Say after the current cartoon series a new series with the same animation and feel as TMNT 2003 was made but with a different story line. The story line being that the Turtles are already having adventures and battling Shredder, Baxter Stockman, and Krang.

The first half of the season introduces a new friend to the turtles whose like a detective or some other form of Law Enforcement or at least someone with a military background. This person starts out as a friend to the Turtles until the "final" showdown with Shredder, Baxter Stockman and Krang where they all get sucked into Dimension X seemingly for good.

Everything looks good and everyone is happy until this new friend suffers a personal loss that was indirectly because of the Turtles. Like Shredder kidnapped his family and they got sucked into Dimension X with the rest of the bad guys when the Turtles opened the portal. To make matters worse this friend turned enemy gets exposed to mutagen and becomes like the Dragon Lord (a nickname given to him by the news/media) except instead of a dragon army he uses mutagen to create an army of mutants (that also dwell in the sewers) with Beepbop and Rocksteady as leading generals.

How would you react to such a change in a TMNT cartoon?

Don't they eventually do this in every TMNT incarnation? Shredder was already replaced in every series:

- Original toon replaced him with Lord Dregg

- 4kids series replaced Ch'rell with Bishop and Karai, then Demon Shredder, then Shoko'nbo, than Viral as Cyber Shredder.

- Archie TMNT Adventures wrote Shredder out as the main villain pretty early and he had recurring roles after. Pretty much replaced by Malinga, Null, Armaggon, Verminator-X, etc.

- Mirage killed him off in the very first issue.

- Movies killed him off after the second movie for new villains

The only ones that haven't done this yet are Nick and IDW, and that's only because they're still new.

It depends on the execution.

I agree, depends on the execution. So far we have failed attempts:
- those un-intimidating stone generals
- lame alien Ch'rell in 2k3 (or whatever way you spell his dull name)

Instant flops. If they can do something dark and pose a legitimate threat to the turtles, then good. Something like The Rat King in 2k12 was great execution-wise. Very dark and gritty.

Imagine if they create a villain, someone like Hannibal Lecter (a serial killer and a cannibal).

If they want to confine it in the comics only, then so be it. TMNT shouldn't be kid oriented only, they should ante up the serious factor. I mean Batman was pretty tame in the beginning but it got darker gradually and now the graphic novels are entertaining to read even for serious adults (see: "A Killing Joke" or "Arkham Asylum" books, they're twisted as ****).

This thread turned into fanfiction really quick.

So basicly what i said in the other thread. I want TMNT to fight a deer mutant serial killer in a trenchcoat.
Also IDW is getting more and more kid friendly and i ****ing hate that, when they started it was bloody and violent and now the've changed deigns to look like nick one's and they changed the personalities and Donnie sudenly has crazy devices at the endy of City Fall, i quit reading...

I sketched this in about 5 minutes to see how it would look and yeah, it's crappy...
I had a image in my head of a serial killer deer that i thought it would be creepy, picked it up that somwhere, maybe in a dream, i don't remeber and obviously it wouldn't work...

I'd like a series with Kronos as the main villain. That dude's perfect. He's like clock king, the joker, and the riddler wrapped into one.

Who is he? Is that even the right spelling or is it Chronos?

He is in the Season 9 episode.

I'm probably kind of boring - Shredder/Oroko Saki has always been my favourite villain. But a new villain or a revamped version of an existing villain could definitely bring something interesting to the table as a Shredder replacement - as other posters have said, it'd really depend on the execution, and the context in which they did it.

It'd be ace if we could one day have an animated Turtles movie in the vein of some of the darker DC-Animated films that've come out - it'd be a great way to incorporate a new villain and have a darker and more violent portrayal of the Turtles (as well as having them in their red masks for the duration). It probably won't ever happen, but hope springs eternal!

Regardless Shredder was not in Season 4 at all aside from the dream episode. He was clearly gone after Season 3 until Turtles Forever.

While Season 5 did being him back as the true Shredder, I see Viral as completely different

Well technically Karai did become Shredder. But I do consider her a different character. Same with Demon Shredder. Well of course Viral is completely different. But I don't consider Cyber Shredder to be Viral. He looked like Shredder, sounded like Shredder, had memories of a previous Shredder, and had the word Shredder in his name. So I think he counts as Shredder. Regardless the show did have different main villains. It's just that most of them were other characters taking on the Shredder title.

I always find Bishop to be an interesting villain replacement or maybe an antagonist to the turtles since he represents everything that they fear from being expose to humans and the very reason why they need to hide their existence. They can do a whole season of them being on the run from the government.

Just keep Shredder. Don't get cute trying to find something else.

Why not? There have to be some other villains who could hold a season besides Shredder.

What would happen if Shredder got replaced?

Man, I don't know. That'd be crazy! They'd have to bring in, like, the head businesswoman of the Japanese foot, I guess. Or an alien warlord posing as a benefactor to Earth. Or an intergalactic hive queen. Or a demonic businessman. Or a mutant shark. Or an ancient dragon lord. Or a space myth bent on assimilating Earth. Or, or, or ...

But that'll never happen.

They'll probably do this by the end of season 2 IMO. I mean, it looks that way to me with Karai no longer on his side. If not this season, maybe the 3rd?
