If he fails to "captivate" the audience with his interpretation of TMNT than which director would you like to take over the reigns of the franchise?

Good pick. At bare minimum, the Turtles would be done with animatronic suits and practical effects again and they'd look incredible.

I've been saying this for years. I might have hated Pacific Rim, but Del Toro knows his way with puppetry and could sincerely bring the TMNT vibe that Eastman and Laird were going for to life.

Then I have no idea who that would be. I'm not sure if I want some unknown, who will be just a yes man, I want someone with some clout, and likes CBM for what they are, to tackle this property.
Matthew Vaughn has done 2 comic book movies that are excellent.
Maybe the Russo brothers (but they still might not have the clout to combat the studio heads from interfering)
Tim Burton (as long as he doesn't stick Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter to play Casey Jones and April O Neil)
Zach Snyder (Watchmen had pretty great style, just a sucky story. A good script write could clear that up.)

He would have been a great choice...but I don't want him. Not unless they reboot again. They won't go back to practical suits. We're 'stuck' with these versions for this iteration.
For a sequel, if J.L doesn't return (I'm sure he will though) my pick would be Peter Berg.

What his niche is (for me anyway) he's great at building suspense, thrillers and drama. This is definitely his strength. The drama of all of the politicians being taken out in TDK, the investigation leading up to the attack on Gotham in TDKR, are all edge of your seat thrillers. Everything else though. Not bad, but not great either.

It's quickly become a cliche answer, but I can't think of anyone but Del Toro off the top of my head. I guess he has a good pedigree for making freaky stuff look great on film so that's why everyone's so high on him for this.
And I'll agree with someone else, I like Nolan's films in general but he can't do fight scenes very well at all. I don't think I liked anything from Cameron since T2, either. There's a lot of guys I like who would be just lousy with this particular franchise.

It's like it was just done to prove, "We can put literally anything on this screen, and as long as it's TMNT, you will sit still and love it."
Obviously not a make-or-break scene as a whole, but seems to pretty much sum up the movie in a nutshell. I kept waiting for the "funny part", and there wasn't one. :ohwell:

Agreed with the prevailing opinion on both Nolan and Burton. In either case, it'd be too self-serious, and in Burton's case, too weird. Dude cannot resist putting too much of himself into all of his movies. The last good "licensed character" movie he made was "Batman", and that was 1989. He's great at his own thing. He is bad with other people's toys, because he breaks them. Let him do his own thing, forever. He's even said how much he hates doing licensed films because of how much the studio "interferes", so he'd probably pooch the job anyway.
