View Full Version : What if Casey Jones is black in the sequel?

Given this movie almost changed Shredder to a white man, and Marvel movies like Avengers changing Nick Fury to Samuel L Jackson, or the Human Torch from the new rebooted Fantastic Four turned into black instead of his white self that he's been for 70 years...its possible.

What if Casey Jones was cast as a black actor? Is the world ready for a black Casey Jones?

Honestly Casey being black would fit his character, and while I am not a fan of race changes to established characters, this wouldn't bother me nearly as much as Shredder being white, (obviously the Foot are from Japan, Shredder needs to be Asian and has an Asian name)

Would it be a good actor (for example, I enjoy Michael B. Jordan who was in Chronicle, and I enjoyed Anthony Mackie in Captain America: The Winter Soldier)? Or would it be some bad actor shoe-horned like the RZA or 50 Cent or such...

If it was a good actor, then yeah I'd be fine.

Wouldn't bother me none. I once had a thought where he was a black man, and he had a daughter that was about 10, and she would be Angel, played by a black girl. TMNT seems to miss the boat when it comes to minorities sometimes.

I don't see where you get that since Baxter is black in every incarnation but one, and Bebop is black.

As a kid growing up in the early 90s when every race had to be accounted for like in the BK Kids club/Captain Planet etc. I've always liked race variety but I hate it when they change the race of established characters; even when it works really well like Kingpin in Daredevil or Perry in MoS, it still bothers me that they changed the race. I'm ok when they make new characters of different race though like Jon Stewart being GL since it's a new GL and not Hal Jordan.

I guess Casey Jones being black would be ok for the character and it could work, but it would still bother me. But I'd prefer a new black vigilante taking Casey jone's role instead of a race change. This movie already messed up Thompson by making him a woman and black. I think I'd actually be more ok with April being black counting in the original comics she was likely meant to be black.

More than anything I think the turtles should be more racially diverse. NYC is a total melting pot, it'd be dope to have like a puerto rican Mikey, black Raph, asian Leo, & white Donnie. At least I think so. Ya know, with respect to voice actors & whatnot.

Right, they are turtles...not humans. That means they can sound like anybody since they have No Actual/Exact Race. So why would they have the voice of a 'white/Caucasian' when, like you said, they are Turtles...they can sound like anybody.

You could easily ask 'why does Mikey sound more Surfer-like in some incarnations, f he lives in New York'

I already stated Casey could be black in the sequel in one of the other Casey Jones threads.

Who cares about race anymore. Only racists care. I was hoping April was Zoe Saldana when the movie was announced.

I don't know if these guys who are in Marvel movies are allowed to cross over into other super hero movies. Anthony Mackie is a good choice, but I doubt he can be Falcon and Casey.

I think Common could pull it off. Mos Def, Michael K. Williams, but he's too old. They should get a no name for Casey.

I just have this sickening feeling we're going to get Brian Austin Green...

But there's no way of portraying those races in turtles without seeming racist to the oversensitive types. They'd all have to have stereotypical accents and walk around with flags on their shells or some sh*t. And what would it bring it to their characters besides their voices, anyway?

How does Casey being black not fit his character?

A guy who means well and wants to clean up his neighborhood of street gangs and petty thugs? And does after them wearing a mask and hitting them with baseball bats and hockey sticks?

I'm sure they made some kind of a movie where a black guy does something similar. Probably one of those movies that casts rappers as stars or something.

I have to agree. Remember that despite being New Yorkers they are also all Turtles raised by the same parent. THAT'S what would inform their personalities. If anything they'd all be different stripes of 2nd generation Japanese raised by an immigrant from Japan.

To the point of Casey....sure. All I care about is if the actor can do the job and if they can BE Casey, and Casey's a crazy vigilante armed with sports equipment...could be any race, really.

You're both right I suppose, but there's also the fact that Mikey always sounds decidedly west-coast. & one could argue that's due to him hearing that sort of thing all the time, maybe in his favorite movies, so their surroundings & pop culture exposure would influence their upbringing. Yeah, more than anything it makes sense they'd sound semi-Japanese, having been raised by Splinter, but I don't think it'd be ridiculous for them to sound like any other kinda folk in the city, considering they'd be hearing it through the gutter every day.

Maybe they could use an amalgamation of different slang to kind of play to the melting pot of NY...but it'd be hard to do that without delving into stereotypes.
So at first you rant about "whitewashed" Shredder, and now you want a "blackwashed" Casey..

There's a scale....Shredder started as a minority and was turned white. Shredder's nationality is key to his character. Casey started out as "base wasp" (for lack of a better term). His being white doesn't change or inform his character....he just happens to be white. Making him another nationality doesn't take from his character, where as taking Shredder's nationality does.

Why do some [people act like it was awesome to have Falcon as a black dude in the Cap America movie.... if Falcon was always black anyway?

As for Casey... whatever. This movie is damaged beyond repair. Sequels would only make it worse. I could care less if Vernon got hit by Mutagen and turned into Casey. Whatever. I give up on this new movie TMNT 'franchise'.

Casey Jones wouldn't be the best candidate to race change. You might face racist claims because you are demonstrating that only black people are deranged and angry while white men aren't. Well you would get that if you have good interpretation skeels. If you had poor interpretation skeels the indirect insult would go over your head.

Considering that April's race has changed and so has Baxter's, It wouldn't bother me.

I don't consider Eric Sacks being Shredder as changing the Shredders race because he wasn't and wouldn't be the true Shredder, just A Shredder.

Now, had William been playing Oroku Saki, I'd consider it a race change.

Welp, to be fair, if the movie was more faithful in regards to whatever you would then have people complaining about it being slavish to the source material that was used, or possibly. I do not mind the name oroku saki not being said, I do not mind that cause I know that that is shredder's real name. As for splinter learning from a book? I see nothing wrong with that, we folks learn stuff from books by observing them, it comes off as rational and realistic to me.

I know you're trying to get a rise out of people again but whatever.

I don't have a problem with slight changes to characters like changing their job per example(April going from a scientist to a reporter) but I'm against the idea of making big changes such as their ethnic origins. There was no need to make Baxter white in the FW series. Hell, he had a completely different personality in the comics, so might as well just given him a different name in the cartoon since he was pretty much a completely different character.

That being said, changing Casey's or April's ethnicity is nothing compared to changing Shredder's or Splinter's(when he's human, that is). As bad as the movie might be(haven't watched it still) I was relieved when I heard that Shredder wasn't going to be white after all. In fact, I'm surprised there wasn't a bigger uproar about it and accusations of racism against the people behind the movie.

That is insensitive racial stereotyping. Peeps don't like it when you is insensitive.
Making Michelangelo puerto rican means you believe in the stereotype that they are lazy and don't want to work.

Raphael being black is like saying all black people are angry and have criminal intent.

White Donnie is also insensitive 'cause you are specifically choosing the white race to represent someone who is academically superior.

Now none of this would be racist if you didn't choose the ones with the poor qualities to represent the other races.
So how is changing Casey Jones' race any more unorthodox?
It is unacceptable because it is racial stereotyping. Selectively picking a certain character to change their ethnicity because their personality represents a racial stereotype. That is racist no matter how much you try to justify it.

Now if Cybercubed suggested if they race change someone like April to black. I wouldn't care 'cause April breaks away from any racial stereotype because she is a strong, intellectual, independent....black woman. That don't need no man.

What you just said describing each race was racist. You actually see these races like that is racist. Everybody can be or do those things. Not a particular race. Yeah-no. You caused a stink about Bebop's race in the Nick forum when you thought he was going to be white and made a massive deal out of nothing and caused grief (when Bebop's race is totally irrelevant because he's been shown as white too in some media). Casey can be whatever colour, it doesn't matter. I don't get why there's even a thread about this. I doubt he'll be black in a sequel but if he is, I'd have no issue if he's well written and acted. Just, you can't really make a massive deal out of this when you almost blew a gasket because you assumed Bebop would be white in the Nick series, which he wasn't.

Some street thug black dude. lol. Even if he was the exact same character as white Casey, with the only change being in skin color.
The only reason I'd be against having a black dude as Casey is because I want to see casey with shoulder length black hair.

Get someone with long dreads, Kofi Kingston could play Casey Jones lol

What makes you think I had laziness, anger, & intelligence in mind, rather than personality, strength, & nerdiness? C'mon son.
All I am saying that is insensitive racial stereotyping. Stop trying to justify it.
What about Casey's character feed negative black stereotypes? You seem to be making assumptions. Nothing about Casey would necessarily change if you changed the amount of melanin in his skin.

And why is April filling what could be considered a "positive stereotype" any better?

I am not making assumptions. It is racist. The reason for Cybercubed suggestion is because a personality that is angry and poor fits the black people more then white. He wants to change the ethnicity so it fits racial stereotyping.

There is no such thing as a positive stereotype. I said it right in my comment why it was positive. April is a character that has excellent skills in computers and is strong willed, none of these traits are negative. Thus April breaks away from any stereotype which makes her a good character.

Cybercubed wants to change the ethnicity of characters to fit racial stereotypes, which is insensitive and offensive. I can't believe a mod is defending a offensive and insensitive suggestion.

.....Exactly. It's all assumption. It seems deliberate also. Me personally.. I cant stand this PC world we live in now were we all have to walk on egg shells. Even calling someone a " racist"
imo is the worst thing you could call someone. There is so much more to life than skin color.
I don't see ANY character traits with Casey that could be seen as " Black Stereotypes". That is absolutely ridiculous. Its reaching.

All I am saying that is insensitive racial stereotyping. Stop trying to justify it.

I am not making assumptions. It is racist.

You know.. it's people like you that keep people angry and divided. Why walk threw life seeing everything as being offensive and " racist"? But someone ALWAYS has to make EVERYTHING about race. RACE RACE RACE. Who cares.
If you are someone that is constantly accusing people of being racist and sees EVERYTHING threw a racial lens then that tells me more about you then it does about anything else.

That's one really strong vacuum you live in, to not know that Angry Black Man and Angry Black Woman are two very prevalent stereotypes in the US.

Let's look at Casey's history. Originally a sociopath who finally unhinges after watching too much crappy 80s television. Armed with sporting equipment, and donning a hockey mask, he assaults and batters those wot lurk in the alleys of New York City.

What about that says,
being black would fit his character... to you, Cyber?
And please, be specific.

The only one reading into it is you. Casey being black doesn't mean that he has to fit the "Angry Black Man" stereotype. It's ASSUMING as much that's racist.

And saying April would be great as a strong black woman..."because she doesn't need a man" plays into a stereotype in itself.

And with that as the starting premise I'm instantly reminded of the internet campaign to make Donald Glover the next Spider-man.

You can read his thoughts on the fallout that...well fell out here. (http://imgur.com/gallery/1hk7R)

I could very easily see a Casey Jones who lives in the basement of his widowed mother's apartment building. Maybe he tried to get to college on a hockey scholarship, maybe he didn't even try. Though now he's barely making ends meet by being a bouncer at a dive bar and getting room and board covered by being the building's handyman.

The neighborhood he's in is in that down place before gentrification starts to reabsorb it, and so there's a lot of gang activity. Maybe he's sick of the Stop and Frisk procedures that treat him like a criminal even though he isn't one. Maybe he had a friend gunned down after buying skittles and an Arizona Iced Tea. But something in him gets sick of waiting for the cops to do their jobs.

So he puts on a mask and does their job for them.

I don't know if I can buy this. I was raised by NY parents, my father was heavily influenced by his German heritage, but funny enough, I was born and raised in Florida, and people swear up and down that my accent sounds more Spanish than anything, and I don't have any Spanish in my recent blood. But, I grew up around Spanish friends, and maybe their way of talking rubbed off on me. Then of course, when I go back up to New York, relatives think my southern drawl is cute as heck. So, I have a southern drawl/Spanish kind of accent, despite my parents being from NY, the products of German and Italian immigrants.

The Turtles all were probably influenced to a degree, the TV the most. Donny would have a normal accent because of his work with electronics. Leo, more formal because of Splinter. Mikey more laid back because of the TV, and Raphael, I totally can buy the urban/Brooklyn accent due to him going top side more than the others.

Shredder's nationality is key to his character. Casey started out as "base wasp" (for lack of a better term). His being white doesn't change or inform his character....he just happens to be white. Making him another nationality doesn't take from his character, where as taking Shredder's nationality does.

I agree completely. Shredder being Japanese is important to his character.
I also feel that Baxter should be black like the original source material and considering that my perspective comes from the original black and white Mirage comics, I think that Zoey Seldana would have been absolutely amazing as April, because she's a great actress and I don't have a set perspective of her original character as being black OR white.
As for Casey, I'm not particularly invested one way or the other, as long as he has a strong, brotherly, love/hate, buddies till the end, and sometimes cuttingly hilarious relationship with Raph. That what has defined Casey for me character wise. That my 2 cents and I own it. :)

Just to summarize what we've learned so far today:

If you're Black, and you fight crime, you have an agenda, which is to promote the "liberal agenda" otherwise known as propaganda.

If you're white, and fight crime, you're a parody of a vigilante.

Nick Fury is black in the Ultimate comics... And modeled after Samuel L Jackson... So he doesn't really count. Movie Nick is black cause comics Nick is black.

I agree with whoever wants Casey to be the same. We don't need some black dude pretending to be Casey Jones. We also don't need 'random black dude shoved in there for the sake of putting a black dude in there'.

And also wtf with all this 'put black people into everything' jazz? I doubt they give two ***** wether or not Casey, Electro or Johnny Storm were white or black. If storm was casted by a white girl... There's be hell to pay... And the white comic book fans would be just as pissed as the black fans.

I just don't understand this sudden rash of race changing. I'm Mecican and I don't give a **** if the Avengers have a Mexican member and I won't raise a petition for April to be Latina. Can't someone just be a fan if a comic and cartoon and expect the big epic movie version to be similar enough?

I understand he's not a popular character, but he could be reinvented as a good character. Look at Secret of the Ooze, Keno worked fine as a character and he wasn't just an Asian Casey. I don't see a reason to make a character black when we have a perfectly good black character who could fill his role. You don't want more more black characters, you want white characters to be replaced with black versions of themselves. You want less white characters, I want more black characters that have unique history's.

As I said in a diffrent thread; Since we're borrowing so much from IDW for the turtles movies, let's do something radically diffrent! Instead of bringing in Casey Jones for the 1,000th time as the Turtles vigilante friend, why not take a page from IDW and bring Angel Bridge in as the vigilante hero Nobody? I think it might add a new dyanamic to the fights, and a new dynamic to the turtles's friendship with thier vigilante ally.

It'd add a heck of a lot more diversity to the movies, and not 'change' Casey Jones.

I personally do not want Casey to be black just for the sake of it. If the perfect actor for Casey turns out to be black, then go for it (like they did with Kingpin in the Daredevil movie) but doing it because they feel the need to ad diversity is what I don't want.

My pick for Casey is Aaron Paul. I think his voice is perfect for the character.

Also, I think that people who are actively looking for race representation are the racist. I'm not white and I don't care about race representation. I just want the comic/cartoon translated into film. If the comics are all white characters, blame the comic creators, not the filmakers that are adapting the comics.

Nick Fury being black most certainly counts as a race change, both in the comics and in the movies.

David Hasselhoff played the character years before Sam Jackson did, because in the Marvel Universe Fury is a white guy.

In the Ultimate Marvel Universe he's black. The current Marvel Movie continuity draws from the Ultimate books.

More than anything I think the turtles should be more racially diverse. NYC is a total melting pot, it'd be dope to have like a puerto rican Mikey, black Raph, asian Leo, & white Donnie. At least I think so. Ya know, with respect to voice actors & whatnot.

Why does Raph got to be the black one? Because he's angry? You saying all black people are hotheads? Huh? And why does Leo got to be Asian and Donnie white? You saying only white people can be smart enough to invent things and only Asians respect Asian culture and suck up to their senseis? Huh? HUH?

I think a black Casey would be interesting and not really a big change, as long as the actor stayed true to the essence of the character.

Except for the fact... that you know.... he's white.

And yes it is the comic creator fault. If the director wants to go for a faithful adaptation of a certain series, then he should stick with it...or go ahead and make his own story then.

Why is suddenly race something that is so easily dismissed and thrown away?

And why don't they ever put their money where their mouth is and make Superman black? Make Peter Parker Spiderman black. Make Steve Rogers Captain America black. Make Thor and Loki black. Make April black. Make Batman black. I mean why does the minor/sidekick/side characters get the race treatment but the main character or main hero gets away with being white still? Or just make a whole new superhero series of their own.

Hell, look at the Incredibles. A completely all-new original superhero movie (even though the powers were borrowed from other heroes). Why weren't THEY a black family? I doubt it would have changed their appeal. To this day people wish they made a sequel. Why aren't the Spy Kids black? Why wasn't Lucy a black woman?

The mantle of Spider-Man was taken by a black kid once. April was actually half-black in the comics, based on one of Kevin Eastman's exes. And Captain America is now black; Sam Wilson took over.

According to Eastman, she is.

And I didn't think it mattered if this was about new people versus Nick Fury-type situations. The character is essentially the same in name and overall appearance, upholding similar ideals and morals -- ya know, the essence of the role in question.

I knew it !! Somehow, subconsciously, I knew that I heard or read this somewhere. Thanks for sharing this little piece of trivia. Jessica Alba or Halle Berry would both make a great April, imo. :D

As for moving forward, why don't we insist on characters keeping their original race from the original source material and for newly created characters insist that the studios and talent agents follow the distribution table below in order to properly represent all races. (note : this is 5 years old but will suit our purposes)

World: 6.7 Billion

Whites:1.2 Billion =17%
Blacks:1 Billion=15%
Asians: 2.1 Billion=31%
Middle Easterners/Indians: 1.675 Billion= 25%
Native Americans/Mestizos: 250 Million= 4%
Others: 536 million= 8% (for actors we don't have a f'n clue where their mom or dad were born)

Benjamin Bratt and Lou Diamond Phillips apply for the same Western movie.
Casting Manager - hmm... have to keep the ratio to 4 percent. Ya ok, you're in.

Actually no April wasn't half-black in the comics at least according to Peter Laird, and the examples of Spider-Man and Captain America were other characters taking over the mantles they weren't race changed versions of existing characters.

Nope. That's why I specified Peter Parker and Steve Rogers. Miles Morales might be the Ultimate Spider-Man... but he is not Peter Parker. Hell, Miguel O' Hara and Ben Reilly weren't Peter Parker either. Sam Wilson is the new Captain America, but he is not Steve Rogers, anymore than Bucky was also not Steve Rogers when he took the mantle.

I'm not talking about the characters in themselves, not their superhero mantles. In both examples they either created a new character (Miles) or took an existing character (Falcon) to replace an established character. They didn't just go 'dur hur hur Steve Rogers was always black, Peter Parker is actually biracial'. They used different characters.

If you want to do that in a movie, then make new character or make movies about black (or whatever race you're hung up on) characters. Bring on a Storm solo movie. Make a Black Panther movie. Make a Luke Cage movie. Give Falcon a solo movie. Make a Static Shock movie. Make a (good) Steel movie. Make a Cyborg movie. Just do...something, instead of changing up what is established for the sake of change.

Also if one can't watch a movie/series without being all hung up and unable to relate because a member of their own race isn't being represented.... then maybe the movie is not for them. I've seen the Marvel movies and Nolan trilogy and what have you. Not once did the thought cross my mind that Batman should have been fighting Senor Joker-o or felt completely taken out of the movie cause Thor didn't have a big taste for tacos.

I mean, geez, you READ the comics and whatever the movies are based on. You KNOW what's coming. So why complain and demand Hollywood bend over backwards for you and switch races of the characters left and right for the hell of it.

And finally, I don't care if a certain race fits or doesn't fit the character. I pick up a comic and see a white Casey Jones, I kinda sorta expect a white Casey Jones on the big screen. Or were they racist when they cast Elias Koteas because they didn't choose a black dude instead?

Real quick, in regards to April's race:

Kevin Eastman claims she was mixed race.
Peter Laird claims she was white.
Just take a ****ing look at early-Mirage April for your answer. That is no white woman.

Creators need to create for diversity rather than retcon diversity. Some people are offended when others don't want their characters changed, but then disregard the offense that is felt by the people who love the established characters.

Create diversity, don't retcon it. Retconning diversity isn't an inclusionist tactic, it's an invasionist one. On the other hand, creating diversity adds to the culture. Don't change established characters. Create new ones.

Okay, at the time she was first written/drawn, she was a mixed race woman who was born normally like everyone else. Peter laterdecided to make her fully white, and brought in a stupid retcon involving Kirby's magic pencil that robbed her of being the turtles only fully normal anchor in reality. Can we all agree on that?

As a kid growing up in the early 90s when every race had to be accounted for like in the BK Kids club/Captain Planet etc. I've always liked race variety but I hate it when they change the race of established characters; even when it works really well like Kingpin in Daredevil or Perry in MoS, it still bothers me that they changed the race
Yeah I'm all for racial variety (coming from a guy in the colored group), but it would just kinda bother me Casey being African American. I'm sure it could work well if done right, but it would just be weird to see an established character that I'm so familiar with changed.

More than anything I think the turtles should be more racially diverse. NYC is a total melting pot, it'd be dope to have like a puerto rican Mikey, black Raph, asian Leo, & white Donnie. At least I think so. Ya know, with respect to voice actors & whatnot.
Eh, I don't know if that would work well. Like a few others said, it would be hard to do that without pulling stereotypes. I kinda like the turtles that we've been given already (particularly Steve Barron's TMNT- although the only turtle I'd replace Cory Feldman's voice with is Adam Carl's from TMNT II).

I like this. Subtle, but noticeable nonetheless.

I think there's more evidence for April being white than there is for her being black. Or at very least being light-skinned enough to pass for white.

Though honestly...it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other.
I mean, if I had the power over such things I'd have cast Jasika Nicole to play her in the new movie.

I'm more concerned about her having agency and a character arc of her own than I am about her ethnicity.

The April debate never ends.

Let's go to the source!

Kevin Eastman on April O'neil :

Originally created as an "Asian" character in Peter's notes, but named after an "African American" woman Kevin once knew (his ex-wife), the character of April O'Neil was introduced in issue #2, and would have a bunch of different "looks" throughout the TMNT history. (Artobiography, p32)

Laird said this:

As the co-creator of the character of April O'Neil, and as someone who has always imagined her as white, and very likely of Irish/Scottish/English ancestry, I was not at all "unsettled" by the depictions of her as such in the various adaptations. Kevin may have had a different view, and I can't speak for him, but that's the way I always saw her. As for the coloring of her skin in the color reprints of the MIrage comics, Kevin always had a lot more input on that end of our business than I did, and in fact I'm pretty sure he did the colors on the initial such reprinting from First Comics, the one in graphic novel form. Make of that what you will. (Peter Laird TMNT blog, Nov 22, 2013)

Also, who's the "BigBad" mentioned here:

There is a striking similarity between those two images.

But not when you compare the actress to this page:
http://nymonsters.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/tmnt-2-1984.jpg?w=441&h=745

I think everyone reads a different race into her face, because her face had no consistency. She looks like 5 different women in 5 different panels.

Also Mirage April, wasn't black in the book, as stated by the artist's themselves.
People got perms in the 80's, it was just something women did, even men.

http://cdn.guyism.com/wp-content/uploads/perm-tom_hanks.jpeg

But I can see how you could draw a similarity between those images.

What is interesting, if April was actually meant to be "Asian", and Stockman was black, Shredder and minions were Japanese...then the only "whites" in the first two books were the gang members, who at best were background, and might arguabley not even be white.

So TMNT is actually quite diverse, at least prior to the OT.

Plus fans flipped out over the idea of a white Shredder. Totally with you on this. Most mainstream franchise characters are from 50+ years ago when minority representation was generally much worse than it is now, and newer characters have a much harder time getting mainstream attention than the old standards. It's insane to even consider taking some of them "away".

Some good thought provoking ideas here.
I'm almost always of the belief that characters should remain the same race as they were originally created. I'm also pleased to see a lot more racial diversity in comics and cartoons.

After reading some of the above posts, and thinking on it further, I can see how a lot of people would have a fit over a non-white April. Since my biggest area of fandom is the Mirage comics from the 80s, I forget that the average movie go-er would be set on the more mainstream April (white, redhead, reporter)
From my perspective, however, I really don't feel like I'm trying to make a forced fit or change April to something she's not, as I've always viewed her as bi-racial and that the original cartoon changed her into a white redhead just like they made dramatic changes to the turtles.

Oh, and from MY perspective, the JEDI are bad.

So... how bout we all shut up and leave the white people white, the black people black, asian people asian and so forth? If race isn't important to certain characters how bout we do something shocking and leave them the same race as conceived?

Instead of complaining, focus your energies on making the big comic/series/whatever and not make the main characters white. Or help the bigwigs know you want more multi-racial characters. After all it's the public media and general audience that made Batman so big. If noone watched or read, he'd be a forgotten Adam West fad. Give lots of love to Falcon, Cyborg, Static Shock, Storm, Blue Beetle, etc.

I think what we all can take away from this is that if Casey Jones were to be a black man in the next film, that it wouldn't really matter, as long as the movie stayed true to his character. Sure, it may be a surprise, but it wouldn't not make sense, either. The theory that it would be done to garner more of a black audience is pretty laughable, since there are plenty of black people who are fans of the franchise and really don't give a crap.

To do it just for the sake of making a character black can be categorized as just poor casting and lazy production... which we seemed to have gotten with this movie so it can be even less of a surprise. So, hey, no harm done! :D
