honestly, i still think it counts, because the verbage they used was - "tweet your vote for...", which i am taking to mean, that we are already voting (by clicking on the image), and now they are simply giving us an avenue to tweet about it.

Yeah, agreed. While social media means that companies can get fans to do a lot of the online promotion for them, essentially forcing them to do it like this is very poor form. If you post good content, the fans will be happy to share it and talk it up. If you make them jump through hoops and do extra marketing work for you to even access that content in the first place? That's just a cheap attempt to make them build hype for you, and it rubs a lot of people the wrong way. And it should, IMO.

It's an attempt to artificially trend the movie on Twitter, basically. Instead of (potentially) getting that to happen naturally by just releasing the material. I'm just not a fan of the idea on any level. But your mileage may vary.

well said, and its hard to argue with your logic (not sarcasm - because im actually rethinking my initial excitment)

dont get me wrong, i am excited still, but because hundreds if not thousands of tweets get published every minute, I imagine its get harder and harder to trend - that being said, from a business standpoint, using your consumer base as free marketing is nothing new - logos on t-shirts do the exact same thing. we pay to wear brand, and when seen by others, is basically free marketing. unfortunately i do not think this mentality is anything new, so to be applied to social media, seems like a natural step.

Not wanting to start an argument here, so I will say this and then drop the issue.. but it seems obvious to me that they would NOT do four different silhouettes so that the character posters stay entirely hidden. Viewing it as laziness just seems like a reach to me, because there has been a clear theme among the people who can't get behind this movie. One of the elements has been "lazy marketing". I don't see how this fits that description in any way.

It's a bean-counting executive's dream come true! I just personally dislike what that represents. If you tweet about a movie or wear a brand t-shirt because you're a fan and you actively choose to, that's totally cool. And I do that a lot myself. Because it's coming from a place of fandom, reacting to the content, making a personal connection with it and wanting to express that.

But this feels shadier, more manipulative in a way, if that makes sense? It's not simply fans reacting to the content - it's making them work for it in the first place. It makes doing the promotion the customer's job, on top of actually paying the corporation for the product they promoted for them, and... eesh. I worry about where that's leading, y'know?

But... I admittedly have very strong feelings about this sort of thing. :tlol:

The silhouette is... what, Leonardo, right? It's a silhouette of a specific Turtle. There's no reason they couldn't have done the same for each one, considering they have unique designs and would also have unique silhouettes.

And let's be real - the online marketing is criticized for its laziness because it's been lazy. Most of the marketing has been paint swatches, coloured text, and barely-photoshopped stock photos. This actually has a bit of effort behind it, but again - they could have gone the extra mile and clearly chose not to.

have you ever seen the show MAD MEN - its craziness; but it opened my eyes to what happens behind the scenes (not the personal affairs, but to the types of conversations executives have behind closed doors pertaining to product placements, and how to best utilizie their consumer base). I know its fiction, but just listening to a lot of what they say, and seeing how advertisements today work, its really eye-opening, and like you said...a little scary.

but call me a lemming, but I have to agree with others here, because its a property i love, it hardly seems like work, and im almost enjoying the process - BUT...I WILL SORELY DISAPPOINTED IF THIS TURNS OUT TO BE TRAILER 3...like throw a tantrum like my two-year old upset. if that happens - then ill happily admit BRY that I got duped. but i hope it doesnt happen. :lol:

There isn't a problem with the type of marketing. This is actually a clever idea to build up hype. One problem though: they've released two trailers already that were almost exactly the same, and their viral marketing consists of nothing but stock art. Also, how many official images of the turtles have been released? One or two? Every other shot of this film I've seen has Megan Fox. Any turtles pictures are just magazine scans or something. All that kind of kills the hype a little (and by a little I mean a lot).

Combine that with the fact that the film comes out in less than two months and they're pulling this stunt just now... man. Someone dropped the ball. If this was something they wanted to do, they should have had this Twitter thing started in, like, March, around when the first trailer was released. That'd give people time to realize that there's a TMNT movie coming.

The loudest voice about this movie is the negative one, and now people learning about the new movie go onto the internet, see sites like this where lots of people are screaming about how terrible it'll be, and assume since we're TMNT fans we must know what we're talking about. And subsequently don't waste time with the movie.

See, if they had done this Twitter thing months earlier, before trailer 1 came out, then the film would trend on Twitter and would have pumped people up a lot more. First impressions are important, and if they'd seen that first trailer while TMNT was "trending" on Twitter, they'd have still been relatively excited for it. What actually happened was people probably stumbled on it by accident and said, "Meh."

And it's probably going to be Trailer 3 guys.

Instead they created a new website, set up a twitter voting campaign and are stirring up more attention by keeping things quiet and secret than they would if they just released everything a long time ago. The closer to the release date the better so you can get all of the kids excited and tie it in with the season finale of the tv show and then use the movie to get them excited about the season premiere of the show. Yeah... I think lighting and photoshoping may just be a large factor between this one and the footage, though the art that's on the merchandise looks more illustration to me than coming directly from 3D render.

Yeah.... his face looks like bad photoshop. Some people have no concept of design and it's really shocking for hollywood grade work. It's not terrible... but it looks like they put this photo (his face) together from two different renderings of Leo. I see this all the time... In terms of the models, from the neck up, yeah I'm a "hater." Though I actually find this and the merchandise imagery slightly more flattering. Slightly. It still hasn't won me to Leo's/their look, I doubt this movie ever will, but if anything this new pic isn't quite the same "dear god!" reaction at least...

But soon it will be Mike's turn to be scrutinized. Leo after all is one of those people keep saying looks best, so this next one should be interesting.
