Figured we ought to have one. Please keep it to simple answers. Don't question peoples' answers and don't answer with snarky flame-bait.

In other words, be adults, please.

I picked "Yes... "Other"" because, I am going to see it, but not in theaters, and I'll probably see it before it hit Netflix due to curiosity.

Nope. Lost all interest, and after my experience with Man Of Steel, I refuse to be suckered again.
MOS was painful, even though I had low expectations going in.
Waste of time and money.

I Picked Never, because at the end of the day it just seems like a Ninja Turtles movie In Name Only. I get no sense of any heart, soul, adrenaline, or excitement being put into this movie, but instead just a Generic, Lazy Product that fits right in the vein of lazy, generic, boring products like the Robocop remake & Total Recall remake.

Jester
05-30-2014, 03:17 AM
I'm sure I'll see it some how...be it DVD, Netflix, or something. I may not like a lot of what I've seen but I'm curious to see if it lives up to my low expectations or surprises me by being better then I ever thought.

Yezzir. Really looking forward to the movie. It's getting really hard waiting for May to end. Will be so happy towards the end of June. I'll be my Visual History of TMNT book fron Amazon and Transformers:Age of Extiniction is dropping. Also getting that game too Rise of the Dark Spark for Wii U. So I guess that'll make July not that bad. So pumped for the movie. Been watching the older movies all this week and really love the first two and TMNT. Turtles Forever was pretty cool as well.

Bry
05-30-2014, 05:49 AM
I voted "no" as I have no plans to see it at all at this point. If it does have decent word-of-mouth, I may rent it or wait for Netflix. But I'm not too hopeful about that. So basically, my vote is a "maybe", but I'm going "no" as the most likely option at this point.

It's possible I'll get curious, of course. This isn't a vow. ;)

Waiting to answer.

I'm still on the fence, but there's a good chance I'll see it in theaters, at least so I can do a review of it (though I'm behind on those!).

I really don't see much of interest movie-wise until then. Nothing really grabs me between now and August. Maybe I'll see Transformers, but TMNT and Guardians are the only two I've got my eye on now.

Shred Head
05-30-2014, 06:29 AM
I voted no I got no interest in it I'm going to be like I was with Dragonball Evolution or Legend of Chun-Li and try to avoid it. Of coarse that didn't go over to well consider my friends wanted to completely rip on them when they came on back to back on FX one day (yes those two back to back talk about a **** sandwich I almost didn't survive) So one day I know I will see it but I sure as hell wont pay money or waste time searching and downloading it off a torrent.

There's is so many haters wanting this film to fail why? Cause y'all are whiny bitches who didn't get there way!!! I got faith in this movie!!!

Alpha, is that you?

And no, personally I don't want the movie to fail per se, I'd love to have it reel in big bucks so it can sprinkle it on stuff I do enjoy. But as of now, I have seen little to nothing that have piqued my interest to see the movie. There's a morbid curiosity on "how bad will it be", but beyond that I'm too off put by the creature designs and racebending of Shredder.

We'll see if my concerns are valid when the movie comes out, but I just don't feel any excitement for this movie. But, hey. Good for you, that you have faith in the movie, sadly I do not.

im not 100% sure ill get the chance to see it opening night..it literally may or may not happen..there is a lot going on that weekend in my book

might sound like a lame excuse but the main thing is Boston Comic Con is the same weekend thats my priority number one that weekend and more excited for the spend my money on over this movie ,along with a few other things happening, that very same weekend

also with my current track record and seeing movies on time who knows..i finally just saw Spider Man..and thats a movie i really wanted to see....

with me being iffy on Turtles i will probably catch up on everything i missed before i go see this

also since i most likely wont pay for it i feel wrong saying opening night

Opening weekend. Just like everyone else on this forum.

Would you like to make a Bet on that? Because I'm being 100% honest on my choice. It's one thing to discuss/talk about it on a forum. It's another to actually see it and give them my money on it to support them. And honestly, that kind of reaction just makes me not want to see it even more so just to Prove it and not be a Liar on the subject. And hanging around the forum, and looking at news of the new movie...Not a Single Thing has changed my mind for the better on the film. It just made it sound worse & worse, and some of these Fanatics who already think this film is Perfect and you can't have Any Ill Will Against It or Else You're Evil just drives the point even further down.

And I'm sorry, when there were lots of Fan Films that look & sound much better and at least have some kind of Heart into it (in my opinion) but don't even get a Bat of the Eye from the TMNT fans (Blood Brothers, Fight the Foot, TMNT Banished) and yet this film...Despite Not a Single Thing or Reason to See the Film at All (Action? Fights? Story? Actors? Character personalities? There is Nothing! Even Good Designs? Nope.)...is getting the Benefit of the Doubt when it's giving me nothing to do so....then Yes, I will not see it on Opening Weekend. And I will not see it ever. I'll be fine to stick with the 3 cartoons, the live action films, and the comics. Bet on it!

So feel free TheStryker...why would you think that I would ever see the film. Please, since you seem to know more than me...Please Do Tell.

And if someone asks "Then why do you keep hanging around on the New Movie Forum." Because fans of the new flick told me not to...and I don't like being told what to do, let alone being told not to give my honest opinion on something. I'm stubborn on that kind of thing, and I'm fine with that. And if people look forward to the film, that's fine. I don't.

and all the people who refuse to see it/ are waiting for the DVD to come out, will just be silent, go on to the other sections of the forum, because they won't be able to comment.

Actually, that sounds just about right.

"Yes... Other." I'll see it eventually just because it's TMNT. But honestly, I was most excited two years ago, before we knew anything. The more I've seen, the less interested I've become. Just being honest. If I had a lot of expendable income, I'd see it in theaters, but I can't commit to that at this point. But I'll see it sooner or later just because it's TMNT. I still force myself to sit through Superman III and IV occasionally, just because I'm a huge fan, and there's good things IN them, they're just a big pile of sh*t as a whole. Even though I haven't seen anything so far that makes me really WANT to see this TMNT movie, that doesn't mean I won't see it. I find it hard to believe it'll be nearly as bad as either of those two flicks. They'd have to be trying to fail for that to happen.

Also, not trying to start anything, but: It's more than a little condescending to say "everyone on the forum is just posturing, they're all going to be there opening day/weekend." I'm 99.9% not. Simple reason: Friggin' broke. I've skipped at least 4 movies so far this summer that I wanted to see WAY more than this one, only saw Godzilla once when I really wanted to go at least two more times, and frankly, I might be done for the summer as far as movies. Both my jobs are really slow and a $50 night out just isn't in the budget at the moment. Plus, my wife's the one who drives, and she's hated, HATED every single thing she's seen of this project so far, so I'd have to force her to go see it, and I'd rather not have that argument.

So, while I'm sure you're right, and a LOT of the nay-sayers are going to be there, I'm probably not one of them. Might change, but it's not in my control in any way, so I can't commit.

KirkyMonster

I chose yes, other because I imagine eventually I will have the opportunity to watch this movie for cheap. In the meanwhile I feel pretty on the fence about the movie so far, every time I hear a rumor and hope for the best only to see the rumors confirmed by the trailer but even worse than I had expected.

I just wish this was more of a regular, plain, vanilla Ninja Turtles movie that could be an instant classic and not just what appears to be a money grab special effects borefest. It seems the people making this movie care very little for the TMNT from what the trailers show.

I have recently watched a Josh Pias interview and read some of Steve Barrons original intentions for the first film. I see that the cast and crew involved in that first movie either already liked the and knew the TMNT or learned to respect the characters and source material after being introduced to it.

I am not getting that vibe here nothing looks right so by default everything looks wrong. To me they look too big, and their faces are too human, their costumes are too elaborate, who needs ninjitsu when you seemingly have super strength and can crush humvees. I'm sorry to be blunt but it's true and I think a lot of you know it too that these aren't really the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles maybe Mutant Turtles at best.

I kept hoping that we would find out that Bebop and Rocksteady would be in this movie and that would be the saving grace to me but f that's what the turtles look like I probably won't recognize B+R anyways.

I don't want to see this movie but when it's at bargain prices or falls in my lap curiosity will get the best of me and I will find out what the movie is like.

Sumac
05-30-2014, 01:38 PM
Yes...Other.
I usually don't go in theatres, and this movie doesn't look like it will give me any reason to change this stance.
Since, it's still project with TMNT name attached to it, I will watch it somehow (wink), just to see what Bay has to offer, but I have a good idea, what it will be.

@Donnie19 dude its TMNT there is so doubt this film will be good.:D

No offense, but that would be like me saying, "Superman IV has to be good, it's Superman!" Well, yeah it is, but it's awful. I love Batman; "Batman & Robin" is awful. Robocop 3 is awful. Any movie with The Crow after the first one is awful. Any Hulk Hogan movie besides "Rocky III", "No Holds Barred" and "Suburban Commando" is awful. Stuff based on things I really love can be awful. It's allowed. And I can still like them anyway; I just don't even pretend they're good.

That in no way means TMNT won't be good, because it sure can be - and it'll probably at least be better than the above films. Lots of people are already pretty stoked for it, after all. But saying, "It's TMNT so it has to be good by definition" isn't true at all. If it's good, it'll be good because it's good, because the people making it put the work into it, not *just* because it's TMNT.

Just saying, X does NOT equal Y, my dude. :) I do think some people are over-estimating the downside, but that's true of the upside, as well.

Nope. Because, to be honest, I don't even really understand why people are Stoked for it in the first place other than the fact it's a Ninja Turtles movie.

And I don't mean that to make fun of others or to put them down/insult them. I really don't. I really do mean 'I don't see anything to be stoked about the upcoming film'. Nothing action-wise, nothing character (Turtles personalities) wise, nothing humor wise, nothing fight-scene wise, and nothing story-wise.

I had planned to see it in theaters but I'll probably wait to get it from netflix unless I see something in the upcoming promotion that changes my mind.

Things get released on DVD so quickly these days that I'd rather just wait 3-4 months and save the $15...or use that money to see GOTG a second time if I like it enough.

i'm gonna see it, that much is inevitable. however, whether it's on netflix, redbox, multiplexing, critic screening, or watching it at a friend's house i'm going in with the intentions to riff on it and just make fun of it.

Yes, I will, as soon as it comes out here (September). And why? A couple of reasons actually:

- I'm a Turtles fun so I'll have to see it anyway.
- I like most of the things about the movie so far, and the little I don't exactly like are not enough to make be not wanna see it.
- I can think for myself, I don't need others to tell me if it's good or not, I'm old enough to know I have to see something first and only then decide if it's good or bad, if it sucks? It's not the end of the world.

And for everyone waiting for the reviews to decide if they're going to see it just remeber this, the original movie was slamed by critics, and yet everyone loves it like it's the best thing ever made.

Don't plan to. If my dad grabs it from the redbox once it comes out, I'll give it a watch so the money's not wasted, but I'm not looking forward to this trainwreck at all.

Gonna buy a ticket for a different movie & then sneak into TMNT. "Yes, other".
However, this? I heavily approve of this.

Umm, okay? I never said I didn't want to see it, I just don't want my ticket purchase to go towards whether or not another one of these films is made. "Speak with your wallet" as they say. For all that I dislike, I am still curious about it, there's just so much that I am against that I do not wish to financially support their vision.

At this stage, yes I plan to see it though I don't know how or when. The next trailer will probably further impact my decision in one direction or the other - and definitely as to whether it's sooner rather than later.

I mean, I usually prefer to watch something so then I can analyse and (in this movie's case), potentially criticize it more thoroughly, but if I were to hear that this movie is Dragonball: Evolution levels of terrible, I will rescind all plans to watch it. There are some things even I cannot do!

If you truly don't want your money to go to it then just don't see it. If, however, you are curious enough to see it, then give them your money. You have to decide whether or not your curiosity warrants paying money to a piece of media you are not supportive of. It's called making a choice.

No offense, but that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Just because it has the TMNT named slapped on it, doesn't automatically guarantees it will be good. If that were true, all of us would love stuff like Next Mutation, TMNT 3, etc.

No more ridiculous than a lot of the other crap being said in this thread
If someone loves TMNT so much that they feel they will like the film regardless then. who are you to tell them different.. But yet people can claim up and down about how bad it will be.. Believe it or not.. some of us don't need a reason to "like" this. And we sure don't need to explain "why" either. Just like others don't need to explain why they'll hate it before seeing it. People enjoy different things. If some decide to skip out on the first L.A. film in 24 years bc they don't think they'll enjoy it or have to much pride and ego to allow themselves to enjoy it then that is their decision. It is what it is. But There is nothing "ridiculous" about someone having enough confidence in a film to know that they will enjoy it regardless of it being a masterpiece or not. Not everyone is a cynic.

Yes, in theaters, opening night. Like a true TMNT fan would, my girlfriend is excited to see it as well. Looks as entertaining as the Transformer films were to be honest, and those were fun in theaters. I'm pretty confident even in what little we've seen via trailers it'll be fresh, exciting, different and more fun than all of the previous ninja turtle movies. I don't know if it will actually be a good movie however.

If you would like to make a more effective argument, then I suggest you address the argument directly, and refrain from sarcastic comments in order to be taken more seriously. However, I agree that my previous comments were written very badly, so I would like to try to explain it better.

First of all, yes, your plan works fine for you. However, it does not work out well for everyone else. One issue is that if the movie theater is full, you may be putting a person who bought a ticket out of a seat, although this can be easily avoided by waiting a bit after it comes out, which I'm sure you planned to do anyway. The next issue is simply you're not giving your money to the studio that made the movie you are watching. Movies cost money to make, so it is good to give them your money if you want to see the movie. That is how selling a product works. You're essentially stealing from the movie. Admittedly, it is not as bad as stealing normally as you are only taking from the manufacturer, not from the seller/middle-man. However, it is stealing nonetheless. I believe that I understand your situation - you are disgusted with the look and announced crew of the movie, so you do not want to support the movie. On the other hand, you are a TMNT fan so you would like to see it, if only for the right to criticize it. Like I said before, this is the part where one would make a choice - support something you don't want to support, or don't watch it and lose the right to fully critique it. There is, as you suggested, another option, but that is stealing, which is, in most people's cases, ethically wrong, and against the law. The argument could be made that it is such a little thing that it is inconsequential - that is true, but it applies both ways - the lack of one ticket sale might not hurt them that much, but the gaining of one also will not help them that much.

Uhh... what? I'm too lazy to do the research but I'm 90% sure that's the shortest post I've ever made here in all my years. Anyone who's been here a while can tell you that. I can't imagine how many people just spit Mountain Dew all over their screens upon reading THAT one.

And guys, I really wish nobody ever again used the "True Fan" argument. That's just plain condescending and depressing. Most people know better, but the couple who say it are screwy. You can love something and not love every part of it. A TMNT fan who loves literally every single other thing having to do with TMNT, who doesn't like what they see in, say, the new film, the old film, or Next Mutation, is still a huge fan. Being a fan of a huge property like TMNT is like being at a buffet; you can pick the parts you like and ignore the rest, and either way, you're getting exactly what you want out of it. If you don't wanna eat the squid, fine, don't eat the damn squid if it's not your thing. You're not "doing it wrong."

If they wanna go, they'll go. Everybody here's a huge fan whether they go see it or not. That much should be obvious by how much time we spend here arguing about it. But the people who'd rather stay home on opening night and watch their DVDs of the Nick show are still just as big fans as everyone else, they just have their preference. Leave 'em alone.

I don't want to get in to this whole argument again... but the difference is that the movie was bought legally to begin with! It's perfectly legal to buy and sell stuff like that second hand, UNLESS it's stolen to being with. I'm a huge fan of buying second hand stuff and being conscious about our buy-and-throw-away ways, so just had to chime in on this particular note...

I'm just curious....cause I know I voted "yes" to watch it in theaters...but even I will wait for DVD if it gets super horrible reviews.

Not for me, because most movies I have been seeing that get great reviews, I find to be overrated and sometimes outright suck.

For what it's worth, I would probably do the same thing as you, in your position. Not saying I really condone it, but if I wanted to see it but not support it financially (which apparently some can't distinguish between just filling a seat and actually putting up hard-earned cash for something) I might go that route. And at least that way, you'd be supporting some other movie, even if you're not watching it.... (Go with GotG, that way it will get better numbers, LOL!!!)

That said, I DO intend to go see it opening day- right after work. I'll be going early, for the cheaper matinee price, though hopefully they'll have a 3d showing then. If not, I'll wait to see the first 3d one, just for the glasses, if nothing else.

Their opinions being more valid? As if turtle fans don't exist elsewhere? Maybe they didn't have the time to post on a message board years in advance of their big screen revival.

Of course a forum dedicated to the TMNT would see an influx in not just new fans, but returning old fans to talk about their new big screen portrayl. Long time fans would be excited in advance of the film. It's an exciting time for fans of the franchise.

New comers will be here after they see the film as well, especially if it impacts them in a positive way into becoming new fans. Will those new fans be treated with "newbie" status from judgemental long time members?

No that's only really a problem with dromers who add. I like this and if you don't your opinion doesn't matter. Or the flip side I hate this and if you don't your opinion doesn't matter. Do not even try to deny that you haven't seen this? Mostly new dromers I see this behavior from. Key word for the rest of the Internet "MOSTLY" not all.

Yeah, I can just click on the numbers on the side (like 22 for the other, 63 for the yes) and it tells me exactly who voted for what, and I can even click on the names and find out all about their stats. When they joined the forum, how many posts they have, and I can go back to like 20 pages worth of their posts to view their posting habits. It's fun. When I am seeing 8 people who just joined this forum this weekend alone to vote in this poll, when there hasn't been any new trailer or whatnot, it kind of sends up a red flag in my opinion. That's all. I'm probably wrong, but whatever, why worry about what one person on this forum is saying? Hmmmm?

That's some serious paranoia. Let's all get our tin foil hats out. That or just an attempt at slandering credibility of opinions, out of spite that clearly this poll shows run away excitement for the movie. It's not a conspiracy, it's a turtles forum, a new movie is coming out, most people are excited to see. New fans will come here. That's a positive thing, no? Platinum Dunes isn't wasting time with studio plants on various message boards dedicated to the turtles. They will make their money regardless.

Hey Dude and weres your Avatar picture ? and back to topic now I will watch it in the movie theater or I will try atleast.

It's fun. This is how I hunt down other Raph fans like myself, and sometime we become friends on facebook!

I see. Didn't realize you could do that. So I looked at it, and guess what? I only found a few posters listed whose names I didn't recognize as long-timers- and they were scattered ALL OVER the poll. Most of them were regulars, or at the very least had been here before. I'm just not seeing this rash of "plants" that others are seeing. Also, a person only posting a few times doesn't make them a plant. Some just don't have time or interest in becoming a full-time member of a forum, or only post in passing, or are run off by elitist so-called "true fans" who look down on them. (I almost left myself shortly after joining, for that very reason.)

As a new member, I can honestly say I am very excited for this movie. Even if there are members on here who arent happy about this movie, I still love this forum and being apart of any discussion dealing with the new movie.

My hope is that once a full trailer comes out it will finally shed some light on the direction of this movie and hopefully it will be something we can all find something great in. Personally, based on what little we've seen I think this movie is gonna kick a$$.

Serious-mode! This is getting out right silly! Knock it of with this turd-slinging, particularly at new members, it's getting down right aggravating! I'm a long time turtle fan my self, but I didn't join this board until quite recently. The fact that I'm carefully positive towards the new film isn't supposed to make me feel embarrassed and out-of-place here! Some of you hard-core skeptics need to dig up some common politeness, you are making this place feel very hostile! I'm not saying there isn't members of the pro-film group that isn't too up-in-faces at times, far from it. But the skeptics are really grouping up and getting in to ass-hat mode lately, makes me wonder why the heck I'm here. This place has at times less manners then 4chan... And that's pretty freakin' bad!

I'm not gonna go out of my way to watch this one. Nor am I ever going to spend money to see it in any capacity. Fair play to those of you who do, I hope you enjoy it. I've personally been burned too often with awful reboots, and if the trailer makes me cringe rather than smile, then it's not worth the risk.

I know where the new members come from, and I know why they are here, and no, they're not plants from the studio...

They are just people that are willing to give this movie a chance and are just tired of all the negativity around the internet regarding this movie, and they're here to make a point, that no mater how much you hate and hope this movie fails there are still more people interested in this then you know, and like it or not, this movie will make enough money to spawn a couple of sequels.

Such predictions made out of spite, are quite funny.

Besides, I support Warhorse in his suspicions as I too find it quite strange, when before launch of the big and controversial project, multiple new users appear who VERY (you can say OVERLY AGGRESIVELY) enthusiasticaly support new project, speak with nearly the same words and insult everyone else. Of course, every single one of them claim that they were TMNT-fans-for-life and just hadn't time to seek and join forum that existed for nearly a decade. It maybe true, but...it's still leaves a sour aftertaste, like unfinished book or something.

So far I see only new movie "defenders" being openly aggresive. And people who dislike new movie being rather polite or at least moderate in their speeches. I've yet to see "critics" to low themself to the point to call everyone who defend this movie "whiny bitches" or "idiots".

Being a fan of something doesn't necessarily mean agreeing with every single decision related to that thing. It's cool that you're excited for the movie, but I think a lot of people here were excited by the idea of the movie and have been consistently let down by it all along the way, so they are going to talk about that.

I really don't have much sympathy for people that stopped posting because every thread wasn't "This movie is going to be totally awesome!" especially since some of the "critical" posters that were here when I started posting don't post anymore either.

that's not the reasoning behind them leaving, Months ago before the trailer even released there was so much name calling Casuals, plants, blah, blah blah, that's why they left not because its wasn't positive but that their POV was wrong to others, it was ridiculous, And the means in which users push people was pretty despicable, especially on a forum meant for fans.

i dont mean to keep repeating my self but why is it odd fans might join a fan forum to talk about something they are a fan of, and yes some might get hostile because they are expect excitement and met with bashing(In there opinion) if this forum tomorrow was filled with people talking about how much the turtle suck you'd be upset too, or if you joined the Drome to just have people talk about how much they hate wolf series or mirage or nick you'd be upset. Yeah, and I have never, ever pulled the true fan card. But I don't like to use it, because it means different things to different people. Some think a true fan is someone accepting of every little thing, and some think a true fan is one that will only accept certain things, like the comics which are the roots of the Turtles. I'm in the middle, some things I like that are new, some things I don't like that are new, and there are some developments in the canon comics I like, and some that I despise.

I guess it was only a matter of time before things devolved the same way here as everywhere else.

This was a thread designed specifically for people to briefly explain whether they are or aren't planning to see the movie without it devolving into bickering. It says it in the first post: "Don't question peoples' answers and don't answer with snarky flame-bait."

I'm not gonna bother quoting anything, but just take a read through this thread and count how many times certain posters have done exactly that, or given rude/snarky/condescending replies, just because someone doesn't happen to share their opinion. Making smug assumptions about peoples' honesty, or playing some "true fan" rank-pulling nonsense? Come on, guys.

There are a lot of good conversations to be had here, positive or negative, about how this movie has shaped up, what decisions have been made, and how we see those through our own perspective as fans. But it's getting to be a real bummer coming here when every time someone wants to state an opinion or (perish forbid!) engage in a little criticism, there are a bunch of posters rushing to shut them up just because someone else's opinion is different than theirs and they can't seem to deal with that.

I guess I just don't see that as that strange. I'll go out on a limb and say everybody who posts here (except maybe the studio plants ;)) cares about TMNT as a franchise. Maybe they came to it at different times and for different reasons, but they are fans. I don't think it's odd though that with a franchise like TMNT that has had so many different versions and picked up new fans at different times that people would have different opinions about each version. Go to a Star Trek forum and see how divided people are over the different TV shows and movies, or a Star Wars forum, or a Doctor Who forum or any other franchise that has gone through different iterations and you'll see pretty much the same thing.

People are being driven off by the boatload because of the hostility and elitist attitudes forming in this forum. Using the term 'casual fan' as an insult, or saying someone's not a 'true fan' for whatever reason needs to stop - it's spiteful and only serves to divide the forums.

How unbelievably ridiculous some people are.. first of all, to judge one's 'fandom' of a property based on how long they've been registered on a forum. Second, to discredit (or to be too stupid to realize) the fact that the making of this movie has thrust the property into the spotlight once again for adults. I would say that, if a person's reaction to this movie is to seek out an internet forum dedicated to TMNT, that probably implies that they are NOT 'casual' fans, but quite heavily interested.

I agree that there are 'casual' fans, but I don't see how that would be an insulting label to wear. I went to see X-Men last night, and the new TMNT posters were up at the theatre. There were lineups of people standing nearby them, and I overheard the 'casuals' discussing. Their conversations, summarized, went something like "haha, dude, I can't wait to see this. I ****ing loved Ninja Turtles when I was a kid". The kind of person who fondly recalls the cartoon and hasn't really thought much about the property since then, other than the odd time when they see a TMNT shirt at Walmart, hold it up and jokingly say "Ninja Turtles! Should I buy it?". That person is definitely not looking for an internet community where they can discuss the upcoming TMNT movie, or anything else TMNT related. Tell that person that they're a casual TMNT fan. I think they would agree, and not feel insulted in the least.

So the bottom line here is that your registration date on this forum is not the badge of honour that some seem to believe it is. The fact of the matter is that there is a great and very realistic chance that many new members have been big fans of the Turtles (maybe even as big, or bigger than you!) for as long, or LONGER than you!! WOW imagine that! Because some of us might be OLDER than you. I know that I'm not one of the really old (age) new members, I'm only 27, born in 1987. So my first exposure was the cartoon, and my older brother (2 years older) was watching it from the first season, I 'watched' it with him since before I could understand what watching TV was at all. Probably more like 1989 before I was consciously a huge fan, and by then it was a full blown obsession for me, like many kids. But I never stopped loving TMNT, I've always kept up with the many different shows/movies/books.

The thing is, I'm not a message board guy. I don't check here all that often because there usually isn't anything to see, other than nonsense and bickering, and people flexing their internet profile muscles. There are a lot of people here who think that there is only one way to be a huge TMNT fan, and that is to be a member of this forum with 10,000+ posts who hates the new movie. Sorry to those of you who subscribe to that idea, but it just isn't true. If a person has registered on this forum to talk/read about TMNT, I think we can safely say that they're strongly interested in the brand.

And my vote went to: seeing it opening night. I am excited to see the most realistic looking Ninja Turtles ever made. I do wish the designs were more simple/classic, but I am still very excited for this movie.

You know, it's something as simple as an introduction to Raphael that can reel me back in hard core, 100%. I have my issues with aesthetics, but it's been his personality and sarcastic witty humor that I have always loved the most. His trademark Sai and the occasional motorcycle are just bonuses.

Ditto this. I really have zero interest in seeing publicity shots of Fox and co. There are a million things that they could be doing - cripes, I'm not a difficult person to excite - I got excited over seeing a store selling Poptarts the other day.

It's the Turtles - I want to be excited, I'm a pre-existing fan with a buttload of disposable income so the battle's already half-won for them. I feel like a virgin on prom night - and this movie's still sitting in the driver's seat fidgeting with the stereo.

Ok, I have to admit this. I have admitted it, and I will admit it again. The marketing could be better. Awhile ago (like, a few days ago), I thought, even though the marketing wasn't over the top and everywhere yet, it was still doing at least some of it's job and letting people everywhere know the movie was coming out. This was done over twitter, Facebook, YouTube, in some theaters with posters and trailers, etc.

But today I was talking with some kids, and TMNT came up. I asked them if they were excited to see the new movie, and their response was ... "There's going to be a movie?" That's when it dawned on me, that this marketing could be doing so much better. They could easily play the TV spot 'Brothers' on Nickelodeon every once in awhile. But the movie is 2.5 months away, and avid turtle fans don't know about it...

There marketing may not be the best, but ultimately it's their downfall at the end of all this. It was their choice to take these steps, and no ones losing anything if this movie fails, except the movie makers who chose this marketing plan themselves. They may succeed with this marketing plan, however, in the upcoming months. After Transformers, I can foresee it going into hardcore marketing, possibly bringing in the masses. Then, their marketing would've succeeded. They got lots of money, and they strategically built up interest by "dwelling in the shadows", and not wasted a bunch of marketing well in advance of the movie coming out. You don't have to spend around 200 million dollars on advertising (ASM2), and you still get results. Boom. Success!

May work, may not. Won't know until August. :-?

This is a big part of why I check the forums every day, and have been for a while - for me, it's the best way of finding out any new info on the movie. A quiet advertising campaign, combined with the fact that I'm outside the US so automatically don't get as much of the good stuff as you Yanks do, means that even less of a buzz is being created about the movie internationally.

It does kind of seem like a big focus of the creative and marketing decisions for this movie were aimed at dudes around the age of 30 who have fond memories of the '87 cartoon but might not consider themselves "fans" - if that makes sense? Much like I feel like the Transformers movies were successful because they delivered over-the-top, explosive -- like, literally explosive -- action in the form of something that demographic was familiar with, but didn't necessarily know or remember a ton about in detail.

But I feel like the 1990 movie was a success because they followed the source material but also made sure it was familiar to the kids watching the cartoon at the time. Even though it was largely a Mirage adaptation, they made sure April was a reporter, and that most of the characters' personalities, back-story and appearances weren't that far off from the cartoon.

In this case, so far it seems like the new movie has much less in common with the popular version for the kids right now by comparison - the Turtles look much different than they do on the Nick cartoon, April's an adult reporter instead of a teenage student, Shredder's appearance and back-story have been completely altered, and instead of someone "familiar" like Casey Jones, we've got an updated Vernon Fenwick in "Vern".

It might not make a difference at all, or maybe there's a last-minute sort of marketing plan in place... I just find the choices odd and interesting, and it makes me wonder how much they had the current crop of kid fans in mind when they were writing/developing this movie.

And when I went to go see the last X-Men movie on Memorial day weekend, I didn't see a trailer for TMNT in there either.

I'm really getting this feeling they are ripping stuff right from the 80's cartoon. I was watching some episodes over the weekend, and I think it was season 6 I was watching, but it was quite often April and Vernon were teamed up together for some scoop. Of course, he was usually trying to rip off her story, but still, he was a far more prominent figure in the 80's cartoon than Casey Jones ever was.

I really hate the way the marketing has been handled. there are so many things I feel like they could've done to hype people up if they really tried. despite all the problems I have with the look of this thing I would be willing to give it a shot if there was just something, anything that made me excited about it

This right here. I wish they would give us some meat and potatoes so it'll settle some fears before we can even decide if we wanna see it or not.

I voted yes to seeing it in the theater and will probably buy it on blu-ray.

I JUST WANT TO SEE A LONG TRAILER WHERE WE SEE THE TURTLES TOGETHER! As a Turtle fan I feel strung along.

I can't speak for everyone - and it's not my exact opinion - but to some people, absolutely ANY 80s toon influence would be an awful thing. Those people gave up on this movie a long, long time ago.

Since the 80s toon is more or less the only version of TMNT most of the general public really cares about, though, I always figured that was the version they were going to use for reference. So it wouldn't surprise me if there are still some more OT influences they're saving for "surprises" in the actual movie. I wouldn't be shocked if they somehow teased Bebop and Rocksteady for the sequel, if they aren't in the movie proper. I doubt they're in this one, we would've heard something by now about something that big. Nobody could keep that kind of thing a secret for long in this day and age.

It's not so much that it's bad. The 80's cartoon was awesome, I wouldn't be a TMNT fan without it, that's a fact. It's just, I've matured over the decades, so now, I'd like to see a more mature TMNT on the screen. That's all. It's not bad or good, it's just a personal preference.

^ I feel the same way. I love the old toon for introducing me to the characters and I have fond memories of it but I grew out of its tone and style along time ago. Its really hard to look down this movies tone though. They're obviously taking influences from the ot and that's what's mostly being referenced in the interviews but outfits aside the turtles don't look all that silly to me.

Wasn't the 80's cartoon a pretty big inspiration for the first live action movie? That's the impression I got anyway. I think it's just casting anyways.. the first film wasn't like the cartoon in tone imo.. it was dark. So I think this film will have some casting influenced by the 80's toon but still be dark like the fist film. It's been said that they are taking a lot of inspiration from different iterations. It was said that they wanted this to be more akin to the comic book. Time will tell..

Probably right.. But my point really is that just bc they casted a few characters from the first 80s toon doesn't mean it's going to be that cheesy and kidish.. It actually looks darker than anything I've seen in a TMNT iteration, besides the actual black and whites..imo.
I think the fights will be more sophisticated and intense than ever.

I just want the damn movie out already well it does look like it might have some seriousness and maturity to it but I doesn't look darker than anything that's come before to me. The over the top nature of the designs imo imply that it won't be taking itself too seriouusly but who knows. As I see it the only way to make a tmnt movie darker than the first one is if people actually die onscreen

I selected "Yes... Other" by virtue of the critics reviews and initial fan reaction upon the movie's release. If its good, I'll of course see it during the opening weekend. If not, being a huge TMNT fan, I'll still see it whether it gets released onto On Demand/HBO or home video or streaming since its still worth checking out. I definitely don't want to miss this since I've watched clips of the Coming Out To Your Town tour, Turtle Tunes, and Turtle Christmas that may be even worse. I just don't want for the movie's reputation to be so awful that it causes a boycott of the franchise causing Nick to cancel their series. It's VERY competitive out there in the pop cultural world, more than I ever can remember, and like numerous actors/actresses auditioning for a role, if it doesn't stand out, its only good for the curious.

I am afraid, with current designs they simply wouldn't fit on the screen all at once.

Anyway, my main problem with the movie, that (as of now) it looks very generic, like Bayformers level of generic. If it was light and comedic or dark and moody project, but with recognizable designs and without odd intent on reinventing stuff, I would have more positive opinion on the movie. Instead, it looks like a random movie about some mutants...aside from the names it doesn't really strike me as TMNT movie. More like an attempt to make something inspired by TMNT. Bay's multimillion fanfic. Just like Transformers.

I'm fine with them pulling from the 1987 series. I prefer to see a serious take on the turtles, but I also am up to see the lighthearted teen turtles I grew up with too. Things like bringing in Vernon kind of excite me (if he's close to his 1987 counterpart). Bebop and Rocksteady (if done right, not sure I would want them bumbling idiots [really like them in IDW]) would also be great. However, I don't want it to be a '1987 cartoon come to life'. I want the turtles to get deeper in character, Shredder as a real threat, serious tone, serious situations, etc. But I'm not against the turtles having fun and cracking jokes, because that's who the turtles are, even in the early Mirage comics.

Bottom line: I'm not against 1987 influences, but I'd be kind of disappointed with it being based off of the 1987 cartoon. From what we've seen, I believe it won't be. It has a lot of differences and similarities.

I agree. I want to see a more mature movie, but I'm not sure I would want it to take itself too seriously. (Not sure what I would like, though, until I would actually see it done. A mirage issue 1 type of movie would be hard to make [hard to make a good one], but I think that concept is sweet.) The writer of this movie says that it will supposedly be more lighthearted than it looks, and I'm hoping to see a nice blend of dark tone and teen TMNT, like the 2003 or IDW turtles.

Ironman, Avengers and Kick Ass I think are good examples of not being too serious, but not complete slapstick either. Tim Burton's and Nolan's Batmans might be too serious, but Batman Forever and B&R were just too silly.

Ditto - I don't mind too much either way which direction they choose; my main concern is just that it's done well. I don't think it's out of the question to have a well-mixed movie that has a bit of each and something for everyone.

I was hoping that this new movie would have more influence from the new IDW comic book series. It's the perfect balance of seriousness and silliness. It's dark, but it doesn't descend into absurdity by not acknowledging how silly some of the concepts are, which makes it work. This movie seems to be solely looking towards the 80s cartoon and trying to ground it, which actually... might work. I'll wait and see.

Unless there's some radically new and different clip/trailer/information that's released, my opinion is more of a wait and see what others are thinking of this film. With this past post explaining my position more:
Well... I don't take the critics opinions on face value. I look at the language and expectations of the critics in the first place of this film or any film for that matter. If they ridiculously expect kids movies and action films to always have some deep, resonate meaning like some indie film than I won't hold much weight on those critics' opinions. It's absurd when critics don't assess a film on its own merit and tone, but expect it to always have some Oscar-winning actors and performances, sometimes yes... a good light-hearted popcorn flick can be just as good as well. (As an analogy, it's just as unfair for food critics who rate a specific Asian dish against a specific Mexican dish without accounting for different tastes/preparation, when they should be leaning more toward rating the quality of a specific, individual entree amongst several restaurants within the same themed cuisine [or same genre if we apply it to movies].) I observe what these critics think is outstanding and what's horrible, and by then I can already get a sense of how strict or lenient their tastes are, especially by the tone in their review if they are not giving the movie a chance with its own storytelling. I look for them to clearly explain their position and expectations, then I can make a much more fair assessment whether I should decide to go and see a film.

In addition, I've observed the expectations of some of the users here for this film, so if they do go out to see the film and rate it, I can more or less get an assessment of what their criteria is for it. If somebody is holding the plot and characters to a higher standard, I'm going to put more weight in their opinion rather than a random fanboy constantly squealing how badass the action scenes were or how superficially cool the Turtles looked.

If I just randomly consumed anything that looked good on the surface (i.e. commercials, trailers, promotional material, etc.) without noticing what a multitude of others thought, I would only have myself to blame for inadvertently contributing to the quality (or lack there of) for a movie. Now if the movie has mediocre reviews and I feel more or less the same about it, I may see it in a second-run theater ($1-3/ticket) or rent it. Furthermore, with movie tickets sometimes reaching close to $10, I think it's advisable for me to be a little cautious with my money.

...So um, am I still considered a TMNT "fan" if I reached to the point of apathy for this movie?:lol:

It's interesting to note though, it seems when a new incarnation comes along in the TV/Movie areas, the stuff that the fans actually liked, seem to stay.

80's cartoon, the different colored bandanas (whoever chose the colors for each Turtle, had to have been some sort of genius, because each color represented the personalities to each Turtle to the core) and of course, their love of pizza.

In the first movie, this would be the first time the mass audience would see Raphael as the angry one, not the sarcastic/comedian type. It would be a staple of him that would stick with other incarnations from here on out.

Next Mutation, Raph had his motorcycle. Since then, incarnations would have him have his bike.

2007 cartoon introduced us with Michelangelo with blue eyes as opposed to the normal browns or blacks. This is something that would follow in the Nick toon, and seems to continue on in the new movie. It's something I actually like.

Now, I'm just curious and a little worried, what will be the new thing this new movie adds that will be a trend from here on out?

I wasn't at first because of my hatred for Bay, Megan and the designs. I didn't want to give them my money and support and boost their stupid egos.

Then after my initial rage passed I thought about it. I think I will for a review sake, for the other actors I like and out of curiosity.

I mean, I read and watched Twilight, (though I knew it would be horrible going into it) for the sake of curiosity and giving it a chance, so I can do the same for the turtles. I hate twilight more than I hate anything about this movie. (I don't think the turtles can be as horrid as Twilight.)

I also figured I'd give it a chance to possibly surprise me. Like Heath Ledger did with his Joker role.

I read that you can get some movie ticket or credit when you buy the new Nick series DVD, so I have no reason not to.

Dunno when tho. But, I'm going in with high standards and low expectations.

Many, many, many times.
Over the 30 plus years I've been seeing movies, none have had me looking forward to them as much as this film. There have certainly been some major cinema releases over this time and as much as I have enjoyed the big ones and some I have seen multiple times and even watched the midnight screenings, none compare to this film for me so far in terms of anticipation. TBH I think I'll see this at the cinemas twice in imax 3d and at least once in a regular screening. I'll likely furnish my house in all new tmnt as just the idea of this new look tmnt has already captured my imagination and painted my mind all the more turtle green forever. It certainly demonstrates the power of ideas and films in terms of having a positive effect on you when you feel as I do. If a game was to come out too, well that would just about blow my mind. Many times will I watch it and many times I will enjoy the experience for what it is to me.

Yes "Other" ... I'm going to watch it a few times at the cinema. I'm already encouraging my friends and family to go with me on different days. For premiere day, I'll be watching it on IMAX at Millennium Point.

I'm hoping there will be some promotion here in Birmingham - something to get excited about - and that the film doesn't just hit screens and that's it. When The Man In The Iron Mask came out, Odeon had people dressed as the Musketeers promoting the film and it was really cool. I haven't seen much of that kind of promotion, so it would be great to have it with this new TMNT movie.

If I love the film after I've watched the film once, I'll know whether I want to see it again. I'm reserving judgement till then and getting involved in the interactive stuff that is going on.

From what I've seen from the trailer, I'm going to love it. As an adult, dark ninja turtles are what its all about. Straight from the comic books - mean, dark and angry. They look so realistic its almost scary - and I'm loving it. Master Splinter is my favourite design so far. As a former rat enthusiast, I keep getting goosebumps when I see him. He looks awesome.

As for the new Shredder, they've taken it to the extreme with his mega bladed outfit. I think he'll be a worthy opponent for these big, scary turtles. This is going to be ninja turtles extreme, loaded with mega special effects and scary realism ... and I think I'm going to love all of it. The trailer has got me so pumped I can't wait for August.

CG is so good now. I can't believe how realistic the turtles and Splinter look in the trailer. They look like proper mutants, but retaining the comaradery and brotherhood that binds them.

Give me dark, realistic and gritty ninja turtles anyday. I love it!

I'll see it but I plan on having a huge grimace on my face throughout the entire film with angry eyes looking at other movie go-ers.

As soon as I come home I'm also going to post an angry review/rant on the movie on every online forum imaginable, spreading my disgust throughout the internet.

It will be quite a splendid afternoon.

That sounds like a sad life tbh.

Not gonna lie, I fully approve of it. I'm kinda tempted to do the same myself, but I don't want to spend what little money I have on a movie I will almost certainly dislike.

Not for me. I'm loving those noses and the realism. It's refreshing to see something aimed at a more mature market in mass media.

The problem is not that this is realistic Turtles, but with your statement that you want to see "gritty and mature" TMNT movie, because from look of it Bay's project is everything, but "gritty and mature". It's like 80-s cartoon, but with live actors and CGI Turtles.

hell yeah.

with a tmnt shirt and snapback on.

im trying to get a couple of my best friends to go. they're brothers and are stoked, but one has kids and his cash isn't too crazy dispensible and the other has a lot of money, but works all the time (funny how that works). we've all been fans since the 80's and they're excited, but dunno if it'll happen, at least not opening day.

but with or without them, my gf and i will be there at the earliest showing possible.

whether it turns out good or crappy, we'll have to wait and see, but i am stoked that there's a new big-budget, live-action tmnt movie thats gonna be on the big screen.

i wouldn't miss it.

Some theaters have been selling beer now and the one nearest to me has a theater just for adults and has a completely staffed bar.

Ah, that's lucky... we've got a handful of adults-only cinemas here that serve booze (any other cinema, no booze allowed) and they're still something of a rarity in these parts (we call them Gold Class cinemas and there are only six in my entire state, fourteen in the entire country)... they don't always show all of the movies and only seat about 30 - 40 people.

It must be amazing to be able to go to a regular cinema and buy beer! Hell, with some movies it'd probably actually improve the viewing experience...

It's still just a movie, it's not really all that unfathomable that the particular style it's done in might not appeal to some... *shrug*

Any ideas if this will be one that's available "same day as theaters" via rental on digital cable? Even if I was one of those who was sure I wanted to be at the theater, for personal reasons I don't know right now if I'd really even be able to go.

I had planned on seeing it the day it came out but now it seems I probably won't be able to since I'm moving cross country. Probably won't be able to see it until about a week or so after it's been out, so at least the crowds will (hopefully) not be as bad.
With that said, I'm cautiously hyped for it. Only thing that sucks is I won't have any friends to go see it with since I'll be in an entirely new place, and I already know my future flatmate thinks she's too cool for TMNT so that's out the window.

Personally? I'd rather not waste my time or money on a bad movie, or financially support the people who make 'em. I've got better things to do than watch something I'm not going to enjoy. We've only got so much time on this world, my friend. :trazz:

But hey... Why does this even have to be questioned? Why are people expected to "try" something that looks bad? If someone isn't into something, why the effort to try to sway them? to each their own - if someone thinks a movie looks bad and decides not to see it, the marketing failed to do its job for that person, and that's that.

Yeah, I'm getting more weary of this thing by the moment. Transformers 4 disappointed me, and the only Liebersman movie I watched, Battle LA, sucked so bad, I don't even remember it. And I'm getting a Scooby Doo vibe from this movie, and I hated the theatrical versions of Scooby Doo. And I too, was really disappointed in MOS as someone had mentioned. What a horrible movie. The dude who played Superman sucked as bad as Megan Fox in the acting department, and it's obvious with his lack of dialogue in the movie compared to everyone else, the director didn't have much faith in him either.

Maybe I'll just wait for someone to load up the Ninja Turtle scenes up on Youtube before I make my final decision. The lack of promotion and talk about this thing, maybe the studios don't have much faith in the movie either.

For the Turtles' sake I almost hope their movie will be one bright spot in this person's career. Even if it's a dim spot that simply looks brighter laid over a lot of darkness...

Thinking maybe I might grab a bottle or two of the soda shortly before opening day and leave it up to the bottles if they care to give me a free ticket or not.

For me. It wasn't just bad, I enjoy bad movies and never stop a movie until I've finished. But battle LA was not only bad, but extremely boring, so boring I decided to go to bed.

The one movie I stopped watching, and I can stomach a lot.
