Not sure if this is thread worthy, but what the hey...

http://popwatch.ew.com/2014/08/08/the-37-worst-things-the-ninja-turtles-franchise-has-ever-created/

Entertainment Weekly writers think they know everything.

The article is about as snarky snot as you would expect. It's clearly someone who knows a lot about the franchise but just wanted to write a negative piece for a high-profile site.

The user comments pretty much universally pan the piece's author, so I guess that's justice.

Why do I even click on these crap articles that get featured on the Yahoo! homepage?

It started out with a few of the more hated, expected parts of the franchise... then it got to some of the more well-loved and I was baffled. By the end it literally is saying TMNT as a whole is crap and it seems like it was literally written to piss people off and nothing else. If that was the intent, it did its job. Seriously, it doesn't even work as satire.

Even if the article were on something I hated, it's super lazy. Just the fact that someone got paid to write it bothers me.

Click bait article is click bait.

I can't say i'm not glad the thing is getting, pardon the pun, shredded. Deserves it. As I've said once before:

Eh, poor attempt at being snarky, not worth being mad at. But hey, they succeeded in finding at least one thing to peeve off each sort of fan. Must have been a slow new day. (To think someone prob got paid to come up with that, and start grasping at straws apparently.)

At least Cracked's article today was about creepy TMNT fanart. Even if they're trash they're still entertaining.

Imagine if nobody commented. Then it'd be even better cause people only write like this for the attention and to get fans angry.

Don't feed the trolls.

Someone who states Donatello's weapon as useless clearly knows nothing about being a warrior. The warrior is the threat, not the weapon.

Read this earlier today. I couldn't believe this guy put Raphael and Shredder on this list.

I was with him on a lot of his points until he said the bow staff was useless and Raphael is a pointless character.

I still don't understand why nobody is bothered by the excessive pointing by the characters in 2007's TMNT. It is such a small thing to gripe about but it is so frustratingly stupid to see Raphael point at everyone while he speaks. Then Leonardo does it to him on the roof. I feel crazy that it bugs me so much but I don't understand why the animators felt the need to put it in the movie.

Nr 11 and 12 is all I need to know the writer of that article is full of ****.

You don't stab people with a Sai, it's not a dagger or a knife or a bladed weapon at all, it's a truncheon weapon. And the Bo is a extremely dangerous weapon that can crush your knee caps and break your skull, it's not a simple broom handle, it's hard oak.

You're absolutely right. The guy is a sanctimonious attention-seeker.

(Still, knowing that I still gotta comment)

What's all that about Shredder's helmet?? Has the guy never seen a samurai helmet before? Darth Vader hardly invented the look.

lmao not gonna lie, to some very small extent I agree with him about Raphael. It baffles me how he's been the most popular.

But the only criticisms he had of Donnie were "his staff is useless" [literally an uneducated opinion] and that "he wears purple"...

Haha. Donnie for best turtle indeed. Not even that guy could slam him.

Nice troll article. Best moment when he says that Shredder's helmet is a copy of Darth Vader's.
Cuz you know, Darth Vader was the first one ever use a samurai helmet in the whole world, and he was such bad and generally hated character, it's a shame to copy anything from him design...

Didn't Lucas himself say Vader's mask is a mix of Norse and Samurai?

Yea, I think. Even if he didn't said, it's kinda obvious. :)

And btw Vader's idea came directly from Doctor Doom. It's wierd when someone starts to look at Star Wars as "the big originator". Tho I guess spaceship design/lightsabers were unique, and even if not, they had a huge impact on pop culture.

Wikipedia article on the Kabuto, or traditional Japanese helmet. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabuto)

And I'm sure elaborate helmets have been around since antiquity.

I just hate that its click bait courtesy of a big name entertainment news outlet. The state of professional journalism really is on the downgrade.

Some guys who don't know much about the turtles and just want people to click on their website have dared to talk smack about them? Oh noes!

Who cares, seriously? Don't waste your time with such people.

You never noticed the excessive pointing in that movie? Watch it again every time Raphael gets angry and delivers a line to Leo blaming him for leaving he points. He points at Donny early on in the movie as well. It is like the animators felt having Raph point his finger at everyone would make him more menacing. It is a bit distracting.

I can't seem to get a good photo of it online.

watch this scene though and you will see that they point at each other a lot.

It gets annoying for me personally. That movie had potential but they never ran with it.

I'm actually gonna take some heat here and say I actually agree with a big chunk of it, generally speaking, but don't see the point of writing a whole big list/article about it, other than the movie just dropped and someone was looking for some attention. Yeah, a very large deal of TMNT is pretty dumb. Eh. No more or less than anything else.

"Something a middle-aged executive would think kids would think is 'cool'", however, is dead-on. Almost everything about the franchise comes off as something 40-year-olds in suits explicitly decided to market to kids as "hip", in that very phony and out-of-touch kind of way. Much as I love the franchise, I'll agree with that part. The new movie reeks of that, from everything I've seen.

I don't see the need of a whole article, though. Like I said, someone was just looking to piggyback on the movie opening. Eh.

That's a lot of "hip" kids media though. It's all focus grouped and ran by a board of stuffy old guys in suits. TMNT might just be one of the worst offenders.

Now I'll grant that the Turtles' various incarnations have ever mirrored the way actual kids/teens talk, but how many of us could argue that the Turtles influence has actually shaped much of the words and mannerisms we use?

After all, a true standard of coolness is not how well someone conforms to their environment, but in how one sets trends that others seek to follow.
