These sound like casual movie-goers though, people who won't know about changes to the lore and history like we do.
For example if there is no Hamato Yoshi in this movie, those people won't notice or care.

I'm just gonna echo what someone else said in that, while I'm sure it's not horrible, people whose entire summation of any movie are words like "badass", "wicked" and "dope", with little to no extrapolation, have no credibility with me and I put zero stock in what they say. :P
Sounds exactly like I thought it would be, frankly. Which isn't entirely to my taste but I can get why other people are gonna love it.

I'unno, sounds like if you like CGI more than plot, you'll love it. If you genuinely don't care about SFX, it sounds like it's mediocre. The story sounds really butchered from what people are saying. :ohwell:
I mean... Evil Superman vs. Clark in the junkyard was amazing... but Superman III was still a terrible movie. The few uplifting things couldn't save it as a whole. Now, this doesn't sound anywhere near that level - I mean, they'd have to seriously be trying to make a bad movie for that to happen - but it does sound like another one of those movies where they plotted the fight scenes first and just scribbled together a story to link them together. It sounds like a lot of things I enjoy about the general TMNT mythology have been minimized or wiped out. And it doesn't sound like it was replaced with anything better. "Different' isn't better, just for being different. I know some people think it is, but I disagree. "We don't need Hamato Yoshi." Really? :ohwell:
I don't know, I'll see it eventually. Just really kinda bummed out. The wife's pretty pissed, so I think the chance of seeing it in theaters just went from slim to "hello no". Eh, DVDs are cheaper anyways.

I guessed the movie would get some praise. Since the writers for the movie participated in numerous critically acclaimed movies. The creative part is definitely the one suffering since that department is controlled by Micheal Bay and Jonathan Liebesman who are very similar in how they do their work.

If you ignore a lot of what the TV shows actual plots are and how Mikey looks like, you should be fine. Kind of like what I'm sure Transformers fans did or tried to do with those live action flicks
Meh, I'll give the film a try if. I actually did enjoy the first live action film of Transformers. Maybe the new films will improve as the series goes on, I'd like to think they can focus either on the entire group or each turtle later on down the road.

Looks like the movie is feather light on story and heavy on action, and as I can't stand the design choices done for the Turtles, Shredder, Splinter and the Foot. I'll probably get little to none enjoyment out of it, maybe with the turtles interaction and if I can spot some actual martial arts technologies and not just performance arts.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for the skeptics that changed their mind after seeing the movie. It shows they are very honest and forgiving!

Twitter and Facebook are full of f*cking morons, so no, I purposely don't pay attention to that sh*t. I barely even touch my FB unless I'm being booked for a show. It's stupid. It's a long-established fact that, in general, I f*cking hate the internet. Call that "living under a rock" if you want, I have a lot better things to do. I spend too much time on this place as it is, this forum is 9/10s my internet "home" or whatever, I barely go anywhere else online. How some of you find time to poke around every random corner of the internet is beyond me.
So, in short, f*ck those people and what they think, because I care less about what a bunch of life-losers who have nothing better to do than post "funny" cat pictures and videos and sh*t all day think or say. I care even less if, by some bizarre accident, any of their opinions happen to match mine. If they want spend their days trying to over-dramatically hyperbolize how bad OR good something is, especially something as pointless in the grand scheme of the universe as a goddamn movie, ANY movie, then they need to take their mouth-breathing, basement-dwelling asses outside and say hello to the sun.
Kindly don't lump me in with those people, okay? They're worthless human beings taking up valuable oxygen, and all they do is waste space. That "OMG u guyz Michael Bay sux" sh*t is their hang-up, not mine. Twitter. Facebook. Bunch of f*cking morons with nothing to do, shouting "Pay attention to me!" is all that sh*t is. There's a reason none of these people had a "voice" or a "forum" before the internet: They're nobody. If they had anything important to say, they'd work their way into a position in life where people would pay them for their opinions, now wouldn't they?
Let 'em have their stupid opinions. They don't mean nothin'. Why should you even care? I have nothing but disdain for people who 1. Live and die by social media, and 2. Put absolutely any stock in what people say on it.

Yeah, kinda, if only because a lot of people have given valid reasons and some other people refuse to accept that they are, indeed, "valid". So, since what constitutes "valid criticism" is pretty fluid around here, it's still pretty close to just being, "If you don't like it, you're stupid".
*I* got what you meant, but still.

As much as I HATED the nostrils at first, there really is no way about doing a 'realistic' looking turtle without them. And they do seem to be toned down since the first pics. So I have come to accept them. I really do think Out Of The Shaddows Game while not needing them intentionally put them in to ease fans into the new designs for the movie and for the majority it seems to have worked.
What I still HATE with passion are the human lips, they are not needed for any other reason but to give face time to the actors....And I don't believe the whole emotion thing either, plenty of other 'creatures' have displayed more than enough emotion without them. Also, this Splinter is clearly more creature than human. I will say they have toned them down 'majorly' since the first reveal of them but it is something I will have to take with a grain of salt.
I am still on the fence to whether I want to fork out $20 dollars plus to see this movie rather than hire it on dvd for $7 in 6 months but I'm a sucker for action movies on the big screen and what I've seen looks pretty cool action wise so I'm gradually warming to this 'interpretation'. Reading the other post it seems there will be no where near as much depth as the first one. But I still have hope it will be close to the experience I had as a kid watching the first 2 on the big screen.
I just hope they handle the characters with some depth & specificity other than stereotypes and Shredder doesn't end up being one dimensional like Megatron was.
Anyway, here's hoping...

The OOTS Turtles actually strike a pretty good balance. The nostrils are pretty small and subtle, and they keep the iconic wide/big mouths and the designs and proportions are pretty intact and appealing. They're not my favourite TMNT look or anything, but they're not bad, and I think they'd look a lot better in a movie than what we got.

100% agreed. I've been saying this for ages. The best VFX artists make inhuman characters look real and emote well all the time. That whole "we had to do them this way" excuse doesn't fly.

You almost must take into account how bad they expect it to be when going in. If you have super bad expectations about a movie, the film itself just being watching will be "good".

Same as any movies, even Marvel, is marketed towards general audience not just fans. Your blatant hatred is obvious.

Yea, I think it looks fine and the noses look fine. I don't know what people are still complaining about. They look like ninja turtles just a little more realistic. Real turtles have nostrils so why wouldn't a mutant turtle? They have to be able to breathe, don't they? I also think the lips are more practical. You can't have realistic looking characters talking without any lips. It's just going to look like a puppet.

Yep, it's really stupid, but it was entertaining. The crowd at the screening seemed to love it though.

We should care, unless it's a lie: they just stated it's a feedback from the fans. They made this article to suggest something like: "look, we know, most of you has bad opinion about this movie already, but the true fans actually suprised by how good it is, instead"
If it's not the case...

It's not that blatant actually, more like scepticism, and I'm not really talkin about the movie even, but about PD and the hype-machine, and how some of those paid reviews actually work, because yes, there are things like that out there.
Besides, even if it were pure superevil blatant hatred, I don't think I could take it to any place better, then the thread about discussing opinions on the movie. (because it's an opinion, about the movie...)

That seems to suggest that it's an indisputable fact that this movie is great and that the people who see and don't like it are being dishonest and unforgiving.
I think people have forgotten how to discuss opinion. Nowadays, it's all about making vague, non-descript, non-credible blanket statements, such as "it's bad ass" or "it sucks" followed by no examples, no elaborations whatsoever, and if anyone disagrees with you, they're an "idiot" and must be destroyed.

If that was directed toward me: No, I mean publishing a column about how the fanbase loves the movie based on four twitter posts is kind of... You know, it's not really journalism.
And I still wonder, if it's one of those (we need good press before the release!) paid articles.

Well, by the standards of today, sadly, yeah, that's totally "journalism" these days. :ohwell:
Cracked has like 87 articles on "BS News Stories That Fooled The Mainstream Media" or whatever in the past two years. Thanks to the f*cking internet, "journalism" is as easy as skimming wikipedia or doing a copy/paste from IGN or Ain't It Cool News.
A dozen people saying on twitter or FB that anything is true automatically makes it so, these days. As someone who studied journalism (back in the stone age when the internet was about a year old), it's pretty shameful. But hey, that's life in the digital age.
Movie still might end up doing alright, but yeah, that's not really "reporting" on their part, you're right. As for whether the reviews were paid, we'll never know. That's definitely something that happens, a LOT, but who knows if that's the case this time. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're just enthusiastic. Who knows.

Yup, that's what I'm saying. I'm not even that much informed about the US media, but at my country a good tons of articles are just republished reddit/twitter posts. It's even better when the original article is in english, and the translated end product is something else then the original was...

I'm not that well informed about the movie industry, but I know that video game industry has that all the time. People fired from jobs for giving negative reviews, reviewers getting presents, like tablets before release, reviewer sites being unable to give proper reviews to AAA stuff, because the fear of loosing the opportunity of getting review copies in the future, etc...
I think Movie industry is bigger than VG insdustry, there are more money involved (basically it's one of the exports of the US), and probably a lot more lobby. I'd honestly be suprised if they wouldn't own lot of those reviewers.
Now about the Movie itself, it still might be good enough, I haven't seen it, I will watch it, and hopefully the turtle-redesigns and the brostep won't disturb me that much to not to enjoy it.
Still, this thread is not about the movie, but about "5 people saying on twitter the movie was good". That's kinda hilarious choice of topic. :)

A video game mag I used to read used to get ads pulled all the time for publishing mediocre reviews. For example, companies would give them sneak peeks, demos, interviews, all that stuff, advance copies of the game... then, if it was bad, they'd give it a bad review, and the publishers would be all "What the hell?" There'd be, at the least, an unspoken arrangement of, "We're giving you access to all this, so... yeah, one hand washes the other, right?" Then, an unbiased review would be seen as "breaking" that arrangement, they'd get all pissy, and pull their ads and not cooperate with the magazine anymore. The editors would be like, "Just because you gave us all this stuff doesn't mean we owe you anything, the game was bad and we said so, period." I know for a fact some less scrupulous mags and websites gladly take payola from the bigger companies, that's nothing new.
And it definitely happens in movies. I remember Brett Ratner throwing a hissy fit because he was buttering up to Harry Knowles from Ain't It Cool, and then Knowles said on his site that the Superman script Abrams was going to be directing was garbage (which it was). Ratner was all, "Man, I did that guy so many f*cking favors," and it's like, "Yeeeaaaah, that's also kind of called bribery, isn't it?" Not exactly something to brag about.
I'unno, it's business. Kind of one of those things everyone knows happens, but they don't want to admit would ever happen with their movie, gosh no. As you said, it's a billion-dollar industry, of course they have people who are paid to generate buzz. Is it happening with TMNT? Who can say for sure? To be fair, though, if the movie's good, it'll be good with or without paid reviews and will get its own good reviews, anyway. Would it be unthinkable for them to pass a few bucks around to get the ball rolling first, though? Nah.

I'm not going to argue with that, but remember that Internet stupidity goes both ways. You're just as likely to see someone make an utterly retarded post against something new on any number of social media sites. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Twitter is open-source. People can troll a tag and use it for their own agenda all they want, so there's not grounds to think that, say, every bit of positive press this is getting there is from agents of Platinum Dunes.

I'm glad it's pleasantly surprising some people after all the stuff the media instigated over the last year. I am. People who are looking forward to it should be getting some good news by now. Good for them. :)
I just can't get over, though, how some people have an issue with other people wanting and expecting more out of movies than cartoons. And this isn't a hot at anyone, just thinking out loud, y'know? Stuff I like in one, I don't necessarily like in the other. Some things don't translate well. For me, it's all about the story of a film, and some people who have seen it have admitted that the story is weak, thus, the action can be stellar, but it's not going to entice me to buy a ticket when I can see it on DVD for far less total money spent inside 4-5 months.
I'll see it soon enough. I want to see the action scenes. That's mostly all I think looks decent. Others are the opposite way with movies in general, and hey, that's fine. What anyone spends their money on is their prerogative. I'm used to that. It's like in video games, I like lots of games with long, drawn out stories and lots of cutscenes, sometimes. Other people just want to mash buttons and don't think games need a story at all. Hey man, whatever floats your boat.
Point being, games or movies, one person's "Day-One Purchase" is another person's "Weekend Rental", and hey, that should be okay. 'Nah'mean?

You're right.
I wanted depth and heart and tempestuous skies and a moody city lit by cab lights and police sirens.
But it's not going to happen.
Even the fan base itself is massively divided. If they give us something Mirage-esque, the OT fans would be upset and if they give us OT, the Mirage fans will be upset. Striking the right balance is difficult.
And given that to get the numbers they need to appeal to the general populous, neither polarity of the fan base is going to get what they want. But hopefully as fans of varying preferences we may get something we can broadly enjoy that ticks a few of our respective boxes.
There will be good reviews and bad reviews. For non fans there may be a nostalgia element but even if they made the most commercial turtles film possible there will always be some people who take one look and deem it completely absurd.
I just got back from an advanced screening and i thought the movie was great. Lots of action, good humor. Shredder and karai were mirror of their roles in the nick cartoon. It was a great enjoyable film set in a modern time with reference to comic characters and movies. Loved it.

Seriously. Character comes first. If you deliver the spectacle but also include really well-written, emotionally genuine character work, there's no reason a new TMNT movie couldn't be a big hit. The most successful comic movies these days do just that.

You sure? Most of the complaints I heard was that this movie might too dark or just another Christopher Nolan ripoff. It's one of those reasons that people thought that movie was going to turn out to be godawful. While everyone was dreading the first few trailers which portrayed a rather dark tone, I was loving it. Which is why I got a bit disappointed to find out later that the film was was in actuality, an action/comedy.

I don't think people were expecting a The Dark Knight or The Punisher kind of tone, but I think they were hoping for along the lines of X-Men or Kick Ass, where it has it's comedy and playfulness, but when it needs to be, it's serious and there are consequences when the stakes are high.

Yeah that's what I was hoping for as well. Something with a comedic tone that could still have moments where sh*t gets real so to speak. That's the perfect tone for a tmnt film imo. What I was talking about was all the comments I remember seeing of people saying they think this is going to be the darkest tmnt movie ever. I just could never see where they got that idea from. The character designs looked like clear evidence we wouldn't be getting that. Once I saw turtles rocking sunglasses and puka shell beads I was in doubt it was even going to take itself seriously

pretty sad if you can't go to the movies because your wife or significant other doesn't like it.
safe to say she wears the pants in the relationship.
Or maybe it's her car, ever think of that? Or the general idea that people who are married are supposed to do things as a couple? I once got screamed at for going to a strip club without her, NOT because I went, but because I went without her. Don't presume how people's relationships work.
And she's pissed at the movie, for what it's worth. Hates everything she's seen and changes the channel when the trailers come on. Willing to see it on DVD but doesn't want to see it in theaters. I might try and pull a power play and force the issue, but it's not worth it. It's just a movie.

Seriously, the turtles have been mutated into humanoid form. Humans have nostrils so even if turtles didn't already have nostrils, they would have them after being mutated. Seems like a very small nitpick if you ask me. You won't even notice them once they start kicking some shell. And of all the things that are wrong with this movie, why focus on nostrils?

Don't bother lol.. I've posted so many pictures of turtles just to get shot back down with a million desperate reasons as to why these turtles shouldn't have them. Even the 300 VFX artists had no idea what they were doing.. if only they came here first.
I also find it absolutely hilarious that just bc a few Critics have some bad things to say about this movie.. some are acting like it's going to be a total failure
Everyone knew what the story was gonna be with the critics. This movie will make plenty of money.. and it will have a sequel... and then before ya know well all be back here singing Kumbayah to each other gearing up for round two! So... cheer up buttercups

I felt like they notably changed Mikey after negative reaction to the "just a mask" and the final product looks a lot like I initially was hoping to see. Less emphasized nose (widened them a bit) and smoothed the color contrast on the lips. I can handle the faces. Still not crazy about their clothing design overall, but that can change from film to film, really.
I still don't like the plastron and lack of the side bridge, though.
All that said, however, I agree with you. Raphael looked most traditional in early glimpses, but he turned out my least favorite because of his size, face design, and I don't like the full head cover.

I love how everyone clowns the genuinely clever Michelangelo mask gag and dies laughing at every Marvel movie one-liner when you can see 90% of them coming from a mile away. I enjoyed the Avengers but you have to admit it was a little overrated. Am I the only one who'd like to see a little more Tony Stark/Iron Man and a lot less RDJ "Vince Vaughn-ing" his way through all these movies??? Dude doesn't even bother acting anymore. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't watch superhero/comic book movies looking for improv comedy. Marvel studios has gone waaaaay too far with that ****.
...But I digress. Of course this movie is exceeding fans' expectations, genius!!! That shouldn't surprise anyone when you consider how badly brain-dead half-wit fanboys were bashing the movie Before It Even Began Production!! A lot of these butt-hurt clowns were so-called "purists" and "die-hard tmnt fans" whose knowledge of the franchise began/ended with the OT, toys, and the original movie trilogy!! I say ignore the haters, know-it-alls, and overly nostalgiac hipster douchebags riding the "Michael Bay's involved, so it sucks" bandwagon!! Lighten up and give the movie a chance! Be reasonable, everybody. Judging by the reviews, it won't be the second coming, nor will it be the Holocaust. Worst case scenario, it'll be like the previous movies, except a lot edgier in terms of action and comedy. Sure, that ain't exactly what I wanted, but we've seen worse and I'll take it for what it is.

I agree that Marvel is starting to get a bit formulaic and some of the bantering is even starting to get old because most of it doesn't seem to lend much to the story.
A lot of people were too caught off guard by the new looks and Michael Bays name to even notice how clever the mask gag was and how it totally fit Mikeys personality. Wah these aren't my turtles. No **** its a new rendition and probably not made for you then.

I just wanted to step in since a close friend had to tell me that (which is, ugh)...plus he had had to tell me that Raph doesn't do martial arts but just 'Hulk-stuff' and that he's pretty much a pussy (gets his ass handed to him by the Shredder) with no bad-ass scenes to call his own except stuff like 'raph killing the humvee' scene...
So...great....good luck with that, folks. Can't help if I'd like Raphael as a bad-ass martial artist and not a 'Hulk' wannabe. Oh well, again good luck with that folks. Funny enough, for all the action they've shown, I'm still waiting on the Raid style fights we were promised by Eastman...then again, the showdown with Shredder at the end is shaping up to be something else. Hopefully it'll surprise us both, but either way, there's always a sequel, lol :D

Such a flamebait from some people here, it's not even funny. Or rather it is funny, seeing how those people were registered on the forum just yet. While I don't believe in conspiracies (human stupidity is the reason for many odd things) certain events around this movie suggest that it maybe not...so simple here.
If there is someone behind this, I guess, they threw all their resources to bash people who dislike movie. I doubt it will improve situation, because if movie is **** - it will stay **** and no amount of plants would be able to salvage it.
But I guess, their target maybe not even sway the opinion of people, but to present everyone who dislike movie as "braindead half-wit fanboys" to descredit them and make general audience think that another Bay-o-rama will worth spent money. At least until word of mouth will kill it, if it is really bad movie.

What about when they use the breathing masks to the mouth instead of the nose when they are in space? And in this movie, didn't they hide under water too for a bit? Either way, so they have nostrils, just make them small like they have been for the past 30 years. Doesn't matter, this movie looks like it's going to flop, so the chance of us seeing the fugly faces with the shrek noses again is slim to none.
