Okay...so from the page of the script found in the TMNT: The Ultimate Visual History - we all know that this latest iteration of Splinter began as a lab rat.
As I was on LEGO.COM, TMNT section of course, I noticed that everything was very much geared towards the NICK show, only showing the movie sets as a product of the existing product line, rather than its own thing entirely.
Strangely enough, the character descriptions they gave largely fit their NICK counterparts, except for one: SPLINTER.
His description read as follows:
Originally an experimental lab rat exposed to ninja sensory training, Splinter was injected with a DNA-infused mutagen that gave him sentience, thoughts and a soul. After an unfortunate event at the lab, Splinter and four unlikely box turtles suddenly found themselves building their new home in the sewers.

- experimental lab rat
- ninja sensory training
- infused with mutagen that gave him sentience...and a soul?
...Obviously, for those of us who have seen the NICK show, we know this ISNT Splinter's origin, but perhaps somebody goofed, and posted his MOVIE origins.
***ON A SIDE NOTE: I checked everyone else's origins (Shredder, Karai, etc.) and they all seem in line with the NICK show storyline.

So what's the point of having Oroku Saki in this at all if there's no connection to Yoshi.
I think this is as good as the final nail for me if it's true.

Sounds similar to IDW, I'm ok with that. :)
I'm not opposed to adding some animal testing element to their origins (especially if it makes a strong critical point about that happening in real life), but this seems to completely remove the accidental mutation from their origins, which is... kind of important, IMO. Even the IDW origin had that, though it was also mixed in with some genetic engineering and reincarnation -- and even then, I feel like that over-complicates the origin and is one of the weaker updates from that run.
That whole "do not confuse the specter of your origin with your present worth" vibe is a big part of the appeal for me. If you make them "special" in-story, that makes them less actually special.
But it seems like every comic movie needs to have a "heroic destiny" or have their hero be specifically engineered/created these days instead being the result of a good old-fashioned chance encounter. Even Spider-Man's not safe. And the characters are weaker for it.

In this case it could be a screw up. No Hamato Yoshi link adds a lot of weirdness.
Ninja sensory training a rat sounds pretty stupid to begin with. Unless, again, the idea was to train a rat in ninjutsu, mutate him into a man-rat, and have your own "Hero" man-rat ninja. Because that's what April's father and Sachs were trying to do....create heroes.

Oh I'll bet you anything it's heroic destiny and not an accident. Far from it, this was all meant to happen.
Remember, the old script they were the pre-destined chosen warriors fated to save the world from birth. And like you said, Hollywood doesn't do coincidences anymore.
Whatever happened to "just the wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time?"
Like you said, they pre-destined Peter to become Spider-Man, his DNA being the only one that could be Spider-Man, blah blah blah. If Peter's not safe, I doubt the turtles are.
That said, it could just be a poorly written description of what actually happens. Reading between the lines and this could indeed be the IDW reincarnation origin...just poorly summarized.

While I'm sick of that particular trend as a whole, the Turtles in particular are the ultimate "accidents" and just don't fit with that kind of narrative. Which I think gives their story even more power - they're not even supposed to exist! They weren't created on purpose, they have no all-powerful force guiding them, they don't have a place in the world. Yet here they are. And they choose to do good. It's very meaningful in a way that "created to be heroes" can never be.
That said, it could just be a poorly written description of what actually happens. Reading between the lines and this could indeed be the IDW reincarnation origin...just poorly summarized.
Which would be... better. But still not good, IMO. It just over-complicates an origin that doesn't need it.

Obviously Hamato Yoshi is going to be a scientist in the lab and he mixes his own DNA with the mutagen he injects into Splinter. And also the mutagen/DNA gives Splinter Ninja powers.

Or they're cherrypicking stuff from IDW and whatnot. I don't really get what's so ridiculous about sensory ninja training. The alternative origin for Rat Splinter is a normal rat learning how to fight by watching a guy do it for awhile. They're both dumb as hell.

A rat learning by watching a guy do it is just goofy as hell, yes.
Ninja sensory training adds a hell of a lot of additional complications to reach the same goofy conclusion.
Then again, how many utterly STUPID scientific studies do we spend millions of dollars on? I suppose, sadly, spending millions to research ninja sensory training and testing it on a rat actually....makes....more realistic sense.
Dammit, I'm less irritated by the movie and more irritated with real life stupidity now.

There is no proof that the shadow figure in the trailer is oroku saki. When Eric Sachs says "We're taking your armor to the next level" it doesn't necessarily mean he's talking to the Shredder. I think it's Mr Chang who is probably an alien or some kind of disfigured business man who is trying to make armor for soldiers. Eric Sachs helps him make the armor stronger and falls in love with it and becomes Shredder. Eric Sachs = Oroku Saki. Mr. Chang= Krang. Now I hope this isn't the case but I still think they scrapped the Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi characters and Americanized the whole thing.
It makes sense though. They are trying to create ninja warriors to take over the world so they experiment on a lab rat and the rat escapes and becomes Splinter

So there is no Hamato Yoshi in this universe? Another ding against this movie.
Just lends more credence to the shadowy figure/Saki being nothing more than a throw in to try and appease fans. Saki being in this film won't make any sense with the butchered origin story in place.

Oh awesome, are we doing the "true fan" thing again? (I only caught that reply because your quote got it past my ignore list.)
Let's raise the "true fan" level, though, why don't we? This doesn't fit with what we've seen. There are images of Sachs with the ancient Shredder armor behind him. Hell, some of that is in the trailer.
Unless Mr. Chang is making ancient Japanese armor for soldiers.

Man, who is Chang? Did we just make that up? I'm surprised we didn't all just agree that the guy from the trailer is Saki. I mean, he looks like he's wearing a gi, his face is all messed up. What else do you want? For months, people have been cooking up the craziest ideas for how Saki could fit in, and now we're all skeptical?

As for the Splinter origin, if that's what it is...
It says the injection game Splinter "sentience, thoughts and a soul." It doesn't say anything about physical mutation, or the turtles. Then it says, "after an unfortunate event at the lab..." So, it sounds to me like creating giant animal people was not the plan, and the "unfortunate event" is an accident.
Splinter can be given "sentience, thoughts and a soul," by injection, making him like the Splinter of the 1990 movie - capable of learning ninjutsu, and caring for baby turtles - before being mutated. Then, the "unfortunate event" can mutate the five of them, and Splinter raises the turtles like a person would raise children.
Makes sense to me, and it doesn't ruin the origin.

Ninja sensory training isn't far off, as I'm sure "Ninja" is being treated as it's always been treated in American pop-culture, especially in movies. And, rats are quick to learn, very smart creatures. I guess "thoughts and a soul" is just simplified kids talk to tell splinter got more like a human, as it sounds kinda douchey implying that animals don't have a soul. If you are going to incorporate the concept of souls, it really should be something all living creature encompass, like in the IDW comic.
And the Turtles are now Box Turtles in this movie apparently... Okay. I'd prefer Sliders, but. As Box Turtles, although having a lot of characteristics of tortoises (land dwelling and domed shells ect) are still turtles. But, I think tortoises and Box Turtles makes bad bipedal Chelonians due to the domed shell... Alas, nit picking I suppose.
It's going to be interesting to see what the conflict between Splinter and the Turtles are against Shredder and the Foot Clan. I do hope it's something more deeper then just the Foot being the baddies and the Turtles are just the Vigilantes that happens to stop their shenanigans.

Seriously People
It's clearly taken from IDW, hes a lab rat(Reincarnation, Yoshi's pet turn lab rat, ect ect) , And will obviously have a connection to Oroku Saki, Why would they add his whole back story into a tiny little Bio on a lego site,
People seriously "have" to find every little thing to pick apart, seriously
And people only think Chang is Krang because of a IMDB listing Which is kind reaching IMO,
And why make Chang aka Krang look exactly like Nick shredder? that makes no sense.

I just started getting too excited that things looked better and realized the more excited I get the more chance for me to be devastated by a disaster of a movie like I was with Transformers.
Then I started getting nervous that I might be giving too much credit where credit is due.
But in this case, I think Sam's on point. It does sound like the IDW origin. The experiments on Splinter giving him sentience, leading to his realization he was Homato Yoshi in a past life (or believing he is, you can argue that all you like and side with Donatello's skepticism ;) ), etc. and then the mutagen is an accident.
Of course, then we have to figure out how Saki is still around if that was feudal Japan. I doubt they'll do the whole hibernation angle with Kitsune. That's just too much mysticism for them to get into, I think. But we have the feudal Japanese armor (unless it's passed down through the Foot Clan) and that scroll with turtles and utroms in ancient Japan....
Still up in the air what Sachs was doing with the creating heroes line. Also still unclear why they've said Sachs is Shredder, Sachs is Americanized Saki, Sachs is the main villain only to "lol wut, nah guys, Oroku Saki's armor." That part is still confusing.
Unless they were just straight up trolling the fans for the lulz.

Lets all take a deep calming breath, people... And none of this 'true fan' nonsense. I made myself Very clear on that. We are All fans, whether if we like some aspect of the movie or not.
I wrote this on a different forum last year before we found out about the change in the script that Col. Schradar would be dropped.
I'm gonna take a shot in the dark guess and say that this is how Shredder/Schradar, Stockman and Splinter will be portrayed and how they are all connected....
20 years ago we meet two scientists (Baxter & Yoshi) who are working on a special bio mutagen that was given to them by a military intelligence group to examine and understand. After some time Yoshi has begun trying it out on his pet/lab rat (Splinter) and for the past few years has been slowly mutating him to where he can speak and and do certain tasks. Yoshi and Splinter have a great bond and Yoshi takes Splinter home every night to teach him about being human. Splinter likes to watch old martial arts movies with Yoshi often so often that he has begun to learn ninja esque skills and is a big fan of Bruce Lee...
After some time Baxter tells Yoshi that he should tell the powers that be that the mutagen works! Stockman then says that they should show Colonel Schradar his progress with Splinter. Yoshi tells Baxter that he still wants more time to teach Splinter and that he feels that the Ooze is dangerous and if mishandled could be turned into a bio weapon. Baxter decides to go behind Yoshi's back and calls Schradar to come and see Splinter. The Col. later arrives at the lab unannounced and sees that not only does Splinter talk but that he has grown 8 times his normal size!
Yoshi tells the Col. that the Ooze is still in it's testing stage and that he feels that it is too dangerous to take from the lab and should be destroyed. The col. tells Yoshi that Baxter will be fully taking over the project and that his services are no longer needed. Yoshi asks that he take Splinter home with with him and the Col. tells Yoshi that his Rat is Government property and that his pet will be kept for testing and will later be dissected. In that moment Yoshi runs over to Splinter and tells him to grab the Ozze and run for it! A fight with Yoshi & the Col. ensue and the Col. kills Yoshi for letting Splinter escape from the lab with the Ooze.
Splinter flees to the sewer saddened that his master is dead. Not long after living down in the sewers he accidentally spills the Ooze on some baby Turtles that he found while down there....
That is how I could see it go down with the white Shredder and the Ooze that comes into play.

Your childhood cannot be destroyed if it's already over. It's in the past and cannot change.
You know, unless you can like...time travel
The DNA injected will be Yoshi's and I'm willing to bet that Sachs has injected himself with Saki's DNA, hence is obsession with ancient Japan.
This will be similar to the IDW stuff where all this stuff from the past is coming back through the DNA and 're-incarnation'

Ah, so they're box turtles (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1f/Three-toed_Box_Turtle.jpg) in this iteration...
Interestingly, this species has three toes. They've always had three fingers, so I wonder if they originally were meant to be based on box turtles and not red-ears as believed. I suppose it's a little over-analytical though since Eastman and Laird probably weren't too concerned about the exact species at the time of their conception.

Yeah, the Three-Toed Box Turtle have three toes on their hind legs.
Fun thing about the early Turtle design, according to the How to Draw a Ninja Turtle book by Solson, which contains step by step on how to draw a Ninja Turtle, pin-ups and various information and art by E&L. Informs about the feet, that the turtles' elongated heel is actually a third toe (akin to Nightcrawler), but it must be something that got dropped (like retractable claws from concept art) since that's the only place where I've seen it been refers as a toe. And few places outside of early Mirage and Lawson's art exaggerate the turtles' heel.

I think it's a really cool concept as well, as the heel-toe can function as a proto thumb of sorts giving the turtle extra gripping power with their feet.

If this is accurate it sounds to me like the human dna in the mutagen will probably come from hamato yoshi and will likey be done to complement the ninja sensory experiments already being done on splinter. I'm guessing that the plan was to inject him with the dna of a ninjitsu master and in effect download him with that masters abilitys. he'll essentially become yoshi or at least gain his memories and fighting skills. Hope I'm wrong though because that seems like a big cop out.

Personally, I could definitely do without the heroic destiny thing, but that's probably where this is headed. Maybe they'll handle it well, in which case I won't have anything to complain about. :P I'm just a bit tired of seeing it in every single superhero movie these days. :ohwell:
I think they're just making it so children could understand. I mean, the plot of the movie looks like they need to stop Shredder, which kind of is their mission in all forms of TMNT.
Everything will become clear once Splinter passes the Matrix of Leadership on to April just like her dad would have wanted.
I laughed for a hard 4 minutes and started laughing again when I pictured Shredder going up to the Turtles like "WHERE'S THE ALL SPARK!?"
I agree with the Yoshi and Baxter part. I think a lot of people are forgetting that in the real world, someone probably may be a master of a ninjitsu but might also have a second job. Yoshi probably is a scientist or at least a consultant for the sensory training. I do not, however, agree with the Col. Shrader part as they are calling him Shredder. I'm putting my money on that Eric Sachs is Oroku Saki's protege.

My guess? Hamato Yoshi was a legendary ninja from that ancient battle we saw in the tapestry Sachs was showing april. When they were experimenting with splinter to make thier mutant super-solider, they infused DNA and memories from Hamato Yoshi's exhumed remains, and backed it up with 'ninja conditioning' in the hopes of bringing Yoshi's ninja skills and reflexes to the surface in thier test subject. The problem is that Splinter also absorbed Yoshi's 'noble' personality along with his memories, something Saki and his lackey Sachs hadn't counted on.

There's a chance of that too. No one will know until the movie comes out. Exactly. If someone can't make their point without insulting or talking down to people, then they really need to think about how they communicate. Because it's actually very easy to disagree or have a debate without being insulting and hostile. People have differing opinions and the right to express them, and we've all gotta accept that.
So, yes, I do refer to them as idiots, but not to make my point.
And what exactly does that add to the conversation? All it does is make people feel insulted and add needless hostility to the conversation.
Even if you disagree with them or don't understand their perspective, don't call people idiots. There is no good reason to be so rude or insulting over a freaking movie.

This has IDW all over it. Had posted this on another thread.
Hello Technodrome,
Baxter Stockman runs the place, and gets a call from General Krang in Burnow Island. He is waging a war and is getting impatient for the test results he ordered. Baxter says there are delays but they are making great progress with the Terrapin/Human Exo-Armor Synthesis and Rodentia Psychotropic serum tests. Krang demands all of this, as well as the super soldier mutagen Baxter promised, since the General was giving Baxter the funding for all of this. Baxter promises all will be delivered soon and wait will be worth it… as a worried little rat looks on.
Three months later, Chet comments on how fold April is of the turtles. She asks why they call the rat Splinter. Another intern, Lindsey tells her they test him with Psychotropic serum, with splits, or splinters his animal nature in two, separating a capacity for human-like cognition, from his basic animal instincts. April asks what something like this has to do with bio-engineering meat, and Chet quickly draws her attention back to the turtles. April already named them, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael, inspired from a ‘history of renaissance art’ course she’s taking that semester.
Fifteen months ago. At Stockgen labs, Baxter Stockman gets a damage assessment from Chet regarding the ninja break-in. Though the terrapin exo-suit armor samples remain, the psychotropic serum was lost with Splinter and the traces of super soldier mutagen recovered from the alley have been tainted beyond use. Baxter is infuriated, as the ninja belonged to a rival of General Krang, who provided him with his secret mutagen at great risk; Krang won't like this news one bit. Chet suggests that if they can find Splinter, they can regain both the psychotropic drug and the mutagen from his blood. Baxter laughs at the idea of tracking down a single rat in New York City, but a slimy, furry, one-eyed individual comes crawling into the lab, assuring them he can do it: Old Hob.
Terrapin/Human Exo-Armor = The Shredder Armor we have been seeing.
Psychotropic serum, with splits, or splinters = Splinter being a lab rat in The Ultimate Visual History book script
super soldier mutagen Baxter promised = " Heros are not born they are created"
April asks what something like this has to do with bio-engineering meat = Aprils dad will replace April as a Stock Gen employ.
Chet suggests that if they can find Splinter, they can regain both the psychotropic drug and the mutagen from his blood = The Foot capturing the turtles as seen in set photos. Also the turtle layer break in. Maybe to capture splinter? Or the turtles for the psychotropic drug and the mutagen from their blood.

Of course Yoshi is not necessary in your synopsis. But if the DNA happens to be Yoshi's, and there was some kind memorie imprint of Saki vs Yoshi, it makes perfect sense to include him. Why do you keep running from this movie having anything to do with some source material? That question is geared towards every person disliking this movie. I can tell you why I run to source material when seeing something new. Because it resembles source material. The lab rat, turtle testing resembles IDW. The humor resembles the more comedic aspect of the turtle cartoons. The man in the shadows resembles the new nick show Saki. I just have a hard time wondering why people who hate this movie keep running from this movie having any source material. I can see why some people hate it, because they want a more grounded movie that resembles what they feel is cooler in their respected opinion. But why keep pushing the notion of this movie not having any source material?

There has and will continue to Be plenty of evidence to support that this movie IS not What PLenty have already judged it as,

again sam everything you said and anything that looks like connection to IDW right now is and until the movie comes will be speculation NOT fact
until someone comes in and says "yo, we borrowed heavily from IDW"
its all speculation
not concrete evidence
but it would not surprise me if they are just happy accidents since Bay and Co love militarizing their projects
i mean look af TF4 one of the main key parts is the humanoid building of a transformers for war

Yup Kevin pretty much say hey guy's this movie taken inspiration from all previous version and bays movie is just a happy accident lol Ok sorry. And sorry but some stuff has been confirm via piecing together evidence like "shredder" have Japanese ties, martial arts, title staying put as turtles it out there it's been proven if you don't want to accept it that's on you you're just lying to your self.
And transformers has next to now connection bay has sister they didn't use any source for their movies but Tmnt has by countless people

There is plenty out proof that there is more to this movie then the things that people complain about and there mounting Evidence this movie will be a very good movie is there though? The scene with sachs talking to that guy shows that there maybe more going on then just the bare minimum of what we know but what it is, what it means, and if it'll change anybodys opinion is very much up in the air. Fact is the things people don't like are pretty substantial things that appear to be pretty big shake ups to the characters and their world as we've known it and in effect may remove what makes them like it in the first place. That in itself is big enough to put some people off of it. Now maybe they did pull inspiration from other versions besides the fred wolf show (and that's a big maybe) but that still doesn't change how removed the final product looks to be compared to every other turtle universe. That's not to say that change is bad. I've got no problem with change if I think its an improvement or adds anything worthwhile but that's not what this looks like to me and i don't see including references to stuff I do like changing that. It'll more likely just make me wish I was reading or watching one of those instead.

There are plenty of shots in the trailer and leaked info that hints at IDW. I have been saying that from the beginning. That being said, there is no proof that they actually took those elements from IDW. If they made a statement saying that everything in this movie was taken from different incarnations, then yes. However, they said they borrowed from different incarnations and made changes. So even though the turtles seem to be created in a lab in this one, doesn't mean it follows the IDW storyline. Now personally, I believe they borrowed heavily from IDW but that's just my speculation. Could be a coincidence. After all, movies do the whole "created in a lab" twist all the time these days. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a good example of how they changed the original origin to have the Apes be genetically created in a lab. It's this generations nuclear blast scenario.

Where in any of my part did I state speculation as fact. Fact is shredder has Japanese toes some how some way do we know the level in which he is involved in Japanese culture no. We now know for a fact that there will be substantial martial art from them say there will be to the trailers to the bts nick shot thatsa fact you can keep saying it's not proof but it is.

As for idw influences think it might begin and end with splinter and the turtles being lab animals.
From the descpriction of the origin it doesn't sound like reincarnation will be involved. At least not in a spirtual sense anyway. From the sound of it it if splinter ends up being yoshi it will probably be because he was shot up with his dna and not because he was a man in a past life.
