When Splinter explains their origins, there better be a flashback to oroku saki and hamato yoshi fighting hand to hand.

And the Turtles as Pre-Teens. Since they have toys that confirm that.

Isn't 90 mins kinda short?

Yeah, I'm worried about pacing, myself. 90 minutes isn't very long for all the stuff this movie has in it. I wouldn't want it to be three hours or even two and a half, but two solid hours would be just fine.

Agreed. I think they'll be able to lengthen it in the second film because they will have the cgi designs of the turtles and splinter already done.

Honestly, I'm very concerned that the story is going to be seriously undercut to get to all the toy commer-... errr, action scenes.

I mean, I know it's an action movie, but I like me some nice juicy plot, too, and I like when it doesn't all just whiz by through clumsy, fast-talking exposition (just like Transformers... not to beat a dead horse, but seriously). I mean, we'll see, but I'm a little surprised/perturbed if it really is only 90 minutes. That doesn't seem right.

I thought Samx said this movie was going to over 2 hours? Now it's back to that 90 minute mark. As much as I love the 1990 movie, I still feel like it could have had an extra 15 or 20 minutes fleshing out the Turtles a little bit more. Especially Mikey. I know there was that whole thing at the farm where he went into deep training, and we only saw a glimpse of it.

NinjaPug

Only 90 minutes? That's too short. Yet Bay's other production, Transformers 4, is 165 minutes long.

Yeah, as a kid I read the movie adaptation novel a bunch of times and was all, "Hey, wait, that wasn't in the movie..." I'm pretty sure that was the first book based on a movie I'd ever read, and I didn't exactly have the movie handy for reference, so I was all, "Am I losing it, or is this book describing stuff I didn't actually see?"

Just for the sake of balance, 2 hours would seem preferable for the new film. Maybe people are getting bad intel as far as it being 90 minutes?

I heard 90 minutes it might be longer.

But you don't have to take my word for it.

Yeah, and the book even went into detail with Leo training the guys with their masks over the faces. As with Mikey, we saw glimpses of it, but not the entire thing.

I'm hoping this thing is at least 120 minutes. We have Leo, Mikey, Raph, Donnie, April, Eric Sachs, Woopie Goldberg and Vernon in this. Lots of characters to try and stuff in a 90 minute movie.

Not to mention, it's gonna take at least 6 and a half minutes to explain/justify Donnie's Ghostbusters cosplay.

I think the fights are gonna be all flash no bash. But I don't care much. Despite the main idea behind the TMNT being action & combat, it's one of the least interesting aspects of the property, to me. I mean, a good fight scene in a comic is awesome, but otherwise I prefer the intimate moments.

I just realized, I am remembering sh!t from a book that I probably read once or twice, like 20 years ago. Damn. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Can we expect a novelization of this version? I have read the novels of Movies 1, 3 and 4, but never got my hands on 2.

And oh, back on topic. Well, judging from the trailer, the Raph vs Shredder fight looks to be sick. And did I see Raph throw someone right throught the window of a subway train passing by?

Leo656
06-24-2014, 06:50 PM
I remember reading it because my copy was autographed by Mikey and Raphael when I met them at some store opening. :P Their costumes, for some reason, were fuzzy. Didn't care.

I still have that book someplace.

Depends. He might talk super duper fast, like Shia LaBoulf in Transformers, or the dude from Micro car commercials. I know a lot of nerds like Donnie who tend to speak really fast.

Well, I remember in the book, Raph went to go see E.T., while in the movie he went to go see Critters. I think I like the movie version best.

I predict pretty much all the exposition in this movie will be delivered in Shia-Speak. Gotta zip past it to get to the Crash-Bang-Kaboom, after all.

Man, did I hate him in those Transformers movies. Did that guy do ALL the coke, or what?

I think the fight scenes will do passably well - Bay's strength is crowd-pleasing action sequences, after all. If they can just manage to avoid shaky-cam so that my grumpy old geezer eyes can track what's actually happening, I'll be happy. :)

i have hopes they will not go this route, simply because, from the fight footage we've seen, (or brief glimpses, a more apt description), while the camera is close, it isnt so close that we cannot appreciate the motion that is happening. If they keep the camera at this medium distance, I think ill be happy with outcome. (i hope)

I'm not sure yet. I think they will be entertaining enough. There is a lot of shaky cam so it's hard to tell. I don't know how integrated the choreography will be, but there will definitely be really cool moments with big moves like when Mikey uses his rocket skateboard to kick that guy on top of the SUV.

i have a feeling we wont see much fight...the line "he is fighting the robot samurai" makes me feel like we will start to see action and cut away in favor of Fox/Arnett Scenes

kinda like the Megatron/Optimus fight in the first one was ignored in favor of the Soldiers taking down blackout

I feel like that Arnett line will be said before Raph actually fights Shredder. If it was during the fight, I feel like there would be a little more intensity in his delivery. Just my thoughts.

What I do like. Is that the fight scenes don't look tightly over choreographed, a good example is the Star Wars prequel movies, where the fights looks rehearsed and no authentic feel over them. The trailer showed a few instances where things look natural although bombastic and extreme to the max, it looks natural.

That is true, But they were soldiers. The Ass scene in the international trailer (Bay has a sick obsession with butts) Fox is trying to capture the snow chase with her phone. I don't see much fighting coming out of them. I hope you are wrong, but Bay does like to cut out the real fight.

the thing is the criticisms that people levy on the movie version - over the top action, instead of stealthy stereotypical ninja action, gratuitous shots of April, Turtles taking out Foot with one hit, blah, blah, blah, etc can ALL be found in other iterations - especially the ones beloved by fans.

For crying out loud, do you guys remember the first season of the OT - the Turtles, after eating at Ninja Pizza, followed April into a building nearby posing as a security company - the fight that ensued LITERALLY brought that building down in the middle of NEW YORK CITY. a building.

in the new toon - season 1, finale. Donnie is knocking back foot with one hit, like candy. and when i find a gif, ill post it here.

its just ridiculous to me that people will point out flaws as reasons to dismiss a movie when those same flaws exist in the other iterations that people love but conveniently forget about, and yes:

1) I know that just because they are anthropomorphic turtles, who are shinobi, doesnt give them license to throw out all rules of logic
2) this new film is obviously doing their best to try and bring out about a sense of realism

...but in so far as Donnie deflecting bullets - heres my take: moves like that, where weapons are flourished in a circular fashion are meant for defensive purposes...im betting with his back up against the wall, he busts that out as desperate attempt to defend himself (a hail mary play, if you will) knowing full well he might deflect some, but will eventually be hit by others. im willing to bet if we saw more of that specific scene, a tranquilizer will be shown in show motion slipping right past his bo staff, and hitting him square on the shoulder, and boom, the tazer Foot swoop in and bring him down.

All good points graphic! I think for my part, I kind of have different expectations towards live action movies than cartoons; I kind of turn a blind eye to over-the-top action in cartoons specifically because it's a cartoon, so I don't expect as much realism from it. I don't know whether it's like that for anyone else though. :)

Also your take on Donnie deflecting the tranq darts is a good one - I'd like to see something like that in the movie.

Depends on how much influence Bay has on the action scenes.
He has this habit of zooming in and moving the camera around so you see close up of **** clashing together but you have no idea what is even going on.

Then it pans out when someone is knocked into something causing massive destruction or booms.

As long as it doesn't do that and I can see them fighting and it looks fluid. I think it should be fine. I'm betting they are banking on good fight scenes. That's what most people are going for.

That just makes me sad. Shot at with tranquilizers like frigging animals. Turtle or no, if you're a talking biped you count as people. :( Stupid Foot, I hope they're all annihilated by the end of the movie.

I'd say I'm surprised it would be Leo throwing a person through a moving subway train car, but if they're shooting at him, it's the Foot, and he despises guns anyhow... ah, do it.

One major aspect of that for transformers is their shear size they are two story tall robots fitting that in a camera short has got o be hard I think that aspect will be very down played in this movie as as score isn't as large so short can be filmed further further out and wider

Exactly sometimes people just jump ahead of themselves esp. with the donny scene those guns could be tranq darts or something instead of bullets. We really don't know yet.

Reminds me at the end of trailer 3 when April says "they're Ninjas" people were crying because she didn't say they were turtles. Fast forward to the last trailer we see the same scene extended where she does say "they're turtles"

agreed people complain about mikey farting and making boner jokes but in a couple of the 2003 episodes Mikey Is Belching in april's apt and belching after eating garlic to distract leo. Also in the 2003 cartoon they made some gas jokes too.

Burping/farting is ok in the cartoon but farting in the movie isn't  hypocrites.

The Turtles didn't fart in each others' faces like Mikey did in the new film...that's one difference. And the Turtles themselves didn't fart. That's another difference.

Also, the 2003 show had what...155 episodes? While this was this new group's FIRST/ONLY Movie So far. Fresh out of the Gate and it did it.

The 2003 cartoon didn't 'fart, talk about boners' in Episode 1. Or two. Or even three, or four or five.

But this movie did all of that and more in its' First Go Around as a 'New/Fresh Reboot'. Yet again, that's another BIG DIFFERENCE.

Plus...maybe if the new film didn't have Megan Fox take up the first 20-30 minutes of the film (except for a shadow throwing a container), had some actual brotherly bonding (like the 2003 show...from Mikey egging Raph on countless upon countless times...even giving him a pit name like 'Raphie-Boy', to Raph helping Leo forge swords after Leonardo was badly injured, to various other examples I can give) which the new film had none of, and actual Bad Ass Fight Scenes (which the 2003 show had Plentiful upon Plentiful of Action/Bad Ass Fight sequences showing their talents in their Martial Art abilities) unlike the new film....then maybe people would have FORGIVEN that crap.

So...yeah...BIG difference.
