking about regarding whatever a topic is before they just start shooting their mouth about things they don't know anything about.

Well, someone can just ignore an opinion that they don't like, right?

Also, you have to look at the situation from another person's point of view.

I agree.
However snakeweed101's 'hating on the haters' so to speak does highlight our need to communicate our feelings. Whether we like something or not it's sharing how we feel that seems to be what we all do. I guess that with the net though we get a lot of people liking and hating stuff in the same "space' and so naturally this leads to arguments etc.
We may all love and hate things, however it is respect for our freedom to do so that we must all agree upon and go forth with.
